Amy Stoller was born in New York City to a show business family, and
began her career as an actor who excelled at performing in accents and
dialects. Over time her career emphasis shifted to coaching others to
achieve the same level of performance in accent and dialects. In
addition to excelling at accents and dialects of numerous languages, she has a special
expertise in idiolect work, as exemplified by her work coaching
Carmen Ejogo in Coretta Scott King's speech
pattern for Selma (2014), coaching
Anna Deavere Smith in dozens of individual
real-life speech patterns for
Great Performances: Let Me Down Easy and Notes from the Field, and helping
Justin Bartha blend with the real
Jack Werner in WWII in HD.
Amy also maintains a thriving theatrical practice in New York and regional theatre, with many New York Times Critic's Pick and award-winning productions to her credit. On Broadway she coached Jessie Mueller as Carole King (Tony Award) in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She also coaches actors in private practice. Amy has published articles on dialect work, theatre, film, and literature, is an officer of VASTA, the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, and is an associate editor of IDEA, the International Dialects of English Archive.
