Comic-Con Sundays are typically light on horror, and this year is no exception although once again our favorite panel, "Supernatural", is heading to Hall H. Here are the genre highlights as well as info on the 36th annual Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive.
One thing we can't stress enough is to keep checking the Sdcc website for updates as nothing's set in stone until the event actually starts happening.
10:00-11:00 Emily the Strange— Be a part of the Emily the Strange panel experience, where you have the chance to prove your knowledge of Strange and win prizes, learn what's new in Emily's oddball universe (including a sneak peek at the new Emily and the Strangers comic book series), and Q&A with Emily's creator Rob Reger, artist Buzz Parker, and writer Jessica Gruner. Did we mention you will get some cool stuff just for showing up and being Strange?...

From "Nosferatu" to "Twilight," supernatural movies have never gone out of style. Vampires and their monster homies have enjoyed a constant stream of cinematic exposure since the turn of the last century, but they've never been more pervasive than in the last few years, breaking out of horror confines and sparkling their way into other genres.
We'd be naive to say supernaturals are on their way out — they'll never leave, and we wouldn't want them to. But we'd be blind not to notice the creepy new sheriff in town: Dystopia.
As themes go, it's nothing new ("Children of Men," "Blade Runner"... "Idiocracy") but amidst the insane success of "The Hunger Games," studios are snapping up the rights to similar books the moment they land on shelves — and in a few cases, before that.
So move over, monsters. In honor of "The Hunger Games'" record-breaking opening weekend, we're looking at...

The Brothers Strause (Skyline, AvP: Requiem) are teaming up with Predators producer John Davis to adapt The Uglies, based off of author Scott Westerfeld’s trilogy. Uglies is set in an Orwellian future in which teens undergo surgery on their 16th birthdays to become supermodel “pretty.” It’s centered on Tally Youngblood, an “ugly” teen forced by authorities to forgo her transformation until she infiltrates The Smoke, a community of rebels who choose to retain their appearance and live outside of normal society.
The film is being written by Jacob Forman (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane). No word on a release date or cast.

John Davis and Lola Visual Effects are financing and producing a feature based on "Uglies", Scott Westerfeld's 2005 futuristic novel and the first book in a trilogy reports Variety.
Set in an Orwellian future in which teenagers undergo surgery on their 16th birthdays to become like supermodels, the story follows Tally Youngblood - an "ugly" teen forced by authorities to forgo her transformation until she infiltrates The Smoke, a community of rebels who choose to retain their appearance and live outside of normal society.
Jacob Forman ("All the Boys Love Mandy Lane") will pen the screenplay. Rights to the next two books, "Pretties" and "Specials", have also been bought.

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

Talk about a hot read: Yesterday, Variety reported that Mandalay Pictures had snagged the much-coveted rights to Sophie Jordan’s young adult novel Firelight, a book that has been picking up sizzle ever since its release…on Sept. 7. Yes, as in Sept. 7, 2010, just two weeks ago.
Clearly, Hollywood has its eyes fixed on the young adult world, with every studio clamoring to release the next Twilight. (Or, as we will likely be saying soon, the next Hunger Games.) But while there’s certainly demand for a Firelight film — the book, about two teenage descendants of dragons, has been buzz-y since...

Young adult fiction is loaded with great authors who exploit amazing scifi concepts to express the ever important teenage targeted theme of "be yourself." Scott Westerfeld and Rodrigo Corral's spectacular Uglies trilogy may come immediately to mind, but there are many others out there. The recently released Zombie Blondes, with it's Mean Girls meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers storyline, feels primed to become another classic; but is its title appropriate? In a recent interview with Scifi, author Brian James discusses the fact that his blonde zombies are very different from the zombies we all know and love, explaining that "These aren't the roving, rotten-flesh kind that only exist in the movies. These zombies are beautiful [and] popular... They use blood from the living to maintain their own appearance of being among the living." You know, I don't mind mixin' up the zombie mythology here and there but, uh, that's called a Vampire dude.
