Criminal charges against two-time Masters Champion golfer Scottie Scheffler were dropped today, bringing last month’s bizarre incident outside the PGA Championship in Louisville to an end.
“Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler,” Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell said at a court hearing in Louisville today. “Mr. Scheffler’s characterization that this was ‘a big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence.”
Four criminal charges had been brought against Scheffler on May 17 after the golfer was handcuffed and arrested outside the Valhalla Golf Course. Louisville police at the time said Scheffler had assaulted an officer when he attempted to drive around a traffic stop where a fatal car accident had previously occurred.
The arresting officer, Detective Bryan Gillis, was directing traffic around the accident site and said the 27-year-old Scheffler failed to comply with directions and briefly dragged the officer,...

When Eilish took the stage, she burst out laughing from excitement. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” joked the pop star. She admitted that she was “not expecting” to win again, but feels “so incredibly lucky and honored.”
She continued, “I’m grateful for this song and for this movie and the way that it made me feel. And, this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.”

The Oscars may be all about the winners, but for some viewers of the annual awards ceremony, it’s all about the performances. None were so highly anticipated as Ryan Gosling‘s presentation of the Barbie hit “I’m Just Ken,” which he performed alongside fellow nominee Mark Ronson and dozens of others. The ballad which plays in the final half of the blockbuster hit was not the only tune nominated for Best Song as Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell took to the stage earlier in the ceremony to perform “What Was I Made For?” Eilish and O’Connell’s song ultimately was the night’s big winner. The performance started in the audience where Gosling sang directly to costar Margot Robbie who couldn’t hold her laughter back as he serenaded her in a pink suit while donning sunglasses. The films vying for the 2024 Best Sound Oscar are “The Creator,” “Maestro,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” “Oppenheimer,” and “The Zone of Interest.” Our current odds indicate that “Oppenheimer” (31/10) will prevail, followed in order of likelihood by “The Zone of Interest” (37/10), “Maestro” (9/2), “Mission: Impossible” (9/2), and “The Creator” (9/2).
This year’s Best Sound award will be the fourth handed out since the former Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing categories were consolidated ahead of the 93rd Oscars. The 17 craftspeople involved in this race have collectively amassed 70 previous nominations and 16 wins for their audio work, with the largest share of those bids (30%) belonging to Kevin O’Connell (“Oppenheimer”). With an Oscars resume dating back to 1984, he stands as one of this lineup’s nine returning champions, having memorably broken his unprecedented losing streak on his 21st bid for “Hacksaw Ridge” (2017).

Daniil Medvedev 's ongoing clash with the hostile crowds at the US Open has reignited this season after the Russian snapped at spectators at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell are pretty much living proof that siblings can make the best musical collaborators. The brother-sister duo - who don't share last names in the professional world since Eilish uses a stage name - have been making music together for most of their lives, and they're still rocking out together. In addition to being musical collaborators, they've always been incredibly close and frequently share love for one another. On July 31, for example, Eilish wished her brother happy birthday in a sweet Instagram post that reads, "my best friend forever. will never love anyone as much as i love you @finneas happy birthday you are the best thing i have."
The pair have paid tribute to one another many times through the years, and in 2019, while accepting Variety's hitmaker award, Eilish opened up about just how much her brother means to her. "A big thank you to my big brother Finneas.

Endeavor is making another move in the unscripted content space, investing in Velvet Hammer Media, founded by producers Jennifer O’Connell and Rebecca Quinn.
Velvet Hammer launched earlier this year, and has already secured greenlights for shows like The Big Bakeover for The CW and Roku Channel’s Empty Nest Refresh. The company also has projects in development at Netflix and NBCUniversal, among other companies.
Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
Unscripted fare has long been a staple of TV networks and streaming services, but the ongoing writers strike has made the space even more appealing, with production on the programs able to continue even as everything else gets shut down.

Unscripted fare has long been a staple of TV networks and streaming services, but the ongoing writers strike has made the space even more appealing, with production on the programs able to continue even as everything else gets shut down.

Koshy, who starred in YouTube original series Liza on Demand and was the first female transformer in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, will host the series with interior designer Orlando Soria serving as the series’ design expert.
Empty Nest Refresh follows young adults moving out of their parents’ houses, but before they go, to show their love and appreciation, they’re turning their childhood bedrooms into the rooms of their parents’ dreams.

Jack O’Connell first shot to fame after starring in the British teen drama, Skins. He burst onto the small screen as James Cook, a party-loving reprobate with a penchant for violence. While his character was brash and boisterous, O’Connell played him with a nuanced charm that made him a fan favourite on the show. He starred in the hit show for two seasons and reprised the role in 2013 for a special episode focusing entirely on his character. After playing Cook for the final time, O’Connell quickly found himself on a path to superstardom and went on to star alongside...

In a moment where even the biggest players in the world of entertainment are moving to consolidate their streaming properties, it is almost inevitable that the smaller companies would eventually look to do the same. On Wednesday, while speaking at the Gabelli Funds 15th Annual Media and Entertainment Symposium, AMC Networks’ executive vice president and chief financial officer Patrick O’Connell said that his company was looking into the possibility of some sort of “self-bundle” to bring together its myriad streaming services, something that has seemed to make sense for quite a while for the embattled company.

“We think all our brands stand alone, right? They target specific audiences. They’re designed to super-serve those audiences,” O’Connell said, according to The Wrap. “That being said, we think it probably does make sense over time to sort of self-bundle, all call.”

There could be a future in which AMC Networks bundles all of its brands into one streaming service. Executive vice president and chief financial officer Patrick O’Connell talked about the possibility on Wednesday during the Gabelli Funds 15th Annual Media and Entertainment Symposium.
Over the past several months, more and more companies have consolidated their streaming platforms. HBO Max and Discovery+ merged to form Max; Showtime and Paramount+ are combining later this month thanks to Paramount+ with Showtime; and Disney has announced it wants to combine Hulu and Disney+ into a single all-in-one platform. O’Connell noted that this combination strategy doesn’t currently make sense for AMC Networks, but it could in the future.

AMC Networks is scaling back on its programming and marketing spends starting this year, according to executive vice president and chief financial officer Patrick O’Connell. The exec took the stage Wednesday at the Gabelli Funds 15th Annual Media and Entertainment Symposium to address what the financial future of the company entails.
“So I think over the last couple of years — AMC, to a lesser degree, but the industry broadly — overspent on programming, overspent on marketing as well,” O’Connell said.
According to O’Connell, before the Covid-19 pandemic, AMC Network’s cash content spend averaged between $950 million and $1 billion. That increased to “about $1.35 billion” last year.
“We’ve made a commitment to take that back down to pre-pandemic levels. It’ll be closer to $1.1 billion this year, and we’ll likely float down even further closer to the $1 billion dollar range going forward,” O’Connell said. “We think that’s the...

AMC Networks saw its streaming revenue jump 29% year over year to $141 million in the first three months of the year despite slipping subscriber numbers.
The parent of IFC and Sundance TV said it grew streaming subscribers about 22% year over year to 11.5 million from 9.5 million in the first quarter of 2022. While a big jump from last year, that represented a decline from 11.8 million subscribers in the fourth quarter, even amid the premiere of the hit “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches,” which has already been renewed.
“While this represents a slight decline from last quarter, the bigger context is our focus on attracting and retaining higher value subscribers,” CEO Kristin Dolan said on the conference call to discuss the results. She said “Mayfair Witches” was the most-watched season of any show on its services and channels.
AMC Networks reported revenue of $717.4 million for the first quarter of 2023, up less than 1% from $712.2 million in the year-ago first quarter.

Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell were a stylish sister-brother duo at Monday night's Met Gala. The pair arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City dressed to impress with their sleek looks in honor of this year's theme, which pays tribute to late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Eilish, 21, was draped in a sheer, high-neck black dress by Simone Rocha, complete with a corset, while her older brother, 25, wore a long brown leather trench coat with a teal button-up peeking out.
This isn't Eilish and O'Connell's first Met Gala together. The two were each other's red carpet dates last year when Eilish stunned in her pastel Gucci corset dress. The musical sibling duo have also frequented other big events together in the past, including the 2022 Grammy Awards, 2022 Oscars, and Coachella 2022 - all of which they performed at together - as well as the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.

The filming of the new Amy Winehouse biopic is still underway, with filmmakers recreating the late singer’s first date with Blake Fielder-Civil.
The forthcoming film, titled Back to Black, stars Industry actor Marisa Abela as Winehouse and Jack O’Connell as her ex-husband Blake.
The pair originally met in 2005 in a camden pub before marrying in 2007. They famously had a tumultous on off relationship, both struggling with addiction, before Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011.
O’Connell and Abela were spotted filming scenes at London Zoo where the pair had their first date. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson was also seen on set, reported Mail Online.
Earlier this month, Winehouse’s ex-bassist said that Abela’s portrayal of the late singer is “evocative”.
Dale Davis, who was Winehouse’s bass player for eight months before her death, has since remarked how “uncanny” the actor’s performance is.

Brendan Fraser has done some daring things throughout his career. He donned a loin cloth and ran into trees for George of the Jungle. He put in a vulnerable performance under layers of fake flesh for the controversial The Whale. He starred in a movie with Pauly Shore.
But it’s that very affability that made Fraser such a beloved star. Whether running around with Bugs Bunny or listening longingly to legendary director James Whale, Fraser brought an openness that immediately brought the audience over to his side. The empathy he generates has been central to his recent resurgence, as fans across the internet cheered his appearances in the DC series Doom Patrol and the Steven Soderbergh release No Sudden Move. Heck, even those disgusted by the themes and visuals of The Whale still praise Fraser’s performance.
Of course, the Fraser revival is also driven by nostalgia, especially for...

It’s great to see the Brenaissance happen. Oscar nominee Brendan Fraser has been a joy to watch in movies since 1992’s Encino Man. Although the Oscars tend to overlook comedy, Fraser has done strong dramatic work long before The Whale. However, it’s great to see his performance in The Whale recognized.

Six months after HBO Max abandoned its nonfiction efforts in the wake of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the department’s top two executives have set up shop together. Jennifer O’Connell and Rebecca Quinn have launched Velvet Hammer Media (Vhm), a production company specializing in premium original nonfiction content.
O’Connell (former HBO Max EVP of nonfiction and live-action family originals) and Quinn (former HBO Max SVP of nonfiction original programming) will serve as co-CEOs and executive producers at their new outfit — with an eye on creating, producing and distributing formats, special-event programs and documentaries. Operating out of Los Angeles, the two have already hired development and production veteran Nick Alarcon (Lionsgate) as vice president.
“We have spent our entire professional lives in the content business, building and nurturing vital relationships with creatives and executives, and we look forward to furthering those collaborations and friendships through Vhm,” said O’Connell and Quinn in a joint statement.

IndieWire is reporting on one of the many Superman reboots of the late 90s/early 2000s that never saw the light of day. One of those incarnations was a film titled Superman: Flyby, which was written by blockbuster filmmaker J.J. Abrams. Brendan Fraser went up for the titular role as the first Mummy had already hit screens, and though he’s cemented as Rick O’Connell, he now shows his gratitude that he didn’t get cast in a role that was bigger than the actor, like Superman.
In an interview with Howard Stern, Fraser expounds on the situation, “Everyone in town was reading for Superman. Like, again, we’re testing, I think, six or seven guys in 2002, 2003. Paul Walker, I remember Paul Walker was before me. Brendan Fraser says he wouldn’t be opposed to a reboot of The Mummy as he’d be looking forward to the paycheque.
The star recently joked that he had never been “this famous and unsalaried at the same time” after his lauded role in The Whale fired him back into the public conscience.

“Gosh, I don’t know any juicy details about it, but it’s kinda been an open-ended question for some time now,” Fraser told Deadline in an interview published on Thursday (4 January). “I’m not opposed to it. I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job.”

For three days now, America has been addicted to a new TV show playing out before our eyes: The U.S. House of Representatives on C-span.
Kevin McCarthy, either the show’s protagonist or antagonist, depending on who you ask, is trying — and so far failing — to become Speaker of the House. And it’s all happening live, with the non-profit public affairs channel garnering more attention than it has since, well, maybe ever.
“I mean, just any brief scroll of social media shows you thousands of people talking about us that typically, probably, would not be talking about us,” C-span director of editorial operations Ben O’Connell tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t recall the last time I have seen C-Span mentioned on Twitter with this frequency. I’m not sure it’s ever happened before.”
Indeed, C-span has been ubiquitous this week.
