“Parks and Recreation” debuted April 9, 2009, just three months after Barack Obama’s inauguration. A perfect alignment, one might think, considering how much the NBC sitcom embodied the 44’s “Yes we can” spirit. However, the tone of its much-neglected, much-derided first season was more akin to the Bush era: cynical, polarizing, and slightly clueless.
Subsequently, its opening six episodes have largely been consigned to history: the general advice to newcomers is skip them entirely and start with the sunnier second season. But while the show undoubtedly benefited from its course correction, its initial glimpse into the fictional Pawnee’s madcap P&r department isn’t the disaster often purported.
Much of the criticism inevitably focused on its similarities to “The Office.” The show was conceived as a spin-off from the corporate satire after all, and shares a creator (Greg Daniels), cast member (Rashida Jones), and mockumentary format. Its premiere was even...

Beau should not sleep. Earlier in the day, when he tried to leave his apartment to see his mother, Beau left his door open with the keys still in the lock. When he returned to the door after turning back to retrieve a forgotten item, his keys were gone.
Worse, when Beau asks a man in the hallway about the missing keys, the passerby shouts, “You’re fucked, pal!”
Yes, the above scene does occur in Beau is Afraid, last year’s weirdo epic starring Joaquin Phoenix as the titular disturbed man. But before he made Beau is Afraid as his third feature film, director Ari Aster introduced Billy Mayo as the fearful lead of his short movie, “Beau.”
Although Beau is Afraid benefits from a much larger budget and A-list stars, including Patti LuPone as Beau’s famous mother and Parker Posey as his childhood love, and although it...

Hope Runs High has acquired U.S. rights to Augusto Sandino’s sophomore feature “A Vanishing Fog,” which won the SXSW Zeiss cinematography prize. The film is slated for an early 2024 opening in U.S. theaters. It’s the first feature to be shot in Colombia’s Sumapaz Páramo, the largest ecosystem of its kind in the world.
“In the middle of the staggering and endangered Sumapaz Paramo ecosystem; F, a solitary explorer, strives to protect the mystical and fragile land he inhabits, while caring for his ailing father,” the synopsis reads.
“Augusto Sandino’s incredible blend of playful surrealism and the overwhelming individuality of the environment in which the film is set has stayed with me since my first viewing. I believe his ability to balance visual scale, cinematic playfulness, and true heart make him an artist we should be engaging with frequently,” said Hope Runs High curator Taylor Purdee.

Even though the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes impacted TV and film productions, Hallmark anticipated the labor dispute by getting a head start on production in Canada. “Christmas is a year-round business at Hallmark, so we were able to mitigate early in the year understanding that the strikes were unfortunately imminent,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, was recently quoted as saying. “We’re grateful to meet all our goals for a full, all-new holiday slate and to bring our viewers the content they love most to celebrate the season.”

When Mouse Rat sang "Maybe someday we'll saddle up again," this must have been what they meant: famed "Parks and Recreation" mini horse Li'l Sebastian was spotted on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA picket line yesterday, despite having canonically passed away back in 2011. The sweet horsie's return came in the middle of a near-total cast reunion for the beloved NBC sitcom, and was captured for posterity on Jean-Ralphio actor Ben Schwartz's Instagram.
"Lil Sebastian made a rare public appearance to support the #sagaftrastrike #wgastrike alongside some people who understand how amazing he is," Schwartz wrote, sharing photos of a mini horse wearing with a pretty blond mane wearing a purple "#7 Lil Sebastian" jersey.

As part of the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP, cast members from Parks and Recreation reunited on the picket line outside the Amazon Studios offices in Culver City, California, on Friday. Representing the 2010s-era NBC workplace sitcom at the protest were series regulars Aubrey Plaza(April Ludgate), Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt), Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson), Retta (Donna Meagle), Jim O’Heir (Jerry Gergich). Plaza and Retta both carried picket signs referencing Parks and Rec storylines. Plaza’s read, “Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP,” a nod to April’s frenemy on the show, played by Rashida Jones. This article contains spoilers for Better Call Saul season 6 episode 10.
One of the most helpful traits that Better Call Saul shares with its title character is an attention to detail.
When trying to capture the attention and trust of someone – whether that be an audience member watching an AMC show or a Cinnabon-loving mall security guard – it helps to meet them on their level. You’ve got to talk about what they want to talk about. And you have to be knowledgable when doing so. You need to pay attention to detail. In Better Call Saul season 6 episode 10 “Nippy” both the artist formerly known as Saul Goodman (now Gene Takovic) and the show pay the requisite attention to detail to pull off a scheme and in the process reveal something major about the show’s timeline.
As we’ve established previously, much of the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul timelines are satisfyingly clear.

When Better Call Saul’s final season kicked off in April, fans were immediately taken by surprise when the season six premiere did not start with the life and times of Cinnabon manager Gene Takovic. Prior to season six, every season of Saul began with Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman living on the lam as Gene in Omaha, Nebraska, but courtesy of writer Alison Tatlock and director Michelle MacLaren’s episode “Nippy,” viewers have now experienced their first full episode in the post-Breaking Bad timeline. Monday night’s black-and-white episode also confirmed the fact that Gene’s adventures have been taking place roughly five weeks after Walter White (Bryan Cranston) massacred the last of his enemies in Breaking Bad’s series finale.

Where can Better Call Saul go after last week’s game-changing episode? Back to black-and-white Omaha, apparently.
Monday’s episode was all about Gene Takovic, finally giving us an update on Saul’s post-Breaking Bad identity. Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 10
Are people capable of change? Are we damned to repeat the same patterns? Are our behaviors hardwired? Can nurture overcome nature? These are the big questions that art, that television series like Better Call Saul, attempt to wrap their arms around. Human nature and the questions about why people do the things they do is a recurring thematic thread for both Better Call Saul and its parent show. It becomes a chief talking point when discussing the storyline of Gene Takavic, Jimmy McGill’s post-Breaking Bad alter ego living in Omaha, Nebraska as the manager of a Cinnabon.
After blowing up his life as Saul Goodman and getting precariously close to cartel business, Gene cannot help the pull he feels toward his former life. Even though he could be discovered at any moment, whisked off to jail or worse,...

If a crisis erupts on board a commercial aircraft, you want to know the flight attendants are prepared to handle any desperate situation. Chris, Wes, and Clear, the cabin crew in the comedic short Cock N’ Bull 3, are not those guys. They’re more likely to be the cause of an emergency than the ones resolving it.
Wes (Danny Rhodes) provides a running stream of non-faa approved commentary over the Pa system. Chris (Nathan Adloff) locks eyes with an older man within minutes of takeoff. Later, he tumbles out of the forward lavatory with his shirt off, apparently having just joined the Mile High Club with his gentleman friend. Clear (Pete Zias) declares, “I wanna get fucked in there!”

Well, this would certainly be a different kind of twist to see in the next season of The Mandalorian, even if Jim O’Heir was little more than a guest star for a single episode. Since season one it’s been evident that fans are going to be able to see one guest star after another, and many of them have been recurring characters in the show. Aziz Ansari played Tom Haverford, the swag-obsessed office administrator of the Pawnee Parks Department, in the hit mockumentary sitcom Parks and Recreation. Adam Scott joined the second season of Parks and Recreation as the mild-mannered, calzone-obsessed state auditor Ben Wyatt. The show was on air for seven seasons, and while the mockumentary didn’t quite reach the popularity of its unofficial predecessor, The Office, it still holds a special place in the hearts of sitcom lovers everywhere. Often dubbed as the unofficial heir of The Office, Parks and Recreation was never able to match the same level of success, but as far as viewership and fan obsession goes, Parks and Recreation is definitely at the top. A bloodied man makes his way down a Los Angeles street while a police helicopter flies overhead looking for him. This is Travis (Dade Elza; You Can’t Have It) he’s armed, dangerous and heading towards Melrose Avenue. Which is where he ducks into the first open building he finds, the art gallery at 86 Melrose Avenue and takes everyone hostage. And then the flashbacks begin.
We get a quick scene of the gallery’s two very obviously gay owners bickering over the company’s finances. Then we go to Travis’ house where his wife Madeline is having dinner with an old friend, Dallas (Jake Red; Devil’s Junction: Handy Dandy’s Revenge). An argument between the two men turns deadly and Travis goes on the run.

"We need to find something that real gamers really want to play." Blue Fox Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Hero Mode, the feature directorial debut of producer / filmmaker A.J. Tesler. With his family’s indie video game business on the brink of bankruptcy, a teenage coding genius has just 30 days to create the world’s greatest video game. "No pressure." They're playing this as a family comedy for all ages, and it definitely looks like it's made to make everyone laugh. Hero Mode stars Chris Carpenter as Troy, Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin plus Indiana Massara as Paige, along with Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kimia Behpoornia, Phillip Solomon, Monte Markham, Creed Bratton, Jim O'Heir, Erik Griffin, Bobby Lee, and Al Madrigal. This is extremely cheesy and especially obvious in its video game designer humor. But there is still some kind of strange charm to it that might make it worth watching.

Rashida Jones has more than a few strings to her bow. Between roles in a slew of cult TV hits like The Office, Parks and Recreation and Angie Tribeca, writing skills that span everything from poignant indie film Celeste & Jesse Forever to Toy Story 4 and Black Mirror, her Grammy-winning documentary Quincy, and a singing career to boot, Jones is a true multi-hyphenate. Lately, she’s been back in the comedy series realm as the larger-than-life Joya in Kenya Barris’ show #BlackAF. And now there’s her lead role in Sofia Coppola’s feature On the Rocks. Jones plays Laura, a Manhattan novelist and mother of two, who finds herself second-guessing her husband (Marlon Wayans)’s commitment.
