Of all the contenders to play James Bond next, many would argue that Tom Hardy is effortlessly one of the best choices ever. His wit, charming demeanor, and overall personality make him stand out among everyone else and seem like the perfect choice to embody the peerless spy. Plus, he’s British, so that checks out another box of requirements for the character.

However, even after all these similarities, one thing still stands in the way between everyone deeming him to be the perfect choice for this role. This one thing is his 12-year-old $156 million box office disaster with Chris Pine, This Means War, which featured him as a CIA agent but failed to garner many appraisals for Hardy in the role because of his lackluster performance.

Chris Pine reflected on how his role in “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” changed his career — and life.
In the May 5 episode of “Sunday Sitdown With Willie Geist,” Pine spoke about being cast as Nicholas Devereaux in the 2004 film, which jumpstarted his career and turned his finances around.
“It was the height of summer and I was getting off at Magnolia. I was on my little Verizon tiny little flip phone, my silver one and I got a call from my agents that I booked the job,” Pine said. “I pulled over onto the side of the freeway and they said, ‘You’re getting paid $65,000,’ and it was like they had just told me I’d made $50 million. It was absolutely earth-shattering.”

Like Batman or Superman, Jack Ryan is a character that has seen several on-screen iterations played by a variety of actors. Unlike these superhero figures though, Jack Ryan isn’t rich and doesn’t have powers of any kind – really he’s just a regular dude. Created by prolific writer Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan is a man from a middle-class background who uses his military experience and education in history and economics to save the U.S. from both foreign and domestic adversaries.
But even though he doesn’t appear to be much more than a normal guy, that’s what makes him more relatable than other action heroes. Jack Ryan has been able to survive through so many film and TV adaptations because he is able to handle such exceptional situations with his intelligence and determination. He’s the epitome of the “American Dream,” and that really resonates with people.

Alright everyone, we’ve got all the spookies of October out of our system. Time to turn our eye to Hulu’s list of new releases for November 2022 to celebrate a new fall tradition of…hunky male dancers?
That’s right, Hulu’s biggest original title for November 2022 is Welcome to Chippendales on Nov. 22. This limited series stars Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the real life founder of the original Chippendales club of exotic male dancers. After hits like The Dropout and Pam & Tommy, Hulu likely has high hopes for this one.
The other big original series of note this month is FX’s Fleishman is in Trouble on Nov. 17. This is based on a 2019 novel of the same name and stars Jesse Eisenberg as the titular Toby Fleischman in crisis. Before that, Hulu is teaming up with ABC for some true crime docuseries like Where is Private Dulaney?...

In February of this year Hulu unleashed the true crime limited series “Pam & Tommy.” The Emmy-nominated series prompted audiences to look at the nature of celebrity culture, misogyny, and complicity in the wake of the infamous 1990s sex tape that shaped the internet. This month Robert Siegel, one-half of the creative team that brought “Pam & Tommy” to screens, returns with a similar true-life story: “Welcome to Chippendales.”
“Welcome to Chippendales” follows Somen “Steve” Banerjee’s (Kumail Nanjiani) rise and fall in the adult entertainment industry. Matt Shakman directs the series, with Nanjiani, his wife Emily V. While the stories of news or television reports being fabricated have always been at the center of attention, perhaps with the advent of ideas such as “fake news”, we witness a growing gap between media outlets and their former readers and viewers, at least a certain portion of them. Certainly, considering the aforementioned instances when a story was clearly fake and made just to make something more spectacular and sensationalist, some of the blame goes to the same reporters and outlets who are now being accused of creating “fake news” almost all the time by protesters and populist politicians. At the same time, the level of aggression directed at reporters and journalists is quite unprecedented, with some of them facing arrests and receiving death threats, and we are not merely talking about regimes where imprisoning reporters is more or less the norm whenever they dare talk about something against said system.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Isabella Ferreira takes our call.
Isabella Ferreira knew she wanted to play Gabriela in Hulu's new movie "Crush" as soon as she read the script. "I really just enjoyed how the film embraces LGBTQ+ characters without revolving the narrative around any of their coming-out stories, and it's a simple love story," she tells Popsugar. "Characters are out, surrounded by supportive parents and classmates, and I just think this positive depiction normalizes and encourages a safe environment for LGBTQ+ teens."
Ferreira also loved that the character was a "popular It girl" who was also Latina. She says, "I've always wanted to play that character," but she wasn't sure she'd ever get the chance.

Where is Fez from? No one really knows for sure, but we do know he might return to where he started in Point Place, Wisconsin.
In a TV Insider interview, NCIS‘s Valderrama said on the red carpet even though he’s having a jam-packed year between starring in the CBS crime procedural’s new season and preparing for the titular role on the ABC reboot of Zorro, the Miami-born actor has not ruled out squeezing some time in to reprise his character, the fan-favorite Fez, on That ’90s Show, if time permits.
“I’m a little busy now, but I support them so much. I’m rooting for them. I wish them nothing but the best,” Valderrama said.
“If the timing is right, I’d never say no,” suggesting his return to the Netflix That 70’s Show spinoff is possible.

Exclusive: NFL fans are going to see Colin Kaepernick at the Super Bowl tomorrow.
Sort of.
Long a social justice thorn in the league’s paw, the ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback isn’t taking the field at SoFi Stadium as the L.A. Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13. However, a fictionalized version of the activist will be featured in the official program for Super Bowl Lvi, I’ve learned.
Specifically, Jaden Michael as a teenage Kap is featured in an ad from Ava DuVernay’s Array for the learning companion to the Netflix series Colin in Black & White, which launched back on October 29, 2021 on the streamer.
Coming after Kaepernick being essentially blacklisted by the NFL for his taking a knee stance in protest against racism and police violence back in 2016, the placement of the Array 101 ad in the 288-page Super Bowl program is a high-profile...

Netflix has assembled the young series regular cast of That ’90s Show, a follow-up to hit sitcom That ’70s Show.
The new group of six teenage friends in Point Place, Wisconsin is led by Leia Forman, daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon) from the original series. Callie Haverda (Shut Eye) is set to play Leia, with Ashley Aufderheide (Emergence), Mace Coronel (Colin in Black & White), Maxwell Acee Donovan (Gabby Duran & The Unsittables), Reyn Doi (Side Hustle) and Sam Morelos cast as new teen characters opposite fellow series regulars Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp who are reprising their That ’70s Show roles as Red Forman and Kitty Forman, respectively.
I hear other That ’70s Show cast members, including Grace, Prepon, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher, are in negotiations to recur in the spinoff, which has a 10-episode order.

Spike Lee and Colin Kaepernick are teaming up with ESPN to tackle the life and career of the activist and former NFL player.
Seated together court side at Madison Square Garden for tonight’s New York Knicks match-up against the Memphis Grizzlies, the duo have started production on the docuseries for the Disney-owned sports cabler. Unlike Netflix’s acclaimed mixed genre coming of age Colin in Black & White last year, from Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay, the Lee helmed project is the first unscripted deep dive into the ex-San Francisco 49er’s saga from his own Pov.
A long-time supporter of the unsigned quarterback who has been shunned by the NFL after Kaepernick took a knee in 2016 during the national anthem as a protest against police violence and social injustice, Lee will produce the project with ESPN Films through his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks. Kaepernick will also produce along with Atlantic journalist Jemele Hill.

You know how the saying goes, never meet your heroes? Well, for Colin in Black & White star Jaden Michael, his experience portraying Colin Kaepernick wouldn't have been complete if he didn't have the chance to meet the former San Francisco 49ers player - let alone work with him. According to Michael, part of the audition process for the limited Netflix series was meeting Kaepernick face-to-face and he was more than thrilled to share a meeting with the man whom he has admired long before the series even developed.
"It was supposed to be 30 minutes and it ended up being an hour and a half because we just started talking about music, our childhoods, what it means to be Black in America," Michael told Variety during an interview, referencing the first time he met Kaepernick. NBC has set a fall premiere date for Home Sweet Home, a new series from Ava DuVernay, her Array Filmworks and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television.
Described as a family social experiment, Duvernay’s first unscripted series will bow at 8 p.m. Friday, October 15. It’s also the Emmy winner and Oscar nominee’s first series for NBC.
Each episode will follow two families from completely different walks of life as they accept the challenge to explore a world unlike their own. Cameras might look at the food a family has in its refrigerator, which shows are cued up on their DVR or whether their closets on trend. At the end of each hourlong episode, the two families reunite to share their experiences.
“I am thrilled that my first series with NBC is one that can be enjoyed by the entire family,” said DuVernay, who created the show and exec produces with Array’s Paul Garnes.

Who Could Kill a Child?: Zeldovich Explores a Fearful Symmetry in Modernized Tragedy
Russian director Alexander Zeldovich’s filmography is something of a curiosity unto itself, which feels more apparent than ever in his fourth feature, Medea. Hollywood’s last big all-star war epic in Black & White? Otto Preminger took a happy film company to Hawaii for this enormous saga about the Naval push in the Pacific Theater of WW2, with none other than John Wayne as the competent commander leading the charge. Soap-opera scenes aside, it’s a thrilling epic directed with Preminger’s well-known reserve. The star-gazing isn’t bad either — Kirk Douglas! Patricia Neal! Henry Fonda! Paula Prentiss! The finish is a huge naval battle with impressive live-action special effects, and given a moody music score by Jerry Goldsmith.

A few years ago Nintendo released a little console called the Wii; a console that didn’t really appeal to “gamers” and one that seemingly was destined to the scrap heap… But then something happened. Your mum had a play and loved the motion controls, then invited your dad to play and he loved it too! Then the Wii exploded with “casual gaming” at its forefront – appealing to those people who’d never consider learning complex traditional video game control systems but who were happy to pick up a Wiimote and swing it around willy-nilly. Why do I mention this? Well one of the biggest hits of the Wii era was Wii Sports. A game that sold over 82 million copies by the end of 2017, bearing the distinction (at the time) of being the best-selling Nintendo video game of all time… And Just For Games’ Instant Sports franchise looks to recapture...

When Bosch first premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014, the streaming world was in a very different place. Netflix had only House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt. Hulu was still a joint venture owned by multiple conglomerates. Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock didn’t even exist. Now, in June 2021, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases is highlighted by one last outing for LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Bosch season 7 premieres on June 25. This will be the last batch of episodes for the series, before a spinoff gets rolling for IMDb TV. For those who are not caught up on the sprawling procedural, Amazon has some other original TV series this month as well. Brazilian crime drama Dom premieres on June 4. That will be followed by the second season of the Anna Paquin-starring public relations drama Flack on June 25.

Exclusive: Oscar winning actress Holly Hunter is in talks to star and produce the feature adaptation of Sue Miller’s bestselling novel Monogamy.
Killer Films and Yellow Bear Films have closed a deal for the book, I hear, with Dani Shapiro set to adapt and also produce. Miller will serve as EP.
Released by Harper last September in hardcover with the paperback version hitting store shelves today, Monogamy follows golden couple, Graham and Annie, who remain effortlessly devoted to one another after nearly 30 years of marriage. Graham is a bookseller, a big, gregarious man with large appetites—curious, eager to please, a lover of life, and the convivial host of frequent, lively parties at his and Annie’s comfortable house in Cambridge. Annie, more reserved and introspective, is a photographer. When Graham suddenly dies—this man whose enormous presence has seemed to dominate their lives together—Annie is lost. What...

Growing up in Africa, one of the first Hollywood movies to make an impact on Sipho Dlamini was Eddie Murphy’s 1988 comedy “Coming to America,” in which the comedian starred as a prince from the fictional African country of Zamunda.
“I know how significant a movie it was to people living in Africa or Africans in the diaspora,” says Dlamini, a veteran music executive who in January was promoted to CEO of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan South Africa. “I can still recite some of the jokes from the first movie, like the barbershop scene or the jokes about ‘sexual chocolate.’ It’s one of my favorite comedies of all time.”
So when Dlamini visited Universal Music Group’s offices in Los Angeles in late 2019 and started catching wind of conversations around the soundtrack for the movie’s long-in-the-works sequel, “Coming 2 America”, he knew he had to find a way to get involved.

Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick have found their young man.
Jaden Michael will portray the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback as a teenager in the limited series Colin in Black & White. The former NFL star and social justice activist will executive produce the six-episode Netflix project with Emmy-nominated When They See Us boss DuVernay and scribe Michael Starrbury.
DuVernay will direct the first episode, with Kaepernick set to narrate.
Focusing on Kaepernick’s adolescence and early football, basketball and baseball successes in Turlock, CA, Colin in Black & White will put specific emphasis on the influences and circumstances that developed the social and cultural conscience of the young man adopted by a white family. Leaning into the culture warrior that Kaepernick has become, the series will spotlight the seeds laid in the early 2000s that flourished in the off-the-field battle of today.
