You know that you're in trouble when the protagonist of your film must be reminded in the very first scene to remember his medication. (Cue the close-up of prescription bottle changing hands.) If only I had been reminded to take my medication before watching Psychic Experiment, maybe I would have been in the proper state of mind to follow it. Describing the plot of this newest film from Texas indie filmmaker Mel Closet Space House is a bit daunting. There are so many characters and story threads wandering around the wildly ambitious, yet convoluted, screenplay that it would take multiple viewings to sort out all the bizarre goings-on. Even with the meds, my prescription simply isn't strong enough to watch this epic horror/sci/fi mash-up a second time.
This is what I can tell you for certain: Dr.

Exclusive Interview: Actress Adrienne King Talks Psychic Experiment, Her Return to Acting, and More!
Today, December 6th, Lionsgate unleashes writer/director Mel House's Psychic Experiment on DVD shelves everywhere (the film is also currently available on VOD platforms). It features an all-star cast including Katie Featherston, Debbie Rochon, Reggie Bannister, Glenn Morshower, Kathy Lamkin and Shannon Lark as well as the subject of this interview, Friday the 13th's original final girl herself- Adrienne King.
Psychic Experiment is centered around an idyllic, small, self-sufficient community which seems like the perfect neighborhood on the surface. After all, everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But eventually the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret, and as a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converge on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself.

Sweatshop, director Stacy Davidson's ode to old violent school slashers, is finally coming to DVD in an unrated North American edition on September 13th, courtesy Screen Media Films.
Synopsis:
In Sweatshop, Charlie and her friends break into an abandoned warehouse to set up the biggest rave they've ever thrown. Little do they know, an enormous, hulking beast lurks in the shadows - filled with rage and brandishing a pulverizing foundry hammer. It isn't long before the kids are in a fight for their lives against this behemoth and his ghoulish minions, who will stop at nothing to snuff them out, one-by-one.
Packed with the latest industrial music by Android Lust and Lucid Dementia, featuring a sexy cast of up-and-coming talent (including Psychic Experiment's Peyton Wetzel and The Final's Julin), Sweatshop is more than just an homage to the slasher films of the 70s and 80s that inspired it.

Sweatshop
Stars: Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, Brent Himes, Melanie Donihoo | Written by Stacy Davidson, Ted Geoghegan | Directed by Stacy Davidson
Now before I start this review I have to be honest, my review disc of Sweatshop completely stopped working after just under an hour so I have no idea how the film ends and no doubt I’ve missed out on some gory action, but on the plus side, never have I ever been so glad a DVD stopped working!
What I did see was some of the most inept amateur-hour acting I’ve seen in quite some time in a movie that sees a bunch of disposable teens setting up an underground “techno-goth” party in an abandoned warehouse (cliches ahoy!). As the teens attentions drift away from the party-planning they pair off in search of more intimate pursuits (told you it was cliched), but amidst their cries of passion...

Grimmupnorth 2010 is coming to Manchester for a second time this Halloween! Readers may remember last year’s coverage from the first Grimmfest last October ‘09. Well, we’re going back for more this year too. Festival director Simeon Halligan and his crew have spent all year finding some amazing new titles to screen at Manchester’s biggest horror film festival, including Evil: In The Time Of Heroes, which I missed at Eiff so am well up for seeing. There’s also the inventively named Canadian shocker, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Japanese genre mash-up Alien Vs Ninja, Thai thriller Slice, Zombie mock-u-mentary Reel Zombies and a horror doc featuring all kinds of industry insiders, The Splat Pack. There’s also a ton of activities and seminars for festival goers to participate in too. Personally I’m looking forward to the special screening for my favourite Argento film, Deep Red.

Another new red band trailer for the indie slasher Sway just hit MySpace TV along with some info on when and where you can dig on the flick itself.
Josh Vargas' film stars Bill Ross, Bobby Haworth, Melanie Donihoo, and more, with special effects by Kristi Boul and Rancid House Productions. Sway tells the tale of "a pair of backwoods flesh peddlers, three sexually-sadistic serial killing brothers, and a family of religiously fanatical psychopaths who all get more than they bargain for when they all three target a young man suffering from schizophrenia who has more than a few skeletons in his closet."
Look for the movie at both Crypticon Houston as well as a special screening at the Texas Bloodbath Film Festival.

Fango got ahold of the first scene shot from Imago, the independent horror feature currently lensing in Texas for writer/director Christopher Warren and writer/producer Mel House. Check out the pic, which depicts actress Natali Jones getting a bloody hand, below.
Imago, which we last reported on here, also stars A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 and 5’s Lisa Wilcox, Sweatshop’s Danielle Jones, Closet Space’s Melanie Donihoo, The Quick And The Undead’s Parrish Randall and Fangoria Radio’s Debbie Rochon, with FX by Marcus Koch’s Oddtopsy FX. It centers on a young woman who, while investigating her brother’s disappearance, discovers a portal to a parallel dimension within his apartment that leads her life to become a Lovecraftian nightmare. You can find out more at the movie’s MySpace page and Facebook page, the latter of which just posted the first behind-the-scenes shot.

Fango got the scoop from Mel House, the Texas-based director of Closet Space and the upcoming fright feature Walking Distance, that Nightmare On Elm Street sequels star Lisa Wilcox (pictured below) has joined the cast of Imago, the latest from his Upstart Filmworks company. “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a huge fan of the Elm Street series,” House tells us, “so you can imagine how excited I am to have Lisa be a part of our team.”
Wilcox (pictured), who toplined the fourth and fifth Freddy flicks, joins a cast also including Walking Distance castmates Natali Jones, Omar Adam, Sean Brison, Melanie Donihoo, Eryn Brooke and Danielle Jones, plus Parrish Randall from such Lone Star State fear fare as The Quick And The Undead and The Flesh Keeper. “Dream Master and Dream Child are pretty much branded on my psyche,” continues House, who wrote Imago with director Christopher Warren and will produce.

Writer/director Mel (Closet Space) House provided Fango with an exclusive new trailer for his ambitious indie shocker Walking Distance. He also sent along some exclusive new pics from the movie; you can see one below the trailer and the others at the bottom of this page.
The movie takes place in a small community that offers complete self-sufficiency, but has some extremely unpleasant secrets bubbling under its surface. “I’m happy to say that I’m 95 percent done with the initial rough cut,” House tells us. “Once I get that finished, we’ll start getting the plates out to our visual FX guys, so that they can get cracking on that stuff while I start on my second pass.
