Cast Away (2000)
Way below expectations *Spoilers*
I seen this movie when I was in the US the other day, I was expecting a decent movie and I felt as if I walked away with nothing. I admit the island survival side of this movie was interesting,**WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!!** but once he was rescued from the island the movie just fell apart it had nothing going for it once he was off, it could have made an interesting story but it ended up being usual hollywood drivel. Still it wasn't the worst movie i've seen in recent times but if you want a good movie to see over the holiday season then skip this one and go see original pieces like Traffic or Finding Forrester. I rate this 4.5/10
Now and Again (1999)
What a terrific show
This show was amazing, its the best program to come out in a long while, I just can't understand why it was cancelled. That final episode had me begging for more. I think it was fairly popular over here in Australia because it was on 2 nights a week. It had great story lines, I just hope to god somehow they can bring it back. I think it was produced by CBS over in the states but i'm not sure. I just can't see how they can cancel such an amazing show over other programs like JAG and that trash they called Survivor, that was garbage. I'm glad survivor failed in Australia. But Now and Again was original and had a great cast and left you wanting more. Such a shame to see such a terrific program gone. An extremely solid, 10/10
Snatch (2000)
One of the best for 2000
I had been waiting to see this movie for so long, finally came to Oz this past weekend. While it did start out a little slow, it turned into one of the best movies I have seen in a long while. It was so funny, I couldn't get enough of it, this is definately a worthy follow up from Lock Stock (which still remains his best). I can't wait for the DVD so I can watch it all the time like I do with Lock Stock. A definite 10/10 from me.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)
They Melvined me.......
I love this movie, as well as the previous one, it makes me laugh every time, the Reaper is one awesome character, I can't wait for a DVD version of these films, its such a fun movie, not much else to say except it simply rocks. 8/10
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
I hate it
I must be one of the only people who actually doesn't like this movie. My main hate is Jodie Foster, she can't act never known how to, and she always comes off as annoying, i got past her in Taxi Driver because that is a brillant film, the sequel to Lambs will be even worse even without Jodie. My favorite thriller is still Se7en it was much better executed and it has one of the best endings in cinema. i give this 1/10
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)
I love this movie
I love all Nightmare movies except for the overrated New Nightmare. I guess that one was ok, but I love this movie, cool deaths aplenty. It also has one of the best lines Kincaid says "i'll see you in hell" then freddy says "tell em Freddy sent you" that line rocks...My fav is actually number 3, I have changed my mind over the last couple of months after seeing them again on DVD. Hail to the best horror figure ever. 10/10
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Best Horror Around
Although the first is the best, I love the rest of the series, I finally got the DVD Box Set, and it's awesome no better box set around. Nightmare was the only movie as a child that I was actually scared of, truly original. So many people critisise the rest of the series, I guess you have to be a real fan to like them all. 10/10
Fight Club (1999)
My all time favorite movie
This is one superb movie, I didn't get to see it at the movies because I wasn't 18 at the time (damn Australia), so I read the book and was so impressed I preordered the DVD, this movie is terrific, people whine how the movie goes down hill when Tyler comes into the picture. I have no idea why people think this, he has the best view on life. Ed Norton gives us another terrific performance, he has always been my favorite actor. Fincher demonstrates once again what a terrific and innovative director he is, his last two movies The Game and Seven were superb (I still think Seven probably has the best ending to a movie). People always critisise this movie for its violence, if some people look a bit deeper and actually watch the movie properly then they will see that this is one hell of a movie. Easily my all time favorite movie. A definite 10/10
End of Days (1999)
This is an absolutely terrible movie
I was expecting End of Days to be a decent movie, what could have been an interesting movie turned into a typical action flick which has Arnie using lots of guns. Gabrielle was the only thing that saved this from total trash. 1/4 of the way through this movie I felt like leaving because at this point it was slow paced and had your typical chase/gunfight scenes. 2/10 (because of Gabrielle)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Probably the best film ever created
This is indeed the best movie I have ever seen. I don't know how people actually hate it. It's a totally original movie, its got everything from violence to extreme profanity. this in my opinion gets a 10/10 for sure.
Alfred Packer: The Musical (1993)
Cannibilsm and Singing - What a unique combination
I only recently seen this movie (it was on TV over here) and I thought it was very funny. I've never really been a fan of South Park so I was a bit skeptical before I started watching it. But the opening scene was so hilarious I was glued. Trey Parker is absolutely great, he done just about everything in this movie including the funny songs throughout the musical.
People who don't like gore should steer clear, although their isn't a lot of violence when it occurs its very gruesome but in a funny way.
The opening scene is most memorable as is a scene with Sticks, Picks, and a Meat Cleaver. I give this 8/10
Voltron: Defender of the Universe (1984)
The best cartoon i've ever seen
When I was a child during the 80's this was easily my favorite show (along with Inspector Gadget), I think everyone around had the toys as well. This show really shows quality children's TV. You look at the shows now and you think "how could they?". Children's TV in the mid to late 90's has became poorer and poorer. Being a child in the 80's was full of great cartoons like Gadget and Transformers. But now children are stuck with Power Rangers (ick), they have even gone into this 3D garbage like Beast Wars and i think Voltron 3d (why wreck classics?). Voltron (originals) is an easy 10/10 as far as children's TV goes. I still watch the occasional episode on tape.
Transformers (1984)
Probably the best cartoon
I actually said in another review that Voltron was probably the best cartoon, but when I think about it I probably did like Tranformers better. It has some mad characters, it was playing in the mornings not long ago, I watched it occaisonally but as a child I wouldn't miss an episode. I remember playing around with the toys like Optimus and Megatron (i still have them somewhere). I didn't like watching many other cartoons though it was mainly Transformers, Voltron, and Inspector Gadget, I was never a fan of the cartoon G.I Joe (although I had a heap of toys). I can't remember when they used to play the cartoon of G.I Joe?
Anyway Transformers gets 10/10 because it made my child it just that wee bit brighter.
Blade (1998)
What a great action-vampire movie
I'm normally not a fan of the action genre, but this is one cool movie. It's so straight forward and easy to understand, it captures your eyes with its great SFX, and Stephen Dorff plays his character really well, i've always been a fan of him. As for Wesley Snipes, it's quite a surprise he actually does a decent job. Remember people its a comic book and not to be taken so serious. 8/10
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Tragic addition to a tragic series
I don't know how the Bond series continues. This is by far the worst of all, I admit even the other Bond movies are terrible - you can actually bear to watch them, but Tommorow Never Dies is taking it to far. I don't know how they get funding to make so many of them. This movie takes up the same formula as many Bond movies - One man tries to have world domination, he has many weak henchmen, then he has his one tough henchman who is so strong and can take multiple stab wounds and punches to the head. It's a disgrace to make movies like this. I have no clue as to how the series continues. 0.5/10
Scream (1996)
A funny yet suspensful film from the master himself
I really enjoyed this movie, when I first seen it at the cinema people were jumping and being generally - scared, while me and some others found it quite amusing. When I walked out you hear people saying how scary it was, I was thinking - you do get a few cheap scares but most is funny. That's why I like this movie, heaps of people like this better than the sequel (which I think is 10 times better). Overall a great film from the master Wes Craven. 8/10
Clerks (1994)
This is a marvellous film
This is one of the greatest films i've ever seen. It is definately the best in Smith's Jersey Trilogy followed by Chasing Amy.
Clerks is one of those movies you can watch over and over and not get bored, its funny every time. It's got some great insight's into life. I can't give enough wraps to this movie, Kevin Smith is the master, can't wait until Dogma. 10/10
Die Hard (1988)
Best action movie.....by far
This takes the top as the best action movie ever made. I'm normally not a big fan of Bruce Willis but there is no denying that he basically "rules" in this movie. Its got intense action sequences and some absolutely terrific stunts.
It's not overly violent but has plenty of shoot-ups and fighting scenes. I suppose the bloodiest scene is with some nice pieces of glass. It has some great wise cracks from Bruce which make the film that little bit more entertaining. But Reginald VelJohnson is the main downfall, I can't stand his acting and his dialogue, but this is only a minor point and doesn't wreck the movie at all. Easily the best action flick ever. 9.5/10
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
What a film
There isn't much I can really say about this movie, but I love it. It has to be one of my all time favorites, it's really funny. I thought Alan Ruck was great as the wussy friend of Matthew Broderick. Overall a great movie to watch over and over again. 9/10.
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Great movie, if you love exploding vampires:)
The first time I seen this movie I thought it was great, had violence, gore, sharp dialogue and Salma. I've watched this movie a countless number of times, I think its great if you don't feel like thinking to hard, its very straight forward and easy to follow. After I have seen it a couple of times I just jump straight to the part where they enter the bar (unless I feel like watching the whole thing). Also watch out for Cheech Marin, he has a very funny scene in front of the bar. 8/10
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Brillance by Kubrick once again
This is easily my favourite war movie, i've always been a fan of Stanley Kubrick's work. The first half of this movie is so incredibly powerful that the second half looks like it can't keep the brilliance up. I admit that it does let down in the second half but its still great to watch. Its by no means terrible in the second half just not as good as the first. The humour is great and adds just that little piece of extra brilliance. 9.5/10
Universal Soldier (1992)
Please help us God
No words can really explain this movie excepted for REALLY SHOCKING, there is no acting involved, a very weak story, the only good thing about the movie is that it successfully puts you to sleep from 100mins of boredem
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Probably the best film ever created
This is indeed the best movie I have ever seen. I don't know how people actually hate it. It's a totally original movie, its got everything from violence to extreme profanity. this in my opinion gets a 10/10 for sure.
