El cuerpo (2012)
Simply genius
I very rarely give 10 points to any movie, but this one deserves it. Perfectly written story with a real ending, flawless acting, amazing cinematography.
Ma (2019)
Extremely weak
I'll be very brief: there is nothing in this movie we haven't seen before in other sub-par horrors/thrillers, all possible and annoying clichés are used here, the story is extremely predictable, the ending is unbelievably cheesy. Don't waste your time with this.
Escape Room (2019)
Pleasant surprise
The movie was a pleasant surprise for me, in the horror genre it is extraordinary in my opinion. The base idea and setting is not the most original, but the story has some unexpected turns in store. Second part is coming, I'm actually excited about it.
Ghostland (2018)
Huge disappointment
I'm extremely disappointed with this movie. The title clearly suggests a story that involves ghosts, doesn't it? Now, that's where you get tricked, because here there is NO ghost or supernatural at all! Instead, what do we have? A run-of-the-mill, unoriginal, subpar plot with all the clichés expected in such movies where someone is kept locked in by some crazy people. In fact, at minute 19 I was surprised about the supposed twist and I was interested what is to come, but once it turned out that all the future scenes are only in Elizabeth's mind, it was not interesting at all anymore. I don't give lower score only because the movie has decent looks and acting.
Shutter Island (2010)
I understand the book at last
So I read the book, and have to say the film is 100% faithful to it, absolutely perfect. But, after finishing the book I had lots of doubts about what exactly happened, I didn't really understand the ending. Now, after watching the movie it became crystal clear.
Teddy was really Andrew Laeddis, and in the scene almost at the end (2:04:00) where he wakes up from the fainting, he really accepts that he is Laeddis and Dr. Cawley wants to help him, but he has no thoughts yet about the lobotomy. However, a few days later in the next scene he is still his real self as Laeddis, but he is already afraid that he will regress again as he always did before. Therefore when talking to Dr. Sheenan and he already decides that he wants to get healed for good and also accepts possible death ("What should be worse? To live as a monster, or die as a good man?"), therefore he pretends to have regressed so that they perform the lobotomy on him - Dr. Sheenan buys this, calls him Teddy after he signals to Dr. Cawley that the lobotomy already is inevitable.
The Butterfly Room (2012)
Insanely bad
This is the first review I write about a film, because I felt I must do it for others to avoid this load of crap. I have seen many really terrible movies, but this tops them all. The only worthwhile thing here is Barbara Steele, plus maybe Ray Wise, but his part is so little that is not even worth mentioning.
Everything in this movie is just absurd and unbelievable, first of all, nobody seems to notice Ann's really wicked look and appearance. WTF?!
All supporting actors a just TERRIBLE, they are seriously overacting, especially Julie's mother and Ann's daughter. Practically almost everything is just laughable, the pinnacle being when Julie finds Alice's pinned body, and Alice's head and hair clearly moves. Jesus, didn't they notice this?!
Watch this only if you really badly want to waste 87 minutes of your life.
Marrowbone (2017)
Highly disappointing
The plot synopsis promised an interesting supernatural horror/thriller, but what do we get instead? The usual let down where the "ghost" turns out to be a very real person, plus a cliché "twist" where the protagonist turns out to be schizophrenic and only imagining his family members to be alive. I hate these movies that trick you like that. 3 points instead of 2only because the imagery was nice.
