Director David Findlay’s ability to create short films and music videos that not only look gorgeous but query the human condition on a deep level is why we can’t get enough of him here at Dn. His latest work, a music video for musician/skateboarder Austyn Gillette, is Leaning into your Palms. This isn’t your typical music video however with Gillette performing his song to camera, instead he and Findlay weave a narrative about two siblings, a brother and a sister, who share a moment of reflection through time. It’s really compelling and through some clever camera tricks Findlay is able to pull off some mesmerising shots. In our interview below Dn chats with Findlay about these shots in addition to his collaborative process with Gillette and the joy of working with Titane’s Agathe Rousselle to create his ruminative music video.

This review contains some minor spoilers.
DC’s Rebirth is proving to be a phenomenal success. Now, one year into the era, the company is preparing a second wave of comics – ranging from the new Justice League of America to Super Sons. Batwoman, too, is one of the second wave – but DC has been building up to this one for quite some time.
Kathy Kane’s Batwoman was originally created back in the 1950s as a love-interest for Batman, largely to deal with allegations that Batman was homosexual. There’s a real irony in the fact that, when the character was reintroduced into mainstream continuity in 2006, DC chose to make the character a lesbian. She’s been one of DC’s flagship lesbian characters for years, albeit with a troubling history – at one point, writers J. H. Williams and W. Haden Blackman quit the book because DC wouldn’t allow...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016
DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl.

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 08-24-2016
Recently I put up an article here on Lrm about getting into Batman for new or casual readers (and to an extent, some of the more regular comic book readers out there). I broke it down to three good jumping on points, of which Tom King’s "Batman: Rebirth #1" was used. Now with some of the "Rebirth" books getting near issue six, I can say almost (Almost, not All!) all of the official "Rebirth" books have been an excellent introduction to the series for new readers. On that front, DC has been hugely successful (and the sales numbers are showing it). While continuity is still a bit funky, and events within titles don’t really seem to match up in a macro sense, each individual series has been a blast to read. While I am still reading Marvel books,...

It doesn't take a chemist to know ... you can't substitute liquid nitrogen for vodka ... so claims a man who says he got a most unwelcome specialty cocktail at the famed Beverly Hilton Hotel. Jeremy Cox claims he was at a fancy shindig in August at the hotel where Whitney Houston died, when the bartender offered him and his wife a "specialty cocktail." He claims the bartender said, "You need to drink them right away." Jeremy says he gulped it down,...

I have to admit when I first read that Dick Grayson was giving up his costumed crime fighting as Nightwing to become a secret agent I was disappointed. The character has quickly become one of my favorites among the reboot of the DC Universe and there’s so much more that I felt could be done with him. Alas, I don’t run the comic book publisher and have no say in the decision. I’m simply along for the ride when it comes to new series Grayson, whether it is an agreeable or inadequate one.
After his secret identity is compromised by the Crime Syndicate of America, Dick Grayson abandons his battle against evil in the city of Gotham. He takes his crusade against crime to an international level by joining an organization known as Spyral. Together with his super-powered partner, he embarks on a rescue mission that could...

All eyes are on the Dark Knight in 2014 with the 75th Anniversary of Batman upon us. One way DC Comics is celebrating the milestone is through the release of Batman - Detective Comics Volume 4: The Wrath. Made up of issues 19 through 24 and Annual 2 of the monthly series, the book keeps the super hero investigating different crimes the way his creator Bob Kane originally envisioned him to.
Batman has his hands full as the super villains of Gotham City continue their reigns of terror. The Caped Crusader crosses paths with the enigmatic 900 and must also foil the devious plans of both Emperor Penguin and a murderous vigilante calling himself The Wrath. While Batman is fighting his archenemies, scientist Kurt Langstrom is battling his own personal demons as it begins to look like his alter ego Man-Bat is committing horrific murders nightly.

Gita Hall May, a popular 1950s and 1960s model, has filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate over the company’s Emmy-winning 1960s drama Mad Men. In the complaint, filed today at the Los Angeles Superior Court, May argues that the series’ opening credits use an image of her without her consent. The image in question had been cropped from an 1950s photograph of May taken by well known photographer Richard Avedon for a Revlon hairspray ad. “The Main Titles were integral to the success of Mad Men,” the complaint says (read it here), claiming that the producers “have generated income in excess of $1 billion through exploitation of the series and its episodes.” The main title for the show is not produced by Mad Men studio Lionsgate but by Imaginary Forces, with Mark Gardner and Steve Fuller credited as directors and Jeremy Cox and Joey Salim as designers. It won the 2008 Emmy...

Arriving in comic book stores next week, The Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1 helps launch a brand new series of short stories that began with the first anthology released last year. As an avid fan of the Rocketeer, the first anthology delivered some of the best storytelling for the character in years and was a surprise hit for most readers overall. With the launch of the second anthology, fans now have higher expectations for the upcoming tales and it looks like Idw will not disappoint with the first lead story arriving courtesy of Sandy Plunkett.
Plunkett is a veteran illustrator who is no stranger to the Rocketeer character, having worked with the late Dave Stevens on illustrating his creation during his final years. His refined yet slightly cartoonish drawing style seems the perfect match for a character such as the Rocketeer and, accompanied with the coloring by Jeremy Cox, The Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1 looks...

A few years ago I headed to Vegas with the express purpose of visiting Steve Wynn's new hotel and casino, The Wynn. I'd read plenty about the classy decor (including surprisingly non-cheesy carpet patterns), but I was most intrigued by its outdoor theater called the Lake of Dreams. Taking our seats at a bar on the shores of a pretty-enough manmade lake, we steeled ourselves for that awful/awesome blend of Vegas "entertainment." But instead of a drag-queen pirate swooping onto the scene, to our pleasant surprise the lake began bubbling to a beat, dancing with choreographed lights like an underwater disco. And then a head--yes, a 25-foot head!--emerged from the water, its "face" a projected, lip-syncing pastiche of stop-motion, claymation, and stunning makeup artistry, singing to the head-bobbing hit by Yello, "Oh Yeah." This blend of film, graphic design, animation and live-action drama reflecting on this lake-theater...
