“Pet Sematary director Mary Lambert is attached to helm an adaptation of Mira Grant’s mermaid thriller “Rolling in the Deep” for Branded Pictures Entertainment, Variety has learned exclusively.
Sean Hood, whose credits include Conan the Barbarian and Halloween: Resurrection, will adapt the novel, published in 2015. The story revolves around an idealistic young filmmaker who sets out to the Mariana Trench with a small crew to film a faux documentary about mermaids. But the hoax soon turns real as sailors begin to disappear and the filmmaker realizes that they are under siege by actual mermaids. A fight to survive at any cost ensues.
“‘Rolling in the Deep’ is a film led by complicated badass female characters,” Lambert said. “I’ve been waiting to make a film like this my entire career. Our mermaids are not cliché sugary cartoon princesses; they will take you down if you stand in their way.

One of the things that I loved about the 80s was all of the cheesy films that were set around extreme sports like Skateboarding, BMX bikes, and surfing. Well, Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk is getting into the movie business and is set to executive produce a skateboarding comedy called Back to the Grind. He will also serve as a script and technical advisor on the film.
Back to the Grind tells the story of five middle-aged men who reunite the skate team from their youth to save their beloved park from being taken over by a team of obnoxious young skaters. Although they had settled into their adult lives, the five men eagerly embrace the chance to relive their glory days.
I'm in! As someone who grew up in the Skateboarding and surfing culture, this is a film that seems like it could be a lot of fun! It's definitely...

Countless movies over the years have used Mary Shelley's iconic novel Frankenstein as inspiration, and countless more are no doubt headed our way. But the upcoming Mary Shelley's Monster takes an admirably different direction, telling the tale of the woman behind the story.
Per Deadline, "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner has signed on to portray Mary Shelley in the new take on the life and lore of the authoress, playing opposite Jeremy Irvine's Percy Shelley.
Also on board is Taissa Farmiga (pictured), most known to horror fans for "American Horror Story," who has been cast to play Mary’s stepsister, Claire Clairmont.
Scripted by Deborah Baxtrom, Mary Shelley’s Monster tracks the young writer as she writes her seminal novel and is drawn into a Faustian bargain with her own "monster" of an alter ego, who offers literary fame at a desperate personal cost.

Steve Rash has signed on to direct "Crooked Arrows," an underdog sports comedy set in the world of lacrosse.
Mitchell Peck and Adam Leff, who co-wrote and exec produced "Bio-Dome," are producing with J. Todd Harris ("Bottle Shock"). The trio are fans of the sport and, in the words of Peck, aim to make "the first mainstream lacrosse movie out of Hollywood."
They are finalizing financing and sponsorships for a late-summer shoot in the Northeast. They have already lined up endorsements from Major League Lacrosse, the National Lacrosse League, Us Lacrosse and LaxFestUSA. The producers also are talking to sports brands, colleges and prep schools.
The sport's origins date back to northeastern American Indian tribes in the 1100s, and "Arrows" will have a Native American angle, with the story set on an upstate New York reservation.
The film centers on a 30-year-old of mixed blood who must postpone his casino-building...
