In addition to being expert songwriters, The Beatles also had a strong b.s. detector. They wrote nearly two dozen No. 1 hits in the United States but also walked away from music they knew wouldn’t perform well. John Lennon and Paul McCartney gave up on a song that turned into a modest success for an American singer.

Once they developed their songwriting skills, Paul and John opened floodgates that proved hard to close. They gifted a hit song to The Rolling Stones, but they didn’t stop there.

It’s hardly a stretch to say The Beatles dominated the 1960s, especially from 1963 onward. Their energetic debut album, Please Please Me, bowled over young English music fans. The United States finally caught up nearly a year later with the Fab Four’s historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The fact that The Beatles had 71 songs land in the top 100 of the Billboard singles chart is as impressive as their 20 No. 1 hits.

The Beatles‘ cheesiest songs tended to be about love. At least the band knew how to change it up a bit most of the time. Thankfully, they grew out of writing about love all the time halfway through the 1960s. Here is a list of 10 of The Beatles’ cheesiest love songs.
The Beatles | Mirrorpix/Getty Images 10. ‘Misery’
“Misery” is one of The Beatles’ most miserable songs but is also one of their cheesiest. It’s an almost too-depressing breakup song where the speaker is talking about losing the love of their life. The corniest lyric in the tune is: “Send her back to me/ ‘Cause everyone can see/ Without her, I will be/ In misery.”
9. ‘P.S. I Love You’
The cheese in “P.S. I Love You” is in the title. The lyrics in the opening verse are so gooey that they get stuck in our teeth: “As I write this letter,...

John Lennon insulted The Rolling Stones’ “We Love You.” In addition, he said The Rolling Stones’ Their Satanic Majesties Request as a carbon copy of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. His opinions were too narrow-minded.
The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger | Evening Standard / Stringer John Lennon said The Rolling Stones’ ‘We Love You’ was a rip-off of ‘All You Need Is Love’
The Beatles wrote a lot about love. They gave us “Love Me Do,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “She Loves You,” “All You Need Is Love,” “She Loves You,” “All My Loving,” “And I Love Her,” and “Love You To.” They also wrote numerous other songs that focus on love without having “love” in the title.
The Rolling Stones wrote great love songs but they were less focused on the concept than The Beatles. For example, they only had one hit in the 1960s with the word “love...

Choosing the best Beatles songs might be a challenge, especially if you’re a uber-loyal fan who loves their whole catalog. However you feel about the Fab Four and their music, some songs are essential. They epitomize the group’s greatness and are so good that they make us wish they were still together.

Several Beatles’ songs reached No. 1 during their career. Fans loved many of their tunes, but sometimes the band members didn’t. John Lennon hated several Fab Four songs, even some that he wrote. The Beatles’ worked hard on one unreleased song they didn’t like and it still hit No. 1 — for someone else.

Despite how much you like The Beatles, you can’t deny they have some annoying songs in their catalog. Everyone has their least-favorite tunes, but it doesn’t mean you love them less. The Fab Four are still one of the most influential rock ‘n’ roll bands in music, but even they made some tunes that grate on one’s nerves.
The Beatles | Jiji Press/Getty Images 10. ‘Love Me Do’
We understand that “Love Me Do” is known for being The Beatles’ first charting song. However, there’s just something about it that gets on our nerves. It’s possibly the harmonica and the repetitive lyrics. The song doesn’t have much substance, but it has a catchy melody, which is likely the only thing that helped it get on the charts. It was a reasonable effort from the band, but we’d rather listen to other songs in The Beatles’ catalog.

It’s impossible to count the number of artists influenced by The Beatles in some way. The Beatles were a revolutionary band and continue to impact future generations. Billy Joel is an incredible singer-songwriter, but his life could have gone in a different direction if he hadn’t watched a famous performance by The Beatles.

The Beatles‘ darkest love songs are interesting for a couple of reasons. While the Fab Four knew how to write romantic tunes like “All My Loving” and “She Loves You,” they also knew how to make darker, moodier love songs. They knew what it felt like to have all-consuming love, but they also knew of the dangers, insecurities, and fears that it could bring. Here are the 10 darkest Beatles songs that describe that.
The Beatles | Mirrorpix/Getty Images 10. ‘Chains’
The Beatles’ “Chains” is one of their darkest love songs because it speaks about the mental chains that can wrap around someone in a relationship. The speaker admits their lover has them in metaphorical chains, and they’re not opposed to them. Despite the person being willing to be bound, it’s still dark and possessive.

John Lennon wasn’t afraid to publicly bash Beatles songs, no matter if he or Paul McCartney wrote them. The two were a dynamic songwriting duo, but Lennon sometimes called out McCartney’s Beatles songs he felt were weak. However, Lennon praised several of McCartney’s songs, showing he appreciated his songwriting partner.

The Beatles‘ Rubber Soul is one of the most beloved classic rock albums of all time. It’s often considered the band’s most extensive foray into folk-rock music. Despite this, some of the great songs on the album aren’t folk songs.

The Beatles gave us a lot of songs about love, including “All You Need Is Love,” “Love Me Do,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Love You To,” And I Love Her,” “Real Love,” “She Loves You,” and “All My Loving,” just to name a few. “The Word” is another meditation on the subject, but it stands out because of those chic 1960s guitars. The Beatles always strived to do something new in all their songs. That’s what made them so unique and innovative. However, for this list, here are 10 of the best Beatles songs where they incorporated something cutting edge.

“All My Loving” might not seem like a song where The Beatles tried something new, but it is. It’s an ordinary love song, but Paul McCartney said John Lennon’s last-minute addition made it magical. The rhythm guitarist added the fast strumming that sounds like the engine of a train or tires on a bridge. The speaker dreams about coming home to their love, and John’s strumming embodies that. Even in their early days, The Beatles came up with interesting ways to express their lyrics through music.

Paul McCartney thinks John Lennon‘s harmonica riff helped give The Beatles‘ “Love Me Do” a “terrific sense of longing” that “touches the soul.” It’s simple yet powerful. That wasn’t the only time one of them added something magical to the other’s songs.

The creepiest Beatles love songs might surprise some. On first listen, some of them seem like ordinary love songs. However, when you read the lyrics, the message is creepy or just downright bizarre.
Sometimes love makes people think and do horrible things. The Beatles wanted to warn people about that. Having a love that’s depicted in songs like “All My Loving” and “She Loves You” is great, but there’s always a dark side to love, like what’s portrayed in songs like “Run For Your Life” and “You Like Me Too Much.”
The Beatles | Mirrorpix/Getty Images 11. ‘Please Please Me’
While “Please Please Me” is considered one of the best love songs, it’s also one of the creepiest Beatles love songs. Something is unsettling about the lyrics: “Last night I said these words to my girl/ I know you never even try girl.” The person urges his love to please him.

The Beatles wrote some of the most famous love songs ever. They were masters of romantic tunes and devised new ways of telling love stories. Some are about someone loving another. Others are more vulnerable and aching for affection. Here are 10 of the best Beatles love songs.
The Beatles | Keystone-France/Getty Images 1. ‘Ask Me Why’
The lyrics of “Ask Me Why” are so incredibly romantic. In the song, one person is singing to another about how glad they are that they found love together. The person is even moved to tears. There will be no more sadness because the other person loves them. John Lennon sings, “Now you’re mine, my happiness still makes me cry/ And in time, you’ll understand the reason why/ If I cry, it’s not because I’m sad/ But you’re the only love that I’ve ever had.”

Considering how many songs they recorded over eight years, The Beatles miraculously avoided writing too many duds. Paul McCartney once said it was still a mystery to him that the band formed at all. What isn’t a mystery is the Fab Four’s impact on popular music in the 1960s and beyond. There were plenty of hits, but several boring Beatles songs found their way onto the band’s albums (presented in chronological order).

Paul McCartney called The Beatles‘ 1963 tour with Roy Orbison a “historic moment.” It was the “Pretty Woman” singer’s first tour of the U.K. and The Beatles’ third. The Fab Four had yet to conquer the U.S., but it was safe to say they’d already taken their country by storm, so much so that they became co-headliners with Orbison, originally the headlining act.
However, there was no competition between The Beatles and Orbison. They inspired each other.

Considered one of the greatest war novels of all time, perhaps no story told the horrors of war greater than “All Quiet On The Western Front,” a novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I, published in 1928. Soon after, Lewis Milestone directed his own movie based on the book in 1930, another early classic. But it seems like this tale is ripe for a modern retelling, and that’s precisely what director Edward Berger has done for Netflix.

The film, starring Daniel Brühl in a leading role, is set to be one of Germany’s biggest productions ever. The cameras will begin to roll on Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front in March 2021. The project, set to be one of Germany’s most expensive productions to date, follows the Wolfsburg-born director’s recent efforts, namely the drama All My Loving and the TV series Patrick Melrose and Your Honor. Daniel Brühl, attached to the project as one of the leading actors, will also serve as executive producer. The script, penned by former Washington Post journalist Ian Stokell and producer and actor Lesley Paterson, is based on the World War I novel of the same name, written by Erich Maria Remarque and published in 1929. All Quiet on the Western Front was previously adapted by Lewis Milestone in a 1930 feature and by...
