Abdelhafid Metalsi in ‘Cherif’ on MHz Choice
Season 5 of the light-hearted French TV police drama “Cherif” opens where Season 4 left off. Adeline (Carole Bianic) had been set up by her nemesis, Commandant Sylvie Delmas (Catherine Marchal) for a murder, with the evidence against her looking pretty solid. First order of business is for Captain Cherif (Abdelhafid Metasi) to whip up one of his off-the-wall game plans to save his partner. I won’t say how, but we all know he does.
My review of previous seasons of “Cherif” on this site was posted on June 6. Please scroll down through that review for background for this season.
As Season 5 progresses, Adeline’s ordeal throughout Season 4 has taken a toll. Despite her blossoming romance with Cherif, work is no longer the source of satisfaction it had always been. This leads to her departure, and puts Cherif into a funk. But a new homicide squad member,...

“Cherif” is a subtitled French mystery TV series set in Lyon, France, that ran for six years. Based on the episodes I’ve seen (the first and fourth seasons), it richly deserved that level of success. Cherif (Abdelhafid Metalsi) is a maverick police captain who exudes the sort of roguish charisma that plays well in any culture or context.
As the series begins, Cherif has been assigned a new partner, Adeline (Carole Bianic) – an uptight, by-the-book woman who is also new to Lyon, and unaccustomed to his unorthodox methods of dealing with suspects and witnesses. As usual, his ways prove highly successful, and she grudgingly becomes more flexible. Ain’t it always that way? After all, if Murtaugh had made Riggs more disciplined, the Lethal Weapon...

Warner TV, the French pay-tv channel and on-demand service launched by WarnerMedia, is teaming with Mediawan Group’s MakingProd for its first French original TV series, “Visitors,” a fantasy comedy by Simon Astier.
The eight-part half-hour series was created, written and is being directed by Astier, whose fanboy profile and graphic universe seem to be the perfect match for Warner TV’s identity. Astier’s previous credits include the comedic science fiction series “Hero Corp” in which he also starred, and Netflix’s supernatural series “Mortel.” Stéphane Drouet at MakingProd is producing “Visitors,” which recently started filming.
Astier stars in “Visitors” as Richard, a rookie police officer who sees two strange lights colliding in the sky on his first day on the job. The series’ large ensemble cast also includes Florence Loiret Caille, Damien Jouillerot, Vincent Desagnat, Tiphaine Daviot, Grégoire Ludig, Julie Bargeton, David Marsais, Arnaud Tsamere, Delphine Baril and Adrien Ménielle.

Y Tu Mama Tambien director Gael García Bernal, Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller Bridge, Dexter’s Michael C Hall and The Wire’s Michael Kenneth Williams are all set to walk the famous steps of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes this week. However, instead of the film festival’s famous red carpet, the group will be strolling down a pink carpet for the launch of TV festival Canneseries.
The event, which takes place alongside Mip TV from April 4 – 11, is the brainchild of Cannes mayor David Lisnard, who wanted to replicate the success of the city’s film festival with an event celebrating the small screen. It is run by former French Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin and former TF1 executive Benoît Louvet, who is managing director.
Louvet tells Deadline: “Our aim has always been to introduce a world class international festival dedicated to series, made possible by the location, the city of Cannes,...
