Actor Glen Powell was propelled to new heights of stardom when he starred as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. The Tom Cruise-starrer was the highest-grossing film of 2022 and was even nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Powell’s role as an arrogant yet principled Navy pilot received positive responses from fans and critics alike.
Though Powell portrayed Hangman to perfection, that was not the first role he auditioned for. The actor reportedly first hoped to star as Rooster, the role that eventually went to Miles Teller. However, after being rejected from the role and not being impressed with Hangman on the page, Powell was convinced by Cruise to take the character.

At the start of Cryptmaster, you’ll preside over four former heroes—now zombies—who are prodded along by their eponymous resurrector. Of course, having rotted for so long, they’ve lost all their abilities and memories, and this first-person dungeon crawler’s entire conceit is wrapped around you needing to help them literally fill the blanks in their memories by typing out the unfinished words that hover beside their avatars. Each time you kill an enemy or solve a riddle, you’ll pick up one or more letters as loot, revealing them in your currently equipped words like a game of Hangman. It’s a novel way to nod to text-based adventures of old, but after a few hours into this 10-ish-hour adventure, it grows T_R_SOM_.

Few things are as scary as nuns, draped in their signature black garb, dishing out vengeance and striking terror into the hearts of all. We’ve seen this eerie trope in films like The Nun, The Crucifixion, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter, among others. Yet, Sister Death sets itself apart from its contemporaries by delivering a narrative that doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares.
In this movie, it’s not the typical ghosts, spirits, or statues crying blood that are the primary sources of your fear. Instead, it’s the backstory that connects them all, leaving you with goosebumps. Sister Death, Paco Plaza’s latest film, is a feast for the eyes, especially for those who appreciate a horror film that strikes a perfect balance between a gripping narrative and spine-tingling scares. He understands that true horror lies not in the fleeting shocks but in the lingering sense of unease...

Stephen Colbert was back with a vengeance Monday on “The Late Show” after missing most of last week with Covid.
What Colbert missed he seemed to make up for right off the bat, going in on Rep. Jim Jordan’s failed bid for the U.S. House speakership.
“I’m feeling good partly because I’m back on my feet but mostly because Jim Jordan will not be speaker of the House,” Colbert cracked in his monologue, setting up a fresh round of gags at the Republican congressman’s expense.
“At this point, Jordan might have to go back to his previous job at the Museum of Natural History,” Colbert said, before “The Late Show” cut to an image perhaps photoshopped but perhaps not.
In it, Jordan is seen standing in what appears to be a museum display case between a Cro-Magnon man and woman, who stood tall and featured distinct chins,...

"It only ends when he wins." Vertical has revealed an official trailer for the horror thriller movie called All Fun & Games, marking the feature directorial debut of two filmmakers: Eren Celeboglu & Ari Costa. It was produced by the Russo Brothers' company Agbo, though they sold it to Vertical for a junk release without much hoopla. Doesn't seem that exciting. Agbo presents a terrifying tale about a group of Salem teens who discover a cursed knife that unleashes an evil demon that forces them to play gruesome, deadly versions of childhood games where there can be no winners, only survivors. "There’s an element of cruelty embedded in every kids game - think Flashlight Tag, Hangman, Simon Says - but what if that cruelty was taken too far?" All Fun & Games stars Natalia Dyer, Asa Butterfield, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Laurel Marsden, with Annabeth Gish and Keith David. This seems...

You know the saying: "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." It's something parents used to tell us when we were kids and roughhoused too hard, but in the context of the upcoming horror thriller "All Fun and Games," the adage sounds more like a promise than a warning. The film follows a group of teens whose night of fun turns very high stakes when a demon gets involved, forcing them to play life-or-death versions of the kids' games that many of us love. Fan-favorite actors like Natalia Dyer and Asa Butterfield are among the cast, and the Russo brothers' production company is on board.

Val Kilmer is back as Iceman in the newest trailer for Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” and apparently, he’s the reason Maverick is becoming a teacher.
In the new footage, we meet the latest crop of the Navy’s top pilots, and according to one them, “Everyone here is the best there is.” So, naturally, they’re a bit cocky as they wonder who their new teacher is. Enter: Tom Cruise.
As we’ve learned in previous trailers, Maverick’s reputation precedes him. But Jon Hamm’s Cyclone wants to make one thing very clear: that reputation isn’t what got him the job.
“You are here at the request of Admiral Kazansky, aka Iceman,” he says coldly, as the footage gives a quick shot of present day Kilmer. “He seems to think that you have something left to offer the Navy. What that is, I can’t imagine.

Time is running out to stream films like “Lincoln,” “The Fisher King” and “He Got Game” on HBO Max. Below is the complete list of everything leaving HBO and HBO Max in January 2022, which includes some classic “Planet of the Apes” films, Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning “Argo” and 1988’s “Married to the Mob,” among others. Most of these titles leave the streaming service on Jan. 31, but departing HBO and HBO Max on Jan. 20 is a behind-the-scenes look at Guillermo del Toro’s new film “Nightmare Alley,” which is exclusively in theaters now.
If you’re looking for noteworthy titles to add to your watchlist before they depart, “Lincoln” is one of Steven Spielberg’s best, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” is a handsome and nail-biting spy thriller and “The Fisher King” is a great two-hander with Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams.
Check out the full list of what’s leaving HBO Max in January 2022 below.

Match #1: Thunder Rosa def. Kaia McKenna
My Thoughts: Kaia McKenna was seriously no match for Thunder Rosa here. What little offense McKenna got in looked weak compared to the absolutely vicious attacks Rosa laid in on her. This one started out like most Rosa YouTube matches – opponent gets some offense in etc., but quickly switched into a absolute squash match.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: Gunn Club def.

Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

But beyond “The Suicide Squad,” film fans will find a copious amount of features on HBO Max in August 2021, including a new Hugh Jackman movie, plus classic ‘90s favorites like “Basic Instinct,” “The Birdcage,” “The Fugitive,” “Deep Cover,” “Malcolm X,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.”
Ahead, every new movie and series coming to HBO Max in August 2021, plus the top titles leaving the service before September 1.

Welcome to this review of All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing pay per view…. Yes, I stayed up until 5am to watch the show in the UK and have re-watched again (thanks to Fite TV replays) yesterday. Why? Because it was one of my most anticipated PPV’s of the year! Did it live up to my hype or did it disappoint? Read on to find out!
Match #1: Serena Deeb def. Riho The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
The crowd at Daily’s Place was fired up, and so were Deeb and Riho! Serena went for a quick cover, but Riho bridged up out of it. Riho offered a handshake out of a sign of respect, but Deeb answered with a slap to Riho’s jaw! Riho returned fired but Deeb rocked Riho with a series of uppercuts. Riho used her quickness and jumped off the top...

Welcome to this weeks episode of Aew Dark: Elevation, Aew’s third “programme” of wrestling (but not the extra TV programme we’re still due on TNT apparently) that so far hasn’t done much to elevate it (pun intended) apart from its namesake on Tuesday nights… Though given the recent set of releases elsewhere, Aew made need this extra show to fit in all the new wrestlers they’ll likely pick up!
Match #1: Hangman Page def. Spencer Slade
My Thoughts: A squash if ever I saw one, this at lest gave us more of Spencer Slade, who last week was the butt of a joke about the headgear from the Aew commentary team but who, this week, I learned wears the headgear because he’s deaf. Remarkable that Slade has found a way to do what he loves; honestly inspiring Imho.
My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Britt Baker def.

The eerie backwoods journey begins when Wrong Turn arrives on Blu-ray (plus Digital) and DVD February 23 from Lionsgate. Backwoods terror and never-jangling suspense meet when Jen (Charlotte Vega) and a group of friends set out to hike the Appalachian Trail. Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course—and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. Welcome to this week’s All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the go-home show for All Out right here, right now. I’ve got a date with Betunia Maschado, the resident sociopath of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and that woman doesn’t like it when I’m late. Therefore, with great sadness, I leave this review in the hands of “Smart” Mark D. Mark…
Greetings you worthless pukes! Marcus DeMarcus Marcus, or “Smart” Mark D. Mark to you, is here to review the new cock in the hen house itself, Aew. Nathan says he is going on a date, but he’s really going to cry over how pathetic he’s become since his mom died. I kid! I kid! Nathan is too pathetic to know how to cry. Welcome to this week’s All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have more from Tony Khan’s weekly drug trip. Also, there are a shit-load of perverts who have been allegedly revealed, including Jim Cornette & Synn, Dave Lagana, Jordan Devlin & numerous others in Nxt UK and David Starr (along with Alberto Del Rio a few months back and Jay Lethal numerous times over the years). The stories are horrifying and include male and female victims. If you are reading this and have ever been abused, don’t hold that sh*t in. Say that sh*t so everybody can see it and it can’t be hidden anymore. Every time someone gets away with a crime, that leaves them available to hurt more people. Hell, if anyone ever felt like I had ever done anything to them, I’d want them...

Every day that we’re all stuck inside is another day we all hope for new content to stream on our service of choice. Luckily for us, Netflix has been doing a great job of keeping everyone satisfied with substantial drops all throughout the pandemic, and although we lost some great stuff at the end of April, May is shaping up to be yet another excellent month for the streamer. As a matter of fact, the platform is adding a few new things that you might want to check out today.
Most notably, the Michelle Obama biographical documentary, Becoming, arrived on Netflix this morning. The film follows the former First Lady on her tour promoting her memoir – also called Becoming – which details her experiences as a child all the way through her time in the White House. The book is a deeply personal and affecting story, and the documentary looks...

Welcome to this week’s All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and this show sucks. I’m kidding, but Aew does have problems. Often, this show will just feel like a less-insulting version of Raw. There’s too much sports-entertainment going on in this pro wrestling league. After a lateral press, Marq Quen covered Page for a one-count.

Match #1: Ariya Daivari def. Raul Mendoza The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After joining forces with Tony Nese for a tag team match against Raul Mendoza and Nxt Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush last week, Ariya Daivari set his sights on Mendoza in singles action. As a WWE 205 Live original, The Persian Lion has a territorial attitude toward the purple brand and wants to teach respect to newcomers like Mendoza. Daivari Dinero started the contest with the advantage, but the speed and in-ring awareness of Mendoza led to a great deal of frustration for Daivari. Mendoza maintained pressure, diving through the ropes and torpedoing his opponent on the outside. After pushing Mendoza off the top rope to the outside, Daivari...

The long-awaited battle between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley will finally go down in the next All Elite Wrestling PPV.
So far All Elite Wrestling has put together four different PPVs partially for the sake of keeping their name on the tongues of viewers. With their new TV show starting in early October, Aew will finally be able to build on the happenings of their weekly show and not just previous Aew PPVs and a handful of YouTube videos. Their next PPV is Aew Full Gear. It’s actually an in-joke from the YouTube series Being the Elite, where “Hangman” Adam Page would have a tendency to wear full wrestling gear wherever he’d go. It just so happens that it sounds cool enough out of context, so why not.

Aew crowned its first champion tonight. Who held up the gold when the smoke cleared? We have the results.
With only a couple months until All Elite Wrestling starts airing on TNT, they’re gearing up for one of their bigger shows with Aew All Out. This is the one year anniversary follow-up to All In, the indie party PPV that Cody and the Young Bucks put together back in 2018. Since establishing Aew, the promotion did a huge introduction show in Double or Nothing, then two lesser shows in Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen. Now they’re building towards what will apparently be one of their four big annual PPVs.
One of the reasons why it's so big? We’ll finally have ourselves an Aew World Champion via this show.

All Elite Wrestling is the true x-factor of wrestling in 2019. The brainchild of Tony Khan, Cody Rhodes, Brandi Rhodes, the Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega, the promotion will soon be getting its own prime time slot on TNT. The first official show for the promotion will be the PPV event Aew Double or Nothing.
Of course, the September PPV All In deserves mention for being the prototype for Aew. Cody and the rest put together a big four-hour PPV with one-hour pre-show that brought in big names from the indies, as well as showcasing people from Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and even Impact. The show was a massive success and now they’re moving forward.
The future will show how everything pans out,...

Cannes — Hong Kong’s Star Alliance Movies has pounced on all rights to China on “Blast,” a race against the clock thriller that marks the first full production from Wide, Loic Magneron’s Paris-based sales-production-distribution company.
The deal, made against a background of slowing sales to China, represents the first pre-sale on “Blast,” which is now in post-production.
Billed as an “electrifying thriller” “with an amazing cast and credits” – the film is lensed, for instance, by Luc Besson cinematographer Thierry Arbogast -“Blast” turns on a young mother, Sonia, a bomb disposal expert just back from a mission in the Ukraine, trapped in her car with son and the daughter of her boyfriend Fred, who is left outside, powerless to deal with the situation. Colleagues Igor and Camille, hurry to the scene. With Sonia and Fred have 30 minutes to diffuse the bomb and work out who could behind the attack.
