Patrick Stewart was a hard sell for Star Trek: Picard since he believed that Jean-Luc Picard’s arc was finished after Star Trek: Nemesis. However, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and other creators of the series convinced him to take on the role in the series. He put a lot of consideration into committing to the project, as evident from a list of three conditions he presented to the creators.

They were obviously not thrilled about the conditions and tried to reason with the X-Men actor, who stuck to his guns. While the creators agreed to them, they did one thing that Stewart asked them specifically not to do in the conditions during the third season of the series.

Patrick Stewart was determined not to return to the Star Trek universe after his appearance in the film, Star Trek: Nemesis. He conveyed this to Alex Kurtzman when the latter met with him to pitch a series based on his character Jean-Luc Picard. Kurtzman brought along novelist Kirsten Beyer and screenwriter James Duff to convince Stewart that there was a lot to revisit in Picard’s character.

After much consideration, Stewart agreed to the series Star Trek: Picard, but not before setting a few conditions that the creators had to follow stringently. These conditions may have also sealed the fate of a potential fourth season of the series.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert might host comedy shows, but according to a new poll, they’re about as trusted as serious news anchors.
The Hollywood Reporter and decision intelligence firm Morning Consult asked 2,239 adults in the U.S. how much they trusted various TV hosts. While the survey’s focus was mostly on news anchors, three politically-inclined late-night hosts were also included in the survey—and performed favorably.
The survey was conducted over two days in early May, well into Jon Stewart’s run as Monday-night host of The Daily Show.
Asked “How much do you trust [insert anchor name here]?,” respondents had a choice of 5 answers: “A lot,” “Some,” “Not much,” “Not at all,” or “Don’t know / No opinion.”
Both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert fared about the same: 57% of those surveyed said they had either “a lot” or “some” trust in both hosts.

The acclaimed Hollywood star Patrick Stewart once reflected on Piers Morgan’s CNN exit after his talk show was canceled. Launched in 2011, Piers Morgan Live featured interviews with politicians, celebrities, and public figures. Despite its three-year tenure, the program struggled to resonate with American primetime audiences, leading to its cancellation in 2014 amidst dwindling viewership.

"The First Omen" was one of the biggest movie surprises of the year. What could've easily been a cheap, lazy cash-in on IP awareness turned out to be an inventive, smart, and surprisingly disturbing horror movie that just happens to be a prequel. As Witney Seibold wrote in his /Film review: "In an age when long-in-the-tooth horror franchises like 'Halloween' and 'The Exorcist' are being tiresomely revived without a trace of creativity, it's refreshing and splendid to see a picture that is thoughtfully menacing, uniquely stylish, deathfully intense, and utterly terrifying. 'The First Omen' is a film of dank, bloody, spittle-flecked dread, made no less powerful by the foregone conclusion."
In "The First Omen," we follow a young novitiate (Nell Tiger Free) who is sent to help at an orphanage in Rome. Once there, she begins to experience terrifying visions that hint at a grand conspiracy involving unspeakable evil.

We might finally be getting a new X-Men film as Michael Lesslie has been tapped to write a new film for Marvel.
It looks like the X-Men have come to stay in the MCU. After the disappointing Dark Phoenix, the X-Men have been laying low until we got quick teases in Ms. Marvel and The Marvels before Deadpool & Wolverine re-introduces everyone’s favourite grumpy mutant proper.
Deadline now reports that Marvel is planning a proper X-Men movie and Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen the script. Lesslie wrote last year’s Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, proving he can adapt someone else’s material. Lesslie has also penned the script for the new Now You See Me sequel which will be filming later this year.
The film is officially in development, but it’s still early days and there is no news...

Two of the most celebrated shows in Emmy history are set to experience a weird awards season.
Saturday Night Live, which has won more Emmys than any other show in television history, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which has won in its category eight years in a row, could both face the indignity of not being officially nominated for an Emmy as a result of submission rules.
The number of submissions in the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category is expected to be significantly lower than last year. In addition to SNL and Oliver’s HBO show, the only other shows understood to be submitting in this category are CBS’ Taylor Tomlinson-hosted After Midnight, HBO’s Painting with John and The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman, which launched in April.
Per TV Academy rules, categories with fewer than 7 submissions will be “screened by the appropriate peer group...

During his Monday return to the anchor chair, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart brought up the topic of the so-called cancel culture that is allegedly plaguing the political right. He concluded that while mostly these pundits claim the woke left are coming to get them, the true cancel culture of today only occurs when a Republican speaks ill of former president Donald Trump.
Following some light jabs and gags around Trump’s current criminal trial in New York — one which had Stewart comparing the former president to the cartoon character Mr. Magoo (‘He’s just stumbling around, quid pro quo and metal beams falling all around, gets out completely unscathed”), the host brought up the hot topic of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Jon Stewart was back on The Daily Show and compared Donald Trump to Mr. Magoo as the hush money trial continues.
Michael Cohen wrapped up his testimony and admitted he had stolen from the Trump Organization, which prompted Stewart to compare the former Potus to the animated character.
“How lucky is Donald Trump?” Stewart said. “Donald Trump is like a corruption Mr. Magoo. He’s just stumbling around, quid pro quo-ing, metal beams falling all around him [and] gets out completely unscathed.”
Mr. Magoo is a fictional character who appeared in the Upa animated series Mister Magoo, voiced by Jim Backus. The character is an elderly, wealthy retiree who gets into comical situations and, through sheer luck, always finds himself unharmed.
Trump is on trial and faces 34 felony charges of falsifying business records to conceal other crimes. All of this was to payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to silence her amid the 2016 U.

You don’t have to be an expert on classic soul and R&b to recognize the American music monuments that emerged from Stax Records in the Sixties and Seventies. Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man,” Otis Redding’s “Respect” and “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay,” Isaac Hayes’ “Theme From Shaft,” and the Staple Singers’ “I’ll Take You There” — just a few of Stax’s greatest hits — made the case that the Memphis-based record company was the Southern version of Motown.

The Commission on Presidential Debates was founded 35 years ago, and it has overseen the general election presidential and vice-presidental debates ever since—until this year.
Which makes The Daily Show‘s booking of the Cpd founder co-chair Frank Fahrenkopf tonight a bit of a “get,” coming hot on the heels of news last week that both President Biden and Former President Trump had agreed to face-off at two presidential debates that would be held outside the purview of his organization.
The Commission had previously announced plans to host a series of debates in September and October, which both campaigns criticised for being too late in the election cycle. Although the Cpd has said it’s still ready to execute on those plans, Stewart’s guest tonight seems be taking more of a scorched-earth approach to his reponse that Biden independently arranged debates with CNN and ABC—and that Trump had agreed to participate in them.

Jon Stewart told a “Daily Show” studio audience that none other than fellow late-night TV king David Letterman gave him the best advice he’s ever received — and also managed to insult him at the same time.
Stewart responded to an audience member who asked about the best advice he’d ever received, commenting that it was “such an end-of-life question” and joked, “Nobody ever comes to like a 22-year-old and like, ‘Best advice.’ They’re like, ‘Well, beer before liquor, never been sicker.'”
The host then added that he didn’t exactly have a mentor when he was coming up in the comedic world, with mentors not being as talked about as they are now when he was rising in the 1970s and ’80s. “I was raised feral,” Stewart explained — but that’s when a memory hit him. “Oh, here’s one,” he continued. “This is a good one.

Tom Hardy loves to keep his social circle small, and during his initial years in Hollywood, he often didn’t engage in small talk with his fellow costars. This was reflected during his time in Star Trek: Nemesis, which remains his first and only appearance in the franchise, as Hardy would spend most of his time in his trailer when the cameras were off.
As a result, his costar Patrick Stewart thought he might never hear of the Venom star again after Nemesis, as the actor hardly communicated with his costars on set.

The 1979 film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, was quite disappointing for fans of the original series. Although the film kicked off the cinematic run of the franchise, it has been regarded as one of the weaker contenders in the entire series. So much so, that some believe it to have almost ruined the film series’s start altogether.

One of the very few franchises that have been able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Star Wars since the dawn of the modern science fiction era in cinema is Star Trek and it has been a battle worthy of being dubbed as the Space Race of Hollywood. However, where Star Wars has remained at the top of its game since the advent of A New Hope, the same cannot be said for its contemporary show, The Next Generation.

James Stewart, more affectionately known as “Jimmy” to his fans, was an Oscar-winning performer who became famous for his polite, gentle screen persona, often playing the aww-shucks boy next door. Yet he also showed his range with a series of performances that found him playing against type. Let’s take a look back at 25 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1908, Stewart earned his first Oscar nomination as Best Actor for playing an idealistic young senator in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” (1939), which firmly established him as the patron saint of the common man. He clinched his one and only victory the very next year for “The Philadelphia Story” (1940), playing a tabloid reporter who stumbles into the marital strife of a high society couple (Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant).
After serving in WWII, Stewart returned home to play George Bailey, a businessman contemplating suicide on Christmas Eve,...

Political organizer Will Stewart entered Wednesday’s (May 15) Jeopardy! with a three-day total of $70,501 and plenty of confidence to continue his winning streak. However, Stewart ended up losing the episode in a closely fought battle with grocery clerk Grant DeYoung, and some fans think host Ken Jennings is to blame for the loss. Stewart picked up right where he left off in the opening round, answering 12 correct clues, including the first Daily Double, to give him the lead with $7,600. Meanwhile, DeYoung trailed with $3,400, and fellow contestant Kathy Olson stood at $1,800. The game heated up in Double Jeopardy! after DeYoung found both Daily Doubles, though he chose to split them rather than go all in. This made things super tight between Stewart and DeYoung as they raced to answer the final clues. But this is where the controversy happened. DeYoung selected the second-to-last clue, which came under the “In The Period Film” category.

Returning champ Will Stewart played a game of high-risk, high-reward in Jeopardy‘s May 14 episode. Fans are praising by his risky bet on a Daily Double, with some saying that it would have been a thrilling bet whether he answered the prompt correctly or not. It’s a good thing he did, because that bet cleared the path for Stewart’s runaway victory. Stewart is a a political organizer originally from Nashville, Tennessee. Playing against him in the episode was Omar Ahmed, an analytics manager from Old Hickory, Tennessee; and Ashley Atkin, a stay-at-home mom & part-time graduate student from Jerome, Idaho. A runaway game in Jeopardy! is when one player’s score is so high, it’s more than double the score of their competitors. It would take a substantial loss in Final Jeopardy for the player in first place to lose in this scenario, but it is does happen semi-regularly on the game show.

One of the most important elements of delivering a memorable movie monster is the reveal. It’s a pivotal moment that finally sees the threat reveal itself in full to its prey, often heralding the final climactic confrontation, which can make or break a movie monster. It’s not just the creature effects and craftmanship laid bare; a monster’s reveal means the horror is no longer up to the viewer’s imagination.
When to reveal the monstrous threat is just as important as How, and few contemporary creature features have delivered a monster reveal as surprising or as cool as 2020’s Underwater.
The Setup
Director William Eubank’s aquatic creature feature, written by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) and Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan), is set around a deep water research and drilling facility, Kepler 822, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, sometime in the future.

Jimmy Kimmel gave a hitchhiking Bruce Springsteen a lift—at least that’s what Kimmel’s daughter thought.
In an interview with Good Morning America today, Kimmel revealed the origins of Stewart’s surprise appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, and his daughter’s reaction to the bit.
The pre-taped segment featured Kimmel and his wife—co-head writer and executive producer Molly McNearney—driving their kids Jane and Billy to school and picking up a hitchhiking Stewart along the way. The bit was a reference to a Jkl segment from six months ago, when Kimmel picked up Olivia Rodrigo, who his kids are huge fans of.
Unsurprisingly, they were less interested in carpooling with Stewart.
“We picked up Olivia Rodrigo, and then Jon called and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if you picked me up and then the kids don’t know who I am?,’” Kimmel told GMA.

Hollywood as an institution is generally known for taking a strong stance towards positively promoting feminism. Kristen Stewart took aim at this trend in a recent interview. Stewart has been facing difficulties in getting funding for her directorial feature film, The Chronology of Water.
The actress pulled no punches and went after Hollywood for congratulating itself for its progressiveness while not doing enough to further it. Stewart made it clear that she thinks the industry has a long way to go when it comes to dismantling the patriarchal nature of society. The actress also pointed out that favoring the projects of a certain few actresses does not make the whole system inherently less patriarchal.

With Jon Stewart in Los Angeles earlier this week for the Netflix Is a Joke festival, The Daily Show switched things up this week. Instead of adhering to The Daily Show‘s regular schedule with Stewart as Monday host, the veteran late nighter hosted Thursday instead.
So, how did Stewart fare last night? According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, The Daily Show averaged 459,000 total viewers with 84,000 P18-49 viewers on Thursday, May 9. That’s down substantially from his average Monday numbers in 2024 to-date (see below), and -33% in total viewers and -47% in P18-49 viewers from his most-recent episode as host.
How does Stewart’s Thursday Daily Show stack up against previous Thursday episodes, with rotating guest hosts at the desk? Prior to Stewart’s episode, The Daily Show had averaged 408,000 total viewers with 89,000 P18-49 viewers on Thursdays in 2024.

It’s official. Galactus is coming to the MCU.
After months of speculation, Marvel officially announced that they’ve found their Galactus. Ralph Ineson, a Game of Thrones veteran known for standout supporting roles in The Witch and The Green Knight, will portray the Devourer of Worlds. Ineson’s casting comes on the heels of other compelling announcements for its upcoming film The Fantastic Four, including Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich. Marvel hasn’t yet disclosed which characters those two are playing, but the smart money has Hauser down for the Mole Man. Malkovich could fit a number of characters, including minor baddies Puppet Master or Diablo, including just a grouchy official. Heck, maybe he’ll finally get to play a version of the Vulture, as he was slated to do in Sam Raimi’s abandoned Spider-Man 4!
While any of those baddies would be fun, the Galactus casting deserves the most attention.

Jon Stewart has been watching the television coverage of the Donald Trump hush money trial, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it.
“It has been another big week of wall-to-wall, nonstop penis-to-penis coverage of Donald Trump’s trial,” Stewart said at the start of his Comedy Central The Daily Show monologue Thursday (he switched from his usual Monday night spot this week). “The ubiquitous coverage is numbing, fading into televised wallpaper with insight that only occasionally crackles through.”
Some examples of that insight? Cue the tapes:
CNN reports that Donald Trump greeted Stormy Daniels in that hotel room wearing “satin or silk pajamas.”
Said Stewart: “Which?! I need to know!”
Another report, stating Stormy and Donald had sex “in the missionary position.”
Said Stewart: “No wonder Trump has locked up the Evangelical voting bloc….Tell us more.”
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell: “Not wearing a condom…”
Stewart: “Don’t tell us more!

Cannes Looms Large
The build-up: The 81st Cannes Film Festival kicks off in less than a week but all the early talk surrounding the fest is about events away from the big screen. The French industry is currently in a state of paralysis as speculation continues to mount in the local film industry over rumors that a bombshell #MeToo exposé will drop on the festival’s first day. There has been talk in the French film industry for weeks that a raft of accusations is due to break in the lead-up and during the upcoming edition. The rumors come amid a fresh #MeToo wave in France, sparked by actress and filmmaker Judith Godrèche’s decision to...
