In recent years, Netflix has made a lot of changes to its standard operating procedures, and one that is becoming increasingly part of its release plans is breaking up series into blocks. The world’s largest streaming service will release the second half of “Bridgerton” Season 3 in June looking to capitalize on the success of the first four episodes that were released last month. Also coming to the streaming giant this month will be the final season of fantasy drama series “Sweet Tooth,” the Glen Powell-led action comedy “The Hitman” and much more.
Netflix offers three different subscription options, on the low end is the Standard With Ads option for just $6.99 per month. However, if you prefer your streaming without commercial interruptions, you can opt for the Standard plan for $15.49 monthly or the Premium option for $22.99.

For those who remember, the game show Press Your Luck relied a lot on good timing. In a very roulette-like manner, contestants would watch squares on a board randomly be highlighted until they prompt it to stop in order to get the prize it halted on. An amazing episode in 1984 would have a contestant endlessly receiving good luck as he won big money every time he called, “Stop!” His fortune would be called into question as he would get accused of cheating on the show. Deadline has now shared the first look at Press Your Luck — a movie that will depict the events of that episode and all the controversy surrounding it, starring Paul Walter Hauser as the fateful contestant.
The synopsis, according to Deadline, reads,
“Set in 1984, the film follows Ohio resident Michael Larson, who steps on to the set of game show Press Your Luck harboring a secret:...

Paul Walter Hauser will lead the cast of Press Your Luck, a pic based on a true story of an unemployed ice-cream truck driver who won big on a 1980s game show.
Set in 1984, the film follows Ohio resident Michael Larson, who steps on to the set of game show ‘Press Your Luck’ harboring a secret: the key to endless amounts of money. But his winning streak gets threatened when the executives in the control room start to uncover his real motivations. You can see a first look image above.
Joining Hauser in an ensemble cast are Walton Goggins, David Strathairn, Emmy-nominated Maisie Williams, Haley Bennett, Shamier Anderson, David Rysdahl, Johnny Knoxville, Brian Geraghty, Patti Harrison and Shaunette Renée Wilson.
Samir Oliveros directs from a screenplay co-written with Maggie Briggs (Joyland). His company, Plenty Good (Chronicles Of A Wandering Saint) is the producer, and co-producer is Fabula (El Conde). The film is in post-production, with Protagonist Pictures handling international sales and CAA Media Finance representing North American rights.
“Samir has crafted a unique and stylish telling of the incredible true story of a down on his luck everyman gaming the system,” said Protagonist Pictures’ CEO, Dave Bishop. “We couldn’t be happier to be working with the very talented Samir and our friends at Fabula and Plenty Good.”

Vagabon wanted her new album, "Sorry I Haven't Called," to provide some relief for people after a few hard years. In order to do that, the artist, whose real name is Laetitia Tamko, decided to retreat from the world to write it.
"I have friends who live in Germany, and they told me about this house in the countryside of Germany. Being the dreamer that I am, I was like, 'Hmm, I can see myself in a house in the countryside of Germany. That sounds nice,'" she tells Popsugar. "For me to sit down and make an album - I've only made three albums, but it seems to always start with a little nugget of a dreamlike thing like that that can get my fires going."
The strategy worked, and the retreat ignited her creativity. The result is her most electric, expansive album yet.

Anyone who knows and loves a theater kid understands that they can be… a little much. To their credit, theater kids accept and embrace this reputation. Both the excessiveness of theater kids and their willingness to celebrate their extremities can be seen in the comedy Theater Camp, directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman. After winning over critics and earning a strong, if limited, return in theaters, Theater Camp has come to Hulu.
Based on a short film that Gordon and Lieberman made with Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, Theater Camp features a group of theater kids trying to save their camp from the founder’s jerky son, who wants to sell it off for something more profitable. Both self-aware and sincere, Theater Camp is a love letter to the over-the-top nerds who can sing every word of A Chorus Line and know that Andrew Rannells was in Street Sharks.

Note: This was reviewed at Sundance 2023.
Plot: The counselors at a theater camp try to save it from foreclosure when its beloved founder falls into a coma.
Review: Theater Camp comes from writer-director duo Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, with Gordon doubling as the lead alongside co-stars and co-writers Ben Platt and Noah Galvin. It’s an affectionate homage to an experience that obviously meant a lot to them, with the film opening with footage of a young Platt and Gordon acting their hearts out on stage as kids. If you’re a theater aficionado, this will no doubt be right up your alley, but it lacks the hilarity and hook to justify the rumoured $8 million Fox Searchlight spent on it at this year’s Sundance. It’s pleasant enough, but it’s not especially funny.

Searchlight Pictures’ Sundance-winning original comedy Theater Camp will take in an estimated $281,172 or $46.9k per theater at six locations opening weekend — the best limited opening for the distributor since Jojo Rabbit in the fall of 2019 ($349k in five locations). That’s after the A CinemaScore film on Sunday pulled ahead of Searchlight’s The Banshees Of Inisherin four-theater debut last year.
The number’s higher than Searchlight anticipated and the demographic mix a surprise at over 50% 25-34 year-olds,” said SVP Frank Rodriguez. “We didn’t expect that. It was a young audience. We got a lot of the older demos too. It’s a great spot to be in.”
AMC Lincoln Square and Alamo Brooklyn led the way, with Theater Camp at each booking the second-highest weekend gross behind Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. It took the top spot at the Angelika. LA locations are AMC Century City, the Grove and AMC Burbank.

Molly Gordon on Making Directorial Debut ‘Theater Camp’ and Reuniting With Ayo Edebiri on ‘The Bear’
This interview was conducted before SAG-AFTRA authorized a strike on July 13.
In 2019, Molly Gordon worked for three days on Ramy, the Hulu show about a man exploring his faith in New York City, and it changed her life. She was 23, in the nascent stages of a career she had been dreaming about since childhood. That year, she had roles in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and Gene Stupnitsky’s Good Boys, but her time on set with creator Ramy Youssef and executive producer Chris Storer served as what she describes as a “turning point” creatively.
This summer, she marked another professional milestone with the July 14 release of Theater Camp, her screenwriting and directorial debut, which she had been working on for years with longtime friends Ben Platt, Noah Galvin and Nick Lieberman. Gordon also stars in the mockumentary-style comedy about an eccentric group of artists working to save their summer camp for kids from financial ruin.

In many ways, Ben Platt is one of the most successful theater kids of our time, third only to Lin-Manuel Miranda and Taylor Swift (proof of this ignominious past can be found here and here). The prodigiously talented tenor grew up with fellow L.A.-based theater kid Molly Gordon and Bff Beanie Feldstein, attending a performing arts school and appearing in the ultimate theater kid role as Winthrop in a Hollywood Bowl production of The Music Man starring Kristin Chenoweth.

It’s good to know that Ben Platt and Molly Gordon’s failed childhood romance didn’t keep them from remaining life-long friends. The actors star in “Theater Camp,” a mockumentary about a performing arts summer camp co-directed by Gordon and Nick Lieberman. Said romance bloomed when Platt and Gordon were just 7 years old.
“I gave her this charm bracelet as I-guess-we’re-going-to-date-now,” Platt remembers during an appearance on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast. “She freaked out and told her mom, ‘I’m not ready,’ so I gave it to a different girl. Instead, I gave Molly a picture frame with a picture of me and Molly in it because I was like, ‘Here’s a friendship thing.’ Then she was devastated.”

When the initial idea that would become co-directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s feature directorial debut was first hatched, it was relatively small-scale. Literally: It was a short film. But after Gordon and Lieberman, alongside their creative partners Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, released the short “Theater Camp” online in 2020 to quick acclaim, the group knew they needed to make it bigger. Like, feature-sized bigger.
Three years later, the foursome premiered the feature version of “Theater Camp” at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it was met with strong reviews and a quick buy from Searchlight Pictures, which picked it up in “the high seven figures range,” with a theatrical release guaranteed.
Both the short and the feature hinge on a concept near and dear to all of their hearts. Cleverly conceived as a mockumentary, “Theater Camp” picks up as our unnamed (and unseen) filmmakers are just a day into production.

Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp suggests Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman as made by, and starring, theater brats. The largely improvised film also lovingly lampoons the more ridiculous and high-strung tendencies of overly serious community theater types, but does so with an earnest gusto that quickly becomes tiresome.
Guest’s 1996 film is populated by a murderer’s row of skilled improvisers whose work, even at its most over the top, feels effortless, with a lived-in quality that grounds the absurdity in a heightened yet recognizable reality. By contrast, Theater Camp’s comedy mostly comes across as forced and laborious, which makes watching the film, at times, feel like sitting through extended acting exercises where everyone is giving it 110% every take.

By contrast, Theater Camp’s comedy mostly comes across as forced and laborious, which makes watching the film, at times, feel like sitting through extended acting exercises where everyone is giving it 110% every take.

No two sketches on I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson are alike. That’s been the case through the first two seasons of this Netflix series and it remains true in season 3.
Sure, there are some recurring elements. In any given sketch, Robinson’s character is likely to raise his voice, break important social norms, and alienate the folks around him. But the real appeal of Robinson’s superb sketch comedy vehicle is how you’ll never guess the truly wild directions each joke will spin off to.
In season 3 alone: photos of cigars somehow lead into a ponytail past the anus, professional wrestlers’ penises explode, and 40 eggs end up equaling one egg. Like we did with season 2, we decided to rank every single sketch from I Think You Should Leave season 3’s five episodes (which feature 27 total sketches).
Enjoy and let us know what we got wrong!

Amid the chaos of “I Think You Should Leave” Season 3, a cartoon figure in a computer game shows you its asshole. This crudely animated drawing isn’t an object that typically has an anus — let alone eyes, arms, and legs — but there it is: a black squiggly mark inside a circle, pinched between two parted butt-cheeks. It’s quite a sight, to be honest. An unforeseeable punchline in a sketch with more than a few big laughs. But the reason I mention it isn’t to spoil the joke; it’s because Tim Robinson’s Netflix series is so full of figurative assholes — who transfix and entertain, who scream and rant, who endear themselves to us across their embarrassing escapades, but who are still assholes in the plainest sense — that it’s extra jarring to see a literal asshole staring you right in the face.
This is not a complaint.

When people look back at our present hell-time, if they look back at all, the one piece of art firmly representing what we all seemingly went through, together and alone, will be "I Think You Should Leave." Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin's sketch comedy series is the show of our current moment; a perfect encapsulation of what it's like to be trapped on a planet with increasingly odd weirdos who love to shout and never, ever admit they're wrong about anything. It's the living encapsulation of the "Watchmen" quote, "None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!"
We cannot escape the freaks, loudmouths, and downright lunatics that inhabit our world as they do the world of "I Think You Should Leave." All we can do is laugh at the absurdity and wait for a comet to hopefully come and kill us all.

Every couple of years, Tim Robinson seems to find himself in one cringy situation after another on his Netflix sketch series, I Think You Should Leave — and since two years have passed since season two, he has the trailer for season three on deck. In the clip, he road rages repeatedly (even in a drive-through … pretending to hold back when the object of his rage confronts him) and he convulses on a game show, among other mishaps.

Comedy is exceedingly difficult to pull off theatrically in the streaming age, but Searchlight Pictures is giving it the ol' college try this summer with the original comedy "Theater Camp." The good news? It looks absolutely hilarious and has been met with rave reviews coming out of film festivals such as Sundance (read our review here). Now, a trailer has arrived online, which will help give the moviegoing masses an idea of what to expect. If this is anything to go on, expect something endearing and funny.
The film hails from Nick Lieberman and Molly Gordon, who you may recognize from movies like "Booksmart" and "Good Boys." They are directing here, with Gordon also starring alongside Ben Platt ("Dear Evan Hansen"). While they may not be overly experienced feature directors, it looks like they didn't miss a beat in bringing this story to life. But enough talk, let's roll the footage.

In the tradition of “Best in Show” and “For Your Consideration” but with the vibes of “Wet Hot American Summer,” here comes the new comedy “Theater Camp.” The feature, which premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Searchlight Pictures soon after, will debut in theaters this summer.
Here’s the logline:
Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in the original comedy Theater Camp as Amos and Rebecca-Diane – lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.
In addition to Platt, Gordon, Galvin, and Tatro, the film also stars “The Bear” actress Ayo Edebiri, Patti Harrison, and Amy Sedaris.

"These people are really weird." Searchlight Pictures has revealed their fun first official trailer for the indie comedy Theater Camp, a mockumentary in the same vein as Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show. This first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was a massive hit, one of the best of the fest, I loved it and raved about it in my own review as well. The acclaimed faux documentary film follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York, as they band together with the beloved founder's bro-y son to keep the camp afloat, when she falls into a coma right before the summer session is set to begin. They attempt to put on a masterpiece to save their theater camp known as "AdirondACTS". The ensemble cast of this comedy includes Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Jimmy Tatro, Patti Harrison,...

Theater Camp comes with the audience advisory that it contains strobe effects and may potentially trigger seizures. And in a unique twist, this humorous mockumentary from first-time feature film directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman incorporates that warning into the plot.
AdirondACTS theater camp founder Joan (Amy Sedaris) suffers a seizure from the strobe light in the camp’s production of Bye Bye Birdie. Joan lapses into a coma at the worst possible time for the struggling upstate New York theater camp. It’s also horrible timing for the documentary crew since Joan was supposed to be the focus of the film and her coma occurs on the first day of shooting.
Money is a major issue and after Joan is forced to make an unexpected exit from camp, her son, Troy (Jimmy Tatro), is put in charge.

Set in a sleepaway stage-training program for shy kids and incorrigible natural hams, where attendees get intensive instruction from Broadway burnouts, “Theater Camp” is that rare parody that has viewers laughing from the opening scene till the credits roll. I’m talking about the 18-minute short film that Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Nick Lieberman and Ben Platt uploaded to YouTube a month or so into the pandemic, earning a cult following among musical theater geeks and those who survived comparable drama camps in upstate New York.
The feature version is more of the same, minus the laughs.

One thing Theater Camp could never be accused of is not knowing its audience.
Hatched by co-directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman and their fellow screenwriters Noah Galvin and Ben Platt out of a string of sketches, an unreleased web series and an improvised short, this larkish comedy is laser-targeted for a highly specific niche. Musical theater geeks, aspiring performers and eccentric drama educators will find countless sweet-spot insider jokes in a film that conveys the love of its creative team for the milieu at every turn. For the uninitiated, its charms are more likely to register in fits and starts.
The project takes as its model the Christopher Guest improv comedy, which is both a blessing and a curse since the under-baked mockumentary frame is rickety and seems to be forgotten for large chunks at a time. Another drawback is the considerable overlap with two sharper, more disciplined films,...

For Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, and much of the cast of “Theater Camp,” their Sundance comedy was years of friendship in the making.
“The origins truly began when Ben and I met each other when we were three. We pitched it immediately,” co-director, co-writer and star Molly Gordon joked during a discussion with TheWrap’s Executive Editor Adam Chitwood.
Gordon, co-director Nick Lieberman, writer-stars Noah Galvin and Ben Platt, and cast members Patti Harrison, Jimmy Tatro, and Owen Thiele stopped by TheWrap’s Portrait and Video Studio at The Music Lodge the day of “Theater Camp”s premiere.

The Sundance Film Festival raised the curtain on Theater Camp Saturday afternoon, presenting the world premiere of the feel-good mockumentary made by four best friends, Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman.
The audience inside Park City’s Eccles Theatre gifted the showing with a generous and heartfelt standing ovation and saved another for the surprise musical performance that followed the final credits, a rarity for a fest screening. The brief musical ditty featured eight young actors belting out a medley of tunes written for the movie’s musical finale titled Joan, Still. When they had taken their final bow, the crowd cheered and applauded like one would for a Broadway performance.

Ben Platt has nothing but raves for Paul Mescal. The two actors are joining forces for Richard Linklater’s “Merrily We Roll Along,” an adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical that’s being filmed over the course of two decades. Variety reported earlier in January that Mescal had replaced Blake Jenner in the lead role of Broadway composer Franklin Shepard. Platt said at the Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance that working with Mescal is already “wonderful.”
Platt is starring in the musical as Franklin’s creative partner and lyricist Charley, while Beanie Feldstein is taking on the role of their good friend and theater critic, Mary. The story tracks the trio’s disintegrating friendship as Franklin abandons Charley and Mary to become a successful Hollywood film producer. The story is told in reverse chronological order over 20 years, so Linklater and his actors are shooting parts...

It turns out that when you play a chef on TV, the people in your real life are quick to come at you with cooking requests.
“My mom is a really, really incredible cook,” says Ayo Edebiri, who plays eager young sous chef Sydney on The Bear. “Previous holidays or whatever, I’ve always been like, ‘Let me in, I want to cook, I want to make something,’ and she’s been like, ‘No.’ And now she’s like, ‘Ayo, when are you making something? What are you bringing? When are you going to cook for me?’ I’m like, ‘Ok, so this is what it took.’ ”
And as the FX/Hulu series — which follows a top fine-dining chef (played by Jeremy Allen White) who comes home to run his family’s Chicago sandwich shop after the death of his brother — became the smash hit of the summer,...
