M83 has officially dropped a fan-favorite track from the Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming era called “Mirror.”
Upon the original release of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming in 2011, “Mirror” was a hidden track found only as a secret download in the packaging of the CD, and it was later released as a 7-inch Record Store Day exclusive. This marks the first time the track has received a proper digital release, although dedicated M83 fans have come to love it as a frequent closer to Anthony Gonzalez’s live sets.
“It’s a track that never came out digitally and we close our shows with that song,” Gonzalez told Billboard recently of “Mirror.” “The response of the audience has been great so far, and it’s an unknown song that deserves to be properly released in my opinion.”
“Mirror” calls to mind other Hurry Up highlights with its unfettered joyful energy.

The 2022 event featured the announcement of two new Pixar movies and Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Wish," the first footage from "Elemental," the first footage from the live-action "Little Mermaid" remake, Rachel Zegler presenting the first teaser for "Snow White," Jude Law presenting a first look at Disney's "Peter Pan & Wendy," and the entire original cast of "Enchanted" showing up to introduce the trailer for "Disenchanted." On the Marvel Studios front, the showcase included a first look at "The Marvels," footage from "Loki" season 2, a preview of "Werewolf By Night," and a teaser for "Secret Invasion," among other treats.

The Movie: "Coco"
Where You Can Stream It: Disney+
The Pitch: If you're looking for a beautiful film to watch in honor of Día de Los Muertos, Pixar's "Coco" will have you laughing through tears. The 2017 film is, in my humble opinion, one of the best things Pixar has ever done. It's gorgeous, it's funny, introduces the world to some wonderful traditions, and it's going to require a giant box of tissues. You've been warned.
In the small Mexican town of Santa Cecilia lives a young boy named Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) who loves his family, his Xoloitzcuintle dog buddy Dante, and, more than anything else, music. Normally that would be great, but his family has banned music. You see,...

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) — the vice chair of the Jan. 6 committee and one of the only Republican to openly criticize former President Donald Trump — saw her bid for reelection come to an end on Tuesday when she lost the Republican primary to represent Wyoming’s at-large district in Congress.

By a vote of 223-204, the House of Reprsentatives on Wednesday has put together broad gun control legislation on what was largely a party-line vote.
The measure now moves to the Senate, where it faces a sterner test. It’s likely that anything that passes will be whittled down to draw in torn legislators for partisan support.
The vote capped a day where parents and children who have experienced mass shootings spoke before a House committee. The speakers included an 11-year-old from Uvalde, Texas, who survived that recent school shooting by smearing herself with blood and playing dead..
The House legislation includes a bid to raise the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21. The so-called “Protecting Our Kids Act” would also ban large capacity ammunition feeding devices while toughening criminal penalties for gun trafficking and “straw purchases.” There are also provisions for storage of guns in residences.

Garrett Soldano released a pretty strange campaign ad last fall. The only words spoken in it came from a voice aggressively asking, “Who?” and a chorus twice chanting “We The People!” in response. The rest of the ad was 45 seconds of footage of Soldano firing various weapons at a gun range, set to a heavy, looping guitar riff.
Soldano is not running for sheriff, or even for a seat in the state House. He’s a Republican running to become the next governor of Michigan.

As former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham has started appearing in the media with the publication of her new book, she wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post on Tuesday that elaborated on her breakup with her boyfriend, Max Miller, one of Donald Trump’s aides.
Grisham claimed that he became physically abusive as she ended their relationship, but he has responded by filing a defamation lawsuit against her on Tuesday.

At least that’s what the former president is telling his dinner buddies.

Donald Trump’s latest rally was another greatest hits of media attacks, 2020 election falsehoods and long-held and more recent grievances, and while it drew a large in-person crowd in Wellington, Ohio, it did’t get an audience on the three major cable news networks.
The reason: They didn’t carry it.
C-span carried the rally as part of its Road to 2024, as Trump is a potential candidate in the next election, and it also drew coverage on right wing outlets Newsmax and One America News Network. Fox News stayed with its Saturday night lineup of Watters World and Justice with Judge Jeanine; CNN featured an interview with former Vice President Al Gore, among other segments, and MSNBC had The Week with Joshua Johnson.

Former President Donald Trump is going Rino hunting today in Ohio, rallying in support of a challenger to a Republican representative who voted to impeach him.
Ohio Rep. Anthony Gonzalez is the target of today’s Trump “Save America” rally, with Trump hoping to boost support for Max Miller, a former aide of the 45th president, who is challenging Gonzalez in the district’s Republican primary next year. It is Trump’s first rally since the January 6 event at the Capitol.
Trump, whose own political future is murky (some say he may use the rally to make his 2024 aspirations clear) is planning to go after the 10 Republicans who sided with Democrats in his impeachment by the House of Representatives. Newsmax will televise the rally on its television channel and on its website.
The Ohio rally will be the first of three public appearances for Trump, who will have a trip to the U.

"Fish on!!" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for the inspirational family film Blue Miracle, based on a true story about a Mexican orphanage that competes in a fishing tournament. After a hurricane leaves their boys home nearly destroyed, they decide to partner with a local fishing boat captain, as played by Dennis Quaid, and enter the tournament (Bisbee's Black & Blue) with no hope - only dreams. The film's main cast includes Jimmy Gonzales, Anthony Gonzalez, Bruce McGill, Nathan Arenas, Raymond Cruz, Miguel Angel Garcia, Isaac Arellanes, Steve Gutierrez, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Fernanda Urrejola, andSilverio Palacios. As uplifting as this true story is, this is one of these perfectly campy films filled with cheesiness designed to make "all audiences" feel good. At least Quaid has some good lines in this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Julio Quintana's Blue Miracle, from Netflix's YouTube: The incredible true story of Casa Hogar,...

The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to impeach President Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” making him the first president in American history to have been impeached twice.

There’s no mistaking it: the animation medium absolutely exploded in the 2010s, with films in all mediums, from everywhere in the world, and for every possible audience achieving incredible artistic heights throughout the decade. Narrowing the best animated movies of the 2010s down to a mere 10 choices was practically a fool’s errand, and led to a great many sacrifices of funny, poignant, thrilling and utterly unique motion pictures that — on any other day, or in any other decade — could have easily comprised this entire list instead. But these 10 animated features are undeniably worthy of celebration and acclaim, and seem destined to enthrall audiences of the future as much as they did the audiences of today.

The Ncaa on Tuesday caved to outside pressure from legislators, judges, and former college athletes by announcing it would allow student-athletes to earn compensation from the use of their names, images, and likenesses. For decades, college athletes have seen their likenesses used to sell video games, their faces used to advertise nationally televised broadcasts, and their names emblazoned on jerseys sold to fans. What they have not seen, however, is a dime in compensation.
Now, it appears the Ncaa is taking a baby step in the direction of giving student-athletes a cut of the proceeds.

M83 have announced a new album, Dsvii. The sequel to 2007’s ambient album, Digital Shades Vol. 1, the new LP will be released on September 20th via Mute and is available for pre-order.
The album, which follows 2016’s Junk, is primarily influenced by video game music. “It felt so refreshing to play all of these old school games again,” frontman Anthony Gonzalez wrote on the band’s website. “There is something so naïve and touching about them. It’s simple and imperfect. And this is exactly what I tried to achieve with Dsvii.

The last two Emmy winners for Best Movie/Mini Actor have been unusually young for a category that usually gravitates towards elder statesmen. Riz Ahmed (“The Night Of”) won in 2017 when he was 34, and then Darren Criss (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace”) prevailed in 2018 at age 31. Criss was actually the second youngest actor ever to win that prize. Could another whippersnapper prevail in 2019. Our current racetrack odds favor the veterans, but a number of younger stars have the potential to sneak through.
Our odds (check them out here) are calculated by combining the predictions of thousands of Gold Derby readers like you who have made their forecasts here in our predictions center, and as of this writing the top six contenders for Best Movie/Mini Actor skew older. The youngest, in fact, is current front-runner Mahershala Ali (“True Detective”) at 45. He’s followed in our odds by Sam Rockwell (50) for “Fosse/Verdon,...

And so the calendar closes on yet another TV year. As critics start to assemble year-end best lists and look forward to what the next 12 months might have in store, there’s still a final flurry of new original programming to sift through before 2018 fades away.
Per usual, these are spread out across broadcast, cable, and subscription services, this time with an extra peppering of original films debuting on TV airtime. With plenty of other options to juggle as 2018 closes, allow this one final collection to cap off the bunch.
(We do this roundup of new shows pretty much every month — if you missed any of those previous picks, here are some notable TV premieres from February, March, April, May, June, July, August, October, November, and our giant fall preview.)

"In this very moment, you have to grow up." HBO has released the official trailer for a film titled Icebox, which first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year. Adapted from filmmaker Daniel Sawka's award-winning short film of the same name from 2016, Icebox is about a young boy seeking asylum who becomes trapped inside America's rigid immigration process. Young actor Anthony Gonzalez stars as Oscar, with a full cast including Genesis Rodriguez, Omar Leyva, Johnny Ortiz, Matthew Moreno, and Jessica Juarez. This very timely, very upsetting film shows just how horrible they treat these people, kids included, who are just trying to life a better life in America. Even though it may be infuriating, this is worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Daniel Sawka's Icebox, direct from HBO's YouTube: A young boy named Oscar (Anthony Gonzalez), forced to flee his home and seek asylum...

HBO Films announced on Thursday that it has acquired the worldwide rights to director-writer Daniel Sawka’s feature film debut “Icebox.”
The film stars Anthony Gonzalez (“Coco”) as Oscar, a 12-year-old Honduran boy who is forced to flee his home and seek asylum in the U.S., only to find himself trapped in the U.S. immigration system.
As Oscar attempts to reach his uncle in Arizona, he is apprehended by Border Patrol and placed in “the icebox,” a detention facility where he joins scores of other migrant children being held without their families. Faced with a seemingly impenetrable immigration system, Oscar struggles to navigate a path to freedom, with a journalist and his uncle, himself a recent immigrant, as his only lifelines.

HBO Films has acquired the worldwide rights to director-writer Daniel Sawka’s timely drama feature Icebox, which premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.
Produced by Oscar- and Emmy-winning James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films and co-financed with Endeavor Content, Icebox will debut Friday, December 7 on HBO.
Filmed on location in New Mexico, the film was shot primarily in Spanish with English subtitles. It tells the story of Óscar, played by Anthony Gonzalez (Coco), a 12-year-old Honduran boy who is forced to flee his home and seek asylum in the United States, only to find himself trapped in the U.S. immigration system.
“I have seldom seen a movie so of the moment – it’s almost reportage,” said Len Amato, president, HBO Films. “Icebox gives viewers not only an opportunity to witness what it’s like inside these migrant detention centers, but also to feel the emotions of the children,...

Writer-director Daniel Sawka’s “Icebox” has been acquired by HBO Films. The feature, produced by James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films and co-financed with Endeavor Content, is set to debut Dec. 7 on HBO.

Brooks and Gracie Films teamed with Sawka to expand the project from a master’s thesis short into a feature-length film.

It’s difficult for a film to feel timelier than “Icebox,” writer-director Daniel Sawka’s precisely detailed and arrestingly spare drama about a 12-year-old Honduran boy whose desperate flight from gang violence in his homeland leads to his arrest near the U.S.-Mexican border, and subsequent incarceration in one of the several chain-link-fence cages at an immigrant detention facility.
According to an end-credits statement, Sawka — who expanded this feature from his award-winning 2016 short with the help of producer James L. Brooks — was finishing post-production work when the grim situation he depicts here turned unimaginably worse, due to Trump administration “zero-tolerance” policies that greatly diminished the ability of migrants like his movie’s protagonist to apply for asylum in the United States.
In a sense, “Icebox” represents the latest iteration of the socially conscious, torn-from-the-headlines melodramas that were a Warner Bros. specialty in the 1930s and’40s. But unlike such spiritual antecedents as,...

The end credits provide both the most potent moment and the most superfluous one in Daniel Sawka’s “Icebox,” a drama about immigration which premiered on Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Those credits tick off all the things that happened during the film’s postproduction period: the hard line taken by the Donald Trump administration on refugees fleeing Central and South America, the denial of refugee status to victims of gang violence in their home countries, the no-tolerance policy that has separated families, the children taken from their parents at the border …
Coming at the end of a film that details the plight of a 12-year-old boy forced to flee Honduras because of gang threats, the onscreen fact points turn the wrenching story of one boy into a sad statement on our country’s treatment of those in need, and reinforce just how timely “Icebox” is.

Exclusive: Talk about having the pulse of an issue. Daniel Sawka first wrote and directed Icebox as a short film for his American Film Institute thesis project in 2016. The pic ended up being shortlisted for a 2018 Oscar, won a jury prize at AFI Fest and screened at Telluride. At some point James L. Brooks saw it, leading to he and his Gracie Films teaming with Sawka to develop it into a feature film.
That result is Icebox, which is having its world premiere Sunday in the Discovery section of the Toronto Film Festival. It lands smack in the middle of national outrage over the U.S. government’s controversial polices of separating families trying to cross the border (and the government’s seeming ineptness in reuniting children and their parents after the fact).
