Here and Now (2018)
What politics? EU-(re)viewer here.
Unique and intriguing, went in with mixed expectations seeing all the mixed reviews. I'm glad I listened to the people that said to watch more than the 1st or 2nd episode. Ended up watching the thing in 1 weekend, which rarely happens.
Gave me the same feeling as The OA, which was odd in a good way.
It's hard to make impressive content. HBO has a lot of different things. While I think Big Little Lies was a major let down and got too much praise imo.. it got a 2nd season fairly quick. Here and Now might not be for everyone, it's certainly for a lot of people. Please continue the story.
Afflicted (2018)
From a 'healthy' persons perspective
First off; lucky to be healthy and not know someone in real life with one of these conditions. It was visually beautiful to look at; this is the first time I viewed a documentary on this topic. Intrigued by the conditions and diseases, the people and their stories. These people give an insight in their hell of a reality. Their positivity and however hard, not give up, is something we can all learn from. I can't imagine being in either one of these people's positions, and their partners, family. Truly courageous. Here comes the however; it gave me an odd feeling at times. Coincidental that most of them had something very dramatic happen? Sometimes the sentences sounded very rehearsed. Wanted to follow up on the cast, so I googled them. Read their personal responses (after seeing the episodes themselves). I'm in complete and utter shock to hear what injustice has been done to them. How can directors etc. be so cruel for the purpose of entertainment? To share a huge part of your life with the world.. only to have it edited so much, only half truths are showing. Why on earth should you put these survivors in another layer of hell? I wish I didn't watch this. I feel guilty about unwillingly participating in the number of views. Maybe not if these people got anything for their time, trouble and energy. I'm not religious, but this is evil. So cruel. Shame on you, Docshop. Shame on you, Netflix. I'm so sorry cast and loved ones people have put this through you, and all the terrible comments ignorant people are making.
The Good Fight (2017)
They can drop the term spin-off soon
Edit after watching Season 3; I'll keep the 10 for seasons 1 & 2. Rewatched them before starting with 3. It's okay to try something different.. but not a full season! If the writers want to go a different direction, please make a spin off of this spin off. I truly missed the pace and intensity this season. The only character that didn't lose 'character' in this season was Marissa Gold.
Absolutely fantastic. I'm not feeling like I'm watching the Good Wife. The Good Fight took over a few of the TGW elements, like fitting music, good pace, and a few familiar faces. Oh, and Diane of course!
Less whining, more realistic action. Comparing how good this 'spin off' is: Buffy the vampire slayer VS its spin-off Angel. Just like Angel, the word spin off drops quickly, and the show becomes one on it's own. Very great potential to be better than TGW.
Big Little Lies (2017)
If you have issues with your attention span, this is going to be tough.
I have not read the book, so my opinion is just about the show. Also, never really felt the need to give my review on a show. It could have been so, so good. The cast, the money, parts of the script. Reading tons of positive reviews ahead - saying it was like Pretty Little Liars for adults.. Jeez, I was excited to start watching. I generally don't prefer 'slow' shows, but sometimes they're worth it, even with a short attention span. This show? It took work, serious work to keep attention to the screen. I took a full Sunday to push myself through it. I mean, this show should have had it all, right? It took so much prep and planning to get all these great actors together.. opportunity of a life time, one might think. Sure, it looked pretty. But how to say this nicely? No building up tension, no serious problems (okay, 2 cases). Rich, Privileged, bored.
I sure hope upper class people, or rich actors and actresses haven't forgotten what the real world looks like.
Ps. does that camouflage makeup really exist? The one that isn't visible, doesn't rub off on highly expensive clothes in a warm climate.
Mozart in the Jungle (2014)
Don't judge a show by it's music. Or title.
Jungles? Orchestra? Shows with lots of music? No, thank you; not very appealing.
..Is what I thought. The only reason I gave this series a try is a curiosity towards Jemima Kirke's sister (Girls). And I'm glad I did. A few episodes turned into a binge watch. Not the usual edge-of-your-seat type, but being spellbound by this series wonderful charm. Did not expect much of the character development, which might be one of the more interesting elements of the show. A few famous faces vs. a few never seen before (a.k.a. 'normal looking people') is very refreshing as well.
Jungles? Nah. Orchestra? From nay tot yay. Shows with lots of music? It's neither too long or too much. And honestly; it's bewitching.
Conclusion: It's interesting to get a glimpse in the life of people that give everything for their passion. Without it being lame.
