- TriviaThis is the first season finale to feature the song "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas. It was previously used over the original montage of 1.21 Salvation (2006) (though on Netflix that particular instance of the song's usage had to be replaced due to licensing issues). The song has gone on to be used at the beginning of every season finale since then, and has come to be regarded by fans as an unofficial theme song for the show.
- GoofsAfter Dean jumps up from his chair to yell at Bobby, you can hear the chair hit the floor. In the next frame, the chair is standing up and Dean leans against it.
- Quotes
Dean Winchester: You know when we were little, you couldn't have been more than five, you started asking me questions. Like, how come we didn't have a mom? Why we always have to move around? Where'd dad go? When he'd take off for days at a time. I remember I begged you to quit asking, Sammy, you don't want to know. I just wanted you to be a kid, just a little while longer. I was trying to protect you, keep you safe. Dad didn't even have to tell me, it was just always my responsibility. It was like I had one job. I had one job and I screwed it up. I blew it and for that I am sorry.
[Tears fall from his eyes and he wipes his eyes]
Dean Winchester: I guess that's what I do, I let down the people I love. I let dad down. And now, I guess I'm supposed to let you down, too. How can I? How am I supposed to live with that? What am I supposed to do, Sammy?
[Long pause]
Dean Winchester: What am I supposed to do?
[Gets up and kicks the bed]
Dean Winchester: [shouting] What am I supposed to do?

Jake flashes his yellow eyes at Ellen, and tells her to shoot herself, and in those ten seconds still nobody shoots Jake? So as Jake is standing there talking about how great it is to be a demonic critter, still nobody shoots him? When Jake tells Sam, Dean, and Bobby to lower their guns, still nobody shoots Jake, and the dummies lower their guns???
Then the four moronic heroes just stand there and watch Jake open the gates of hell. They finally act by wrestling the gun from Ellen, and shooting Jake.
They should have shot Jake when they first saw him. They knew he was there for demonic reasons. Or they should have shot Jake as soon as he flashed his eyes at Ellen. Obviously if they had put ten bullets into his brain, the hypnotic mojo on Ellen would have been over.
The dorks let the "yellow-eyes" demon win thanks to thier own sheer stupidity. This was a theme of numerous episodes and story-arcs, where the Winchesters were often outsmarted by any number of evil entities that were better prepared than the "hunters."
