Microsoft considered handing the Halo franchise over to Gearbox, the eventual developer of the Borderlands franchise.
In a recent interview with IGN, Bonnie Ross (head of 343 Industries) spoke about the uncertain period of time that preceded the release of Halo 4. Specifically, she dives into how Microsoft wasn't who was going to develop Halo 4 after Bungie and Microsoft split.
In fact, Microsoft was apparently leaning towards either canceling the franchise or handing it to an outside development team. Ross was quick to shoot down that first option as she felt that there was still too much left to explore in the Halo universe. Eventually, she was able to convince key members of Microsoft at the time that the series was worth preserving.
From there, Ross helped form 343 Industries (named after Halo character 343 Guilty Sparks) who, of course, went on to develop Halo 4. They remain the new developer of...

I was excited for the Steven Spielberg-produced Halo series when director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) was attached to direct it. He ended up dropping out to to scheduling conflicts, and now he’s been replaced by director Otto Bathurst, the filmmaker behind the recent Robin Hood movie reboot.
I don’t know how you all felt about Robin Hood, but I thought it was awful. But he has also worked on shows such as Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror. My excitement for this Halo series isn’t as strong as it used to be, but maybe it will surprise me.
Halo has been trying to get a proper adaptation made since 2005 when Peter Jackson, Neill Blomkamp, Guillermo del Toro, and Alex Garland were working on it. That would have been an epic team of talent! Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

Showtime’s adaptation of the wildly popular video game “Halo” has found its new director.
The network has announced that Otto Bathurst will assume the director’s chair for multiple episodes, as well as serving as Ep for the live-action series.
Bathurst’s most recent directorial credits include last year’s adaption of “Robin Hood” with Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx, and brief stints on critically-acclaimed British shows “Peaky Blinders” and “Black Mirror.”
Previously, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” Director Rupert Wyatt was in the frame to helm the show, but he announced in December he had to step away due to “changes to the production schedule.”
In terms of plot, the adaptation of the Xbox mega hit will be a dramatization of the conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Set in the 26th century, the show will “weave deeply drawn personal stories with action,...

Showtime’s impending “Halo” TV show is still shrouded in a layer of mystery: How exactly the series is going to adapt the mammoth video game franchise is something of an unknown at this point. But at least now audiences know who to expect behind the camera. The network announced on Thursday that Otto Bathurst will be directing the series. No stranger to helping get genre fare off the ground, Bathurst was also the director for the very first installment of “Black Mirror,” the porcine nightmare “The National Anthem.” In addition to his work on that anthology series, Bathurst also directed the opening trio of episodes of “Peaky Blinders.”
Bathurst’s debut feature was last fall’s latest attempt to reboot “Robin Hood.” Starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx, the film premiered to less than favorable reviews and grossed just $84 million worldwide. Still, Bathurst is also a part of the upcoming “His Dark Materials” series,...

Showtime’s Halo has found its new director in British helmer Otto Bathurst. After a lengthy search, Bathurst has been tapped to direct the series based on the popular Xbox video game franchise.
Bathurst will helm multiple episodes and will executive produce the live-action series, which has Kyle Killen (Awake) serving as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Produced by Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries, along with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, Halo, which has an initial nine-episode order, will begin production later this year.
Filming was originally skated to start in early 2019 but was pushed when Rupert Wyatt, who had been announced as director/executive producer at the time of Halo‘s official greenlight in June, exited in early December as preliminary casting on the show had begun. The first time I clapped eyes on Pathfinder in Apex Legends he immediately reminded me of the titular loveable robot from Neill Blomkamp’s seriously underrated 2015 movie Chappie. It seems I wasn’t the only one to make this connection, either, as fans began a petition on the r/ApexLegends subreddit to get him added to the game as a custom skin.
That post currently has 16.4k upvotes and has reached such a critical mass that Blomkamp himself has weighed in now, saying: “Lotta people asking me this. USA Network has given a straight-to-series order to Brave New World, based on the Aldous Huxley novel, from Universal Content Productions and Amblin Television. The series adaptation was written by David Wiener (Homecoming), with Grant Morrison (Happy!) and Brian Taylor.
Brave New World has had a long development history. Syfy and Amblin TV originally partnered to develop a scripted series based on Huxley’s classic in 2015. A year later, Morrison and Taylor were tapped to write the adaptation.
Speculation started last summer that Brave New World may be moving from Syfy to the larger-scale sibling USA Network with a straight-to-series order and a co-licensing deal with a digital platform to distribute it internationally. By last fall, stages in the UK had been reserved for the production, and there were rumors that USA and Syfy’s newest corporate sibling, the British Sky, may be involved.

If Yj was still on Cartoon Network, they would have been canceled the second the showrunners put the words "Doom Patrol Go!" on paper.
Beast Boy is a surprisingly integral character to Young Justice: Outsiders. He showed up late in the first season and wound up as Miss Martian's semi-brother (it's complicated) by the end of the episode. Then he came back as a semi-regular character in season two, developing his powers and being a solid all around character.

Young Justice Outsiders Episode 13
If "Nightmare Monkeys" is a sign of what the Young Justice team can do freed from their constraints of a network and a regular tv schedule, "True Heroes" is what happens when they forget that they're unchained. "True Heroes" is an hour to 90 minutes of show jammed into a 22 minute television episode, a failure of storytelling and imagination that represents the first real turd of an otherwise spectacular return to the world.
Young Justice has never had a problem jamming a ton of stuff into a 20ish minute show. But when they do try and pack it in, they're usually more elegant about it, relying on subtlety and character to drive the central plot forward. That doesn't happen in the midseason finale: it's discarded for rote sequencing and infodumps,...

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 11
Everyone's going to be talking about Cyborg's arrival in the Young Justice: Outsiders universe after "Another Freak." And that's a huge deal. He's a great character and I'm impressed with how much they did with him in such a short period of time. And in the hands of the team that's making the Outsiders such vibrant characters, I'm certain he's going to be fantastic. But to me, it seems like the Young Justice: Outsiders folks and I share a strong opinion about a very important issue.
Dick Grayson is not the best Robin, but he is the best Batman.

Young Justice Outsiders Episode 10
It's amazing how much "Exceptional Human Beings" does in 22 minutes without doing a single thing wrong. Or even "not good enough to be free of complaint." I went back and watched parts of the episode a second time to find something to critique and I got nothing. That is astonishing. I live to complain. I have an argument with family that spans a literal generation about the noise that Tie fighters make that is rooted in the now-discarded Star Wars EU, but I can't find anything wrong with really either of the last two episodes of Young Justice: Outsiders.
Even as I was thinking of minor criticisms, they were resolved almost immediately. The bulk of "Exceptional Human Beings" is spent on Santa Prisca, as Batman and his Outsiders...

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 9
Early on in Young Justice: Outsiders' return, it was pretty clear that the creators of the show hadn't missed a step since they left six years ago. That wasn't an entirely accurate observation, though. In the intervening half-decade, they actually got substantially better at making superhero tv shows, and when you think about how good the show was when they left off, that's incredible. This latest episode is the proof.
Picking up where they left off last week, we open on a new community center for metahumans being opened by the League in Taos, New Mexico. Aqualad, El Dorado, El Dorado's dad, and a few others are there to welcome Live Wire and Mist in to help them adjust to having powers but nobody mind controlling them.

This Young Justice: Outsiders review contains spoilers.
Young Justice Season 3 Episode 8
"Triptych" is exactly what the title implies: three adjacent stories that tell one bigger tale. It plays a little loose with the passage of time, but it also moves the ball further down the field than any episode yet this season and looks at the overarching story of Young Justice: Outsiders from a different angle, expanding the world in interesting ways.
The three stories are fairly straightforward: Nightwing and his Outsiders get a lead on where to find more information about Brion's sister and the League, so they head for a Detroit airport hangar where Shade, Live Wire, and Mist are waiting for their teammate, Cheshire, to get sewn up after taking a bullet at Star Labs, where they were stealing something Reach-related. A near-perfect episode of Young Justice is marred only by the real world.
This Young Justice review contains spoilers.
Young Justice: Outsiders Episode 7
Probably the biggest hurdle to the success of Young Justice: Outsiders after six years away was getting everything back together again after everyone went their separate ways, and some things have changed irrevocably. "Evolution" was a terrific episode, one of the finest Vandal Savage stories in any medium, but as good as David Kaye is in this episode voicing him, it's still a reminder that a ton of time has passed since the show was last on the air and some of their voice cast couldn't come back.
The two missing voice actors this season are Tim Curry as G. Gordon Godfrey and Miguel Ferrer as Savage, and they've both been missed so far this season. Curry's Godfrey was perfect as the frothing, barely-holding-it-together maniac talk radio host.

Bonnie Ross, who's bossed Halo since 343 took control of the franchise, says it's been "a very humbling experience"
It's been an interesting few years for the Halo franchise, which has seen a lot of change in the last decade, including a new studio and the release of two major installments that take the series in a different direction. It has also seen its fair share of criticism, especially with Halo 5: Guardians, a game that put Master Chief in the backseat and got rid of split-screen multiplayer, a beloved feature among fans. Then there's The Master Chief Collection, which has been marred by online technical issues since its release in 2014. Now, the person at the top of the series' behind-the-scenes food chain has admitted that developer 343 Industries "made some mistakes.".
343 has been handling the Halo series since 2007, when Bungie split from Microsoft, with Bonnie Ross as head of the studio.

"Away Mission" hits the right balance between Young Justice: Outsiders action and character growth.

Young Justice Season 3 Episode 5
So far, Young Justice: Outsiders has wasted no time reminding us of how good the show is in every way. The writing is top shelf, the animation is excellent, and every episode, a different voice actor gives us an exceptional performance. In the first episode, it was Khary Payton. Last episode, Zehra Fazal (Halo) shone. And in "Away Mission," Jason Spisak returns as something completely different.
When we talked to the folks behind Young Justice: Outsiders about this season, they made a point of bringing up that Spisak was giving one of their favorite performances of the show, and it's not hard to figure out why this episode. Young Justice: Outsiders gives us three thirds of a good episode broken by pacing issues
This Young Justice review contains spoilers.
Young Justice: Outsiders Episode 4
The first episode of the second batch of Young Justice's return is mostly transitional, and while it's got a lot to like, there are a couple of issues that I'm worried point to a bigger, structural problem that may develop with the show.
When we left our team (not to be confused with The Team), they were kicking ass in Markovia to rescue a bunch of kidnapped kids and the newly powered crown prince. "Private Security" sort of picks up where they left off, but it jumps around in time a little. There are three different thirds of individual good episodes, but there are a couple of tacked on plots that feel like mandatory check ins, and the way they're paced out doesn't integrate at all.

Without Activision, Bungie now has control of its own Destiny. Is this a good thing for the shooter franchise?
The planned ten-year contract between Bungie and Activision has ended two years early. Bungie announced in January that it would be taking full control of the Destiny franchise going forward. The separation of the two companies comes as a surprise, although the signs were there. Late last year, Activision expressed its disappointment with the latest Destiny 2 expansion, Forsaken, which failed to meet the publisher's sales expectations. While we don't know the exact reason for the split, it stands to reason that Destiny was becoming a riskier investment for Activision while Bungie felt more creatively restricted by the publisher's sales goals. Perhaps the breakup was mutual.
Bungie and Activision have reportedly disagreed regarding Destiny’s direction since day 1, according to Kotaku. It hardly needs to be said that Activision...

There are two moments in "Eminent Threat" that made me step back in awe of how well the creative team behind Young Justice knows their subjects and how good they are at storytelling. “I don’t think I would still be at Microsoft or in technology if I hadn’t found gaming.”

Chevel Shepherd won “The Voice” on Tuesday in one of the biggest upset in the show’s 15 seasons. We asked viewers what they thought of this win by Kelly Clarkson‘s last remaining artist in the competition. While 25% were thrilled that this teen talent took home the trophy, a whopping 75% thought this was the wrong result and wanted one of the other three acts to win.
Fourth place finisher Kennedy Holmes got more than one-third of the votes in our overnight poll. She was the lone act in the final for Jennifer Hudson. For Hudson, it was a win to even get an artist into the Top 4 after she missed out on a place in the final in her debut season last year.

Amblin Television is developing a TV series based on Akira Kurosawa’s bellwether samurai classic, Rashomon.
The Rashomon effect is about to hit the medium of television. – At least, that’s the way it seems from our perspective.
Indeed, Rashomon, director Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 breakthrough samurai-age film – a crucial step in the evolution of stylistic film narration – is getting a serial treatment from Amblin Television, which has just optioned the rights. The film, centered on a crime that saw the death of a samurai and the rape of his wife, famously unfolded its story as told from the differing perspectives of multiple characters, notably buttressing the trope of the unreliable narrator. Indeed, the term "Rashomon effect" became popularized from the subjective narration style of the film.

Amblin Television has acquired the rights to Akira Kurosawa’s acclaimed film “Rashomon” with plans to develop it as an anthology series.
Each season of the 10-episode series would focus on a singular event told from multiple points of view where each of the main characters provides a unique and different perspective of the event based on their specific and subjective point of view. Only by watching each of the episodes, and seeing the differing character’s perspectives, will the audience come away with the truth behind the mystery.

“We couldn’t be more excited to adapt this extraordinary film as the foundation for a new dramatic mystery thriller series,” Frank and Falvey said in a joint statement. “It will explore the boundaries of truth and how different perspectives don’t often reveal the same reality.

In an age of comic book adaptations and ’80s film reboots, maybe the next popular intellectual property wave is 1950s Japanese cinema. So goes the thinking for Amblin Television, which has optioned the rights to the Akira Kurosawa film “Rashomon” to develop it into a season of TV.
While the concept of showing one particular crime through the prism of a number of different perspectives has become less of a novelty in the nearly 70 years since Kurosawa’s legendary film, this new series will look to tell one crime in each of its 10 episodes, told from the point of view of a different character. With all the knowledge from those combined inputs, the audience will be able to gather the information necessary to arrive at the truth of what actually occurred.

Kennedy Holmes is poised to pull off an upset and win season 15 of “The Voice” over frontrunner Kirk Jay, according to 38% of the viewers of Monday’s finale. They give the edge to this 14-year-old because she is the only non-country singer still in the competition. Kennedy is set to make history in two ways: as the youngest-ever winner of “The Voice” and the first for coach Jennifer Hudson.
This teen talent from St. Louis had all four coaches turning when she sang “Turning Tables” at her blind audition. She opted to work with her idol, Jennifer. Kennedy was then pitted against two other artists on Team Hudson. In each instance Jennifer went with her, first in the Battle round when she and Lela sang “Battlefield” and then in the Knockouts where her performance of “What About Us” outdid that of Anthony Arya.
