Jeannie Epper, the peerless, fearless stunt performer who doubled for Lynda Carter on Wonder Woman and swung on a vine across a 350-foot gorge and propelled down an epic mudslide as Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, has died. She was 83.
Epper died Sunday night of natural causes at her home in Simi Valley, her family told The Hollywood Reporter.
Just one member of a dynasty of stunt performers that Steven Spielberg dubbed the “Flying Wallendas of Film” — starting with her father, John Epper, there have been four generations of Eppers in show business since the 1930s — she worked on 150-plus films and TV shows during an astounding 70-year career.

Conrad Palmisano, a veteran Hollywood stuntman, stunt coordinator and director, died on Jan. 10. He was 75.
Palmisano’s stunt credits include over 200 projects across several decades. He worked on a wide range of films from “The Jerk” to “21 Jump Street.” He served as stunt coordinator on “Red Dragon” (2002), “No Strings Attached” (2011), “My Sister’s Keeper,” “Romeo Must Die” (2000), “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993) and “Weekend at Bernie’s” (1989), among many other projects. Some of his television credits include “Jag,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Chaos,” “Bosch” and “NCIS.”
In a 2021 interview with Variety celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Stuntmen’s Association — for which he served as president multiple times — Palmisano reflected on his career alongside colleagues Bob Herron, Alex Daniels and Terry Leonard.
He shared of his on set experiences, “We live our lives between two words: ‘action’ and ‘cut.’ When you start, they don’t give you the death-defying stunts. You might get knocked down or a flying stunt,...

Indiana Jones will soon return in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," another globe-trotting entry in the Indy saga that everyone's not really sure about because of a certain Crystal Skull of Akator. Still, franchise star Harrison Ford isn't worried, and has no hard feelings about "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." In fact, he's having a great time of late, forging a new prestige TV career by starring in the Apple TV+ series "Shrinking" alongside Paramount's popular "1923."
Some 40 odd years after Indiana Jones' 1981 debut, 80-year-old Ford can be found weathering blizzards on horseback and spending 10-hour days in the bitter Montana climate for his Paramount show. As Jacob Dutton, the Hollywood vet has shown a startling willingness to take on the physical demands of playing a rancher spending his twilight years protecting his family. But then, he's always preferred to perform as much of the on-screen action as he can.

The first phase of the awards season will be fully underway starting in the Big Apple. Beginning with the Gotham Awards where “Everything Everywhere All at Once” triumphed, the New York Film Critics Circle will be the first major group of film journalists to reveal its winners on Friday, Dec. 2.
Members of NYFCC will be voting without seeing James Cameron’s sci-fi spectacle “Avatar: The Way of Water” and Marc Forster’s Tom Hanks-starrer “A Man Called Otto.” The first screening for Kasi Lemmons’ Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” with Naomi Ackie took place on Wednesday evening, but it’s unclear how many of the members, if any, attended. Reactions to the film are also under embargo for several weeks.

Richard Fleischer's peplum film "Red Sonja" was released in the United States on July 3, 1985, making it the very first feature film to be based on a Marvel Comics character. And while some scholars in the field of Depression-era pulp magazines might point out that Red Sonja actually finds her origins in Robert E. Howard's 1934 Magic Carpet Magazine short story "Shadow of the Vulture" (wherein she was called Red Sonya of Rogatino), it's clear that Fleischer's film was more directly based on Marvel's repurposed version of the character from 1973.
If one needs further evidence of the "Red Sonja" movie's Marvel credentials, one can point to the presence of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film, as a very Conan-the-Barbarian-like character named Kalidor. While this doesn't technically link "Red Sonja" to the 1982 film version of "Conan the Barbarian," it's close enough to be considered at least a spinoff. After all,...

Exclusive: Deadline has an exclusive track from Disasterpeace’s score for the anticipated stop-motion comedy Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, which is set for digital release via Lakeshore Records tomorrow, as A24 releases the pic in North America. (A vinyl edition of the soundtrack is also forthcoming.)
The film centers on Marcel (Jenny Slate), an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) and their pet lint, Alan. It’s based on Dean Fleischer-Camp and Slate’s viral stop-motion shorts of the same name, which have garnered more than 50 million YouTube views since their 2010 debut, also spurring the creation of two New York Times bestselling children’s books.
With his vivid yet measured score for the Marcel film, Disasterpeace looked to reflect the distinctively matter-of-fact yet wholly endearing qualities of the character that has gained millions of fans since its introduction. “The...

4K discs are selling like hotcakes so it’s only natural for studios to give Home Theater fanatics the biggest vintage blockbusters. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s hyper-efficient, no-loitering juggernaut is a return to the joys of serial action thrills, one ‘did you see that?’ bravura sequence after another. Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones is pitted against Paul Freeman’s villainous Belloq, and the might of Jehovah combats the Nazis. Accept the proposition that Adolf Hitler was ‘nuts about the occult’ and everything else will make logical sense. The picture hasn’t dated at all — it overflows with Gee-Whiz excitement that makes Marvel exploits play like weak tea.

A24 is most notable for their filmography in the horror genre (i.e. “Midsommar” and “Hereditary”), but their latest feature aims to be more lighthearted than almost anything they’ve set their sights on previously.
On Tuesday, A24 released the first teaser trailer for Dean Fleischer-Camp’s “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” a live-action/animated comedy film from a screenplay by Jenny Slate and Nick Paley, based on a story the three of them created with Elisabeth Holm back in 2010.
Slate reprises her voice role as the titular Marcel, an anthropomorphic shell living with his grandmother Connie. Joining Slate in the cast are Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann, and Isabella Rossellini.
The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 3, 2021. It is produced by Fleischer-Camp, Slate, Terry Leonard, Holm, Andrew Goldman, Caroline Kaplan, and Paul Mezey.

Apocalypse Now in 4K? After The Wild Bunch this is one title likely to get me to invest in a new format. Francis Coppola & John Milius’ Vietnam War epic may not be perfect, but it’s one of the most exciting movie experiences ever and one of the top achievements of the first film school generation of moviemakers. The release is agreeably all-inclusive: the original Road Show cut and the two revised versions are here along with the excellent making-of feature Hearts of Darkness. Re-tooled and polished up for picture and audio, this qualifies as a prime audio show-off disc too.

2021 marks the 60th Anniversary of the Stuntmen’s Association.
Founded in 1961 by Loren Janes, a stunt double for Steve McQueen, and Richard Geary, a double for Robert Vaughn, the idea was to professionalize the world of stunts.
Janes and Geary wanted a space for stunt performers to speak with a single voice and share ideas and concerns. Soon, 50 stuntmen gathered and the Stuntmen’s Association was born.
Bob Herron, one of the charter members with over 342 credits to his name, joined Alex Daniels, president of the Stuntmen’s Association, Terry Leonard and Conrad Palmisano to celebrate 60 years of stunts, reflect on the impact of the association and discuss awards recognition.
Bob, you are a charter member of the Stuntmen’s Association. Take us back to why you started the association?
Bob Herron: I started it because there wasn’t a network for the stuntmen to organize with each other; we were all separate.

Need a laugh? Paul Newman shoots people, hangs others and runs a judiciary speed trap for unwary outlaw vagrants. John Huston’s picture is a slack, passably amusing interpretation of writer John Milius’s career- boosting screenplay. A slow-going exercise in ‘printing the legend, only funnier,’ it’s recommended just to take in Stacy Keach’s memorable albino menace, ‘Bad Bob.’

With Fast and the Furious 8 due out in cinemas this week, it seems only right that we look back at some of the landmark moments in the proud history of ridiculous stunts. The Fast and the Furious movie franchise is one which has firmly embraced the “more is more” approach to set pieces and stunts and while in its infancy it made do with garish cars racing quickly, it now parachutes them out of planes and drives them from building to building.
Since the early days of cinema though, filmmakers have been going to great lengths to make their action sequences really impress:
Safety Last! (1923) – The clock face
In this aptly titled silent comedy, star Harold Lloyd was playing an employee climbing the outside of his work’s building as part of a publicity stunt. How did they make this feat look so realistic with 1920s technology?...

DC Comic’s iconic female superhero Wonder Woman has been generating buzz with the upcoming Gal Gadot-starring film due out next year. Then last week, Greg Rucka, writer of the reborn Wonder Woman comics revealed that the heroine is bisexual. But now, the story of Diana Prince’s creator is getting the spotlight in the upcoming indie drama “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.”
Per Deadline, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired the worldwide rights from Topple Productions and Boxspring Entertainment. Directed and written by Angela Robinson, the film stars Luke Evans as Dr. William Moulton Marston, a Harvard psychologist and inventor who created Wonder Woman in 1941. So much of movie magic these days is green screen and CGI — the work of animators and special effects artists. Given the fakery we’ve come to expect, when a movie comes along that pulls off some spectacular visuals on-set without a lot of post-production tweaking, that kind of movie magic makes us take notice. The latest wowing practical stunt: “Furious 7.” The “Fast and Furious” franchise has always made its mark with impressive action sequences done practically. If the seventh installment was trying to top the previous six in that department, it succeeded. This time featuring Dominic Toretto and his team drive skydiving cars out of a plane. To shoot the critical scene, the “Furious 7” stunt team actually dropped real live cars out of an airplane. Aerial cameramen followed the jump, doving with their own parachutes. The cars dropped first from an altitude of 12,000 feet in Colorado mountains,...

Resurrecting the Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp must’ve sounded like one of the all-time Hollywood no-brainers when it was pitched to Disney in 2011. After all, the mysterious masked man used to be the all-American icon with the greatest chase-music (“The William Tell Overture”), the greatest sidekick (Tonto), and the greatest catchphrase (“Hi-yo, Silver, away!”). Plus, though Depp is playing a boldly reimagined Tonto opposite Armie Hammer’s Ranger, he was reuniting with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the creative triumvirate that made Disney billions with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. But getting The Lone Ranger into...

The film, produced by David Permut, Rick Rosenthal and Matt Ratner, and it has just wrapped its New York City shoot. Stewart plays a reclusive, eccentric Juilliard dance instructor and former choreographer, who is visited by a Seattle couple, (Gugino and Lillard) under the pretense of interviewing the dancer for her thesis on the New York dance movement in the 1960s. However, as the couple’s true intentions are revealed, he finds himself unable to dance around the impact of decisions he made long ago. Belber wrote and directed the 2008 Jennifer Aniston-starrer Management and his other plays turned into films include the Richard Linklater-directed Tape and HBO’s The Laramie Project. Chicago – “Act of Valor” is a woeful miscalculation on every conceivable level. To call it a movie would be inaccurate. You know those slickly photographed, stupendously smug army recruitment videos that often appear in pre-show movie theater ads? Imagine one of those videos stretched to two hours and passed off as entertainment. It’s like a Michael Bay knockoff without the aliens.
After co-directing 2007’s documentary short, “Navy Swcc,” Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh were asked by the Navy to make a movie about the SEALs. Through their research, McCoy and Waugh decided that the only way to make an accurate film would be to cast real-life Navy SEALs who can shoot real guns and perform real stunts. Yet for all the “reality” on display, McCoy and Waugh have no idea how to make their film feel the least bit authentic.

One of the most disappointing box office turnouts of the summer has arrived on Blu-ray and DVD. Despite a solid ensemble cast, intense action sequences and cool visual effects Cowobys & Aliens failed to find it’s footing. Hopefully home audiences will enjoy the disc versions more and help increase the overall box office take.
Cowboys & Aliens would be better, if it had focused more heavily on the western elements in my opinion. I love sci-fi, but the science fiction elements seemed to miss the mark. I found myself just thinking of the aliens as more of group of outlaws than the aliens that they were. The best part of the story is the relationship shown between Harrison Ford’s character and his son played by Paul Dano. I especially loved how Adam Beach’s character seems acts like more of a son in the movie. This dyanmic and relationship is...

Forgive our tardiness but our stagecoach was delayed a day by a washed out road and the 1G wi-fi at the nearest saloon was spotty at best. Hence, it’s taken us a bit longer than expected to reach the best Western (Ok, bad joke). Anyway, here are the full details.
According to Universal, the Blu-ray combo pack release will include and extended edition of the John Favreau-directed sci-fi western while the DVD will have the theatrical version. As far as we can tell, the extended edition includes roughly 17 minutes of extra footage but we’ve no idea what that shows. As for Bonus Features, here’s the list:

Cowboys & Aliens will be arriving on home video on December 6, 2011. Universal Home Entertainment will be releasing the movie as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack which will include a variety of bonus features as well as a digital copy of the movie.
Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man and Iron Man 2) and starring Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace), Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Olivia Wilde (Tron Legacy), the movie grossed only $100 million dollars at the box office this past summer -- even with producing power like Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer behind it.
Set in 1873 on the western frontier, Craig plays gunslinger Jake Lonergan who awakens with no memory of his past and a strange metal bracelet attached to his wrist. In the small town of Absolution, Lonergan encounters Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (Ford) and discovers that the two have a bitter past history.

Hollywood stuntmen don’t get a lot of respect these days. Most of their work is now done by nerdy guys drinking Mountain Dew in front of a computer screen at f/x houses. But there was a time when daredevils routinely put their lives on the line just so we might feel a few goosebumps. Legends like Yakima Canutt, Dar Robinson, and Terry Leonard. But before any of those guys fell from a 4o-story building or lit themselves on fire, there was one man who pushed the envelope on risking his neck on celluloid: silent-movie star Buster Keaton.
