Vanity project
Gonnabe201516 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The rich and wealthy trying hard to prove -most likely to themselves- that their love is the real thing. Super childish ridiculous script. The characters and the dialogue is out of a Smurfs movie. Actingwise... JLo has only acted twice in her entire life. This isn't the third. Twenty million dollars to say that Ben Affleck is your other half is just twenty million more than what it should cost. Love don't cost a thing anyone? Super mediocre performances from the celebrities and influencers, including fake wannabe gurus. If it wasn't so ridiculous to a degree which makes it funny, I would have rated it one star only.

This is only for real hardcore fans. Waste of money and time.

Wow. New Low for J-Lo
imseeg16 February 2024
This is suppose to be a "movie"? Really?

The bad: let's get things straight. This is nothing more but a one hour compilation of video clips glued to together by some incomprehensible storyline which I wont even attempt to make sense of.

Dont get me wrong, if you are an avid J-lo fan, go right ahead and enjoy the several songs and you probably wont mind the chitchat scenes in between the videos that supposedly elevates this product to a "movie".

But if you are not a diehard J-lo fan, better stay far away from this videoclip compilatioin, because that is what it truly is. Nothing more, nothing less than a bunch of fancy looking music video clips.

At an endnote: I truly do appreciate Jennifer Lopez as an actress. She has proven herself to be a really solid actress. But this is not a movie. This is not even a music documentary. This is a music video compilation dresssed up as ....????

I'm so sorry. This is abysmal.
and_shove_it_up_your_butt23 February 2024
What was she thinking? The creative direction is scattered and everything about this is contrived and over the top for no reason. There's nothing wrong (imo) with entertainers making artistic works like this one but it falls flat in this case. The visuals are stunning so that's a plus but it's not enough to make this widely likeable or a huge success. To the films credit, it could have gotten much, much better towards the middle/end but I had to tap out after about 25 minutes. It's one note/boring even with all of the glitz and glam. I will give her kudos for going for it and trying something new. But even all the cameos couldn't lift this heavy rock.

One last thing - WE KNOW THAT IT'S NOT A MOVIE. Stop thinking that those of us that don't care for it are mad because we thought it was a typical movie. We know that it isn't and we can still not like this project. As deep as she wanted this to be, it's not.

Lastly (I promise): Jennifer. Sweetie. You are not in your 20's or 30's anymore as much as you would like to be. Age with grace, please. It is laughable that you continue to push this narrative that you are young. You aren't and that is perfectly ok. You can be in your 50's, 60's and 70's and be sexy, fun, and REAL. Step into that and stop playing yourself.

I'm embarrassed for her
leigh-0074527 February 2024
Where to even start? Admittedly I'm not a JLo fan, but I wasn't rooting against her either, or at least I wasn't until seeing this. I was in awe, in the worst possible way. I cannot fathom the level of ego and cognitive dissonance required to believe that not only was the world waiting with baited breath to see a feature film that details your love life, but that it's wise to spend 20 million of your own dollars producing it. I don't begrudge her her success in life or in work, but her self-obsession is unreal. This movie is what happens when a woman who never hears "NO", has money to burn, and has every whim catered to runs amok. What happened to humility? And yes, I know the 1% are free to spend their money however they like, but instead of using 20 million dollars to, I don't know, build tens of thousands of wells to provide drinking water, or sending hundreds kids through college, or honestly literally ANYTHING else, you use it to give the world the most insane vanity project they never asked for. Ick. She's officially the w.

Who cares.
nvidutenko18 April 2024
I was looking for a fork to pinch my eyes out. What was that? She might have been a good audio artist in the early 2000's but who is interested now? When it's time to go it's time to go. Chop chop pumpkin. I don't find anything that has been done in the past 10 years interesting or worth my time. I think it stopped for me with "waiting for tonight" and "the cell" She does look good now but remember the team of endless people that make it happen. I was one of them. Time to go or re-invent yourself or become a resident in Vegas like everyone that is looking to park your wig and still shake some.

Waste of time/Self-focused
mdxbhcvm24 March 2024
I was looking forward to this documentary because I read her book when it first came out and I liked it. I think this documentary should have explain why she does not allowed workers to look at her. Why she makes her manors work 16 hours 7 days a week and why she took money from the waitress after Ben Affleck gave a good tip to the worker. I thought this film was going to be about empowerment of women still growing through difficulty but it was more about trying to find sympathy for herself. Which in that case she should have explained why she miss treat the staff and her back up dancers. OMG.

Love story for herself about herself
ZukoFilms23 March 2024
Another Jlo doc/movie cringe fest. If Yaoundé had any doubts of whether or not JLo was a raging narcissist then look no further. Not sure why I watched other than morbid curiosity after reading about how bad it was. And yep! It's bad. This multi millionaire for over 3 decades is now trying a new angle... to make the audience feel sorry for her somehow?? Didn't get enough love as a child yards yards yadda. And that her mother is actually a narcissist. Welp. Clearly she has no problem throwing people under the bus if it serves her. She has always talked about how supportive and great her mother is but now it's suddenly "poor me". There is a scene where she "sings" about being broken and it is soooooooo bad. I had to turn it off at that point because it was borderline creepy. These celebs are so out of touch and self obsessed. I'm over it.

CRINGE-FEST
sony-0089625 March 2024
Scrolling through Prime for something to watch and came across "This Is Me... Now: A Love Story by J-Lo. I went in with an open mind; not having read any reviews, so had no preconceptions.

It started off OK, pretty visuals, but I quickly realised (within the first 10 minutes or so) that this was some cringe-worthy, self-indulgent, vanity project (thank goodness for the fast forward button!!!)

I did press 'play' at regular intervals to see if (by some miracle) things had improved, but no... my time & intellect was wasting away with each passing minute!!!! ...Dramatic? Nope; it really was THAT bad!!! In addition, I felt nothing but second-hand embarrassment for her as she danced her way through each mind-numbing scene (not to mention the God-awful soundtrack!)

I mean, who actually advised her that this project was a good thing to do? ...must have been the same people who advised Beyonce that her "Black Is King" garbage was a good idea 🙄

If I had to describe this 'film' in 3 words, it would be: Egotistical. Tedious. Cringe-worthy.

A new (J) Low.
watchitwombat24 February 2024
There's no denying the magnetic energy of JLo's music or her mega babe status. But as to what fresh madness this film is, I have no bloody clue. Best guess is that it's a string of music videos linked together by random celebrity cameos and cringey dialogue. I'm sure audiences will vibe the glitz, glamour and hypnotic dancing, which is ridiculously extravagant. I don't believe this film requires much of your attention, I used it as background music while I cleaned the dining room. Thankfully it's only an hour long, so if you vibe JLo and her music then watching it won't be a waste of your time.

Give more respect to JLo - she is multi talented
claudineharper17 February 2024
This is in some form what Daft Punk's Interstella5555 did with Discovery. It's a great idea to make a film of music videos from an album. It means her songs are visual and have meaning. I grew up in the golden era of music videos so I love this idea.

And JLo did it well. So much so I rewatched the first song again, and I would rewatch it all just to experience it again. It stays with me and I listen to the album differently now.

It's starts really strong with a Doctor Who-like-visual of a petal factory breaking down, the song is brilliant and the action really cool. It made my hair stand on end. The film ends really sweet with JLo finally happy with herself, dancing to a homage of Singin' in the Rain, one of my favourite films of all time.

In the middle are other funny, self-deprecating, heartfelt, visually stunning dances and songs and interludes, showing how she just wants love and didn't realise she had to love herself first. Trivial, cliché, trite it maybe but it is a simple musical on her thinking of her love life. To be honest, in the era of over-thinking, too much info, and socio-political topics, this is really refreshing to just enjoy music and dance and have it be about something simple.

Not sure why people are so angry at JLo making something about her experiences/ feelings, when she's an actor (she's not the best actress but she's acceptable completely) , a dancer, and a singer (yes she can sing - listen to other singers from around the world, not just massive rarities like Mariah Carey powerhouse voice, JLo can still sing). Of course, if she can, she would. She would want to express this most personal album using her 3 talents. Not sure why everyone is surprised or angry. Why can't she express herself through a musical?

I have been a fan of the golden era classic musicals since I was a child, fan of Streisand, and I can say this has more heart and brilliance than LaLaLand. I have been a fan of JLo from the start, drifting off a little since the 2010s, dipping back in to check out what she's doing, so I am not even a hardcore fan.

I don't find JLo pretentious actually, even if she sells loads of her own brand, shows off her body a lot (but if you've got it...)I think she's passionate, she wears her heart on her sleeve, she's ambitious, fearless and brave. This is all this is. Totally JLo. And if anyone is surprised or disappointed then they clearly don't know JLo (and i don't mean personally) but they also don't know music.

Only 1/2 ⭐
themuss_au20 February 2024
My 1/2 star rating must've got rounded up I guess. Look, I know she used to have a little and now she has a lot and she's still Jenny from the block, yes, yes but.... what the actual is this???? The whole show is a rambling mess. It's how like how I am this sentence constructing that I am just here did. See what I actually did there? I made up an incoherent sentence to describe just how much jibberish the viewer needs to put up with watching this. Now imagine if I have punctuated that last sentence with singing and dancing. You'll also have to imagine what this show could have been if Jenny had also punctuated it with singing and dancing.

I've chosen the 'no spoilers' option to round this out. I honestly couldn't give away a spoiler if I tried - there's nothing in this show that I understood.

HEAR ME OUT
leonaustenla27 February 2024
Even as someone who isn't on the JLo fan wave, I must confess: her latest musical venture captured my heart in a uniquely campy and utterly crazy way! Let me be clear-it's not a case of "it's so bad, it's good." Far from it. This musical is a non-stop entertainment rollercoaster, perfectly blending the light-hearted with the more serious. JLo is hilariously lost, bringing a refreshing self-awareness without skimping on addressing the deeper currents running through her life.

And if that wasn't enough to hook you, my man Neil deGrasse Tyson's cameo as a zodiac sign is nothing short of a scene-stealing, cosmic 11/10 experience. 😂😂😂

In an era where skepticism often takes center stage, I urge you to leap off the bandwagon and give this thing a shot. With just a bit over an hour of runtime, it's a compact yet entertaining package of joy that promises-and delivers-a much-needed escape into enjoyment.

I also stand corrected on my take on JLo. Beyond her sassy and talented persona lies a hopelessly lost romance ADDICT, a revelation that adds depth to her already character. Here's to her finding the happiness she deserves and continuing to evolve.

Oh, and let's not forget-the cinematography? Absolutely stunning.

Watch for 20 minutes
ecospider526 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The first couple scenes make no sense because it is a very different story telling technique. Once you understand the imagery it starts making sense and is a really fun movie.

They should have started with a psychiatrist appointment so you knew what they were trying to show in the first couple scenes. A relationship that crashed and burned and broke her hart so bad she needed love from others to have any love at all.

The. Zodiac council is great. Using famous people removed the need to do any background incase you don't already know the Zodiac signs. Leo was definitely perfectly cast.......................

Bless Her Heart...
notadum18 February 2024
Bless her heart, the second-hand embarrassment while watching this is just painful. I just couldn't watch it-other than snippets here and through after fast-forwarding through most of it. I can't imagine how hard it must be to find oneself again after the level of fame Jennifer has achieved and I'm sure it must feel impossible for her people (friends, agents, publicists, etc) to face Jennifer and tell her something is a bad idea. But if they loved her-REALLY loved her-they would've shot this idea down quickly and tell her it's time to act humble and with grace and to find a way to plant her feet firmly back on the ground. And she may actually enjoy it-it's really great down here.

Never thought I'd have to join IMDB😂
mercedeslive18 March 2024
I'm sorry Jlo. I took a 3mins out of my day to say, this movie is not it. The movie was just too all over the place. The musical is not necessary. This would be better as simply a movie without the singing. I was extremely confused with the metal heart and dancing.

I kinda understand the documentary a little bit. I do find your story very enjoyable but the film was confusing and scattered. I got to learn more about Jlo but this was a terrible film. Whoever directed it. I'm just shocked they actually aired this😂.

I can tell this was a unique creative vision. But the vision is not visioning. Whoever allowed this to be released should be ashamed.

Rich people are such narcissists
gikamigena23 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
She put all that money and work in a movie that's promoting all the songs from her new album. Some would say innovative, I would say insanse. All these famous people who agreed to be a part of this movie are equally bad. Especially disappointed in Post Malone.... The worst was Keke Palmer's character though...wow. The most stereotypical black woman character I've seen in years. I thought we left that ish back in the early 2000s. None of the songs were even catchy enough to make me want to go listen to the album. Also they won't let you post here unless you write 600 words lmao. Got me writing a whole essay over this wanna be musical. Start donating to the block instead, Jenny.

kelseybjorndalen9 March 2024
This movie felt like a fever dream. It is an hour I will never get back. I'd rather spend my time having the flu because this movie made me feel ill. The songs were so long. The ratio of songs to content was wild...there was no story. I have no idea how so many big names signed up for this. J Lo is beautiful, obviously. But whoever loves her should have put a stop to this over indulgent super long music video. Good luck getting through it. Take an Advil in advance. The rain dance song at the end was a hilarious highlight. I love a B movie to have a few laughs, this movie only made me uncomfortable. The zombie style heart beat dancing is a vibe, but not my vibe. It's alot.

1 star is too much for this
scorpiomrb23 February 2024
Oh my God could anyone be more starved for attention ALL OF THE TIME! The man was married with a family, she just can't keep anything private. And why is every man in her movies so much younger than her? This movie sucked, she's annoying & exhausting. No wonder Ben A looks exhausted & miserable all the time. This is not a love story, this just an excuse to try to keep her name in the news. Reunited, big deal. Don't even think about the other family in this stupid movie saying you were in love the whole time, that's BS. Jennifer Lopez never puts another woman's feelings into any consideration. 2 wedding ceremonies with Ben A is not enough, you have to make a horrible movie with men who are half your age, so desperate? You're over 50 and had other marriages. Wow. This woman is absolutely exhausting.

How self-absorbed can you be?
MinderSuikers29 March 2024
I don't even know, how to start.

This is the most pretentious BS I've ever seen.

It seems totally clear that JLo did this in a total attack of vanity, drunk on her own magnificence, encouraged by her beau - or was he forced to be involved?

There is absolutely nothing going on beside her singing lame pop songs and trying to be passed off for 30.

Even her friends here are only around <30, and she is also "acting" like a twenty-something. She is a beautiful, gorgeous woman - even without all that filters - where is the point of this?

I felt second hand embarrassing for that successful grown up woman that seems to depend on staying 30 forever.

The Plot is as thick as a phrase in a poetry album/friendship book, and an insult to intelligence.

There is not one scene without her in the whole "movie", even in the credits her face is next to the names of everyone! By the way: What drew Jane Fonda into this crap?

If there would have been a tiny bit of self-irony, there would be hope. But this project's whole nature is doggedness, vanity...and despair.

Give the woman some credit please!
ekl1129 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the documentary first because I've seen all the TikToks of people making fun of it and I thought "what the heck I'll see how unhinged she is". I'm not a JLo superfan nor hater. I like some of her music and she looks dang good to be twice my age. However, in the documentary, I actually felt sad for her. It still seems she is struggling to find that peace she seeks in men, attention from fans, etc. Like Ben mentioned. I will say I commend her for putting her own money into the movie, even when she knew it could turn out to be a total flop. I think it shows how passionate she was about it. At least in the documentary, it seemed she was very hands on in the decision-making and treated her employees and fellow actors well. She worked very hard on the project. The movie itself wasn't terrible. If you don't like musicals, then you won't like this. I hadn't listened to the album before watching and it actually has some bops on it. The movie is NOT about her going from man to man to man. It's about her figuring out who she really needed to love was herself and then still hoping for that one true love in the end. I think we can all relate to that. I don't think this was a project to inflate her ego, but I do think she still feels she has something to prove, just like when she was a little girl, and that's why she fought so hard to get this movie out. Can we all just remember that celebrities are humans too at the end of the day and not rip them apart all the time?! They need kind words too just like anybody else. If you don't like it, then just move on and don't watch it!

A Pointless Vanity Project
plurlife198931 March 2024
Imagine spending $20M of YOUR OWN MONEY (cuz JLo produced this garbage herself) to let the world know you FINALLY found love at age 52 after about 20 try & fails. The only redeeming quality about this film is the CGI, but there's no other redeeming qualities about this (I hesitate to even call this a) film. WE GET IT JEN, you lost your BF 20 yrs ago and now you're back together, but it's not like you were sitting at home alone for 20 yrs waiting for him to come back home to you. You've been married multiple times & had kids & had a great career & AMAZING LIFE before you reunited with Ben, so this star-crossed lover "movie" means nothing. Please don't produce your own movies anymore.

We Love To Build Women Up... To Tear Them Down.
rvjphotos29 February 2024
Let's start with the obvious, if you are not a fan of J-Lo, a fan of her music, her acting, her personal life, a fan of pop music in general.... YOU WILL NOT ENJOY THIS or anything that's "popular".... All the negative reviews on here are tied to an idea the reviewer already had of Jennifer, "I want to like her but she makes it so hard, such an ego on her, needs to stop thinking she's better than us, still can't sing." All these statements prove you didn't care for her going into it and as much as we would all love to win our haters over, it's generally not possible.

I'm not a diehard fan, I would fail any type of trivia quiz involving questions of her... regardless of what I feel her talent level is she has made a name for herself which is more than anybody complaining about her has. The feature she just released is not for anyone with a closed mind, it's not a "movie" in the traditional sense, it's not a music video as we've seen done... You may criticize that it's an ego trip about her and all her relationships but at its core it's about the one thing that everyone wants and ties us together.... Love. Strung together by the music from her newest album, think Mamma Mia to ABBA. To be so torn up over this woman's work says more about you than her.

Owning her history...unnecessarily but in a BIG way
Louisekimble20 February 2024
I wouldn't consider myself a Jennifer super fan but I have to admit that I have mad respect for how hard she works. She is often doing a tv show, an album, dancing her heart out and at the same time raising her kids and being in a relationship. Honestly I don't know where she finds the time. But during all those hours of working she's been looking for that perfect someone to share the fruits of her labors. There's not many women out there that don't feel that, including me. Finding that person and talking yourself into others is a common occurrence with all of us.

Everyone knows she's beautiful & talented. So it's fun to watch her because you have to admit just looking at her is nice. I'm the same age so I totally understand her need to own up to her past and kind of explain her history with men. I wish I could. I don't have people constantly reporting on my life though and discussing it without my input.

So for whatever reason she did this long video, it's not a movie, she did it with style. She showcases her talents, includes her friends and recognizes the fact that everyone can use a little therapy from time to time. I think she's very likely feeling that she is with the one she's supposed to be with and wants to let go of the past in a big way.

The dancing is fabulous with some new moves I haven't seen before, the story was predictable but cute, her music was beautiful, especially Broken Like Me and the visuals were really just over the top fantastic. I would love to see her really let go in her music. It always seems over produced. I know she has a voice. She just needs to belt out a few and see what it feels like.

I turned this on so I could see what it was out of curiosity and I ended up watching the whole thing. Anyone that rates it really low is understandably envious of her talent, money & fame. Is it a bit narcissistic? Yes. But people whose lives are all about entertaining us, have to be narcissistic to a point. So finally, for whatever reasons she did this, she has worked hard enough to be able to have her moment to explain herself because obviously she feels misunderstood. If folks don't appreciate that or don't feel like she's earned this bit of your time, don't watch. But then don't be vicious & mean either. I'm happy for her & Ben. And thankful for all the hours of entertainment I've gotten from both of them.

Its a disaster!
karolinabsaad8 March 2024
I spent the entire movie skipping all the drama and Bollywood songs... which made me finish watching in 15 mins 🤣. I expected much more with so many famous actors and artists. Not worth it. Maybe teenagers would have enjoyed this movie. Definitely not for adults. Lol. There is no story even that makes any sense. Hardluck J. Lo. Less songs more acting would have worked out better i believe. This movies is added to my list of worst movies watched ever next to The Tusk and Where is Sam 🤣🤣. I need to write six hundred characters but am out of words to express may fifteen minutes of time wasted. Goodluck.

LOL. Seriously?
jennyboyd-5575317 February 2024
This "Movie" is nothing more than one long FACETUNED Commercial for the "Mediocre at Best" J Lo.

J Lo's long history has shown that her only talent is her insatiable ambition and willingness to use anyone and do anything it takes who can elevate her status. She has always surrounded herself with people who provide the smoke and mirrors to camouflage her mediocrity.

Her ongoing campaign to spin her dog-eat-dog history into something inspirational made the audience LOL in multiple scenes. This latest vanity project is another in a long line of attempts to create an image of substance...where there is none.
