The Legend of Crick Foot (2024)
Can you make a fun movie for no money? Yes!
This is a mockumentary about a specific type of cryptid who has a few quirks regarding hotdogs, grape cigars, and cheap beer. Many self recorded video submissions from talented folks along with a wraparound piece from a local investigator is the general idea. I love the humor employed to arrange the barely related video submissions with connecting narration to achieve a remarkably coherent story. The jokes hit well. The edit was competent. Stock footage was artfully used as well. I was more shocked to learn the creator (Bone Jawnson) had never made a film of this type before. Super well done! Completely worth your time!
Attack of the Killer Chickens: The Movie (2022)
Angry birds and high libidos
I enjoyed the intentional schlockiness of this movie. The chicken puppets were fun. The effects and acting were appropriate for the b movie vibe. I laughed hard at the chicken sex-ed news broadcast. There was an uncomfortable amount of chicken-human relations. I lost the plot by the end but honestly I think that was also intentional. There was blood and gore. There was horny people making out at the weirdest times which also added to the humor and charm. Overall I think this was a charming film that knew what it wanted to be. The jokes came across reasonably well. I think it's a fun tongue in cheek homage to a b horror movie.
Bloody Summer Camp (2021)
A fun take on an 80's camp slasher
If you like 80's camp slashers, comedy, cringeworthy blood and guts, then this movie is something you should see. I literally covered my own crotch during one scene. This has some good writing, a couple of powerhouse cameos, and a wonderful cast with chemistry. Check it out!
Rose Blood: A Friday the 13th Fan Film (2021)
This one is good for multiple viewings
I have to admit that I missed several Easter eggs on my first viewing. This was written by a true F13 fan as it pays homage to several films in the series and skillfully uses those references to create a unique storyline. I'm super impressed with the story and the Herculean effort to film it in 8 days. The soundtrack is killer and the effects are fantastic. It's a must see for fans.
Voorhees Night of the Beast (2021)
Fan films have save Friday the 13th
My favorite thing about fan films is they are made by folks who care about paying homage to the original movie series and tell a story firmly planted at a specific part of the timeline. This one is great! It's a fresh idea that is a lot of fun. Easter eggs are plentiful if you're a true horror nerd. Well worth a watch or five.
