Keanu Reeves has been at the forefront of some of cinema's most important franchises, including "The Matrix" and "John Wick." Even one of his biggest bombs has, against all odds, also become a franchise. Reeves starred in Universal's tremendously expensive blockbuster "47 Ronin" back in 2013. It was a major flop at the time and actually hurt the actor's career a bit. But nearly a full decade later, everything came full circle, and a sequel to that flop was released. Yes, was! As in, it already came out ... last year.
"Blade of the 47 Ronin" is a sequel to the movie in question, and debuted in 2022. One would be forgiven for not realizing it, as it wasn't quite as big as the original, to put it mildly. Unfortunately, Reeves didn't return for the follow-up, but for those who enjoyed that film, there is a sequel out there you can watch right now.

Shannon Lee, daughter of the legendary actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, recently told The Telegraph that she remains unaware why Quentin Tarantino decided to portray her father as “the a-hole” in his 2019 movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Shannon Lee spoke out against the film’s portrayal of Bruce Lee at the time, which led to a highly-publicized back and forth between her and Tarantino in many interviews.
“It’s interesting. I actually don’t know,” Shannon says now about the reasoning behind Tarantino’s controversial portrayal of Bruce Lee. “I’ve never met [Tarantino]. I don’t know what his issues are with my father. Clearly, he thinks my father is cool, because he has borrowed from him quite a bit. But at the same time, I think he has been told a lot of stories by people who have encountered my father and had a negative reaction.

The movie may be titled “Ghosted,” but audiences aren’t having a hard time finding it. That’s according to an excusive report from Deadline, which cites data from Samba TV that shows “Ghosted” became the most-watched movie premiere in the history of Apple TV+ in the two days following its April 21 release.
7-Day Free Trial $6.99 / month apple.com
Samba’s numbers indicate that “Ghosted” was seen by 328,500 viewers in that time. That beats out every other Apple TV+ movie release, including popular titles like “Finch”, “Spirited”, and “Tetris”. The data was sourced from a group of 3.1 million Samba TV households, who watched “Ghosted” for at least one minute on between April 21 and 23.
The numbers may not seem that impressive when put in that context, but Deadline’s sources are also saying that “Ghosted” has seen a 20% higher completion rate than the average Apple TV+ movie. People aren’t just...

After nearly a decade of seeing Chris Evans as Captain America in the MCU, it might be a bit of an adjustment to see him be the guy who’s the exact opposite of an action hero in “Ghosted.” But, according to the film’s director, Evans was very meticulous about making sure he was underskilled on screen this time.
The film, now streaming on Apple TV+, follows Cole (Evans) as he tries to find love with Sadie (Ana de Armas) after a pretty perfect spontaneous date. When she appears to be ghosting him, he plans a grand romantic gesture — at least…in his eyes — to show up in London, where he’s tracked her down to using his phone..
But, as it turns out, Sadie is a spy, and a very skilled one at that — meaning a lot of people want her dead. Now, she must protect Cole to...

Review: Thanks to the blockbuster films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans has become synonymous with Captain America. Through roles in Knives Out and Defending Jacob, Evans has tried to stretch himself beyond the realm of comic books by selecting projects that are nowhere near comparisons to Steve Rogers. With Ghosted, Evans takes on a role that could not be any less like his iconic superhero role while still allowing him to have fun with stunts, spectacle, and a fair amount of comedy. Ghosting is an Apple TV+ film directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Adrien Brody.
Chris Evans and Ana de Armas trick us with a romantic comedy that ends up becoming an entertaining action movie without much intention of giving us anything original.
It turns out to be entertaining, enjoyable and, above all, reliable for Apple TV+.
Ghosted(2023) About the Movie
Action comedies work, and even more so if they have good-looking leads like Ana de Armas and Chris Evans. It works, but it doesn’t captivate you. A classic movie to have a good time on Friday night and forget about… Friday night itself. It has good and entertaining rocking action scenes, a plot light enough to disconnect and get carried away by the action.
It has one great virtue: it knows how not to take itself seriously for a single moment. It’s...

Hard to believe, but we’ve not taken a trip into “rom-com” land in 2023. Really? Has this staple been dormant for several months, but with those warmer Spring temps, well, where do most hearts venture? Oh, and since we’re getting nearer to Summer this one’s a hybrid as it’s really a “rom-com-spy-thriller”.This isn’t rare as we’ve seen this played out for at least 30 years, going back to Arnold and new Oscar darling Jamie Lee in True Lies (which inspired a recent CBS TV series). And in the last dozen or so years we’ve had the big “spy reveals” in Knight And Day (Tom Cruise) and Killer (Ashton Kutcher), not to mention the double reveal in Mr. And Mrs. Smith (Bradgilina begins). Well, this new one has a bit of a twist in that the undercover agent is a lady. Plus it also takes...

There is a lesson Hollywood can learn from Apple TV+’s action romcom Ghosted: if you want to tell a story about a schlub who falls for a spy, don’t cast Captain America as the ordinary one. It’s just asking too much of your audience. You can’t present us with Chris Evans as a guy named Cole Riggan and then argue he’s the polar opposite to Ana de Armas’ ass-kicking, CIA operative Sadie. When Evans falls, he doesn’t flail his limbs about like us mere mortals. When he has to pose as a legendary agent and break bread with the enemy (Adrien Brody’s Leveque), there’s a smirk on his face that reads as a little too confident, a little too in control. You don’t get the sense this guy even sweats.

Who would have thought we would be seeing a sequel to 47 Ronin among all of the Halloween goodies? But sure enough, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the company’s direct-to-video department, has come up with Blade of the 47 Ronin, a modern-day sequel to the Keanu Reeves samurai epic. And they said there’s no such thing as The Great Pumpkin.
Somewhere in Budapest Yurei kills Arai thought to be the last in the bloodline of those who wielded the Blade of the 47 Ronin. But as he kills him he senses the existence of another heir.
As the other clans argue over what to do about the sword and the prophecy attached to it, Onami one of Lord Shinshiro’s onna-bugeisha reaches out to Reo.

Chris Evans saved the world (and even the universe) multiple times as Captain America. But in his latest Apple TV+ action film “Ghosted,” it’s Ana de Armas who’s doing the rescuing.
“It was great. I mean, we’ve all seen Ana be badass; she was so good in [‘No Time to Die’],” Evans told Variety at the New York premiere of “Ghosted” on Tuesday night. “It was nice to be the damsel in distress. It was nice to need saving — primarily because I didn’t have to sweat during the action sequences.”
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, “Ghosted” follows hopelessly romantic Cole (Evans), who falls head over heels for the enigmatic Sadie (de Armas). When Sadie seemingly ghosts him, Cole follows her to London as a romantic gesture, only to discover that the girl of his dreams is a CIA agent on assignment.

The story of the 47 Ronin is one of the most famous tales of the Samurai era. A story that has been passed down over the years and made into numerous films. It's a classic saga of betrayal, loyalty and sacrifice that makes it perfect for cinematic treatment. The Hollywood version in 2013 proved controversial in it's addition of fantasy elements and the casting of Keanu Reeves in the lead role. In addition to this controversy it was also critically panned. That alone makes the idea of a sequel daunting viewing. Those familiar with the story will also know that it's not exactly one that allows for a follow up. I'm sure the producers will have thought of that and have a completely compelling new narrative for this potential issue…..right??

Donnie Yen has shared his view on Quentin Tarantino’s controversial depiction of Bruce Lee in his latest film.
In Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a fictionalised version of the martial arts star, played by Mike Moh, is shown to be offended when Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Both, mocks him for claiming he could beat Muhammad Ali in a fight.
It’s because of this that, in front of a crowd of people, Lee challenges Cliff to a fight, following which he is humiliated after Cliff beats him by throwing him into a car door.
At the time, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, criticised Tarantino for the “disrespectful” depiction, stating in The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m tired of white men in Hollywood mistaking his confidence, passion, and skill for hubris and therefore finding it necessary to marginalise him and his contributions.”

Donnie Yen believes “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” makes an obvious statement on Bruce Lee.
Yen, who stars in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” addressed the portrayal of fellow martial arts master, late icon Lee, in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning epic film. Dating in 2023 is a minefield of unspoken rules, ambiguous texts, and busy people whose relationship timelines rarely align. Trying to navigate the social politics of dating apps in search of a partner for life (or the night) is a complex puzzle that often feels more like a geopolitical espionage mission than good old fashioned courtship. Unless you’re Chris Evans in “Ghosted,” in which case it actually is a geopolitical espionage mission. The latest blockbuster from Apple TV+ stars Evans as a guy who just wants to get a second date with a girl who ghosted him, only to find out that she had a very good reason for not texting him back. His attempts to track her down result in him being kidnapped and sucked into a dangerous adventure — where the only person who can save him might be the person who couldn’t be bothered to respond to his DMs.

Chris Evans falls in love with Ana de Armas after just one date in the new trailer for the Apple TV+ romantic action-adventure film Ghosted. As a “grand romantic gesture,” he flies out to London to surprise her — only to find out she’s actually a secret agent.

It doesn’t take long before he is captured and finds out she’s actually a member of the CIA named “The Tax Man” on the run from Adrien Brody, who sends “every bounty hunter on the continent” after her. “You got me kidnapped and tortured after one date,” Cole complains, to which Sadie retorts...

A grand romantic gesture turns into a dangerous international adventure for Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the trailer for Ghosted, released Monday.
The stars lead the Apple TV+ film centered on Cole (Evans) who, after having a date with Sadie (de Armas), is left confused when she ghosts him and doesn’t respond to his texts. When Evans’ Cole decides to travel to London to surprise Sadie while she works, he makes a shocking discovery that there’s more to Sadie than he realized: She’s a secret agent. The two are then swept away on an international adventure to save the world.
“You got me kidnapped and tortured, all after one date,” Evans’ Cole tells de Armas’ Sadie as they run away from a car that just exploded.
“You’re the one who flew to London,” she tells him, only for him to reiterate, “It was a romantic gesture!

Apple TV+ pulled the sheet from its new romantic action-comedy “Ghosted” on Monday, starring Chris Evans and Ana De Armas.
Cole (Chris Evans) falls deeply in love with Sadie (Ana de Armas) after a romantic date, but after he tells his family about her, thinking she’s “The One,” and tries to reach out to her again for a second date, she doesn’t respond to his texts.
Set to The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” Cole ventures across the pond to find Sadie and confront her about their relationship. He finds out she’s a secret agent by getting tangled up in one of her missions where mysterious men trap him outside a vault and almost torture him with a wasplike creature.

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

A new study claims to shed light on the death of celebrated film star and martial artist Bruce Lee.
The Enter The Dragon actor died in July 1973 at the age of just 32 after suffering a cerebral oedema (swelling of the brain).
The swelling was thought to be a reaction to the tranquiliser meprobamate, which made up part of a painkiller Lee was given called Equagesic.
However, a team of researchers has now suggested that the oedema was caused by hyponatraemia. “In other words, we propose that the kidney’s inability to excrete excess water killed Bruce Lee,” the scientists wrote in the paper published in the Clinical Kidney Journal.
Several factors suggest that Lee may have been consuming unusually high quantities of liquid at the time due to his diet, which consisted of a lot of juices and protein drinks, and the use of marijuana, which causes increased thirst.

Here’s a sequel I’m willing to bet you forgot was coming, because I certainly did. It was announced over two years ago that Universal Pictures was developing a sequel to 47 Ronin, the 2013 action/fantasy movie that starred Keanu Reeves as a half-Japanese, half-English outcast who joins forces with a group of ronin out to avenge the death of their master. The film was one of the biggest box-office bombs of the year, which made the announcement of a sequel all the more puzzling, but here we are. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have released an extended clip from Blade of the 47 Ronin, which you can check out above.

Brad Pitt’s foray into “gun-fu” action has another legend behind it: Jackie Chan.
Pitt said he channeled Chan when starring in David Leitch’s “Bullet Train,” an adaptation of the Japanese novel “Maria Beetle” by Kōtarō Isaka. Pitt plays an assassin who boards a bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto with the mission to collect a briefcase onboard while fending for his life against other trained killers, portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Bad Bunny, Joey King, and Zazie Beetz.
“We always talk about Jackie Chan, how much we love Jackie Chan,” Pitt told Entertainment Tonight of filming the action-comedy, in theaters August 5. “He’s like our Charlie Chaplin, he’s just so underrated. And it’s so amazing the stuff that he’s pulled off. So to do something in that vein, with the comedy infused into the fights, I’ve never done that before!”

Production wraps this week in Hungary on “Blade of the 47 Ronin,” a sequel to Universal’s 2013 Japanese-themed action classic “47 Ronin.” The new movie represents a substantial revamp that emphasizes Asian fantasy heroes and female characters and addresses some of the cultural criticisms of the previous Keanu Reeves-starring picture.
The action is moved forward by some 300 years to present-day Budapest, which is intended as a metaphor for East-West confluence, and where a meeting of the five Samurai clans is taking place. In addition to the male clan leaders, the meeting is also attended by three Onna Bugeisha (literally ‘Women Warriors’), though their presence is initially resented.
Production was handled by Universal Studios through its 1440 Productions unit for Netflix. The streamer is expected to release it sometime in 2022, though a specific date is still unknown.
The existence of female Samurai who fought alongside their male colleagues in feudal Japan is well documented.

Shannon Lee has published a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter responding to Quentin Tarantino’s latest criticisms of her father, Bruce Lee. In a viral interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience” this week, Tarantino stood by his controversial depiction of the acting icon in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and noted the real Bruce Lee “had no respect for American stuntmen.” Shannon has been an outspoken critic of Tarantino’s depiction of her father since the 2019 release of “Hollywood,” calling it an “irresponsible” stereotype that has created lasting negative views of Bruce.
“Where I am coming from is, I can understand his daughter having a problem with it. It’s her fucking father. I get that,” Tarantino told Joe Rogan this week. “But anybody else, oh suck a dick!”

Since the release of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” director Quentin Tarantino has been outspoken about his depiction of Bruce Lee (portrayed by Mike Moh) as an arrogant figure. The portrayal has received blowback from Lee’s fans and his daughter, Shannon Lee, as being inaccurate.
While promoting the novelization of his 2019 film on the Joe Rogan Podcast, Tarantino said, “I can understand his daughter having a problem with it. It’s her fucking father, alright, I get that. Everybody else: Go suck a dick.”
In the film, there is a fight scene on the set of “The Green Hornet” between Lee and stuntman Cliff Booth, played by Oscar winner Brad Pitt, where the two men spar. Tarantino said the film makes it “obvious that Cliff tricked him” and won the fight, adding that the scene is further explained in his new book.

It’s been almost two years since Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” opened in theaters and ignited a global controversy around his depiction of Bruce Lee. Bruce’s daughter, Shannon Lee, condemned Tarantino for his “irresponsible” portrayal of the martial arts icon and said the film created lasting negative views about her father. The scene, in which actor Mike Moh stars as Bruce Lee, is reportedly the reason China refused to release “Hollywood” in theaters unless it was removed. Tarantino refused. The director also defended his portrayal, saying Lee was “an arrogant guy” in real life.
The Bruce Lee discussion as it relates to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” resurfaced this week during Tarantino’s appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” to promote the just-released “Hollywood” novelization. While the filmmaker can sympathize with Shannon Lee for being upset with the “Hollywood” version of Bruce Lee,...

[Editor’s note: Spoilers follow for the plot of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel.]
One of the biggest mysteries of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is whether Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth murdered his wife, Billie. Rumors about his wife’s mysterious demise swirl around the stuntman, with Mike Moh’s Bruce Lee showing recognition when a crew member says Booth “killed his wife and got away with it.” But it’s only in Tarantino’s “Hollywood” novel, out now, which the director has described as a “complete rethinking of the movie,” that we get a definitive answer about what happened.
Cliff’s culpability for the crime has been hotly debated since the film was released in July 2019. Brad Pitt himself said he knew the definitive answer — that Tarantino had told him — and certainly characters in the world of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” believe Cliff is guilty. Husband...

Though film fans may not acknowledge it, several other entertainment venues have had a tough time getting by in the past year. Just a few miles from the shuttered multiplex there were the empty stadiums and sports arenas. Now many more theatres are starting to open their doors once more (hey Big Apple and Tinsel Town), and the prospect of watching live baseball in a few weeks has many fans ecstatic. But there’s another sport just finishing up, allowing a few fans in, and adding another pandemic phrase for the “new normal”. That would be the basketball “bubble” that’s had a bumpy history. This new release is set in the before days, with a high schooler “baller” dreaming of the “big show”. But his parents are also counting on his “dream”. That and the pressure of representing his unique cultural community weigh heavily on the shoulders of the teen “hoop sensation” nicknamed Boogie.

Even though it’s moving at a slower pace than many would like, the vaccine rollout is starting to gain some traction and in turn, moviegoers are going to start setting foot in theaters — safely of course. That said, the specialty box office space might be hearing some more coin drop into its piggy bank in the forthcoming months. It’s been quite a journey, but we’ll get there slowly yet surely.
Eddie Huang, who is best known for writing the best-selling Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir which was the inspiration for the popular ABC sitcom, makes his feature directorial debut with Boogie which Focus Features releases in theaters today.
The story follows Alfred Chin (Taylor Takahashi) who goes by the name “Boogie”. He is a basketball phenom living in Queens, New York and dreams of one day playing in the NBA. However, his parents have other plans for him.

For subtlety’s sake, it’s better if coming-of-age stories don’t feature subplots in which characters are asked to pen their own autobiographical tales of maturation, and then spend time debating the merits of J.D. Salinger’s “The Catcher in the Rye” as well as their personal similarities to its protagonist, Holden Caulfield. That “Boogie” does this is emblematic of its frequent clunkiness. Nonetheless, Eddie Huang’s directorial debut about a Chinese American basketball player trying to balance athletics, romance and parental expectations — elements that should give it a leg up on the competition when it debuts in theaters on March 5.
In Flushing, Queens, Alfred “Boogie” Chin (Taylor Takahashi) strives to realize his dream of making it to the NBA. To facilitate this goal, Boogie — at the behest of his demanding father (Perry Yung) — transfers to City Prep, where he thinks he’ll have the best shot at beating...

With his best-selling autobiography “Fresh off the Boat,” chef and restaurateur Eddie Huang eloquently explained the othering of Asian Americans. He’s also a hip-hop and basketball fan. His feature directorial debut “Boogie” concerns a talented Tawianese American high school basketball player, the Queens native Alfred “Boogie” Chin (Taylor Takahashi), and his bid to earn a college scholarship. The road, of course, isn’t easy. The family’s bills pile up. His temperamental father (Perry Yung) is now on parole. His mother (Pamelyn Chee), who mercilessly berates her husband, is verbally and physically abusive.
If Huang focused on the trio’s fraught dynamic, this coming-of-age story would elevate to the basket. Huang’s first feature, however, for an aimless, senseless, undramatic sports flick.
Boogie is an incredibly unlikable character. Muscle-bound, swaggering, and a hip-hop baby — he first locks eyes with a headstrong Eleanor (Taylour Paige) — he’s not exactly the...

There are important stories in “Boogie” about young love, about abusive marital and parental relationships, and about navigating Western culture as the child of Asian immigrants, but the film seems determined to be about the rise of a promising high-school basketball player, even though the basketball storyline is the least interesting of the plotlines on display.
Restaurateur and “Fresh Off the Boat” author Eddie Huang makes his feature debut as a writer-director, bringing a great deal of emotional honesty and cultural specificity to the table. But while his approach to the characters and their interactions feel fresh and personal, the entire basketball plot is cobbled together from countless sports-movie clichés.
Japanese-American actor Taylor Takahashi debuts as Alfred, aka Boogie, a high-school senior who carries the hopes and dreams of his Chinese-born parents (played by Pamelyn Chee and Perry Yung) on his shoulders. The film opens with a flashback of his...
