After highlighting the 50 best films you may have missed this year and our overall top 50 films of 2023, today we put our spotlight on those that need a home in the first place: movies we loved on the festival circuit––from Berlinale, Sundance, Cannes, TIFF, NYFF, Rotterdam, and beyond—still seeking U.S. distribution.
We hope that highlighting these titles spurs some distributor interest and a forthcoming release; we’ll be sharing any updates in this regard on Twitter, so make sure to follow us there. As we move into 2024, one can also track our upcoming festival coverage here.

While it’s understandable that many’s most-anticipated films at a festival are also some of the biggest titles of the season––evidenced by the instant sell-outs of the latest from Hayao Miyazaki, Yorgos Lanthimos, Sofia Coppola, Andrew Haigh, Jonathan Glazer, and more at the 61st New York Film Festival––one of the true joys of the experience is seeing work one may never find again. For this year’s edition of Film at Lincoln Center’s annual celebration of world cinema, we’ve gathered eight recommendations that currently don’t have U.S. distribution. While we imagine news will be announced soon for some of these selections, a release might not occur until next year, so be sure to catch them if you can.

Berlin, Aug 27 (Ians) Bayer Leverkusen snatched its second straight win in Germany’s top-flight after easing 3-0 past uninspired Borussia Monchengladbach thanks to the brace from new arrival Victor Boniface.
The “Werkself” took the reins from the starting whistle and didn’t need long to create the first clear-cut opportunity as Boniface’s shot from a promising position got blocked in the ninth minute, reports Xinhua.
Boniface posed a lot of threat and broke the deadlock in the 18th minute after nodding home Alejandro Grimaldo’s lay-up from very close range.
The hosts couldn’t keep Leverkusen at bay as Xabi Alonso’s men doubled their advantage before halftime through Jonathan Tah, who volleyed home following Jonas Hofmann’s good build-up work.
The “Foals” came out with their guns blazing after the restart but neither Marvin Friedrich nor Tomas Cvancara reduced the arrears.

Monaco, May 29 (Ians) Dutch driver Max Verstappen kept Red Bull’s 2023 winning record intact by finishing ahead of Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and Esteban Ocon of Alpine in a chaotic finish caused by rain shower in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.
Defending Drivers’ champion Verstappen made a clean getaway when the race began to maintain his pole position advantage over Alonso into the first corner on the street circuit.
But as the race developed and the planned one-and-only stops approached, a rain shower hit the track to turn the encounter on its head, causing a flurry of off-track excursions, brushes with the barriers and pit lane activity.
Alonso pitted while only a portion of the track was damp and initially took on mediums, but intensifying rainfall meant he was forced back in for intermediates, which the rest of the field clambered for as well.
Verstappen then survived a...
