Oppenheimer (2023)
Cinematic delight
Oppenheimer is a cinematic delight.
The cinematography, the acting, the haunting background track are all world class.
It is, however, the basic element of the movie, the inner turmoil of the father of the atomic bomb; that keeps the viewers spellbound for three long hours. Cilian Murphy in his role as "the most important man of in the history of the world" is absolutely sensational. Especially the scene where he addresses his colleagues after the successful test! Such movies are important to understand the precarious situation the world is in, due to the arms race. What an absolutely amazing cinema!
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (2022)
IMDb should allow zero ratings too
My review is in the title. Such a shoddy story, screenplay and direction. The actors' incompetence is matched only by a general disregard for viewers' intelligence.
RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) (2022)
Welcome to Casteist India
India is a complex society that has always focused on casteism. This movie propagates casteism. Such fantasy movies deserve to be trashed. Tribals should not be seen as subservient to so called upper caste janeu-wearing Hindus. Shame on Alia Bhatt for taking up this role.
Fargo: Waiting for Dutch (2015)
Best series ever - Season 2 of Fargo
There is nothing like it in the last decade.
Very engrossing storyline and rich characters make this particular season an absolute gem.
Patrick Wilson leads the cast of characters, each one better than the other!
Perry Mason (2020)
Engrossing
This is an atmospheric thriller.
If you love film noir, LA or good old detective story, this is for you.
Matthew Rhys is just exceptional as Perry Mason. I've been his fan since The Americans. Having lived in LA for 6 years, this is especially close to my heart.
Leila (2019)
Not Against any Religion but fascists!
A dystopian view of a society ruled by fascist forces which use religion as a tool to oppress. Good choice for a subject but the direction and acting is below par.
Game of Thrones (2011)
A fantasy that was more real than reality
I just watched the last episode of Game of Thrones and writing this review almost because I have to.
To be honest when I watched the first episode, I barely finished it and never saw another episode again until Season 3. Then, something clicked for me and I was transported to Westeros. For 6 years, I have been a citizen of Westeros awaiting the coming of the rightful King/Queen. Now that the journey is over, a void will take over. The wait will start again. It feels that winter will come again.
Dev.D (2009)
Dev D - 10 on 10
Hi Anurag, Here are few things I want to say after having watched this movie on big screen last night... 1. The movie is truly world class. Please take it to every film festival in the world. I am the biggest movie fan I have ever known and I bow before you on this bravura attempt. India needs more directors like you. 2. Dev D's soul reverberates in every youth of today. Unlike the novel and like the youth of today, our "Dev D" is also perched between 'Desi' mind and 'Ultra-Mod' lifestyles and struggles on a daily and nightly basis. 3. Danny Boyle's suggestions have been optimally used. The journey of the Coke-infested DevD's mind is visual treat. As a movie fan, I feel the camera work and positioning sets the tone and gives 3-D like experience. 4.I want to share more of my thoughts with you, including some story lines which I think only you can put on the screen.
Mahabharat (1988)
Awe-Inspiring Series
There never was ,is or will be anything greater than BR Chopra's Mahabharata on Indian TV ..... As Mahabharata is the king of epics, this TV series is the KING of TV SERIES. All credit goes to splendid production value,out-of-the-world dialogs (by Dr. Raza........may his soul rest in peace), superb acting, great action and a very 'real'casting. Every character has played his /her part so well that we can' imagine anyone else playing them now.... . Incidentally ,Mahabharata is the longest epic in the world 4 times longer than 'Odyssey'.It is supposed to have been written by Lord Ganesha and dictated by Ved Vyasa. Its historical proofs are scattered all over northern India.
Girl, Interrupted (1999)
Girl Interrupted flows uninterrupted!
Beautiful movie! one day i was thinking about making a movie in which mentally challenged people make a team and create synergy ...a few days later i happened to watch girl interrupted..it was similar to an extent to what i dreamed! Winona Ryder oozes warmth and shows why she is among the talented actress of her generation. i feel Winona Ryder has been under-utilized as an actor.Angelina Jolie gives her best performance till date and she can again do it if she gets a role where she doesn't overplay her sexuality. Performances by other actors is also commendable. The movie is enjoyable and scores heavily on the performances by the actors.
Ghulami (1985)
It's based on a true story
Ghulami is one of my most favorite Hindi movies. The movie scores heavily on many points.Firstly,it has some soul stirring music and lilting lyrics by gulzaar. Interestingly, this debut movie of JP Dutta is based on true life incidents. The land tillers -'jats' have traditionally been marginalized in Rajasthan. They were oppressed severely and discriminated against by the rajputs-the landholders in old times. In British India, there comes a reference of a dacoit in rajasthan who was supposedly inspired by the book 'mother' by maxim gorky. This fact has been depicted in this movie. The movie is a forerunner of present day movies like 'lagaan'.
