ABC this Sunday night revived Supermarket Sweep, hosted by SNL vet Leslie Jones. Did the latest version of the popular game show ring your register?
In keeping with at least the most recent versions of the show (I don’t remember that far back, kids), Supermarket Swayyyyyyyp! takes three teams of two contestants, plies them with grocery-themed quizzes/challenges through which they can add seconds to their “clock,” and then sets them loose on a Big Sweep through a supermarket. (Based on the total seconds each team accumulated, their Big Sweep start times are staggered — meaning, among other things, the...

Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Leslie Jones opened up about why she doesn’t miss her time on the show.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the comedian expressed gratitude toward NBC and her fellow cast members, while speaking out on the challenges of the job.
“I don’t miss it at all,” she told Et. “I miss Kenan [Thompson] but I don’t miss [it]. That job was hard, man. That job was like two jobs and very restrictive too. I wasn’t very free there.”
After a breakout performance and five seasons on the show, Jones surprised “SNL” fans when she announced in 2019 that she wouldn’t be returning the next year. The comedian, who joined as a writer before being promoted to a full-time cast member, has since moved on to hosting a revamped version of ABC’s long-running game show, “Supermarket Sweep.”

“If you are a fan of people running around like they’re possessed, you are in the right place!” That’s how Leslie Jones is welcoming viewers to ABC’s revamped edition of Supermarket Sweep, premiering Sunday, Oct. 18 (8/7c).
ABC dropped the first official promo for the hit game show’s highly anticipated return to television on Tuesday, offering shopaholics a glimpse at the insane action, ahem, in store. (And if you think that’s the only grocery pun you’ve got coming your way, just wait until you watch the clip.)

In news we didn't know we desperately needed, Supermarket Sweep has hit Netflix. In early July, the streaming platform announced that it had added a random assortment of episodes from the 1990s and 2000s. "I don't know who needs to hear this but 15 episodes of the iconic Supermarket Sweep are now on Netflix in The Us," Netflix said in a tweet that we did indeed needed to hear.
The iconic show that managed to turn grocery shopping into a competitive sport originally aired on ABC from 1965 to 1967 before being revived by Lifetime in the 1990s, and then Pax TV - now Ion Television - in the early 2000s. For those who've yet to bear witness to the great televised game show, Supermarket Sweep basically has contestants frantically zooming through supermarket aisles in search of various, very specific items, and the fashion is often incredible.

Michael Briskett (Steven Hubbell) awakens in a dark room with plastic sheets covered in blood hung behind him. It’s imagery you’ve seen countless times in horror films—butcher accoutrement readied for torture porn carnage. But writer/director Ryan Nelson (alongside Beth Levy Nelson as co-writer) is only giving us a tease of what’s to come before rewinding two days to show the unfortunate circumstances that led poor Michael to an unknown basement decorated for Christmas. First we have to meet his douchebag boss Andy Robillard (Cole Gleason) as he assigns an impossible task during the holiday season. Then it’s the office’s latest hire Cindy (Casey O’Keefe), too perky and idealistic for the soul-crushing grind cubicle life provides. The former risks ruining Michael’s yuletide buzz, the latter saving it.
Mercy Christmas initially appears as though it will be full of saccharine hokum with nice...

Visiting your better half's family during the holidays for the first time can be stressful in itself, but it becomes a literal fight for survival for poor Michael when he discovers that he's on the menu for Christmas dinner in the new holiday horror film Mercy Christmas. Directed by Ryan Nelson, Mercy Christmas will be opening this year's Shriekfest film festival in Los Angeles, and we've been provided with an exclusive poster to share with Daily Dead readers.
Check out the exclusive poster below, which reveals a gory gift under the tree (maybe skip unwrapping that one, kids), and we also have a look at a teaser video for the film as well.
Mercy Christmas will screen as the opening film for Shriekfest on Friday, October 6th, and you can keep an eye out for the film's VOD release beginning November 28th from Gravitas.

If only you had known then what you know now, your Supermarket Sweep sweatshirt wouldn't be drenched in rancid ham water. Speaking of meat liquids, Great Big Story got some juicy behind-the-scenes tidbits from host David Ruprecht, including his ingenious strategy for winning: Fill your cart with small, expensive beauty products, not dozens of apparently fermented hams and turkeys. Time to go back and watch Supermarket Sweep again, this time knowing the entire studio must have smelled like three-month-old wieners.

"Supermarket Sweep" is one of the most memorable game shows of the '90s. Who doesn't want to race through the aisles of Whole Foods and shove bricks of cheese into their cart? But in a new featurette starring host (and "Three's Company" alum) David Ruprecht, we learn a secret that could've helped a lot of contestants: Avoid those hams and stick to hair products for maximum cart efficiency. How disappointing is it that the meats and cheeses were fake? Wouldn't you love to come home from a game show with five country hams, five uncooked geese, and five hunks of beef? I guess $5,000 isn't bad either. ...

Big bucks, expensive vowels, and a million cackling Whammies.
The Daytime Emmys are this Sunday, and for the first time ever, there’s a gay nominee for Best Game Show Host — the marvelous and frightfully funny Billy Eichner. Wahoo! To celebrate, let’s rank the 25 best game shows of all time. Get out your purse and prepare to buy some vowels, gents.
25. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?: Sorry Double Dare, but Carmen Sandiego is the greatest kids’ game ever. It made geography cool while highlighting the glamorous felonies of a femme fatale. I wish more TV shows concluded with the entire cast yelling in unison, “Do it, Rockapella!”
24. Let’s Make a Deal: Carol Merrill and Monty Hall could woo you into anything. Though if you’re already wearing a chicken outfit, you probably don’t need much coercing.
23. Sale of the Century: Jim Perry...

It’s taken me a few days to recover for me to even begin telling this story. So give me a moment to pause, dab my cheeks with my new turquoise leopard print scarf, adjust my 4-sizes too small mini skirt over my laby parts (#intentionaltypo), take some deep breaths… and most importantly… remember…. (I’m on a boat with Bill Paxton as we speak.) For weeks, I had been hearing a lot of hype surrounding the Versace for H&M line set to hit stores in late November. As someone who doesn’t “buy” into the “hype” (a lie), I didn’t get too worked up over it. After all, even though I’ll gladly go to the outlets at midnight on Black Friday to get Glamour Shots taken, I’m not the type of person to camp out overnight for a pair of pants, especially pants that resemble a Timothy Leary fever dream.
