Billy Morrison — the longtime rhythm guitarist in Billy Idol’s band and former bassist for The Cult — has announced a new solo album featuring a who’s who of rock luminaries. The LP, titled The Morrison Project, boasts appearances by Idol, Ozzy Osbourne, Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), and more.
Among the other guests on the album, due April 19th, are guitarist John 5 (Mötley Crüe), drummer Tommy Clufetos, rapper Darryl “Dmc” McDaniels (Run-dmc), singer Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), and more.
Morrison co-wrote and recorded most of the songs with drummer Erik Eldenius (Billy Idol) and bassist Jeordie White, with a few of the guest performers sharing writing credits, as well.
The first single, “Drowning,” which doesn’t feature any of the guest musicians, will arrive on February 23rd.

Guitarist Kiko Loureiro left Megadeth for good in late 2023 after an extended leave of absence from the band. But before he departed, Loureiro suggested another ex-Megadeth axeman to take his place: Marty Friedman.
Friedman famously played guitar in Megadeth during the 1990s, contributing his virtuosic guitarwork to two of the band’s most beloved albums, 1990’s Rust in Peace and 1992’s Countdown to Extinction, among other LPs.
The pairing of Dave Mustaine and Friedman pairing stands as one the greatest twin-guitar attacks in heavy metal history, and some fans thought Loureiro’s initial absence from the band — temporary at first (he sat out multiple tours) — was the perfect time to bring Friedman back into the fold.
Apparently, Loureiro had the same idea.
“Actually, I even mentioned to management and Dave that I thought bringing Marty Friedman back would be amazing,” Loureiro told Guitar World in a new interview.

Megadeth were joined onstage by former lead guitarist Marty Friedman for the first time in 23 years during the band’s February 27th concert at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
Tens songs into the set, a video montage played showing footage of Friedman, before frontman Dave Mustaine introduced his former bandmate to the stage during the opening to “Countdown to Extinction”: “Ladies and gentleman, please welcome my good friend and lead guitar player, Marty Friedman.”
Mustaine, Friedman, and current lead player Kiko Loureiro then formed a triple-axe attack, barreling through Friedman-era staples “Countdown to Extinction,” “Tornado of Souls,” and “Symphony of Destruction.” As if no time had passed, Friedman was a seamless fit in Megadeth’s current lineup, unleashing the many riffs and solos he originally wrote for those songs.
A particularly poignant moment occurred during the extended instrumental section of “Tornado of Souls” — often considered Friedman’s finest achievement with Megadeth.

Warning: contains major Utopia spoilers
With newly invented characters and a whole new world wrapped around bad guys/pragmatic planet savers The Harvest (the US version of The Network), Gillian Flynn’s Utopia makes considerable changes to the Channel 4 original. It’s faithful though, in most of the ways that matter – Jessica Hyde, the unforgettable Arby, Wilson Wilson and more are all kept intact, just transplanted from London to Chicago. There’s some very close translation of a few memorable scenes, as well as a good amount of invention. Flynn rewrites the backstory to weave in new setting ‘Home’, and new players, chief of which are John Cusack‘s Dr. Kevin Christie and Rainn Wilson’s Dr. Michael Stearns (the latter a sort-of combination of the original’s Michael Dugdale and scientist Donaldson).

It’s only polite, when you’ve borrowed an idea, to acknowledge its originator. Amazon Prime’s blackly comic conspiracy thriller remake Utopia does that by giving an executive producer credit to Dennis Kelly, the creator of the original UK series. Kelly recently told Den of Geek that though the remake had his blessing and best wishes, his involvement in the US series had been nil. As is often the case, his executive producer credit was a courtesy.
Another little courtesy is paid at around 04:30 in the remake’s second episode. A gang of comic book fans who’ve been speaking online for months meet up in person at a Chicago convention. They start drinking, and retire to the nearby home of one of their members, paranoid fringe culture survivalist Wilson Wilson (played by Desmin Borges). Naturally, he invites them down to his nuclear bunker and shows them an...

A strange virus is causing fatalities throughout Middle America. A group of folks who’ve been chatting online for some time think there’s some bigger, deep-state conspiracy behind it all; they’ve found a series of documents that they believe possess clues as to the nefarious forces behind not just this pandemic, but a host of other so-called “natural disasters” and catastrophes. Meanwhile, protesters are storming the streets and demanding answers, while a rich, morally suspect authority figure — and his equally dubious adult son — promise a miracle vaccine any minute now.

In the absence of trustworthy institutions and the constant simmering resentment pulsing through politics and culture alike, the concept of some vast conspiracy tying all the disparate threads together must be, in its own twisted way, a comfort. When life feels particularly scattered, and faith in brighter days has dimmed, the idea that there are definitive answers out there just waiting to be discovered — no matter how wild they are — is all too tempting as an escape hatch from reality. But in Gillian Flynn’s “Utopia,” the conspiracy theorists are the ones living in reality. Everyone else just trying to go about their lives is just biding their time before the cataclysmic end.
Thrillers have long gone to the story well of the truth hiding in plain sight, but Amazon Prime’s “Utopia” makes it plainer still. After a disturbing comic called “Dystopia” appeared to anticipate several devastating pandemics, from...

A cult graphic novel seems to hold clues about viruses and other catastrophes that threaten to annihilate humankind. Fancy that as an eerie dose of entertainment in the time of pandemic.

Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn writes and executive-produces eight episodes of the nihilistic action drama Utopia, based on the cult British conspiracy thriller series of the same name that launched in 2013. While the core of the original is retained, this new American recreation is predictably more formulaic in its bid to connect with a wider audience.
A woman cleaning her late grandfather's house finds the hand-drawn draft of a graphic novel. The pages, it turns out, are an unpublished manuscript of Utopia, a sequel to a bestseller named Dystopia that was published six years ago, but the author strangely never released a follow-up. Knowing that Dystopia has a fiercely loyal fan following,...

Dave Mustaine will release a new book detailing the making of one of the group’s high water marks, their 1990 album, Rust in Peace. The volume, which Mustaine titled Building the Perfect Beast and co-wrote with Joel Selvin, is due out September 8th, according to its publisher, Hachette Books.
A synopsis for the book promises tales of “alcohol, drugs, sex, money, power, property, prestige, the lies the band was told by the industry-and the lies they told each other,” according to Loudwire. It chronicles how Mustaine put together a new Megadeth lineup for that album,...

Although Megadeth had hoped to record the follow-up to their 2016 album Dystopia this year, frontman Dave Mustaine’s cancer diagnosis sidelined their progress. But despite the medical setback, the singer-guitarist is promising to release a handful of new tracks ahead of the band’s winter European tour.
Before Megadeth paused work on the LP, Mustaine tells Rolling Stone that they had composed “nine really crushing songs.” They presented those to their management, and Mustaine was pleased when various people who worked with them all picked the same three tracks to release.

Exclusive: We hear Bet Networks is developing Sister Code, a one-hour family legal drama from writer Gregg McBride (A Heavenly Christmas) and Intrepid, the Emmy-winning banner of Blair Underwood and Tommy Morgan Jr.’s (Bridge to Nowhere).
Created by McBride, Sister Code focuses on the intense rivalry between two sisters, both high-powered lawyers, who are competing for managing partner of their father’s law firm. Their clash not only challenges their already difficult relationship and familial bonds but also the high-stakes cases they and their fellow female attorneys handle.
McBride executive produces with Intrepid’s Underwood and Morgan.
Intrepid recently won a Daytime Emmy for Give, its unscripted children’s series on NBC and a Clio for the Vr experience Dystopia, which Underwood also directed. The company also produced Bridge to Nowhere, its first feature film and Underwood’s feature directing debut.

Megadeth has canceled the majority of their upcoming tour following singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine’s throat cancer diagnosis.
“I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I’ve faced obstacles before,” Mustaine, 57, wrote on the hard rock band’s website Monday. “I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.
“Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. Megadeth will be back on the road Asap,” he continued.

Happy 2018, dear readers! With a new year comes a new batch of home entertainment releases, even if we only have a relatively quiet week of titles to look forward to. Scream Factory is kicking off 2018 right with their Collector’s Edition of Hell Night, and Umberto Lenzi’s Seven Blood Stained Orchids is getting a brand new Blu as well. If you missed it last fall, The Houses October Built 2 comes home this week, and cult film fans should keep an eye out for Miss Zombie from Redemption Films, too.
Other January 2nd releases include Bigfoot Country, Dystopia, Anna, Death Island Paranormal Retribution, No Solicitors, and The Body Tree.

Imagine a dystopic world in which children haven't been born in 25 years. It's total chaos. With no one left to inherit the earth, the surviving humans have pretty much run the planet into the ground. It's in this world that the new 10 episode series "Dystopia" unfolds.
The series, with British director Paul Tanter behind the camera, stars Michael Copon and Sheena Colette as a pair of scientists who "stumble upon time travel and the opportunity to change their fate, but all is not certain as changes they make in the past have unforeseen life threatening consequences in their future." Basically, it's Children of Men with time travel.
