It's a Series of Official Bad SNL Sketches
21 September 2023
The humor is very low brow. A lot of people have compared these episodes to bad SNL sketches and I think that is spot on. Of the three episodes that have released thus far I would say this of each of them:

Skin a Cat - the most offensive of the three. The point seems to be that the white cishet human captain can't stop offending people. It's clearly aimed at conservative fans which feels weird considering how progressive Trek has always been. Feels like a slap in the face to the rest of the fans who enjoy seeing a better future for humanity.

Holiday Party - this is the only one I found genuinely funny. I appreciate the dark humor aspect being applied to Spock trying to understand the concept of humor. I didn't love there being an official Star Trek episode with a fart joke in it though.

Worst Contact - this one was just gross. I didn't love the whole thing being like "what if we met aliens and they were just gross" it felt like it was made for the lowest common denominator and was just a shame they used the TNG characters for this since they're my (and many others) favorite characters in all of Trek.

Maybe the last two episodes will be good but I don't have high hopes. If they can be more like Holiday Party without the fart jokes that would be lovely.

It's Ok
16 April 2023
This is largely considered to be one of the worst episodes of Star Trek. I probably would have skipped it based on the rating but my partner and I are trying to make our way through the entire show without skipping any episodes.

I will say, the story is fairly weak and the casting of all black actors for the highly misogynistic race is problematic at best. However, it does have some great character moments that are hard to skip.

It's the first episode where Wesley is allowed to work on the bridge, it's the first time Data tries telling a joke, and first time Picard takes pride in being French.

If you're here for character development you should watch it, but otherwise feel free to skip.
