The Peripheral is not returning for a second season on Prime Video after all. Amazon has reversed its renewal due to the work stoppage stemming from the current writers and actors strikes in the industry. The strikes have delayed production for several shows, and those series headed into their second seasons are among the most vulnerable to cancellation.
Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, and Austin Rising, the series is based on the novel by William Gibson. It follows a woman (Moretz) trying to keep her family together.

Despite doing well in its first season, Prime Video has sadly reversed its renewal of The Peripheral.
The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.
The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.
What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.
Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.
With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.
An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series hailed from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films banner, who are under an overall deal at Amazon Studios. “The Peripheral” follows Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. “The Peripheral” has been canceled at Amazon’s Prime Video, Variety has learned.
The news comes despite the fact that Amazon renewed the show for a second season back in February. The series, based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, debuted on Amazon on Oct. 21, 2022.
It starred Chloë Grace Moretz and hailed from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan under their rich overall deal with Amazon. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the decision to not move forward with the second season was heavily influenced by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. In essence, even if the show was to go back into production soon, Season 2 would not be available until close to if not into 2025.
Per the official logline, the series “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America.

Exclusive: Prime Video will not be going forward with the previously ordered second season of its sci-fi drama series The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Deadline has learned.
I hear The Peripheral is not the only Amazon scripted series whose renewal has been rescinded and there is at least one other series that won’t go to a second season.
According to sources, the cancellation stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA strike, now in its 109th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike, in Day 36, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
While this is the first known case of a renewal reversal amid the current strike, as Deadline reported earlier this week, there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day,...

Prime Video has had a rough track record with their science-fiction programming, with both "Paper Girls" and the J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek "Night Sky" getting the axe after just one season. However, the streamer is hoping to turn the tides with their new Chloë Grace Moretz-starring adaptation of "The Peripheral," based on William Gibson's novel of the same name. The series centers on a young woman named Flynne, who comes across a VR helmet that gives her the ability to be transported 70 years in the future. She thinks at first she's just in a dystopian game, but quickly realizes this is the world ahead. Now, Flynne is torn between enduring her rural existence in her own timeline, and being caught in a battle leading toward the impending fall of London.

Chloë Grace Moretz discovers a dangerous virtual reality in the official trailer for Amazon Prime Video series “The Peripheral,” from “Westworld” creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
In the sci-fi thriller series based on William Gibson’s novel, Moretz plays Flynne Fisher, a young woman living in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2032 with her Marine veteran brother Burton (Jack Reynor) and ailing mother. As their mother grows sicker, Flynne and Burton make ends meet by playing paid simulations (aka sims).
According to the show’s official description, “The two siblings share Burton’s avatar, ‘jockeying’ for high-paying customers to beat challenging game levels. When Burton is offered a chance to beta test a new Sim, it’s Flynne who ends up playing, pretending to be her brother. The Sim takes place in London and it tasks Flynne with breaking into a corporation known as the Research Institute—to steal a valuable secret.

Prime Video has been cranking out one sci-fi adventure series after another, with the latest being the Chloë Grace Moretz-starring adaptation of "The Peripheral." Based on William Gibson's novel of the same name, "The Peripheral" is the story of a young woman named Flynne, who discovers what she believes to be a virtual reality helmet that transports her to a timeline 70 years in the future, but soon discovers that this is not a game, it's a glimpse into the dystopian world to come. Now, pulled between her own reality of working grunt jobs in a rural area and an impending future that sees the fall of London's society as we know it, Flynne finds herself at the center of a battle she was never supposed to be a part of.
William Gibson's literary work helped pioneer the cyberpunk subgenre, with "The Peripheral" proving foundational for modern sci-fi stories like "Back Mirror.

"Don't flinch." 1091 Pictures has released a trailer for an indie crime thriller titled Blonde. Purple, from English filmmaker Marcus Flemmings. This film is launching on VOD at the end of November if anyone is interested in watching. The story is about an inexperienced criminal who is stuck inside a bank with a teenage hostage after a heist goes wrong. How will he get out? The film follows his journey to escape, while also taking us back to show how he got into this situation to begin with. Starring Julian Moore-Cook, Ellie Bindman, Adam J. Bernard, Jennifer Lee Moon, and Jessica Murrain. This is a much better trailer than I was expecting, by all means, and the film doesn't look bad either. I dig the colorful title cards and introduction, along with all the style and characters. Might actually be an indie surprise? Worth a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Marcus Flemmings' Blonde.

Endeavour Series 8 Episode 1 Review: ‘Striker’
Warning: this Endeavour review contains spoilers.
It’s 1971, and Oxford’s finest are, as ever, dealing with all of humanity’s worst impulses. Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) wakes up late from a hangover, leaving Di Thursday (Roger Allam) waiting in vain for his usual morning lift to work from his Detective Sergeant. It’s not behaviour we’d expect from our Morse…except, of course, it is, when you think about it.
John Thaw’s Inspector was a man who suffered silently, and it’s that version of the character that the sensitive, easily hurt young man we met back in Endeavour’s pilot episode nine years ago is growing into. It isn’t going to be fun to witness, but it’s what we signed up for. The shocking events of series seven’s finale, in which any last vestiges of Morse’s innocence were snuffed out forever,...
