“Bohemian Rhapsody” star Lucy Boynton smoulders as 1950s nightclub owner Ruth Ellis in a new image from upcoming ITV drama “A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story.”
Ellis was the last woman to be hanged in Britain in 1955 after she was convicted of shooting dead her lover, racing driver David Blakely.
Boynton is joined by Toby Jones (“Tetris”), Laurie Davidson (“Cats”) and Mark Stanley (“Trigger Point”) in the four-part series, which promises to expose the British obsession with class, sex and death.
“Set in 1955 in the glamorous and intoxicating world of London club-land, Ruth found huge acclaim, aged 28, as the capital’s youngest club manager,” reads the logline. “But her success soon unraveled as she became entwined in an abusive relationship with racing driver David Blakely. On trial for his murder, Ruth was condemned to hang by a system which judged her for far more than her crime.”

A deliciously brutal and demented new series comes to DVD and Blu-ray this week. Though not for those of a nervous disposition, Utopia is a fine example of the twisted things that can be done on British television given sufficient talent and balls.
Graphic novel The Utopia Experiments is an esoteric tale. The picture it paints of a world where manmade diseases deliberately ravage populations is a little too blinkered and bleak for mainstream fanboy taste. The website dedicated to its mythology has a membership comprised of conspiracy theorists, skeptics and trolls. When five of the members agree to meet they expect a weird and wonderful evening. With the exception of shy newcomer Ian, they have all been chatting for some time and Bejan’s offer to share an original manuscript of the fabled sequel proves impossible to refuse.
Feisty Welsh bird Becky has other reasons for attending the meet-up.

First look at 20-year-old newcomer Elliot Knight who takes the title role in Sky1 epic fantasy drama Sinbad which is currently filming in Malta.
Huw Kennair-Jones, Sky’s Drama Commissioning Editor, commented: “As our biggest original drama commission to date Sinbad is a hugely exciting project for Sky1 HD, and the casting of the lead role was always going to be crucial. But from the first moment we saw Elliot we knew that we’d found someone really special who sums up everything that our Sinbad should be – contemporary, spirited, full of life, wit and charm - he’s a truly exciting new talent for the channel."
Elliot (represented by Payne Management) was a drama student at Manchester School of Theatre before landing the role.
He will star alongside Naveen Andrews as bad guy Lord Akbari, with guest star appearances from Sophie Okonedo and Timothy Spall.

Sky 1 HD have commissioned a new fantasy drama series based on the iconic adventurer Sinbad and will broadcast 13 hour-long episodes next year.
Straight out of drama school 20 year old newcomer Elliot Knight has nabbed the title role with recognisable faces cast around him including; Lost’s Naveen Andrews as baddie Lord Akbari, Oscar nominated Hotel Rwanda actress Sophie Okonedo as the love interest, Queen of the Water-Thieves and Timothy Spall as Anicetus, The Old Man of Sea.
I believe the image above of Knight is our first look at him as the fabled sailor who weekly will be fighting monsters, goblins and other devilish creatures and is it just me or does he the eyes of a villain and Naveen Andrews, long-touted as a good potential to play Sinbad in a big-screen movie, would have been a more inspired choice to play the titled hero in a new series?
