Fourteen and a half months have gone by since it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. There haven’t been many updates since then… which isn’t surprising to fans of the Friday the 13th franchise, because we’ve gotten used to not getting any new content. But Crystal Lake might actually make it into production soon! Fridaythe13thFranchise.com reports that the show was once expected to start filming in March of 2024, but due to the writers and actors strikes that brought most projects...

Stand-up comedian / actor Bill Burr just made his feature directorial debut with the Netflix-released comedy Old Dads (you can read the JoBlo review at This Link), which is cool and all… but here on Arrow in the Head, the horror side of the JoBlo Network, we’re more interested in hearing Burr’s opinions on horror films. That’s why it caught our attention when YouTuber James Whale Bake Sale made a video to go with a clip from Burr’s podcast Monday Morning Podcast in which the comedian discusses the horror classic Friday the 13th – and goes on to explain why he stopped watching horror movies.
The video can be seen at the bottom of this article, and over the course of its five minutes he admits that the final jump scare in Friday the 13th really did scare the hell out of him, says that the franchise...

Last November, it was announced that Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller would be developing a Friday the 13th series called Crystal Lake for A24 and the Peacock streaming service. The lengthy writers strike slowed down the progress of the show – but now that the strike is over, Crystal Lake is probably getting back on track, and since Friday the 13th has come back around on the calendar, we thought this would be a good time for us to share Everything We Know About Crystal Lake!

"Friday the 13th" wasn't originally intended to go on to manifest multiple murderous sequels featuring Jason Voorhees as a machete-wielding madman. The famed hockey mask didn't even make it into the films until "Friday the 13th Part III." No, the initial killing spree at Camp Crystal Lake was carried out by Jason's mother, Mrs. Pamela Voorhees, played by the illustrious Betsy Palmer.
Rather famously, Palmer wasn't exactly thrilled initially to be participating in a fairly low-rent horror film surrounded by young, up-and-coming starlets whose acting experience paled in comparison to her rather impressive filmography dating back to the Golden Age of television during the early '50s. The budget for the first "Friday the 13th" didn't really allow for a big marquee name, and Palmer wasn't even the first choice to play the role. Oscar winners Shelley Winters and Estelle Parsons were approached before Palmer eventually accepted the part after...

The dispute over ownership of the Friday the 13th is one of the most storied in horror movie history. And while things have settled over the last few years, there’s another studio that wants in on the action. Blumhouse — the studio behind the new Halloween trilogy and this month’s The Exorcist sequel Believer — is interested in making Friday the 13th the focus of their next big project.
Speaking with Inverse, Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek said that Friday the 13th is definitely in the studio’s crosshairs (perhaps via a speargun?). “Jason [Blum] and I are definitely in agreement that Friday the 13th is the thing we would love to get our hands on. I really want to go back to the basics. You don’t need too many ingredients for a Friday the 13th film. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Vorhees in a mask.

Three years ago, Paramount Pictures gave the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here) a Blu-ray steelbook release to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary. Now the folks at Fridaythe13thFranchise have caught word that Paramount is set to give the film a 4K steelbook release on October 10th – three days before an actual Friday the 13th rolls around on the calendar. They even got their hands on a picture of the 4K steelbook, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Unfortunately, any progress the show was making has been put on hold during the writers strike – but earlier this year, Fuller assembled a writers room that spent six weeks brainstorming ideas and breaking down the scripts that will make up the first season of the series. Two of the writers in that room were author Tananarive Due, who has written multiple novels over the last thirty years and executive produced Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror, and her husband Steven Barnes, who is also an author and has also contributed scripts to shows like Stargate Sg-1, The Outer Limits, and the ’80s version of The Twilight Zone. The Friday the 13th franchise is finally getting set to return to the screen with “Crystal Lake,” an upcoming prequel television series from A24, Peacock and Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) that’s miraculously able to use any and all existing elements from the franchise.
As we recently learned, original Friday final girl Adrienne King will have a recurring role in the series, and King has shared two updates via social media in recent days.
In one post to Twitter, King shares a behind-the-scenes photo from her first writers meeting, while a post to Instagram suggests that the series is aiming for a 2024 premiere.

Adrienne King played final girl Alice Hardy in the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here), but her character didn’t make it very far into Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch that one Here) before being dispatched with an icepick. As most diehard fans know, the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, an active Boy Scouts camp in Hardwick, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the campgrounds are off limits to the public, meaning you can’t actually visit the filming locations outside of rare special events that the camp offers. And that’s where Crystal Lake Tours comes into play.
For the last few years, Friday the 13th fans have been offered the opportunity to tour the real-life Crystal Lake, and a special event this June will take that experience to the next level.

A new episode of The Manson Brothers Show, which is hosted by the writers/stars of the horror comedy The Manson Brothers Midnight Zombie Massacre – Chris Margetis (Stone Manson) and Mike Carey (Skull Manson) – has just been released, and in this one the boys head out to Camp Crystal Lake for a viewing of the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here)! To find out what they had to say about the rampage Jason Voorhees’ mom went on, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Sean S. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the fresh-faced young people — Jack, Alice, Bill, Marcie, and Ned — pay little heed to the old-timers. Then they find themselves stalked by a brutal killer.

Everyone remembers the sensation of fear coursing through their veins the first time they ever heard the ominous whispering of "Ki ki ki, ma ma ma" in "Friday the 13th." The terrifying slasher from Victor Miller and Sean S. Cunningham spawned a massively popular franchise and inspired countless rip-offs, but few films can hold a candle to the unbridled terror found within the trees and cabins of Camp Crystal Lake. Now, horror maven Bryan Fuller is taking us back to camp with the upcoming A24 prequel series, "Crystal Lake."
The "Friday the 13th" franchise is comprised of 12 films, three seasons of a television series, novels, comic books, video games, and plenty of tie-in merchandise. While prequel stories have been told in the novels and comics, "Crystal Lake" will be the first time we see the story of what came before Jason Voorhees' untimely death during summer camp on screen — fully fleshed out.

Family is everything, for better or worse. The blood of friendship might be thicker than the water of the womb, but for these horror families, blood is the fundamental tie that binds them. Horror has historically reflected the contemporaneous fears of society, with early New French Extremity reflecting extreme violence in an enduringly unstable world, while American horror of the 1950s reflected the United States' insecurity in an ever-changing geopolitical landscape. Family remains as consistent as ever, the principal factor that shapes someone into either the best or worst version of themselves.
Horror families especially prioritize the worst. There might well be an entire horror subgenre of messed up families, the kind that encourages each member's worst impulses. Here, we'll be looking at 12 of the most terrifying horror movie families. These are the gaggles of kin that should reasonably send any audience member running for the hills. After years of speculation, the "Friday the 13th" franchise is finally back on its feet thanks to some surprising names. Peacock has officially greenlit "Crystal Lake," a prequel series based on the franchise to be written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller. While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, this series will mark the first "Friday the 13th" project since the infamous lawsuit between director Sean Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller seemingly settled last year.
In perhaps even more shocking news, the series will be produced by none other than A24. Other producers include the aforementioned Miller, Marc Toberoff, and Rob Barsamian.
"'Friday the 13th' is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series 'Crystal Lake,'" said NBCUniversal streaming chair Susan Rovner in a statement. In his own statement, Fuller...

Bryan Fuller has scored a straight-to-series order from Peacock for a prequel series set in the Friday the 13th universe. It comes from A24.
The move follows a fascinating legal battle between the team behind the original horror film.
Crystal Lake comes from Star Trek: Discovery co-creator Bryan Fuller, who has been developing a Friday the 13th project, originally as a feature film, since 2013. He will serve as writer, showrunner and exec producer.
A24 is the studio, while Victor Miller, who wrote the original screenplay of the 1980 movie, Marc Toberoff, Miller’s copyright attorney, and Rob Barsamian, who produced the original movie, will exec produce.

Sean S. Cunningham's "Friday the 13th" was not a novel undertaking. It was rushed into production to capitalize on the slasher craze kicked off by John Carpenter's "Halloween," and, aside from the highly telegraphed reveal of Betsy Palmer's Pamela Voorhees as the murderer, seemed content to be a shoddily staged, set-'em-up-and-knock-'em-down horror flick stocked with a few decent kills -- none more memorable than the climactic decapitation of Mrs. Voorhees.
By this point in the film, Cunningham had delivered on the meagerest of expectations. Roll credits right there, and your target audience goes home satisfied. But the film's makeup effects maestro, Tom Savini, felt something was missing. He'd recently watched Brian De Palma's "Carrie," and recalled how the final scare, where Sissy Spacek's bloody hand unexpectedly bursts through the charred remnants of her house to grab Amy Irving's wrist, had moviegoers screaming as the lights went up.

With summer (unofficially) over and the Halloween Season now in full swing, these weekly roundups are about to get very packed with fresh new horrors both at home and in theaters!
Eight brand new horror movies are releasing in this first full week of September, and trust me when I say even that makes for a quiet week compared to what’s coming soon.
Here’s all the new horror arriving September 6 – September 11, 2022!
First up, Dread’s Tiny Cinema was just unleashed On Demand yesterday, a horror anthology of multiversal madness that’s also coming to Blu-ray on October 11 of this year.
Sit back, relax, and get uncomfortable…
From the makers of Butt Boy, Tiny Cinema is said to be “a twisted tale of seemingly unconnected strangers whose lives will change in incredible and bizarre ways forever. As reality unravels, each person must battle incredible challenges from a multiverse seeking...

Let’s clear one thing up before we start, The Dead Girl in Apartment 03 is billed as being “From the director of New York Ninja”. But it’s directed not by John Liu who actually shot the footage. Instead, it’s the work of Kurtis Spieler, the man who oversaw the dubbing and assembled Liu’s footage into an actual film. So if you’re watching and expecting that film’s epic lunacy, you may be disappointed.
The film opens in an NYC police station with Christian being interrogated about the events that led to three dead bodies being found in an apartment and the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Laura. He prefaces his story with “Do you believe in ghosts?” as the scene shifts to several hours...

From the beginning, the Friday the 13th franchise delivered memorable Final Girls that outlasted the slaughter and defeated their foe. The first film saw Alice (Adrienne King) end Mrs. Voorhees’ (Betsy Palmer) reign of terror by removing her head. Part 2’s Ginny (Amy Steel) ranks high among the franchise’s favorites for her tough-as-nails perseverance and quick wit. But this […]...

Much like the bad guy in a slasher film, author Grady Hendrix had one book idea that just kept coming back. He wanted to take on the horror movie trope of the final girl — the last character standing at the end of the flick — and bring it into the real world. Seven years later, and The Final Girl Support Group drops on July 13th.

This article contains Fear Street Part Two: 1978 spoilers.
When it comes to horror movies, things are never as easy as they first appear. The key influences of Fear Street Part Two: 1978 could’ve taught its characters this unfortunate truth. The final girl in 1980’s Friday the 13th, Alice (Adrienne King), thought she was home free after she beheaded Mrs. Voorhees (Betsy Palmer); then she got a good look at her beautiful boy Jason in the lake. And Sue Snell (Amy Irving) thought she was honoring the memory of the title character (Sissy Spacek) in Carrie (1976) until she realized she was being haunted from a literal grave.
So too did things go sideways for Deena and Josh (Kiana Madeira and Benjamin Flores Jr.) at the end of Fear Street Part Two. After hearing an adult Ziggy’s painful memories of her time at Camp Nightwing and the slaughter that followed, the...

The premise of Killer Therapy is quite simple… It’s We Need to Talk About Kevin minus the magic. I wrote that line, about 20 minutes into the film, and it is broadly true but, having got an hour in, it seems churlish and unfair. Having seen the film to the conclusion, I can say this is 1 hour and 20 minutes of carefully crafted and developed film. Then 10 minutes of silly, jokeresque stabbing.
It is really disappointing to say that, because right up to the end of the film, this was going to be an extremely positive review.
Our young man Brian is from a wealthy, albeit slightly dysfunctional family. His Mum is close to him,...

Jason Voorhees, the Friday The 13th masked mass murderer who has terrorized horny teenagers at camp sites for generations, has had many faces. This is both a credit to the various makeup artists designing Jason’s gruesome face and the performers wearing those makeups beneath that iconic hockey mask. This Friday the 13th holiday, we rank the latter. The top Jason will be pretty obvious to most Friday fiends… but how does the rest of this list shake out?
We should note that the Friday The 13th franchise also sports three major non-Jason serial killer characters, in the original Friday The 13th, Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning (although Jason does make a tiny cameo in both of these films), and of course Freddy Vs. Jason. These rankings will comprise the actual Jasons only.

Adrienne King is one of the best things about Friday the 13th, with her terror and trauma at being stalked by Jason all too plausible. Her character Alice Hardy even survived the events of the original movie, only to catch an ice pick in the temple courtesy of Jason in Friday the 13th Part 2. But, not content with being in two of the 1980’s most iconic films, she’s now revealed that she also had an uncredited role in Ghostbusters.
In a post on her Facebook page, the actress disclosed the 34-year-old secret, saying the following:

In fact, one could say this is doubly special with it being a real location that’s still standing, as opposed to a backlot.

Crystal Lake Tours' Friday the 13th experiences will fittingly place on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. Since there is limited space, the attendees for the regular tours will be selected via an online lottery system here, while those interested in spending the night can place a bid for a VIP ticket here.
