Second (albeit uncredited) Star Trek appearance of Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993)'s Quark) as the face of the talking gift box.
This is the second and last episode in which Commander Riker is referred to as "Bill." He was previously called "Bill" in The Naked Now (1987).
This episode features the only usage of the Enterprise-D's dining room. In future seasons, formal events would almost always be held in Ten Forward.
Armin Shimerman's appearance as the Betazoid Gift Box is one of his two non-Ferengi roles on Star Trek and his first role in the show, because this was filmed before The Last Outpost (1987). His other non-Ferengi role was in Far Beyond the Stars (1998), where he played an editor in 1950s New York, in addition to his regular role of Quark.
Even though Majel Barrett is known as the computer voice of the Trek Universe, she made her first appearance as the flamboyant Lwaxanna Troi a full year before she was credited as the voice of the computer.
