The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

The upcoming film MaXXXine, directed by Ti West, continues to build on the thematic and visual style that has captivated audiences in the first two entries of his horror trilogy. Building on the gritty, retro vibes of X and Pearl, West’s latest installment takes us to the glitzy yet sinister streets of 1980s Hollywood. Returning as the titular character, Mia Goth plunges into a journey that director Ti West describes as one of introspection and self-discovery. For Mia Goth’s Kate, it’s this journey of introspection and self-discovery and discovering her identity. This role is central to the film, with Goth

The pop culture nostalgia cycle might have moved on to the early 2000s, but for many filmmakers and movie fans, the '80s will never go out of style. That's certainly true for director Ti West, who returns this year with the third chapter of his horror trilogy that started with 2022's "X" and was shortly followed by a surprise prequel, "Pearl." Star Mia Goth will return for this summer's bloody conclusion, "MaXXXine," in which aspiring adult film star (and massacre survivor) Maxine Minx is now trying to break into mainstream movies with a role in horror movie "The Puritan II."
"MaXXXine" is set in 1985 Los Angeles, six years after the events of "X." West recently told Empire magazine that "the '80s aspect of it was a natural, chronological thing" -- but that it was also a great opportunity to draw inspiration from '80s movies. For many people,...

Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), wrapped way back in May of 2023, and just last month we heard that it has earned an R rating for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use as it heads toward its July 5th theatrical release date. With that date swiftly approaching, a poster for MaXXXine has arrived online, sporting the warning that “Hollywood is a killer.” You can check it out at the bottom of this article.
MaXXXine is written and directed by West. Mia Goth reprises the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film has the following synopsis: In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as...

Ti West is channeling Paul Schrader for his trilogy ender “MaXXXine.” Oh, and “The Terminator.”
Writer/director West told Total Film that the 1985 Hollywood-set horror film is just as “hardcore” as Schrader’s filmography, with high concept tie-ins of “The Terminator” and “Vice Squad.” Plus, of course, what “X” film is complete without a hint of giallo?
“It’s poppy, but still grounded in more of a grittier ’80s than a shopping-mall ’80s,” West described his film. “You’re seeing the glamorous side of the movie business and the seedy side of Hollywood.”
West said “MaXXXine” has “a ‘Terminator’-like aesthetic to a Paul Schrader hardcore thing to ‘Vice Squad’ to giallo,” all mixed together.

“She’s mine, and I’m hers.”
The prison movie is a cornerstone of the cinematic landscape. Often adjacent to horror, there’s something inherently horrific about a building full of “convicts” jockeying for power. Criminal masterminds and the wrongfully convicted alike become pawns in a dehumanizing system and struggle to stay alive in the restrictive environment. Claire Denis pushes this genre to its outer limits with sci-fi and horror elements comparing incarceration to the prison of the human body. Her 2018 film High Life follows a group of prisoners turned astronauts who struggle to retain their humanity after the world has cast them out.
When we first meet Monte (Robert Pattinson), he’s raising a toddler on an isolated space station in the galaxy’s outer reaches. His daughter Willow was conceived through assault by fellow inmate Dr. Dibs (Juliette Binoche) as a part of her mission to reproduce in space.

Zac Efron is following The Iron Claw with a new Ti West movie, based on the graphic novel Night Business. More on the film here.
It looks like we may have lost Ti West to the 1980s – at least for a while longer – if a recent report from Daniel Richtman is true.
Richtman is claiming that West’s next film will be Night Business, a 1980s set trashy thriller based on the graphic novel of the same name. The X and Pearl director has recently completed MaXXXine, the third film in his era-hopping horror series. MaXXXine releases in July and is also partly about a serial killer at large in 1980s Los Angeles.
While Ti West has publicly stated that another film in that series could yet happen, his next project looks more likely to be Night Business. Here’s the synopsis, as picked up by World Of Reel:

With the release of MaXXXine less than two months away, Ti West is setting up his next project, which sounds like another helping of pure ’80s sleaze. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Zac Efron is reportedly in talks to star in Night Business, a series adaptation of the cult graphic novel by Benjamin Marra, which Ti West will direct.
A24 will produce the Night Business series with Nathaniel Halpern (Legion) writing the script and serving as showrunner. Here’s the logline: “In this 1980s-trash-culture homage where a knife-wielding killer is on the loose, committing extreme acts of violence on exotic dancers. Only one man has a will powerful enough to stop this psychopath: Johnny Timothy. But can Johnny mete out his vengeance before more innocent victims have to die? A nasty brew of power, passion, vigilantes, and dangerous men raining street justice down upon their enemies.” Zac Efron would play Johnny Timothy,...

The year of 2022 was quite fruitful for horror features, as we saw such genre’s gems, as Barbarian, The Menu, Smile and Scream. However, they all didn’t make enough noise to be everywhere on the Net not only at the time, but over the course of these 2 years too.
There is one movie which obviously managed to do so, given the enormous amount of memes, viral videos and Halloween costumes inspired by it. It’d be surprising to hear that it appears to be a sequel, but it definitely overhyped the original movie.
Its plot focuses on the life of a mentally ill young woman forced to live with her abusive parents and her husband at the farm. She can’t stand this way of life and lusts for the glamorous life of a chorus girl or a film star, but her dreams don't seem to come true.

Being recognized as one of the most talented young actresses of the 21st century, Mia Goth presents horror as her trademark genre. Starting from A Cure for Wellness (2016), the actress has been proving that she impeccably fits in the genre, continuing the fruitful trend of her career with the incredibly successful 2022 slashers X and Pearl.
However, there is a lesser-known 2023 horror movie, where Goth fully reveals her potential as the genre’s queen. Despite its sophisticated nature, it definitely appears to be a must-watch for all fans of the actress and for the most curious cinephiles.
Set in an isolated island resort, it focuses on the married couple, the writer in a creative crisis and his unhappy wife, coming there on a vacation. They meet Goth’s mysterious Gabi, who starts to show them the other side of the resort alongside her husband.

Through his X movies, Ti West has created one of the best, most ambitious horror series going right now. And while we’re on the cusp of his trilogy coming to an end after the slow-burn ‘70s homage X and demented origin story Pearl, some may be eager for more after this summer’s MaXXXine. But will that ever happen?
Ti West confirmed that MaXXXine “will probably be the end of the Maxine era” but did also note, “I do have one idea that plays into these movies that could maybe happen. I don’t know if it’ll be next. It might be. We’ll see.” That’s not too hopeful, but we did go in knowing that Ti West would be delivering a trilogy, so we can’t be all that disappointed if it ends where it was intended to.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019 – but all these years later, we’re still waiting on the film to make its way into production. In fact, with Bob Iger recently announcing that the studio was cutting back (even more) on Marvel stuff, Blade’s future seems in limbo. So, here’s Everything We Know About Blade.

With X, Ti West lovingly re-conjured the scuzzy spirit of ‘70s classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. With its surprise prequel Pearl, he dialled back to clock to early Technicolor game-changers like The Wizard Of Oz, taking the yellow brick road and painting it blood-red. And now, for his trilogy-capper MaXXXine, he’s heading into the 1980s – taking Mia Goth’s aspiring star Maxine and plunging her into the sinister, seductive world of Hollywood.
As well as taking audiences six years beyond the events of X, in which Goth’s Maxine was the sole survivor of the Farmer’s Daughter massacre, the ‘80s setting of MaXXXine is a major influence on how the film looks and feels. “A big part of the aesthetic of the movie is the shiny parts of Hollywood [versus] the seedy parts of Hollywood,” West tells Empire in the Deadpool & Wolverine issue. “The shiny type of movies that are made,...

For now, we’re only including movies that have a known release date, so films like the remakes/reboots of The Toxic Avenger and Witchboard are currently absent because they don’t have a release date yet, even though they’re likely to show up at some point in 2024. With MaXXXine set to release in cinemas later this summer, Ti West has confirmed that he’s mooting a return to his celebrated series of horror films.
While some may have assumed that Ti West might be finished with his series of slasher films starring Mia Goth after this year’s MaXXXine, that may not be the case. The 1980s-set installment of West’s series of A24 films will be the last trilogy entry, with each movie featuring Mia Goth as she takes on multiple roles across different eras. The first two films, X and Pearl (pictured) were well-received, and anticipation is high for MaXXXine, which is set to arrive in cinemas here in the UK in July.
According to the filmmaker himself, it seems though more ideas are percolating for tales that will continue the series’ story in one way or another.

With that date just two months away, last week, USA Today unveiled a new image from the film that dropped Mia Goth into an ’80s party scene:
Not to be outdone, Entertainment Weekly, in their annual Summer Movie Preview, has also dropped a bunch of new pics for the movie, revealing our first looks at Goth’s co-stars, including a very bloody Kevin Bacon, Yellowjackets star (and horror super fan) Sophie Thatcher, and Elizabeth Debicki. The third installment in Ti West’s trilogy, A24 will be releasing X and Pearl follow-up MaXXXine in theaters July 5, and Entertainment Weekly has shared four new images today.
With her past catching up to her, Maxine attempts to make it big as a superstar in mid-80s Hollywood in the upcoming MaXXXine. Check out the brand new images down below.
Trilogy director Ti West tells Entertainment Weekly in their preview piece, “The thing that the other two movies don’t have is that sort of scope. To try to do a big, sprawling Los Angeles ensemble movie is what the movie was, and that’s just a big undertaking. There’s a kind of noir-ish mystery vibe to the movie that’s very fun.”
Mia Goth stars alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, Sophia Thatcher, and Kevin Bacon.

The new Superman suit has officially debuted. As filming on James Gunn’s “Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy”) continues, the writer-director shared to his Threads account a first look at star David Corenswet in costume as the Man of Steel. The first thing fans might notice is the suit is quite dirty and weathered, which suggests Superman will be doing plenty of down and dirty fighting in the movie.
Gunn added on Threads that the first look photo “was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”
Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to “Superman” was probably “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring Mia Goth.

The most famous Pennywise actor, Bill Skarsgård, has already made his name as a brilliant horror performer while starring not only in the two It movies, but also in the chilling series Hemlock Grove (2013–2015) and Castle Rock (2018–2019).
Continuing his major career trend, he also took part in a smaller-scale project, which didn’t suffer from its modest budget at all. On the contrary, it received lots of hype and even now, two years after its release, it is holding the second place in Netflix’s chart.
The movie’s plot revolves around the haunted house, and this trope is obviously used in an enormous number of horrors. However, here the monster, typically hiding in the basement, doesn’t turn out to be the main evil, damaging the characters the most.

In 2022, horror director Ti West released his homage to the slasher films of the past, simply titled X. The first of a trilogy, X was a critical and box office hit. Now the trilogy is about to be completed with a number of big-name actors, including Kevin Bacon – in a role that may create an in-universe paradox.
The Trilogy Kicks Off
2022's X takes place in 1979, and follows aspiring film producer Wayne Gilroy (Martin Henderson) and his much younger girlfriend Maxine (Mia Goth) who dreams of being a movie star. Along with a small crew, Gilroy rents out a building on a farm run by an elderly couple, not telling them that they are making a pornographic feature.
When elderly farmower Pearl (also played by Mia Goth) is drawn to Maxine's resemblance to her younger self, she is reminded of her lost youth and her own dreams of superstardom. Pearl...

Max announced on Friday that the acclaimed wrestling drama The Iron Claw from Cannes and Sundance prize-winning filmmaker Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) will begin streaming exclusively on the platform through its output deal with distributor A24 on May 10.
Based on a true story, The Iron Claw follows the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day. The film specifically hones in on the supposed “Von Erich curse,” which would see one Von Erich brother after another meet their untimely end, leaving just Kevin Von Erich (Zac Efron) left.
Written and directed by Durkin, the film also stars Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney and Lily James, among others. A24 financed the pic alongside Access Entertainment and BBC Films. In addition to A24, producers included Tessa Ross,...

Mahershala Ali has been attached to the Blade reboot for what seems like almost an eternity now. The actor’s casting was received very well. Most importantly, he is not a new face to Marvel fans, since he played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage.
The actor is very well-respected in the industry, owing to his charming personality and acting chops. However, his turn as the Daywalker in the Marvel reboot is still up in the air, with the production yet to take off. If rumors are to be believed, the film looks set to make yet another change, thereby raising questions about Ali’s possible MCU debut.

Authenticity holds a lot of value in Hollywood. As much as audiences love to watch remakes, retellings, and sequels, nothing catches their attention more than something original and magnificent. The one studio that is best known for only creating content like this is A24. The perfect example of such a story would be their recently released movie, Civil War.
Image via Civil War Trailer – A24 | YouTube
In the classic style of the studio, the movie features an A-list cast of actors like Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, Cailee Spaeny, and Wagner Moura, but has still managed to remain, somewhat, under the radar. With its recent release, the movie has gotten nothing short of splendid reviews from audiences and critics alike, hinting at a successful future at the box office.

If you keep up with our updates, you’ve probably noticed that ‘Blade’ gets mentioned almost weekly. We often share news about plot changes and delays. It’s safe to say this movie’s had a rough time in development – there have been a lot of rewrites and some big names backing out. The latest rumors, from Daniel Richtman, just confirm what we shared a few weeks back: ‘Blade’ won’t be a period piece anymore, and Mia Goth is still set to play the villain.
Additionally, it’s said that the movie will connect to the ‘Midnight Sons’ project. Currently, it’s set in the present day. Michael Green has reportedly been brought in for rewrites and is now the sole scriptwriter for the movie.
‘Blade’ is reportedly now set to take place in present days.

A few days ago, Fangoria ran an article on character actor Ralph Ineson, whose credits include The Witch, The First Omen, Brahms: The Boy II, The Creator, Willow, The Green Knight, and much more, naming him “a modern horror icon.” Ineson took to social media to thank Fangoria for their kind words – and in response to Ineson’s post, director Guillermo del Toro revealed that Ineson has a “pivotal cameo” in his latest film, Frankenstein! Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), wrapped way back in May of 2023, and we still have a few months to wait before A24 gives it a theatrical release on July 5th… but the folks on the Motion Picture Association ratings board already had the chance to watch the movie, and they have picked their rating for it. MaXXXine has earned an R for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use. Sounds like a good time at the movies to me!

And, action. A few years back, Ti West and Mia Goth took the horror world by surprise – not with the fact that their slasher team-up X was excellent (West’s work has long been acclaimed), but with the news that, during its production, the pair had devised and shot an imminent prequel, the 1920s-set Pearl. Together, the two films made fascinating companion-pieces – each evoking different eras of filmmaking without holding back on the gore, the scares, and some surprising melancholy undertones. Add in astonishing performances from Goth as both rising porn star Maxine Minx and psycho killer Pearl, and you had an instant double-whammy hit. Now, they’re about to cap it off with X sequel MaXXXine – taking Ms. Minx into 1980s Hollywood. Watch the trailer:

This new installment in the X series marks the third entry, following the original film and its prequel Pearl, both released in 2022.
Returning as the protagonist Maxine, Mia Goth reprises her role as the adult film actress who emerged as the lone survivor of the events depicted in X. However, this time, she’s supported by an impressive ensemble cast.
Among the cast are Giancarlo Esposito from Better Call Saul, Lily Collins from Emily in Paris, Elizabeth Debicki from The Crown, Bobby Cannavale from Ant-Man and The Wasp, and the iconic Kevin Bacon.
While X was set at the end of the 1970s in rural Texas, this film moves the action into the ’80s and to the glamour of Los Angeles, as Maxine attempts to pursue a career as a big Hollywood starlet.

Quick: Name five stars who got their start in horror movies. This is such an easy question, even for much of today’s modern crop of Gen-z talent. So posing it in the 1980s is hardly fair. And yet, that is what Mia Goth’s eternally striving dreamer does at the top of the new MaXXXine trailer from A24.
“Jamie Lee Curtis, John Travolta, Demi Moore, and—” Maxine’s video store clerk buddy rattles off. She cuts him off before what surely must have been Kevin Bacon. At least it’s easy to presume this, because the trailer almost immediately cuts to a shot of a slightly older Bacon, who’s transitioned from big screen heartthrob to cinema statesman, stating, “My employer is a very powerful man.” Once upon a time, Bacon might’ve said the same thing about Sean S. Cunningham. After all, Bacon got his start in Cunningham’s ‘80s schlock classic,...

Mia Goth gets one more grisly shot at stardom in the new trailer for MaXXXine, the final installment of her slasher flick trilogy with director Ti West.
The film is set in 1985, several years after the gruesome events of X, against the backdrop of the Night Stalker killings in Los Angeles. Goth’s character, Maxine, has reinvented herself as Maxine Minx, and is angling to make the jump from adult films to horror, and then finally, to total Hollywood stardom and domination.
But those best-laid plans are inevitably upended when a private detective,...
