Jordan Peele apparently opted not to take up an offer to join the MCU, and it turns out it was X-Men that was put before him.
There was a story floating around earlier this week that claimed Jordan Peele had been in discussions with Marvel Studios about directing one of its upcoming projects. However, at that point we were missing the juiciest detail of all, that being the project in question.
Even though the offer was reportedly declined by Peele, the story led to plenty of speculation regarding which project the Get Out filmmaker had been offered, with Marvel’s troubled Blade being a popular choice, even though that production already has a director (or at least we think it does), Yann Demange.
A fresh story has now surfaced to corroborate the original story, claiming that Peele met with Marvel – although this story adds that “it was a long time...

Shiloh Fernandez was among the actors considered for the role of Edward Cullen. According to Catherine Hardwicke, we wanted someone who had just a little bit of the bad boy in him, and Fernandez seemed to fit that description. However, he eventually conceded that he wasn’t right for the part and that audition nerves affected his chemistry with Kristen Stewart. Meanwhile, Ben Barnes, known for his roles in The Chronicles of Narnia series, was also on the shortlist for Edward. His scheduling conflicts with Narnia were a primary reason audiences never saw him as the brooding vampire. Barnes once admitted,...

Standing tall as one of the most well-decorated filmmakers of recent times and the director of the highest-grossing movie ever by a female director, Greta Gerwig put her best foot forward with Barbie. The mega-movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, as its leads, rode on the creative vision of the 40-year-old as it brought to life Mattel’s doll in a story that revolved around breaking stereotypes and the boundaries between fictional and real universes.

Though Elliott first dismisses the idea of training her, an unexpected bond blossoms between them, breaking through the boundaries of boxing and exploring the complexities of respect, love, family, and personal convictions. It culminates in a final showdown that alters Toni’s destiny profoundly.
Years later, Toni, now a pioneering female boxing manager, guides Payne (Jordan E. Cooper) to his first championship fight, drawing upon Elliott’s wisdom. On this very night, Toni might not only lose a fight, but also herself,...

Marvel Studios has long been celebrated for its unparalleled ability to craft captivating narratives, shrouded in secrecy and brimming with unexpected twists. Yet, it seems to have no idea about its upcoming Agatha. Marking the return of Kathryn Hahn as the titular witch, the series has yet again gotten a name change.

While fans are certainly confused, believing that might be a marketing stint, even the Chief Brand Officer of Disney’s Marketing unit is confused after Marvel tweeted a hilarious name change for the upcoming show. I don’t know if Marvel thinks they are being cute or creative, but the constant announcements about the “name changes” to the upcoming Agatha Harkness Marvel show on Disney+ are getting old. Frankly, it’s been so long that I don’t know if people even care that much anymore.
**Edit** Well it’s called “Agatha All Along” nowaccording to Disney’s upfront today. My husband joked that would be the title for a while now.
In 2021, Marvel revealed that the show would be called “Agatha: House of Harkness.” Then, in 2022, the name was changed to “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” and a few months later, it was announced to be “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.” Today, Marvel announced yet another title, “Agatha: The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe.” Then, they deleted it.
Most fans think the show will just be called “Agatha” and these are the episode titles, which sounds very probable.

With streaming juggernaut Netflix owning the rights to the Narnia franchise, plans are in place to bring it to the big and small screens.
C. S. Lewis' sprawling fantasy novel series The Chronicles of Narnia has delighted fans for decades since they were first published in the 1950s.
Despite Lewis' noted objections to adapting The Chronicles Narnia for visual mediums there have indeed been a variety of attempts to turn the books into television series and films.

Five years after its finale, Game of Thrones is still considered the most groundbreaking fantasy series of our time, and only another brainchild of HBO, a series based on the Harry Potter universe, can compete with GoT for this title, but it is still in the early stages of development.

Greta Gerwig might be honouring her two-film commitment to Netflix’s planned Narnia franchise in one big lump.
Before Barbie became the phenomenon that it did last summer, Greta Gerwig had already agreed her next move: a two-film deal with Netflix to kick off the streaming platform’s latest attempt to launch a big splashy franchise, this time with a series of adaptations of Cs Lewis’ beloved Narnia books.
News of Gerwig’s deal with Netflix first emerged towards the end of 2022, a good half a year before Barbie would release to huge acclaim and transform her from a respected director of impressive indie breakouts (Ladybird) and charming literary adaptations (Little Women) into a coveted studio director of blockbuster films with mass market appeal.
To be fair to Netflix, though, the folks there managed to tie Gerwig up before the success of Barbie and as such, they find themselves with...

C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is one of the most beloved children’s series and one of the best-known fantasy works in the history of literature. The stories of the Pevensie family and their friends and allies in the fictional world of Narnia are spread through seven books, starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950) and ending with The Last Battle (1956). The series is Lewis’ best-known work even today and while most people have been acquainted with it through the books, there are some who snuck into the world of Narnia via the film adaptations from several years ago.
Three movies were adapted back then and while there were plans to adapt The Silver Chair as well, these failed and in 2018, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the series in movie and television series format. As things stand now, the first...

Back in 2008, a music video landed on YouTube — then still largely in its infancy and mostly dominated by amateur video footage — and caused a bit of a stir, amassing a cult following and 1 million views. More than 15 years on, the video has morphed — extremely slowly — into a full-length feature film.
Chris Dane Owens’ upbeat love song “Shine on Me” was already a catchy slice of rock with some heavy ’80s inspirations. But it was the epic accompanying video — which he made for $70,000, no small sum in today’s music video world — that proved to be the real hit, largely for squeezing into its four minutes practically every clichéd trope and inspiration from popular swords-and-sorcery fantasy entertainment. “The Princess Bride” features prominently, but then there are elements of “Xena,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Dungeons and Dragons” and many, many more.

When mother-daughter showrunners Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke began working on “The Way Home” with creator Marly Reed, they didn’t intentionally set their sites on the world of “Alice in Wonderland.” Instead, it came completely natural.
“As we started looking at this show and the concept, it became so much clearer to us how oddly echoing it all was to the book, and we sort of thought well, if it’s there, let’s use it. It’s a story about a girl that literally falls down the rabbit hole into a whole other world and is trying to make sense of what she’s seeing and of her adventures there,” Alexandra tells Variety. With seamless comparisons, they began bringing physical similarities and themes from the 1865 novel into Season 1.

Don’t hold your breath for Kristen Stewart to join the MCU…unless Greta Gerwig is directing, that is.
Stewart, who is set to make her own feature directorial debut with the adaptation of “The Chronology of Water,” revealed during the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast that starring in a Marvel movie “sounds like a fucking nightmare” at this point in her career.
“I will likely never do a Marvel movie. That sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually,” Stewart said.
However, there is one caveat that could get Stewart to don a cape if need be: “If Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it,” the “Love Lies Bleeding” star said.
Stewart added that “big movies” such as Marvel installments tend thwart auteurs’ visions, hence her steering clear.

Greta Gerwig tells me there’s “no resistance” from her about the possibility of Barbie 2.
The challenge for her she says, is how to tackle a follow-up movie. Initially, the filmmaker wasn’t “feeling” the idea of a sequel, but now she’s warm to such a situation. “I’m not dismissing it, I want to do it,” she says, but there’s a heck of a lot to discuss first with Mattel, Margot Robbie, Warner Bros Discovery, producer David Heyman and all of her creative collaborators.

Also, there’s rather a lot on her plate as she puts the architecture in place to shoot Narnia for Netflix, and Gerwig revealed that she’ll return to London to soon resume the very early stages of pre-production in the UK.

For audiences of a certain age, it might be amusing, or maybe even disappointing, when, early in “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” the eponymous hero skins a raccoon to fashion a bandage for a serious leg wound, rather than to make a hat of the sort famously worn by Fess Parker when he played the character in enduringly popular Disney miniseries and movie spin-offs. Maybe this is writer-director Derek Estlin Purvis’ way of winking at the audience. Or, more likely, it’s his way of letting us know from the get-go that this will not be your father’s King of the Wild Frontier.
William Moseley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) is effectively earnest as the legendary frontiersman in Purvis’ leisurely paced but sporadically exciting historical drama, which focuses on the period when Crockett, then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee, became an outspoken critic of...

Greta Gerwig finally commented on the “Barbie” Oscar snubs heard around the world, telling Time magazine that it’s wonderful she’s still nominated for an Academy Award despite missing out on a best director nomination. Gerwig is nominated for adapted screenplay thanks to “Barbie.” Controversy has surrounded the 2024 Oscar noms ever since Gerwig was snubbed for best director and Margot Robbie was snubbed for best actress. Robbie is also still Oscar nominated this year for best picture as one of the “Barbie” producers.
“Of course I wanted it for Margot,” Gerwig told Time. “But I’m just happy we all get to be there together. A friend’s mom said to me, ‘I can’t believe you didn’t get nominated.’ I said, ‘But I did. I got an Oscar nomination.’ She was like, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful for you!’ I was like, ‘I know!’”

Exclusive: UK Director Ben Gregor says his upcoming adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree will tap into children’s post-pandemic anxiety and retreat into screens as it celebrates the joy of being outdoors in nature, in a subtext that will chime with parents worldwide.
Wonka and Paddington 2 actor and writer Simon Farnaby’s screenplay transposes Blyton’s 1943 classic – about the adventures of three children who discover a magic tree in an enchanted wood – to modern Britain.
The new version will revive the tree’s ragbag collection of characters such as Moonface, Saucepan Man, Dame Washalot, Silky, Angry Pixie and Mister Watzisname as well as the lands at the top of the tree including the Land of Goodies and the Land of Birthdays.
For its contemporary reboot, the three protagonists are uprooted from their hi-tech home in an ultra-modern London Nine Elms-Battersea Power Station-style development to a ramshackle...

C.S. Lewis’ Narnia books and The Beatles’ songs are two of post-war England’s most valuable cultural exports. Paul McCartney said one of The Beatles’ songs is about a place that John Lennon felt was similar to Narnia. John did an incredible job of translating his feelings into music.
Paul McCartney said 1 Beatles song was inspired by a ‘wild garden’
In the 1997 book Paul McCartney: Many Years From Now, Paul discussed Strawberry Field, the orphanage that inspired The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever.” “I’ve seen Strawberry Fields described as a dull, grimy place next door to him that John imagined to be a beautiful place, but in the summer it wasn’t dull and grimy at all: it was a secret garden,” Paul recalled.
“John’s memory of it wasn’t to do with the fact that it was a Salvation Army home; that was up at the house,...

I don’t know if Dark Horse is actually trying to adapt every last bit of short Neil Gaiman into comics form. He’s written a lot of stuff, and much of it wouldn’t adapt well. But it does feel like they’re trying, at least, with a long sequence of individual graphic novels and a few omnibuses stretching back more than a decade.
The grandly titled “Neil Gaiman Library” has mostly been stories that can turn into reasonable-length books. I’ve seen a bunch of them: A Study in Emerald ; Only the End of the World Again ; Chivalry ; Snow, Glass, Apples ; and Troll Bridge . But not all Gaiman stories can be fit into that length, no matter how hard Procrustes works.
So in 2019 we got The Problem of Susan and Other Stories , which includes adaptations of the title story, another short story, and two poems. Presumably, with this as a model,...

Special effects supervisor Neil Corbould scored a rare hat trick on Tuesday, grabbing three VFX Oscar nominations, for his work on Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi thriller The Creator, Ridley Scott’s period epic Napoleon and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
The veteran SFX supervisor previously won Academy Awards for Gravity and Scott’s Gladiator. This year’s noms are the sixth, seventh and eighth in his career.
He wasn’t the only veteran to score multiple Oscar nominations this season. His fellow nominee, Simone Coco, a VFX supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic, also scored nominations for Dead Reckoning and Napoleon. These are Coco’s first and second nominations.
Four-time Oscar winner Richard King received a pair of sound nominations, as supervising sound editor and designer of both Christopher Nolan’s J. Robert Oppenheimer biopic Oppenheimer and Bradley Cooper Leonard Bernstein movie Maestro. These are his seventh and eighth Academy Award nominations.

Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) and C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode) debate their opposing views on religion verses reason on the verge of World War II, in Freud’S Last Session.
Freud’S Last Session is based on the stage play of the same name, in which the now-elderly famous Dr. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, invites the much younger professor C. S. Lewis, a rising Oxford don who will write the Narnia book series, into his home in London, to which the Jewish doctor fled ahead of Hitler’s invading troops from his native Vienna. On the brink of Britain’s entry into WW II, these two intellectual giants meet for the first time and discuss a range of philosophical topics, including the existence...

Greta Gerwig is currently on her victory lap during awards season. Sure, there’s still plenty of discussion about “Barbie” taking home a ton of awards, including Oscars, but you can just see the filmmaker enjoying every aspect of talking about her runaway hit that broke records and is the highest-grossing film of 2023. But that doesn’t mean the filmmaker isn’t looking ahead. What lies ahead for Gerwig is perhaps the biggest challenge of her career— “The Chronicles of Narnia.” And she understands the weight of that project.

Greta Gerwig may be coming off a record-breaking year with box office smash Barbie but the screenwriter and director has revealed she is feeling intimidated by her next project, the adaptation for Netflix of C.S. Lewis children’s classic The Chronicles Of Narnia.
“I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today program. “I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”
“As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly… it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman.

Ridley Scott has found the god of music for his upcoming ‘Gladiator’ sequel, reports ‘Variety’.
Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to compose the score for the hotly anticipated Paramount feature, which is due to be out on November 22, more than 24 years after the Oscar-winning original starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.
The film, adds ‘Variety’, marks the seventh collaboration between Scott and Gregson-Williams. The composer has penned the scores for ‘The Martian’, ‘Prometheus’, ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, ‘The Last Duel’ and ‘House of Gucci’.
Other credits for Gregson-Williams include ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’, ‘The Meg’, ‘Mulan’, ‘The Gilded Age’, ‘The Equalizer’, ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and all three ‘Shrek’ films.

Two Indian films Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire and Dunki buoyed the North American box office on a relatively quiet holiday weekend as Searchlight Pictures’ All Of Us Strangers had a solid per-screen openings and Poor Things a nice expansion.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig doesn’t not say there might be a Ken spin-off movie… But she doesn’t not say there won’t be one, either. Hope that’s clear.
He might just be Ken, but Ryan Gosling's smooth-groined man-child captured the hearts (and wallets) of the world when Greta Gerwig's Barbie triple-somersaulted to box office success earlier this year. There’s even a risk that Gosling’s performance rather overshadowed the film’s real star (Margot Robbie deserves much more credit than she’s been getting for pulling off arguably the more difficult part with aplomb), but we’ll put that soapbox away for another time.
Because, as is often the case with $1.4bn original movies, sequel and spin-off talk has been following Barbie around for a while. Though Robbie has previously said a straight-up Barbie 2 was unlikely people just keep asking Greta Gerwig if there might...

Anime has catapulted in popularity the past couple of decades, with movies big and small all adding Easter eggs and references to the biggest animated shows out of Japan. We've also seen streamers like Netflix invest heavily in anime, collaborating with anime studios to produce animated adaptations of known franchises like "The Witcher" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." Even "Star Wars" has gotten into the anime game with "Star Wars: Visions."
The rise in popularity of anime in the West has also happened current with the rise of the "isekai" genre. This has become one of the biggest and most prominent genres within anime in the last 10 years. The isekai genre (literally "another world") involves a protagonist getting transported to a fantasy world where they gain big magical powers and face dangerous creatures. Aardman’s flock of clay chickens is back. And so is their composer.
23 years after Chicken Run became a stop-motion smash hit, Ginger, Rocky, Babs, Mac and the rest of the coop are returning for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, landing on Netflix on Dec 15. If the music sounds similar, it’s because Harry Gregson-Williams, who composed the original score alongside John Powell, has also returned.

The animated adaptations of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings from the 1970s and 1980s have a bit of a bad reputation these days, but these are not entirely deserved. In particular, Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass’ 1977 TV movie of The Hobbit, with a screenplay by Romeo Miller, gets a lot of things right that Peter Jackson’s three-part live-action film adaptation did not.
The most obvious advantage that the animated version has over the live-action films is its length. The fact that the live-action movies are too long is pretty well-established, but by way of a reminder, the book of The Hobbit is about 300 pages long, with slight variations in each edition. Other books of similar length that have been adapted into films include Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Emma Donoghue’s Room, John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Tilda Swinton famously cut her acting teeth on the experimental films of late director Derek Jarman such as Caravaggio and The Garden as well as life-long friend Joanna Hogg’s debut short Caprice and Sally Potter’s Orlando.
Nearly 50 years later, she has continued to work with Hogg as well as in the experimental cinema arena, finding a new Jarman-esque kindred spirit in Thai artist and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Speaking in an in-conversation event at the Marrakech Film Festival on Monday, the actress revealed how some of the big commercial studio pictures she has worked on across her career have felt personally more experimental to her than her avant-garde work.
“I’ve been really fortunate to have some adventures in worlds of filmmaking that I never thought I would be able to go into,” she said.
“When Derek died [in 1994], I was a bit high and dry… slowly… invitations came...
