Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise is reportedly fading into the background as its director may have found a much more inspiring project to put his focus on at the moment.
Snyder’s recent revelations were pretty clear about his determined intention to expand his epic space opera franchise’s universe by yet another bunch of sequels, though now the director’s other flick is getting more attention and thus has more chances to receive updates than the failed film series.
According to Variety reports, Snyder’s 2006 epic historical action movie 300 is about to get a prequel series, and Snyder is in talks regarding his return to the story as director and executive producer.
No plot details of the future show have been revealed so far, yet it’s pretty clear that the upcoming installment will take viewers back to earlier times before Gerard Butler’s Leonidas and his...

There are a few household names in comics. Frank Miller is one of those names. Through his grim film-noirish comic book stories using characters like Batman and Daredevil and original works like Sin City and 300, Miller has etched his way into the hearts and minds of comic book fans for decades.

The documentary by Silenn Thomas, CEO of the artist’s production company Frank Miller Ink, the film explores Miller’s incredibly successful multimedia career. And the dark side, too.

There’s no mystery why Zack Snyder is considered one of the most polarizing directors in Hollywood. His movies often are the subjects of online debates because of his interpretation of characters and execution of scenes. Indeed, he’s quite a divisive filmmaker.
Gerard Butler in 300 / Warner Bros.
One of his most popular works, 300, is reportedly getting a small-screen treatment, and this could be an alarming news unbeknownst to him. Snyder is in talks to helm a prequel series to his 2006 historical epic which doesn’t already look good given the streak of flopped projects he’s been involved with.
Zack Snyder Is Rumored To Helm 300 TV Series Prequel
In a report from Variety, the outlet claims “a ‘300’ TV series adaptation is in early development at Warner Bros. Television” which is revealed to be a prequel to the 2006 movie. Plot and cast details remain under wraps.

Zack Snyder’s 300 told a fictionalized version of the Battle of Thermopylae and saw Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas leading 300 Spartans into battle against an army of about 300,000 soldiers. The film is based on the namesake limited comic book series created by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. 300 had its own ups and downs while it received mixed reviews from critics and a few awards, it also was also criticized for its historical inaccuracies.

Gerard Butler’s Leonidas led an army of 300 soldiers to face off against the 300,000 soldiers of the Persian God-King Xerxes in Zack Snyder’s 300. The David and Goliath story required actors to get ripped and look perfect in their half-naked attires. However, Warner Bros. exec Alan Horn wasn’t exactly convinced with Butler for the role after working with him on The Phantom of the Opera.

However, when Butler came to convince him, Horn decided to give him the role as per Snyder’s wish upon one condition. He knew from their earlier collaboration that Butler was a heavy smoker and he wanted the actor to quit smoking to land the part.

Zack Snyder's 2006 film "300," based on the comic book by Frank Miller, tells a hyper-stylized and not-the-least-bit-historically-accurate version of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) wherein 300 Spartan soldiers managed to fend off anywhere from 120,000 to 300,000 soldiers of the Persian Empire for three full days. Both Miller's book and Snyder's film present the Spartans as teeth-gashing, testosterone-spitting, Spam-scented beefcake slabs comprised of nothing but pectoral muscles, testicles, and homophobia. They speak in "Join the Marines" recruiting slogans and disparage anything that's not at least 4000% more masculine than a two-ton bag of Tom Jones' chest hair.
Speaking of chest hair, none of the Spartans have any, happy to parade around their cartoonishly cut physiques as if they all possess a severe shirt allergy. Leading the charge is King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), a man who cannot help but add multiple exclamation marks after every sentence he speaks.

Netflix Animation held its first slate preview event June 6 at the Tudum in L.A., as a lead-up to the Annecy Animation Festival (June 9-15), where it will premiere Shannon Tindle’s “Ultraman: Rising” (streaming June 14) and tout some of its upcoming works in 2024 and 2025.
Hosted by Christopher Sean (the voice star of “Ultraman: Rising”), attendees were treated to exclusive presentations, previews, and special announcements. The biggest announcement was the full title of Aardman’s next stop-motion feature, “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” which will have an Oscar-qualifying run this winter before streaming in 2025.
Directed by franchise creator Nick Park and creative director Merlin Crossingham, who offered a pre-recorded introduction, “Vengeance Most Fowl” marks the return of the villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw, from the Oscar-winning short “The Wrong Trousers.” The film is a cautionary tale of high-tech gone wrong involving an out-of-control “smart gnome” with a mind of its own.

Nobody really saw it coming, but Zack Snyder’s film is once again holding a place in Netflix’s US top, and it’s neither of his Rebel Moon flops.
Snyder’s 300: Rise of an Empire is suddenly one of the most-watched movies on the platform this week and, according to data provided by FlixPatrol, the flick has climbed to the number two position surpassed only by Netflix’s new surprising arrival Godzilla Minus One.
Released in 2014 as a sequel of sorts to 300, Snyder’s 2006 historical movie, 300: Rise of an Empire follows Greek general Themistocles of Athens, portrayed by Sullivan Stapleton, who, alongside his army, is set to strike back against the invasion of Persian forces.
The already ruthless approaching battle gets even more complicated when the Persian army finds support from the God-King Xerxes of Persia and the leader of the Persian navy Artemisia.

Fans lauded Zack Snyder’s 2007 historical epic film 300, but despite it being a masterpiece to many, one fan managed to point out a massive plot hole that’s been there yet no one has talked about. Was it really a plot hole, or was it one of the director’s deliberate ways to exhibit the real intention of the movie?

Ready your breakfast and eat hardy, for tonight we dine on 300 news! For anyone who's long hoped for more stories in the world of the Spartans (with lashings of comic book style), there's a promising update. According to Variety, a TV adaptation of the Zack Snyder historical epic – itself an adaptation of the legendary Frank Miller's graphic novel – is in early development at Warner Bros. Television. And what's more, Snyder – who directed and co-wrote the 2006 film – is in talks to helm the project.
In terms of plot details for the series, news is there is no news – Wbtv is keeping its cards close to their chest at present. But early word is that the series will serve as a prequel of some sort to the hyper-stylised film, which recounted the tale of how fearless leader Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his army of 300 Spartans held back thousands (possibly millions) of...

We have already written about Zack Snyder here on Fiction Horizon, and the overall conclusion, however you look at it, is that he is a divisive figure in the industry, even among fans. But, if there is one thing that fans agree about related to Zack Snyder is that his movie 300 was a masterpiece. Although the critics gave it mixed reviews, the fans almost unanimously love 300, and it is a movie that has withstood the test of time, remaining a popular work among fans of comic book adaptations. It has been years since we last explored that universe, but it seems that Warner Bros. is looking at all possible angles with its assets, so we can confirm that a 300 prequel television series is currently being developed at Warner Bros.

Earlier this week, social media scooper @MyTimeToShineH claimed that a 300 TV series is in development. Now, the news has been confirmed by Variety, with the trade explaining that it's still in the "early" stages right now.
It sounds like Warner Bros. Television is still figuring out the creative direction of the show as no writer or platform is currently attached (Max is surely the most likely destination). However, the plan is for this to be a prequel to the 2006 movie directed by Zack Snyder.
Talking of the Man of Steel and Rebel Moon filmmaker, Snyder is said to be in talks to direct and executive produce the 300 prequel, marking his first return to the world of comic books since 2021's Justice League Snyder Cut.

Following the revelation that James Gunn & Peter Safran would be leading the Dceu in a completely new direction, a certain fan base persevered until the very end and held onto a glimmer of hope for a franchise that had already vanished. Yeah, we are referring to the DC fans who have taken to social media to unite behind the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. And it was all due to Warner Studios’ extreme mishandling of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, which led to its total destruction.

In 2006, you could scarcely go a day without someone shouting, “This is Sparta!” in your face. Writer, director, and producer Zack Snyder has become forever entwined with comic book cinema, with many devoted fans knowing him best for his work with the DC universe, but once upon a time he directed a very different kind of comic book movie. Nearly 20 years ago, back in 2006, a little movie called "300" blew everyone's minds and kicked itself into the pop culture consciousness, teaching us all about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 300 Spartans held off a massive Persian army under King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Sure, it wasn't super historically accurate because it was based on the graphic novel by "Sin City" artist and scribe Frank Miller (with colors by Lynn Varley), but it was impossibly cool. It inspired all kinds of tributes and spoofs and even a spin-off film, "300: Rise of an Empire," which showed the naval side of the battle,...

TV takes on familiar IP isn’t new these days, although the quality of those series runs the gamut. For every show like Prime Video‘s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “Dead Ringers,” there are others, like Paramount+‘s “Sexy Beast,” that are utterly forgettable. In short, IP-turned-tv varies in quality, but that’s not stopping Warner Bros. from remaking one of Zack Snyder‘s biggest films into series form.

Exact plot details are still being worked out, but sources say that the show would serve as a prequel to the 2006 film. No writer or platform is currently attached to the project.
Deals are still being negotiated, but Zack Snyder, who directed and co-wrote “300,” is in talks to direct and executive produce the series. Deborah Snyder, who executive produced “300,” would also return as an executive producer under her and Zack’s Stone Quarry production banner, with Stone Quarry’s Wesley Coller also on board. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann — all of whom were producers on the film — are likewise in talks to return.
Reps for Wbtv declined to comment.

We've been hearing whispers about a potential small-screen 300 spin-off for years, and it seems a series may finally be moving forward - but it more than likely will not be based on Frank Miller's graphic novel or the movie adaptations that followed.
According to scooper Mttsh, a "300 TV series is officially in development."
We don't have any more to go on for now, but THR recently reported that Zack Snyder, who helmed the 2006 movie, had regained the rights to Blood and Ashes, which was originally pitched to Warner Bros. as a follow-up to 300 and its sequel, Rise of an Empire.
The story, which Snyder began writing while working on Army of the Dead, moves away from the Spartans to focus on the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second in command, Haphaestion.
“We got the rights back so we can make if we want it,” Snyder told the trade in a 2023 interview.

That's what critic Rita Kempley wrote for the Washington Post in a particularly scathing review of Roland Emmerich's 1998 movie, "Godzilla." It was the first attempt by Hollywood to bring the classic monster to life in America, and it was a spectacular failure. That's what Warner Bros., Legendary, and director Gareth Edwards were working against while crafting 2014's "Godzilla." Skepticism was built in. They had to prove that a film within this franchise made outside of Japan could work.
They did that and then some.

When Bridgerton first broke through, it felt subversive. As sex has disappeared from film, Bridgerton featured some of the most intimate and erotic sequences on television. Placing this eroticism in a period drama gave the series a unique link. It immediately felt closer to Weathering Heights or Dangerous Liaisons. Now, after two seasons and a spin-off, the novelty has partially worn off. However, Season 3 of Bridgerton does not falter due to complacency. Rather, Shondaland and the showrunners overload the season. While Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton finally take the spotlight, their story sags under the weight of carrying more than a half-dozen subplots.

After performing epically in quite a few romantic comedies until 2010 and winning the hearts of fangirls worldwide, Gerard Butler seems to have switched lanes permanently into the action genre. Well, he is acing it in that too, considering how the 54-year-old actor is once again reportedly all set to return to the big screens with Empire State, his next major action-thriller project.

But while he is still performing as brilliantly as ever in this respective genre, viewers can’t help but notice a similar pattern in a lot of Butler’s movies of the action/thriller/adventure themes. That being said, after hearing reports of this very upcoming action movie of his, a lot of fans seem to know already what to expect to see from it!

Gerard Butler and Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast could head to the Big Apple as Butler is in talks to join the filmmaker for the comedic action-thriller Empire State. The upcoming project finds Butler and Gudegast re-teaming after joining forces for 2018’s Den of Thieves, Plane, and London Has Fallen.

Zack Snyder is one of the most prolific filmmakers of today’s age. Having created epics like 300, Army of the Dead, Justice League, and more, the director is known best for creating action-packed, grim tales of adventure that are often characterized by intricate details. Whether it is his independent features or the Snyderverse, Snyder’s movies are a true treat to audiences who love bold and gritty themes.

While Snyder’s imagination and ability to craft fictional worlds are quite impressive, the director’s Snyderverse shares unmistakable similarities with Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings franchise. The two different worlds have several distinct connections that are quite baffling.

Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon is now streaming in full on Netflix, with last year’s Part One: A Child of Fire followed by this year’s Part Two: The Scargiver.
But the Rebel Moon saga is far from over, because Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cuts of both movies are coming to Netflix. And they’re said to each be around One Hour Longer.
Of particular note, the Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts will be rated “R,” promising the bloody violence that wasn’t found in the PG-13 versions of the two movies currently on Netflix.
For starters, Rebel Moon – Part One: Director’s Cut has been rated “R” for…
“Brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.”
We don’t yet have a release date for these Director’s Cuts. Stay tuned.

Zack Snyder may be very well-known for directing huge blockbusters like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or the Rebel Moon franchise, but all these big-budget hits leave quite a lot to be desired when it comes to their critical reviews.
Ever since he directed an action horror Dawn of the Dead back in 2004, Snyder has never got to do better with critics and, what’s even worse, his films since then seem to have adopted some kind of weird trend as the rating gets lower with every new release.
Though the problem may not lie in Snyder’s directorial style, a bizarre coincidence regarding his filmography raises a thought whether he’s just a bad writer and that’s it.
Zack Snyder Should Just Stick to Directing

One of the most popular directors in the world, Zack Snyder is known for titles like “300”, “Watchmen”, and “Justice League”. His films revel in slow-motion action sequences, grand operatic themes, and a dark, brooding aesthetic.

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.
Dawn of the Dead is now available for streaming on Starz.

The world that Zack Snyder comes from is stuffed with lore-driven drama, mature sensibilities, and dark imagination. His work reflects those traits in abundance despite there being enough opportunities to go so completely campy in his artistic style that it would threaten even David Cronenberg’s reputation in the field. But Snyder doesn’t take the bait. He would rather be the master of dramatic storytelling that presents itself as an epic Greek tragedy than serve up a generic film that gets lost among the stampede of a thousand other films coming off of Hollywood’s factory lineup.

Reminiscing the work that went into 300, Zack Snyder recalled convincing Warner Bros. to greenlight the project after long-drawn hesitation. Using clever tricks to persuade WB, Snyder’s methods eventually made their way into Gerard Butler’s movie and turned it into a classic.
Warner Bros. Was Initially Hesitant to Greenlight 300
It’s been more than a decade since Zack Snyder released Gerard Butler’s 300 in 2006. Yet, the movie somehow feels iconic and timeless, which later shaped the cinematic landscape following its release.

1. Always hire Anthony Hopkins to deliver exposition. The man is an Oscar-winner, he’s played everybody from Hamlet to Hannibal Lecter, he’s got the best butter-melting British purr in the business. So if you’re Zack Snyder — or even if you’re not Zack Snyder, but are dropping the second chapter of a needlessly complicated space saga and need to get folks back up to speed — you enlist Sir Anthony to say things like: “On the far edges of the Motherworld’s reach, circling the gas giant Mara, was the small moon of Veldt…...

The reviews are officially in, and the consensus is clear, it’s just not clicking with the masses.
