The Departed (2006)
The Departed
This was an excellent movie, on par with Goodfellow's and better than Casino. The acting was superb and a great cast, though I'm a huge Jack Nicholson fan and he is as magnetic as ever, Martin Sheen was great as well as the two main characters. This movie was Scorsese at his best.
Though you knew from the beginning of the movie who were the good guys and who were the bad guys so there was no major twist or surprise at the end. I would highly recommend any Scorsese movie. I can't believe he never got an Oscar for this or Casino. I don't think there is a director that can do organized gangster crime movies finer. The ending of the movie though was not as good as any of the other Scorsese movies and seemed to be a bit of a cop out. This was made up by superb acting.
Father Ted (1995)
Irish Comedy at it's best!
One of the best things to come out of Ireland since U2 and one of the best sitcoms I've seen. I would highly recommend getting the box set out on DVD as it's pure comic genius.
The series takes place on a disregarded isle off the west of Ireland, where book-cooking priest Ted Crilly has been exiled by the sulfurous Bishop Brennan, to serve out a parochial purgatory in the company of super-thick stooge Father Dougal McGuire and the feral Father Jack Hackett. Extremely funny and witty. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a few laughs!
I would recommend to anyone buying the complete series 1, 2 and 3 as they come out in DVD. You can watch "Father Ted" over and over and still find it hilarious!
Mrs. Brown's Boys (2011)
A good Irish Comedy
I watched clips online as I am based in California and I found this show pretty funny. I am a fan of Brendan O'Carroll and I think he's a funny guy. I also read his books that were adapted into the series.
I love Brendan O'Carroll as Agnes Brown. She is aloud, foul-mouthed Irish matriarch who is always looking out for her family after the death of her husband. Brendan plays the character brilliantly. She works at a fruit and veg stall at Dublin market. She takes great pleasure in making a fool of her neighbor and best friend Winnie. It's not a classic like Father Ted but is entertaining to watch and you are guaranteed to get a few laughs. I would recommend this show. With Mrs Brown's Boys all you get are laughs!
Horrible Bosses (2011)
Really funny Movie
I thought this movie was brilliant and I thought Colin Farrell was hilarious in this movie. The acting was excellent and I would highly recommend going to view this.
The supporting cast is terrific, too. Colin Farrell is brilliant as the coke head pampered son of the owner. Aniston is great at playing the horny sexpot. And even Spacey seems to really be enjoying himself. A fantastic cast of actors. In my opinion it was the funniest movie out in the cinema at the time. It consisted of a series of ridiculous setups to get these three talented comic actors in uncomfortable positions so they can make us laugh.
Your Bad Self (2010)
A bad attempt at comedy
I watched clips of your bad self on YouTube. In my opinion, this show was dreadful, amateurish and not remotely funny. I felt like I was watching paint dry during the few episodes I saw.
RTE said it featured performances from some of the country's best comic actors, but I had never heard of any of them apart form Amy Huberman. On a positive note, I do think Amy Huberman is a very talented actress.
In my opinion, The Savage Eye is a far superior comedy show with much better acting and talent. A pity, as I was hoping to enjoy the online clips. Hopefully, we will get to see a lot more of David McSavage on our screens.
The show consisted of a bad attempt at black comedy that went wrong. Each to their own when it comes to comedy, but I would not recommend this show.
Fawlty Towers (1975)
Pure comic Genius
FAWLTY TOWERS is one of my favourite comedy series of all time. The show stars former Monty Python cast members Connie Booth and John Cleese, Hilarious show and guaranteed to make anyone laugh - love it!
In Basil Fawlty, John Cleese finds the perfect embodiment of his skills as a comedian.
The bulk of the humor in "Fawlty Towers" derives from Basil's interaction with the other characters, his sarcasms and his insultingly pompous manner. His attitude toward almost everyone around him, including the guests in his hotel, you see, is almost unfailing deprecating unless it's somebody he thinks is important, in which case he's groveling to make an impression. Small things lead to bigger things lead to catastrophe. I would highly recommend this show to anyone. Acting is superb.
