On tap right now is the first teaser for indie maven Mel House's latest terror tale Spavine, which is still hitting the fest circuit and currently causing quite a buzz with distributors. Dig it!
Spavine was written and directed by Tiffany Heath and stars Denton Blane Everett (Psychic Experiment), Tiffany Heath (Mulberry Stains), and Jake Austin. House produces with Heath and Nick W. Nicholson. Phil Nichols/Facades FX handled the special makeup effects, including the mask you see on the poster below.
"With this film the Spavine team set out to strike a balance between classic gore like Texas Chainsaw and Hitchcockian psychological suspense," says Heath. "Spavine has an art-house film look but isn't 'snobby' in that it really cares about the audience and gives them the proper dose of gore, terror, suspense, and overall real life madness. There is nothing supernatural in the movie. Every bit of this...

Word of a new indie project arrived in our inbox this week along with an early look at some FX sculpture work done by Phil Nicholas for the project. Check out the first details on Spavine {Marked by Damage}.
The film is written by Tiffany Heath and will be helmed by up-and-coming horror director Edgar Price. The cast includes Denton Blane Everett (Mulberry Stains, Psychic Experiment), Tiffany Heath (The Truth, Mulberry Stains), and Jake Austin (The Taxi, Mulberry Stains).
Mel House (Psychic Experiment, Imago, Place Holders) is on board as associate producer, and Phil Nichols of Facades FX (Renfield the Undead, Boggy Creek 2010, Psychic Experiment) will be handling the special make-up effects.
Phil told us of the killer, "He wears a leather face type mask made up of the skins of children and horses," which explains a little of what you'll see below.

Gcb star Denton Everett has defended the controversial ABC drama. New York City councilman Peter Vallone recently claimed that the show is offensive to Christians, while sponsor Philadelphia later pulled its advertising. "I grew up in the church in the South, and for me it's dead on," Everett told the Los Angeles Times. "I wish ABC could've kept the full name, Good Christian Bitches. But I'm not here to preach to anybody, for me it's just a job. "I know a lot of wind has been blown about the show, but it's like [series star] Kristin Chenoweth says, sometimes it's okay to laugh with it, not at it." Everett, who plays ranch foreman (more)...

Last night Gcb fans got some clarity on the marriage of Cricket (Miriam Shor) and Blake (Mark Deklin).
[Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead unless you have watched last night's episode of Gcb]
In last week's pilot episode of the new ABC comedy series, Gcb, we saw that one of the husbands on the show, Blake Reilly, played by handsome Mark Deklin, may be married to Cricket Caruth-Reilly (Miriam Shor) but is secretly gay and working overtime (*wink wink*) with his ranch foreman, Booth (Denton Blane Everett). What we didn't find out until last night's episode is that Cricket isn't as much in the dark about her husband's carnal desires as one might assume. In fact, as Deklin told AfterElton.com, the marriage is built on a lot more than just secrets – and it's not the dark, twisted saga our own preconceived notions might lead us to imagine.
During our chat, Deklin shared how he was able to wrap his head around the role of a closeted married man.

You know that you're in trouble when the protagonist of your film must be reminded in the very first scene to remember his medication. (Cue the close-up of prescription bottle changing hands.) If only I had been reminded to take my medication before watching Psychic Experiment, maybe I would have been in the proper state of mind to follow it. Describing the plot of this newest film from Texas indie filmmaker Mel Closet Space House is a bit daunting. There are so many characters and story threads wandering around the wildly ambitious, yet convoluted, screenplay that it would take multiple viewings to sort out all the bizarre goings-on. Even with the meds, my prescription simply isn't strong enough to watch this epic horror/sci/fi mash-up a second time.
This is what I can tell you for certain: Dr.

Exclusive Interview: Writer/Director Mel House Talks Psychic Experiment, Upcoming Projects and More!
On Tuesday, December 6th, Lionsgate is set to release writer/director Mel House's latest genre offering, Psychic Experiment. Featuring an all-star cast including Katie Featherston, Debbie Rochon, Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, Glenn Morshower, Kathy Lamkin and Shannon Lark, the flick is centered around an idyllic, small, self-sufficient community which seems like the perfect neighborhood on the surface.
After all, everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But eventually the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret, and as a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converge on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself.

I’m really sad about the low ratings Lone Star got for its premiere episode, because I loved the pilot and can’t wait to see more of this show. You should all tune in next week on September 27 for the next new episode of this show, because it has great characters and a really intriguing storyline. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you give it a chance. Fox has released promo photos for the September 27 episode, along with a synopsis, which you can view below.
Suspicions Grow On An All-new “Lone Star” On Monday, September 27, On Fox
In order to ease Clint’s suspicions regarding the new windfarm deal, Bob recruits the man who taught him everything about being a con man to help him with the scheme: his father. Meanwhile, Lindsay begins to realize that she may not know Bob as well as she thought,...

Walking Distance premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival last week and now the film is also having a private cast & crew screening in Houston where it was filmed. Walking Distance is a film about ripping the "fabric of reality" and "strange things" in a quiet urban community (Walking). The trailer, found below, shows absolute mayhem and grotesque images as an entire town goes berserk. The Houston showing is a private event that begins May 6th and members of the press are encouraged to seek tickets; more details on the film are found below.
The synopsis for Walking Distance:

To call Mel House's new film Walking Distance a labor of love would be an understatement: initiated more than ten years ago as a script for a zombie flick that evolved into something almost unimaginably more complex, the writer-director has developed its elaborate, intricate, and yes, horror fans, gory concepts into a mashed-up labyrinth of genre storytelling. Redubbed Experimental Activity internationally where it has already secured distribution, the film advances quickly towards the silver screen, bolstered by appearances from horror luminaries like Adrienne King (the original Friday the 13th), Reggie Bannister (Phantasm) and Katie Featherston (Paranormal Activity), while a cast of newcomers including Denton Blane Everett and...

Earlier this week we pointed you in the direction of the Fearsome Fango Film Show Line-Up for the upcoming Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors running April 17-19, 2009. Now that the full event schedule is live, we thought we'd point out a few "choice cuts" (i.e., those panels that we here at Dread Central are either moderating, participating in, or just generally think you shouldn't miss).
Note: All guests/events listed are tentative. More stars are still joining the fun at this late stage, so expect lots of surprises all weekend long. And for the first time ever, there will be a second track of programming that will take place concurrently with the main track on Saturday and Sunday!
