Exploitation cinema doesn’t have a particularly good name, and in a way I think that’s how I, and other fans, like it. As with all genres, there’s a lot of crap to sift through, but every now and then you’ll find a dirty, battered, unpolished and (if you’re lucky) uncut diamond of a movie. Thriller: A Cruel Picture is unapologetic and unflinching in its status as an exploitation movie. It’s a film that befits its name, and it’s been restored to all its scuzzy glory in this definitive, extras packed, 4K and Blu Ray release from Vinegar Syndrome.

Siblings Dolly (Dana Day) and Ted (James Fitzgibbons) – as well as Ted’s new girlfriend Sarah (Claudia Peyton) – are visiting their mother Cathy (Helen Benton) and her man’s man of a boyfriend Gary (Terry Brown) at their house in the scenic forests of Wisconsin. What should be a jolly and festive gathering starts off rocky with both Cathy and Sarah sharing bad vibes with one another and I’m not just talking about that usual distrust of in-laws! Shaky starts aside – it’s business as usual as the gang partake in the normal family bonding rituals such as hunting a single Bambi together when uncle Peter (Peter Spelson) pays a visit. Thankfully, Bambi lives to fight another day when the screamish...

Set against the foreboding backdrop of Ireland's fog-soaked, rolling moors, Darkness On the Edge of Town blends classic western tropes with the bleak moodiness of noirish murder mysteries. So much of the story is told in the shadows and darkness, which seems to be a reflection of Cleo's perception; all the while, Ryan playfully utilizes cinematic reference points -- such as a couple of allusions to Bo Arne Vibenius' Thriller: A Cruel Picture-- to fully flesh out his vision.

Rarely has half a year's wait been so richly rewarded. Early in August 2009 Jack Stevenson had promised a review copy of his forthcoming book "Scandinavian Blue," to be published by McFarland & Company, and dealing with a highly Ferronian subject: "The Erotic Cinema of Sweden and Denmark in the 1960s and 1970s." Still, I had nearly forgotten about it, when it finally arrived this March: But whatever the reasons for the delay, I'm sure they were good. Because as it turns out, Stevenson's book is not just an exhaustive and long-overdue study of a chapter in film history that by now mostly lives as a cliché of semi-trashy sixties liberation memorabilia, but doubles as one of the most timely political essays around.
Which is not to say it doesn't deliver as a connoisseur's chronicle of erotic esoterica, delving deeply into the more demented side of sexually charged filmmaking. Entire chapters are...

Filmmakers always talk about how awkward it is filming sex scenes. Well guess what? Sometimes it's Equally as awkward watching them! When they're done well, they can be hot, but when placed in the wrong hands, a sex scene can be the worst viewing experience ever. I submit to you that the following 10 films contain some of the most gag inducing sex scenes ever caught on film (excluding pornography of course). Many of the films on this list are included for different reasons; some are brutal, some are awkward, and some are just plain gross. Get ready to have your mind And your genitals blown! These are my picks for the 10 most gag inducing sex scenes. (Caution: Some of the following images may be considered Nsfw.) 10. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) [1] I’ll admit it, this might be a bit of a stretch. However, I'm sure that any fan...
