From: Lullaby (2023)
Urgh. Annoying.
Let me start by saying I LOVED season 1. It felt like a lower budget version of Lost without the flashbacks (which while I didn't always love in Lost, I think this show could have really used them to flesh out the characters better). Every episode was intriguing, creepy, mysterious, and just fun.
This season started out well enough with the bus full of new people, new developments in what is possibly going on over there, etc... But as the episodes keep coming, they keep getting worse and worse with ep 5 just hitting an all time low in this series. Everyone yelling at Sarah was frustrating as hell. It's like everyone lost their common sense and just completely took all of their anger out on her in such an annoying manner. Did she kill people? Yes. But is she evil? No. Anyone can see she isn't actually evil or a psychopath. The place was just making her do thinks and think it is in the best interest of everyone (which hell, it might have even been right!). Ethan might actually be the villain and him being killed may have actually saved everyone. Who knows. But the better question is... Who cares?
They really need to pick things up, start giving some answers to some things and strengthen those characters more. Without flashbacks to really get a sense of who they were before getting to the town vs who they are now, it's really difficult to gain empathy for any of them or really care about whether they lived or died. Which is a problem in a show that relies on that character development to feel real and interesting.
Almost everyone was acting irrational in this episode and they were all just down right annoying. Every two seconds we see someone else yelling at Sarah and really letting us know how much they hate her. So much to a point of wanting to stick her in a box as weird zombie people food. I would have much rather seen them actually talk to her and try to understand her and why she did what she did.
All that being said, I hope this show picks up by the next episode and that it doesn't get cancelled because it really does have the potential to be great. We saw that first hand through the first season. While this was the worst episode of the season (and the entire series thus far), I still have hope that it will pick up and get back to being great.
Risen (2021)
The sounds! Omg why!
I started this movie without even looking up the reviews or trailer and had to turn it off after 5 minutes. The sound is mixed SO poorly. The speaking voices are so so quiet, you can't even hear them, and then the special fx comes on and nearly blew out my speakers. This is absolutely criminal like someone else mentioned. I'm sorry but I am not gonna watch a movie i can't hear.
Manifest (2018)
Netflix whyyyyy did you not save this show?
I am starting to get so fed up with Netflix not picking up and continuing great interesting shows like Manifest and instead putting on season after season of freaking "Too Hot to Handle". What has our society come to that they prefer to watch a bunch of sex crazed idiots on an island instead of a well thought out drama/sci-fi/thriller show? I am so beyond confused at Netflix's poor choices.
Riddle Room (2016)
Um.... Okay then....
The title sure fits this movie lol. It's all one giant riddle, including the ending which is probably one of the worst endings of any movie I have ever seen. Just before the credits rolled, I didn't know how much longer there is till the end so I had some hope thinking okay now we will see what's going on (trying not to spoil anything). But alas, no. There was absolutely no ending to this film. No resolution whatsoever. The only thing I will give this movie is that it at least explained who and what was going on. But it just feels unfinished. As if the movie cut to the credits half way through. What a disappointment.
I would honestly not recommend anyone watch this film. I can handle quite a lot of horrible movies and some I actually even enjoy. Even with the extremely low budget and mediocre acting, if there would have just been a proper ending I would have given it a 6 and told you guys that you should give it a shot. But there is nothing that irks me more in movies and TV shows than an unfinished product.
Do yourselves a favour and skip this one. There are plenty of similar titles which are way better executed (some suggestions would be Identity and Memento but there are a ton of others worth watching).
Escape Room (2017)
If I could give a 0 I would
Worst movie I have seen in a very long time. How in the world did anyone rate this higher than a 2 (at MOST)???
I am not gonna go over the plot again because, well, there really isn't one. Bunch of f-buddies trapped in an actual escape room for an hour and then start dying for literally no reason. All of that to lead to a crap ending that really wasn't an ending. Nothing explained. Nothing solved. Complete waste of time, money and effort.
The acting was hideous. The puzzles were so stupid and I just hated everything about this movie. Do yourself a favour and skip this one. The other Escape Room movie is way better than this. If you're gonna watch one, choose that one.
The creators of this film should be ashamed of themselves. How can crap movies like this get on to Netflix where I personally know amazing indie directors and film makers who struggle so much, make AMAZING and thought provoking films, and get rejected by Netflix over and over again? Absurd.
Observance (2015)
Tries to be a David Lynch/Hitchcock film but fails miserably.
Just finished this movie and I can't even begin to explain what it was about... I really don't mind obscure films such as the ones Lynch is known for making but this took it too far (in my opinion). While Lynch's movies may be obscure, there is enough info out there that acts as sort of a map legend to his movies due to constant recurring themes (hell and heaven, the devil, death and purgatory, etc). With this movie you get a decent plot at first and then it all just goes no where with a set of random images and events that lead to no where.
Instead of leaving the viewer thinking about the movie for the next few days as they make sense of everything they have just seen, this movie leaves viewers with questions on top of questions, zero answers or even clues to help you understand and just all in all pointlessness. This just makes people frustrated and angry for having had their time wasted...
If this movie was a bit better at explaining itself it would have been quite a good movie. There were many genuinely creepy moments and a good plot. I would not recommend this movie to anyone nor would I ever even think of rewatching it. I would strongly suggest you stay away too.
The Funhouse Massacre (2015)
So much fun!!
How can anyone watch this and not rate it higher than a 7 is beyond me? This movie was absolutely hilarious and has Mr. ENGLUND! You really can't get much better than that from a comedy horror movie. I loved every second of this movie. I want more!!!
You: Just the Tip (2019)
Good but not great
I, unlike a few others I have seen in reviews, do like Love as a character. I like her as an actress too, she was also great in The Haunting of Hill House. I do enjoy the complexity of the characters and how "evil" is not so black and white. It's normally hard to root for a sociopathic and psychopathic character but with this show, I often find myself empathizing with Joe and sometimes even rooting for him.
I do find one thing is true in all of these reviews I am reading. This show is starting to feel very much like it is trying to be Dexter. In this episode specifically, the dinner scene was oddily familiar not only from Dexter's opening theme, but also how Dexter used to kill his victims. If you don't understand what I am saying, watch the episode. You will get it right away.
I am only now finished the second episode of the second season so I can't speak to how the rest of the season will be yet, but this episode specifically was good and kept me watching (and I have pretty bad ADHD) without losing interest once. However, it wasn't amazing. It wasn't brilliant. But I can see how it's just laying the foundation for the rest of the season. Looking forward to seeing what 'You' has in store.
Suits: One Last Con (2019)
Best finale this series could have
Amazing last episode and with that, a most amazing last season. Having Mike come back for a few episodes, having Donna and Harvey finally together (and not just in the last episode as a cop out), watching Louis turn into the man he always was inside, all the rest of the firm coming together as family for the entire season was absolutely Ace.
The final few minutes of the last episode was so good I was in tears. The nostalgia and emotional roller coaster was so perfectly executed. I love this show so much but I kind of forgot how great it really is until this final episode when I was reminded of the long journey we have all been on together with Mike and Harvey and everyone else. 10 thumbs up!
Jacob's Ladder (2019)
Horrible horrible mess
Well, thanks for butchering one of my favourite movies of all time.... I thought it might be interesting to see Jacob's Ladder with an updated spin but what these people did to this movie was unforgivable. They completely changed the entire storyline and characters and made what was once an incredible and extremely thought provoking film about the philosophy of life and death and turned it into some half assed movie about a drug for treating PTSD in vets.... I remember watching the original many years ago and talking about it for days after finishing it. DAYS. That's how good that movie was. This one has left my memory before it even really started playing on my tv.
Everyone involved with this film should be extremely ashamed of yourselves. I am actually offended here. Please, please, please, stay away from any other loved cult film.
Outlander (2014)
Worthy of the best binge worthy show award!
I have never read the books written by Diana Gabaldon, but I have now binge watched the entire 4 seasons which are currently on Netflix in less than a weeks time.
I am absolutely in love with everything about this show. From the cinematography, to the costumes, to the writing, to the acting... Absolutely everything in this show is breathtaking. But the thing which keeps me mesmerized are the characters and their deep bonds. Within only a few episodes in the first season, the characters were build so perfectly with so much love and care to every detail, it will make you feel as if they were your very own friends or family members.
I don't want to give anything away as this show is something that you need to go into with a clear mind and just get sucked in. Watch this if you like history, action, drama, comedy but the heart of this show is most definitely the romance between the two main characters. I have never seen a romance in a tv show that was more fleshed out than this. It's a love story and the show never falters from this no matter how convoluted the story may get at some points. Due to this, there are quite a few cheesy moments and many sex scenes which may or may not appease to some people. But other than that, this show is pure perfection.
I know season 5 is going to be released on Feb 2020 and season 6 has already been confirmed but I am hoping with all of my heart and soul that this show continues for a very long time after.
Jesus H Roosevelt Christ, I'm in love.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
First time that a horror anything made me cry like a baby
What an incredible experience this was... At times it was frightening, other times funny, and sometimes so extremely sad. But throughout the entire series, the prime thing house on haunted hill was, was poetic.
I am one of those who watched the original black and white film back when I was a little kid and it mesmerized me back then and I'm so glad that it did so yet again. The original was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen because of how subtle the scares were. No need for gore, or jump scares.
This show really did the original proud I think. I loved it and can't wait to see what they so with the next season.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
Great chilling thriller
Great movie. I see a lot of people here asking about the grocery lady. There is a scene at the end of the movie where Tyler and Kassie are sitting outside of one of the victim's houses and talking and he asks so what should we do now and Kassie says "Nothing. Police won't connect it to Clovehitch. She never saw his face". This is in direct reference to the grocery woman who was attacked. She had a blindfold on and never saw his face. They probably just left her like that.
I didn't mind the ending at all. I can kind of understand why they did what they did. The father and Tyler burned all the evidence and I am assuming Tyler thought this would just ruin his mom and sisters (and his) lives in such a small religious community. They did what they did for his familiys sakes. I don't know if I like the way they ended it... But I can at least see the screenwriter's thought point and I can appreciate it.
Other than that, I found the slow burn of the movie very well done. It was tense and it really made me wonder what I would feel like in Tyler's position. It really drove the point home that a psycho could be anyone, even your Jesus loving, community and family man next door neighbor. In fact, it's much more likely to be him than someone who doesn't have their life together. It's a scary thought.
Assimilate (2019)
Really good!
I am very glad I didn't pay attention to the low reviews here and watched this movie anyhow. It's a very fun teen horror movie. It's not scary (at least not for me) but it's very well done and for a low budget movie, it had a real high budget feel.
So yourself a favour and just watch it and make your own opinion. This movie is an 8 for me.. No idea how anyone can rate this lower than a 6...
Fractured (2019)
Not the best but entertaining and thrilling
So... It's a straight to Netflix movie. I was not expecting some Oscar nominated performances or plotlines. It's October and Halloween is around the corner and I just wanted to snuggle up and watch a decent thriller and I believe this movie accomplished what I was looking for. It was psychological, suspenseful and actually had very great acting by the main character played by Sam Worthington. The rest of the cast was quite forgetable but not terrible by any means.
I don't want to spoil the plot but I will just say that the movie was a lot of fun and it did keep me guessing until the very end so that is definitely an added bonus.
Joker (2019)
Brilliant masterpiece of a film
Best Joker centered film I have ever seen in my life. Everything about this movie was absolute perfection. I can't think of a single reason why I would take off even 1 point from the perfect 10 that this movie deserves. Brilliant!!! I would watch this again and again and again. This will become a cult classic and will be raved about for years to come. Mark my words.
The A List (2018)
This is what you cancelled The OA for???
Oh my God I couldn't even get through the first episode. This show is horrid. The script, the acting, the story.. Everything is just so so so bad. I don't care if Netflix adds a million terrible shows but NOT in the place of actually GOOD shows, like The OA and so many others which were cancelled before their time only to add terrible shows like this or Sabrina or whatever else. I am seriously debating on canceling my Netflix account since as of right now, Crave and Amazon have WAY better original titles. What happened to you, Netflix? This is the start of your demise.
Back with the Ex (2018)
Great reality tv
I usually watch reality tv with my meal or during a time where I don't want to think or feel anxious or something. So much reality TV is terrible these days, especially on Netflix. I watched many such shows on Netflix it always feels like the editing misrepresents the real people on the show. I know in some instances Netflix is actually being sued for that exact thing (for misrepresenting the people on the medical show, Afflicted, and I can definitely see why.
This show however, felt different. I felt like everyone was genuine and who we saw on tv was who they really were in real life (other of course than the reality of the situation which was that there were always cameras present). But I think it did its best to do right by the people.
The different couples were all very unique in their ways and their history and stories. For a first season, I think they did a wonderful job finding such a diverse bunch of couples (only thing that would have been better would have been maybe same sex couples and people of different races but, not a big deal).
Cam and Kate are absolutely adorable together. Cam is a complete sweetheart and it broke my heart for him knowing he was so crushed when he was cheated on. It was quite obvious that Kate knew the mistake she made and regretted it greatly. They didn't go very deep into why she cheated and how their relationship was during that time to lead to that, but I am assuming they talked it all out behind cameras. They seem perfect for eachother and I wish them all the best.
Meg and Jeremy... My oh my lol. Those two are complete loons. That is one toxic relationship if I ever saw one myself. I could tell they both really love eachother but despite what The Beatles say, love is NOT all you need and it truly seems like they would be way better off apart than together.
Peter and Diane... My absolute favorite part of the whole series. Those two are such a fairy tale romance story. After nearly 30 years apart and still having that much passion and love for eachother. It was absolutely beautiful and the end of their story made me cry happy tears. They deserve eachother and deserve to be happy for the rest of their lives together. I was totally rooting for them and so so so happy for them!
Erik and Lauren... Um... Okay so Erik appears as an absolute psychopath. Even his eyes look crazy. Like a madman. I did not feel he was genuine at all during the entire season and while people can change, sociopaths like that usually do not. Especially without serious therapy. He is obsessive and controlling and the way he treated Lauren in the past was manipulative and abusive. I am utterly shocked she gave him this (7th!!) chance but I am sure she had her reasons and at least now she can move forward without ever wondering what if. I am sure she will feel extra great after reading all of these reviews stating how psycho he is. I hope if she ever feels doubt, these reviews will help to reassure her that she made the right choice. Erik, you're seriously creepy and you need help. Seek therapy, please.
All in all, great reality tv show and I really hope they make a second season!
The Handmaid's Tale: Mayday (2019)
Brilliant, touching and heartbreaking but perfect in every way
Wow what a finale. I watched them film a portion of this episode in Cambridge, Ontario and back then I couldn't have anticipated such an amazing ending to this season. Everything was executed brilliantly. I swear (I even took a photo of my Fitbit for proof!) that my heart rate went up to 120 bpm from watching and being so involved in the process of the mission and hoping so much that all of those kids will make it. I kept thinking they have to.. But at the same time, it's Gilead.... No one is ever truly safe in Gilead.
To see all of the Handmaids and Marthas come back to help June.... From that moment until the very end of the episode I was just sobbing like a baby. When the kids arrived in Toronto I was already crying my heart out but to have that little girl run to her daddy, oh my God my heart nearly exploded. Even my dog ran to me to see if I'm ok lol.
This is the best show on television that has ever been made. Not often you see book adaptations being this good... This is something rare and should be cherished and watched by all. It really makes you think that this could be a reality one day. The comparison from events of today to Gilead or even how Gilead started... From comparison in the beginning of the episode to the holocaust and to people being put on trains to concentration camps.. It's amazing how a fictional story could hit SO close to home.
Absolutely flawless and brilliant and I cannot wait to see what happens in season 4!!!
The Handmaid's Tale: Liars (2019)
Best episode yet
I never cheered as much as I have for any tv series in my entire 34 years of existence. Downright the best episode yet. I still have goosebumps all over my body. Just watch it.
Another Life (2019)
Wow... It's bad. Like really really really bad.
Only watched one episode and my God... I can tolerate a whole heap of cheese and low budget crap and still enjoy it if it has a good story and characters but this... This is the biggest pile of tv crap I have seen in a VERY long time. The idea had a lot of potential so it's a great shame but whoever made this show (writer, producer, director and even the damn camera man and editor) need to all take a step back and look for another career... Seriously. I feel offended that these people just wasted almost an hour of my life with this garbage. I couldn't even get through the entire first episode. It was THAT bad.
The ship crew are a bunch of teens straight out of high school who have absolutely no business on such a high importance mission such as this one. The most they should have been put in is a space simulator game.... The dialogue is so horrible and cringy, it will make you want to drill holes in your ear drums or just put the show on mute although that won't solve much as the CGI even sucks lol. So you are better off never even starting this show to begin with. Save yourself!!!
Also, whoever thought it was a good idea to zoom in on characters faces every two minutes is an utter moron and has no business making television shows. Ever!
Only thing I will thank the creators of this show for is making it suck from episode one so I wouldn't waste anymore of my precious time on this piece of crap. If I were Netflix, I would be deeply ashamed to put something like this out and would remove it at once before more people fall into its trap.
Last thing... To Netflix.. You cancelled Altered Carbon FOR THIS??? WHAT IN THR ACTUAL.... $#@&?????
DON'T DO IT PEOPLE! I WARNED YOU!!!
The Handmaid's Tale: Night (2019)
Perfection at its best
Wow. Just wow. Best first episode of any season, of any show, ever. Do you like amusement parks? Get ready for the ride of your life. So many emotions in one episode, I can't even explain them all. From fear to sadness to happiness to anger.. I felt like I was watching a feature film and not one episode of a tv show. Absolutely incredible. I was pretty upset at how last season ended until I saw the trailer for season 3 and then this episode.
Turn down the lights, turn on your television, press play and get ready for perfection on a screen. Burn mother****, burn.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
I chose this over Rupaul's drag race and I am now rethinking my entire existence
This is horrid... What have they done to my beloved NIN song...?? Horrible writing, horrible boring story and definitely did not have that black mirror feel. The other 2 episodes sucked as well but no where near as bad as this... At least they were a bit interesting. Skip this episode and just watch the first 2, if any. Do yourself a favor.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Seriously one of the best things on television right now
*I know I put the spoiler alert tag on but the spoilers I give are very very miniscule so don't be too concerned reading*
This show does everything.. It frightens me, makes me laugh and makes me cry. I can watch blood and gore and any horror movie you put in front of me without any issue but this show I had to fast forward a few parts and close my eyes.
The scariest thing about this show is that it isn't so far out from reality. You can almost taste a future like Gilead taking place in the real world with all of the insanity of human kind. It frightens me to my core. To think maybe one day I wouldn't have the luxury of posting my opinion of art on an online movie database.. To think I would be raped and beat daily and when I speak my mind (because that's just what I do lol) I would be sent to the colonies to die a slow and miserable death. It's all just so surreal yet so REAL at the same time. It's scarier than anything I have ever seen before.
The acting is absolutely superb by the entire cast. Every single person is multidimensional and this show takes you on such a wild ride from liking them to loving them to hating them to wanting to see their head paraded on a stick. To see characters evolve... Strong women who work together to help one another instead of tearing eachother down is extremely emotional. To see women slowly taking back their lives and their dignity even with tiny steps like learning each others real names is something that brought tears to my eyes.
I absolutely cannot wait for the third season!!! I was kind of upset at the end of season 2 with what happened but after seeing the trailer for season 3, it all makes sense and it will all be worth it. Definitely watch this show if you want quality television with an actual message. You won't regret it.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Wow wow wow!
I haven't finished the season yet, only about 5 episodes in but just had to come here to rave about this show! Each episode is only between 5 and 10 minutes or so but each one takes you on a crazy ride which sometimes makes you wish lasted longer just so you can see more of the world.
The art is PHENOMENAL as well as the musical score. The writing is witty, interesting, funny, emotional and just a giant rollercoaster of emotions. Some episodes are funny, some sad and some just messed up and full of adrenaline. I also particularly like how each episode has a different art style. One had real actors, one was all cartoon, another was like a mixture of CGI/cartoons over real video (I think.. It looked way too real to not be... Think waking life for the style!).
Each episode so far seems to have something to do with technology whether it be a futuristic dystopian setting, robots, VR, etc... It all has to do with technology (even if it's sometimes very subtle). I saw another article that stated people are comparing this show to Black Mirror but more intense. I could definitely see where they would get that. It does have the whole black mirror vibe and it is an anthology series.
Definitely give this show a go. Watch a few episodes. If you don't like it after 2 or 3 it probably isn't for you.
