Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage star in summer horror movie Longlegs, and a full trailer for the film has landed. Here…
We reported last week that the full trailer for Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs had emerged in US cinemas and made its way onto social media. Well, US distibutor Neon has now released the full trailer online and it seems to differ from the one that leaked on social media.
Take a look at the full trailer below:
Well, that was rather creepy. Osgood Perkins has been creating a steady reputation as the master of dread with his previous films, but Longlegs looks like it takes that creep-factor to a whole new level.
Nicolas Cage is said to be playing the titular serial killer that Maika Monroe’s FBI agent is hunting and we certainly hear him in the trailer, but we haven’t actually got a look of him yet.

The bar wasn’t very high to clear, but Lionsgate’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 did manage to break a box office record here in 2024, achieving the highest opening weekend at the domestic box office out of any horror movie released this year… so far. This despite largely negative reviews, once again proving that the horror genre is as review-proof as it comes.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 debuted with $11.83M at the domestic box office in 2,856 locations, just barely topping Blumhouse’s Night Swim to rip the crown off the top of its head.
Here’s the full lineup of domestic opening weekends for horror this year…
The Strangers: Chapter 1 – $11.8 million Night Swim – $11.7 million Abigail – $10.2 million Imaginary – $9.9 million The First Omen – $8.3 million Tarot – $6.5 million Immaculate – $5.3 million Lisa Frankenstein – $3.6 million
For further context and comparison, 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night opened to $10.4 million before making $31 million worldwide, a number Chapter 1 may eventually reach.

It’s been over 18 months since we first shared the news of Sydney Sweeney’s plans to produce and star in a reboot of Roger Vadim’s cult 1968 sci-fi Barbarella. Since then, Sweeney’s star has risen and risen, with the Euphoria sensation releasing a slew of films including rom-com Anyone But You, erotic thriller The Voyeurs, and nunsploitation flick Immaculate, leaving ol’ Barb on the back burner. But now it looks like Sweeney has found the right stuff to finally get the project off the ground. The Wright stuff, in fact.
According to Deadline, none other than Cornetto Trilogy mastermind Edgar Wright is in talks to helm the remake. Reportedly Wright has been circling the film for some time, meeting with Sweeney shortly after the remake was announced and expressing an interest in developing the project in a directorial capacity. Edgar Wright will direct a remake of Barbarella starring Sydney Sweeney, and here are details of the upcoming film.
It was reported last year thar Edgar Wright was going to direct a remake of Barbarella. The original 1968 film, adapted from the French comic book series by Jean-Claude Forest and directed by Roger Vadim, followed Jane Fonda as an astronaut from the 41st century. She sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy.
Jane Fonda has repeatedly claimed that she pushed its producer, Dino De Laurentiis to make a feminist take on the film many times but he always refused.
According to Deadline, the new film is now officially in development, with Wright directing from a screenplay by Jane Goldman and her daughter Honey. Sydney Sweeney will star in the picture too, we now learn.

Sydney Sweeney is one of the hottest new stars in Hollywood at the moment, and one of her next projects will cast the actress in the role of Barbarella.
Deadline reports this afternoon that Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the brand new Barbarella movie starring Sydney Sweeney.
Jane Goldman and Honey Goldman are in talks to write the screenplay for Sony. They’ll be writing the movie alongside Edgar Wright.
Deadline notes in their exclusive report today, “The film is still in development given Sweeney’s busy schedule and Wright deep in prep on his The Running Man reboot with Glen Powell starring, so the project will not be next up for either talent.”
Barbarella began its life as a French comic book series from creator Jean-Claude Forest, which was later adapted in 1968 as a feature film starring Jane Fonda as the title character.

A good "Omen" prequel? Alright, which one of you jokers made a deal with the devil? Director Richard Donner's original 1976 horror classic has spawned no shortage of film sequels, plus a failed TV pilot, a sequel TV series, and a 2006 remake featuring an utterly bizarre screenwriting credit. However, director and co-writer Arkasha Stevenson's "The First Omen" is the first entry to be widely heralded as a worthy continuation. In his review for /Film, Witney Seibold described the picture as "thoughtfully menacing, uniquely stylish, deathfully intense, and utterly terrifying" before crowning it "the best horror movie of the year so far."
Sadly, early 2024 hasn't been kind to horror at the box office, and Stevenson's film was no exception. On the other hand, Disney had initially planned on punting the movie straight to Hulu before sending it to theaters, so "The First Omen" was never under pressure to become a huge hit.

No Time To Die’s Cary Joji Fukunaga is to direct 77 Blackout, with Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy set to star.
The Cannes FIlm Festival launches this week, which means there are plenty of new projects popping up as they head to the event in search of buyers.
One such film is 77 Blackout, a heist thriller that boasts the twin talents of Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy. Cary Joji Fukunaga, the director of No Time To Die – and the mind behind the acclaimed first season of True Detective – will helm the film.

Here’s the synopsis, via Deadline:

Horror has been one of the most reliable genres at the box office since the pandemic began. Even movies like "The Wretched" helped keep the industry's pulse going while most theaters were shut down in 2020. Unfortunately, 2024 has, up to this point, not produced a major break-out hit yet, with only indie success stories like "Immaculate" and "Late Night with the Devil" to celebrate. We've yet to have a "Smile" ($22.6 million domestic opening/$217 million global finish) or a "M3GAN" ($30.4 million domestic opening/$180 million worldwide). Lionsgate, however, hopes to change that with the release of "The Strangers: Chapter 1."
Directed by Renny Harlin, this is the first entry in a new trilogy of films that will reboot the franchise started by director Bryan Bertino in 2008 with his home invasion classic "The Strangers." As the title implies, "Chapter 1" is just the first entry in the trilogy, which has already been completely filmed.

Syndey Sweeney is currently one of the most in-demand young actors generally. She has just recently come off the hit rom-com Anyone But You and horror pic Immaculate, but that doesn’t mean that the young actress is taking a rest. Sydney Sweeney has been cast as boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic. The 26-year-old 'Euphoria' actress - who has recently appeared in the likes of 'Anyone But You' and 'Immaculate' - is once again switching directions as she takes on the role of a boxing trailblazer described by producers as the "female Rocky".Sweeney told Deadline: "Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse."I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains."I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her. It’s powerful, and emotional.”The 'White Lotus' star is no stranger to boxing and Mma,...

Sweeney is set to play Christy Martin in a film that will be directed by War Machine’s David Michod. The project is set to go to market at Cannes next week.
Following the commercial success of their 2023 romantic comedy, Anyone But You, both Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell have been building their careers based on the perception within Hollywood that they can now ‘open’ a movie. Selling a movie based on star power continues to be important in the kind of mid to low-budget films that Sweeney seems intent on making: her recent nun-centric horror flick Immaculate was reportedly made for just $9m and as well as being a lot of fun, the film made that back and more during its theatrical run.
According to World Of Reel, one of Sweeney’s next projects will also see her put in another performance where she has to run a physical and emotional gauntlet,...

Sydney Sweeney is getting in the ring.
The breakout from, well, basically everything she’s done lately is set to play boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic directed by David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”). Insert your own joke here about being a knockout. The script for the untitled project was written by Mirrah Foulkes and Michôd.
Martin was the most successful female boxer of the 1990s. She signed with Don King and is the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Martin became welterweight champion — but that was about the end of the good things in her life. Christy was physically abused by husband Jim Martin, who was eventually convicted of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Christy Martin’s life is documented in “Untold,” the excellent series of documentaries by Chaplain and Maclain Way. Her episode is subtitled “Deal with the Devil,...

Sydney Sweeney has lined up her next role as groundbreaking boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic.
Australian filmmaker David Michôd, best known for his films Animal Kingdom and The King, will direct from a script co-written with Mirrah Foulkes.
The movie will chart Martin’s rise to the most recognized female boxer in the 1990s, from meeting her manager and future husband Jim Martin to becoming the first woman to sign with star-making promoter Don King. Dubbed the “female Rocky” by the film’s producers, Martin remains the only female boxer to land a Sports Illustrated cover.
In an interview with Deadline, Michôd said, “The film is about Christy as a young gay woman in small town Virginia in the 1990s. She came from a relatively conservative family and wasn’t allowed to be who she was so she used boxing as a vehicle to express herself and her rage.

The Austin-based SXSW festival is landing in London from 2025. More on the festival’s expansion below.
We’re lucky to have a lot of great festivals, big and small, all around the UK. Granted, a lot of them are London-based – and sure enough, it’s just been announced that the capital is about to add another major arts festival to its roster.
Starting from June 2025, the Austin-based SXSW festival will begin a special London edition. Variety reports that the event will be “the mix of keynotes conversations, film and TV events, music showcases and showcases for innovations in digital and gaming that have defined SXSW since the festival began in 1987.”
SXSW isn’t the first international festival to land in London. Sundance holds its own London festival in June as well, so we’ll see if it’ll have to move to a later date to accommodate for SXSW.

Production on the film, from Black Bear and also starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, began earlier this month in Spokane, Wash.
“Train Dreams” is the sweeping and poignant tale of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a day laborer employed as a logger helping to expand the railways across America. Forced to spend prolonged periods of time away from his wife, Gladys (Jones), and their young daughter, Grainier struggles to make sense of his place in a rapidly changing world. As his story unfolds, he experiences great love, unspeakable loss, and unique bonds on a journey that is both distinct and universal. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s Anyone But You was highly anticipated leading up to its release. In addition to the film’s trailer featuring a sizzling chemistry between the two, the promotions for the film also were an exciting affair for fans who witnessed the actors having a lot of funny and cozy banter. They used the dating rumors to their advantage which worked in the film’s favor.

From the team behind Flickering Myth comes the gothic horror film The Baby In The Basket. First look and more details below.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2024 has been a proper rollercoaster ride for horror fans. After a slow start, we’ve since been treated to the excellent Immaculate and The First Omen and the riotously fun Abigail and we’re not too far off from the release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1.
We’ve now got word of another horror film heading our way, hopefully sooner rather than later. The Baby In The Basket is directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane from a script by Tom Jolliffe.
The Baby In The Basket is “set in 1942 where, as World War II rages on as the nuns of isolated Scottish monastery St. Augustine’s prepare for an incoming storm front. During the night,...

Sydney Sweeney is an up-and-coming young actor who has taken the world by storm because of her brilliant talent. Home viewing charts inspire deja vu: “Anyone but You,” a hit as a PVOD release, just debuted at Netflix. It knocked out Netflix’s expensive “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” from first place after two weeks, falling to #6.
Similarly, “Dune: Part Two” returned for its second week as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (which calculates by revenue).
The “Dune” sequel fended off challenges by two recent theatrical releases. Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” (Universal), once intended as a Netflix original, is #2 at iTunes, third at Fandango. The family-oriented “Arthur the King” (Lionsgate) took second at Fandango, but only #6 at iTunes. Both initially are available to rent for 48 hours for $19.99.
Two new home-play debuts also made top 10 lists. “Cash Out” (Saban) is #9 at iTunes, renting at $6.99; starring John Travolta, the critically reviled title may be getting as much attention for its little-known director Ives. That’s...

Whatever one thinks of the highly controversial TV series Euphoria, there’s one thing no one can deny. No show of this era has been a better launching point for the careers of young movie stars. Zendaya is currently enjoying huge success on the big screen, thanks to Dune: Part Two and Challengers, while Sydney Sweeney is just on the other side of a rare rom-com box office success with Anyone But You and has also just produced and starred in the excellent horror flick Immaculate. Jacob Elordi received a bit of praise for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the Sofia Coppola film Priscilla last year and will next play Frankenstein’s Monster for Guillermo del Toro.

“Satan is his father and his name is Adrian!” shouts the coven leader Roman Castevet at the end of 1968’s. Rosemary’s Baby. “He shall overthrow the mighty and lay waste their temples. He shall redeem the despised and wreak vengeance in the name of the burned and the tortured.”
Even when making allowances for Roman’s (Sidney Blackmer) understandable delight at seeing his plan come to fruition, that’s a lot of expectation to put on a newborn, no matter who his father might be. Unfortunately, the sequels chronicling Adrian’s rise to power didn’t quite live up to those expectations. Neither the 1976 TV movie Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby, in which Patty Duke subs in for Mia Farrow, nor original author Ira Levin’s follow-up book Son of Rosemary (1997) manages to deliver what Roman promised.
But for the next film branching out of Rosemary’s Baby,...

A young rookie cop faces the worst shift of her life in an abandoned police station. Here’s our review of the indie horror, Malum, in cinemas now.
Most of us have done nightmarish shifts at work. Regardless of your industry, no one is immune to a bad day. Maybe a customer yelled at you, you had to clean up a mess of something yucky, or perhaps everything that could go wrong, just went wrong.
Still: I doubt any of us have experienced quite as bad a shift as Jessica Loren does in Anthony Diblasi’s Malum.
Malum is in fact a remake, or more of a reimagining, of Diblasi’s 2015 film Last Shift. Remaking your own film less than 10 years after it was released might seem silly, but Malum manages to successfully squeeze more out of Last Shift’s deceivingly simple premise.
The basic idea and plot are the same in both films.

In Challengers, everyone is obsessed with Zendaya. Or, at least, her character Tashi Duncan. “She’s gonna turn her whole family into millionaires,” says Josh O’Connor’s young tennis champ Patrick Zweig, to old friend and doubles partner Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). “She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.” It’s easy to see why they’re in awe. Duncan is a world-class player, brand ambassador, and the object of both their affections. And with regards to ambition, ability, and enormous success at a young age, they could just as easily be talking about Zendaya herself – a star who, over the past few years, has been executing her own Tashi-esque world domination. So far, she’s moved from kids’ TV star to being a part of some of the biggest movies on the planet. With Challengers, though, she’s taking things to a whole other level.

Opening soon in a theater near you are “Run Lola Run,” “Interstellar,” “Hereditary,” “Split,” and “Spirited Away.” They join fellow comeback kids “Oldboy,” “Stop Making Sense,” “Coraline,” “Amelié,” and Pixar’s pandemic-era films making their theatrical returns.
Last year’s strikes can take credit for some of this nostalgia: With distributors forced to delay films, theaters are desperate for product. However, desperation is not the only mother of this invention. A24, Neon, and other specialty distributors are treating re-releases as a way to reach younger audiences.
Last year, Neon re-released Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film “Oldboy” to $2.1 million worldwide. At a CinemaCon panel April 8, Neon distribution president Elissa Federoff credited its success to a young audience eager to see it on a big screen for the first time. “What is old is new for these younger audiences,” she said.

Dan Stevens is having the time of his life as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has become a big hit for Warner Bros and Legendary. His latest release Abigail has also received great reviews from critics and audiences, with many praising his performance. His versatility in switching from a delightfully charming role to an intense individual in the two films is impressive, to say the least.
Dan Stevens as Frank in Abigail
He has yet another horror film later this year titled Cuckoo, where he stars alongside Hunter Schafer. The horror genre has seen a huge evolution over the years with the Conjuring films, along with Immaculate and The First Omen this year, Stevens is set to continue in the horror genre as he is set to team up with Al Pacino for a new exorcism film.

The religious horror movie Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Michael Mohan, wears its horror influences on its sleeves. Neon’s new horror movie is now available on Digital and PVOD, making it easier to catch up with the buzzy title. If you’ve already seen Immaculate, this companion watch guide highlights horror movies to pair with it.
Sweeney stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Cecilia’s warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside gets derailed soon enough when she discovers she’s become pregnant and realizes the convent harbors disturbing secrets.
From Will Bates’ gothic score to the filming locations and even shot compositions, Immaculate owes a lot to its cinematic influences. Mohan pulls from more than just religious horror, though. While Immaculate pays tribute to the classics, the horror movie surprises...
