Berlin-based sales agency Picture Tree Intl. has acquired the supernatural crime thriller “The Osha Rule,” and will start seeking distribution partner at the Cannes Film Market. The film will start principal photography in August 2024.
“The Osha Rule” blends crime with supernatural horror and revolves around a young Latino gang member forced into a Santería ritual after recovering stolen goods from a rival gang.
Soon after, he and his little sister begin to feel the harassment of a supernatural entity. A traumatized social worker risks everything to help the siblings escape their seemingly doomed fate.
The film will star Mariela Garriga in a leading role under the direction of Ángel González, whose debut “Compulsion” premiered at the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival and was licensed globally to Amazon.
Garriga is best known for her work in “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” She also stars in the film’s second instalment, currently in post-production.

Sky Italia celebrated its 20-year anniversary on Tuesday by announcing a rich slate of upcoming originals, including a second season of the Italian adaptation of “Call My Agent,” which will see “The White Lotus” star Sabrina Impacciatore joining the cast.
Impacciatore’s agent is Gersh and her management is Mgmt.
The Sky Italia originals slate comprises previously announced high-end drama “M. Son of the Century” by British director Joe Wright, alongside less lavish shows in various stages – most of which have international potential. It underscores how the Italian unit of the Comcast-owned pay-tv service continues to be a major Italian industry driver.
While Sky’s German unit, which is believed to be up for sale, has put production on pause, Sky Italia is cranking out Italian originals through the platform’s Sky Studios unit at a steady pace, showing no signs of a slowdown.

Italy’s Cross Productions, in which Germany’s Beta Film has a stake, is shopping “Wolfsburg,” a high-end TV series which turns on an Italian immigrant who during the 1960s arrives in the German city of Wolfsburg, headquarters of Volkswagen Group, and morphs into a murderous werewolf.
The innovative skein, now in advanced development, is being set up as an Italian/German co-production. Beta included it in its Berlinale Series Market presentation. The plan is to unveil a €1 million ($1.1 million) lavish “Wolfsburg” proof-of-concept teaser/trailer during the Beta brunch at MipTV in Cannes next month.
“The basic idea is to mix genres by having horror, or rather fantasy, intersect with Italian neorealism,” said Rosario Rinaldo, chief of Cross. Cross recently made “The Hunter,” the fact-based show about a Palermo prosecutor with a killer instinct for tracking down top Mafiosi that’s made a local splash after premiering in 2018 at Canneseries and also travelled some.

Reciprocating an exchange which saw Series Mania 2019 Co-Pro Pitching winner “Capturing Big Mouth” participate at this year’s Berlin CoPro Series, German project “Transitniki” will make the return trip to Lille next month, having been selected by Series Mania representatives in Berlin.
From Germany’s Rohfilm Factory, “Transitniki” is set in 1985, behind the Iron Curtain, and tracks groups of thrill-seeking young East Germans, feeling trapped in their own country, who find a way to enter the Soviet Union illegally using transit visas. There, they are able to satiate their desires for travel and adventure in Russia’s untamed wilds.
The series is written by an experienced trio of TV screenwriters in Heide Schwochow, Constantin Lieb and Christian Mackrodt. There is no one creator, no showrunner and no head writer. In fact, when producer Karsten Stöter was putting his writers’ room together, some told him his democratic methodology for screenwriting would never work.

Today was determinedly eclectic, the kind of cinephile's dream that you can only put together in a festival as inclusive as Telluride. As I walked briskly toward the Sheridan Opera House to catch a tripartite program -- a screening of "Slow Food Story," a documentary about its founder, the charismatic Carlo Petrini, followed by the awarding of the inaugural Food, Inc. Movement Award to Alice Waters, and a lively and emotional panel discussion among Alice, the film's director, Stefano Sardo, Michael Pollan, and Berlinale head Dieter Kosslick -- I run into Davia Nelson, one of the Kitchen Sisters, walking briskly in the opposite direction. "Not going to Alice's program?!," I ask, surprised. "No, I wish I could, but I'm doing the Q & A with Nicolas Philibert, who I love," she says. Oof, I really wanted to see "La Maison de la Radio," Philibert's documentary about Radio France, having twice spent...

While many film festivals announce their titles weeks or months in advance, the annual Telluride Film Festival saves that list until the day before the festival begins.
As a result, they've just announced this year's slate which includes the world premieres of Jason Reitman's "Labor Day". David Mackenzie's "Starred Up" will also have its debut screening.
Other high profile titles include "Gravity," "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Nebraska," "All Is Lost," "Blue Is The Warmest Color," "Under The Skin," "Tracks" and "The Past". The festival kicks off on August 29th and here's the full list:
All Is Lost (d. J.C. Chandor, U.S., 2013)
Before The Winter Chill (d. Philippe Claudel, France, 2013)
Bethlehem (d. Yuval Adler, Israel, 2013)

Title: Slow Food Story Director: Stefano Sardo Slow Food Story is the account of a slow revolution. Twenty-five years of quiet and steady rebellion to fast food thinking. Carlo Petrini is the founder of the Slow Food movement that started out in the small town of Bra and conquered the entire globe. Director Stefano Sardo has undoubtably the gift of storytelling, since his documentary isn’t a mere collage of how the entire movement came to life, but portrays how a group of friends, from a small Italian province pursued a dream of a better world, with persistence, temerity and a touch of playful fooling around. Chicago – Early in “The Double Hour,” our heroine (a very effective and nearly movie-saving Ksenia Rappoport) goes to a speed dating session. The movie that follows is not unlike a cinematic version of that modern way of meeting people in that it jumps genre to genre like a suitor jumping tables. The result is a film that has marveled people with its labyrinthine plotting but that ultimately feels about as deep as a speed date. You never really get to know it.
“The Double Hour” refers to the 24 times a day when the clock reads the same hour and minute (for example, 11:11 or, in military time, 22:22) and when a wish can be made (or things can get a bit spooky, as they do in the middle act of the film). Like nearly everything in the story, the odd happenings at “The Double Hour” are meant to add...

When a movie goes by the tagline “Nothing Is What It Seems,” you know you’re in for a long guessing game. For much of director Giuseppe Capotondi’s 96-minute “The Double Hour,” the viewer is wondering whether what’s unfolding up on the screen should be believed or not. What’s more, reviewing the film is an inherently dodgy exercise since one can’t really discuss or critique the movie without giving away its central conceit. Suffice it to say that Capotondi tries for a romantic mystery/thriller in the vein of Christopher Nolan’s structurally snarled “Memento” and “Inception.”
The fundamental difference between “The Double Hour” and the Nolan movies, however, is that, in “Memento” and “Inception,...
