State of Grace (2001)
A wonderful show
I wrote this in another forum while the show was still on.. Sadly, my prediction came true.
This is a sweet, gentle show, that is hard to find...you never know when it is going to be on... It tells the story of two young girls in a Catholic school in the South back in the Sixties... Hannah is Jewish and newly transplanted from the North when her parents relocate their small furniture manufacturing company there...she is shy and not adventurous, until she meets the irrepressible Grace. Grace on the other hand, is a free spirit, being raised by her rich scatty mother.
She leads Hannah on many new adventures...the stories are told with affection without being overly sweet. And the girls are adorable...two of the cutest faces on TV...and never a one liner out of either of them. It's a story of a friendship of girls from wildly different backgrounds...Hannah from a close knit extended family and Grace from a home where she is loved but with few rules. This show will just fade away for no other reason than neglect and that's a pity.
Dogpound Shuffle (1975)
Thought i was the only one who ever saw this
I saw this movie on late night local tv when i was about 12. And ever since have asked people about it but nobody ever heard of it. Literally no one...I began to think maybe i dreamt it.
It was sad and funny and left you with a good feeling about love and friendship. I would highly recommend this to everyone. Don't remember anything that a child shouldn't see in it...the beating was ugly but we see that all the time. So the whole family could watch it.
The Cowboy and the Movie Star (1998)
Almost missed this one.
I almost didn't watch this movie because of the "one *" given it in the newspaper, but I couldn't find the remote easily and so let it happen. And am glad I did.
This is a very good romantic movie with two strong attractive characters. It never gets too sweet and we see how a woman we might think has everything really has little to fulfill her. She finds herself happiest under very rough conditions where her efforts mean something.
Brannan faces the loss of his family legacy that has been his life's work because of a bad choice he made; and he faces it like a man.
It also proves that a movie can show the developing love and respect of a man and a woman without having them jump into bed. It has exciting, tense moments and you can watch this with your parents or grandparents and not be embarrassed. Love this film. Gave it an 8.
