The Adam Project (2022)
Entertaining and left me with the good feels.
I rarely write reviews, but seeing this movie with a 6.7 rating nudged me to do so. I'm not a big movie watcher, when I do though, I don't really watch action, comics, or sci-fi. I do, however, like Ryan Reynolds. Still probably haven't seen most of his movies, but after seeing Deadpool I realized he could essentially melt away the genres for me, and poke fun at the things about them that usually annoy me. Having said all that, his "schtick" might be old to some but it doesn't rub me that way.
Onto the movie. I found all of the main characters endearing (except villain Catherine Keener, who as an actress I love), and with a desire to see them through safely. Even through the CGI (not normally a fan), I found it enjoyable, even convincing enough to swerve in my seat a couple times when ships appeared from nowhere in the skies. This movie has heart, laughs, action, and the actors all do a great job in reeling you in to make you want to care. It left me with a smile.
Special shout-out to Walker Scobell for debuting his 12 year old acting chops alongside some big league actors, job well done, young sir. I suspect we'll be seeing him around for a while!
Snowflake Mountain (2022)
From a reality tv fan...
Most reality tv, we can easily establish, isn't reality, it's merely fluff. That said, this showcases exaggerated caricatures of spoiled children. Alternately, the hosts are military veterans who are well versed in survival. It's a clown version of Survivor, because of course, these people don't know how to survive outdoors, their idea of being outdoorsy is eating on a patio. Adding the term "snowflake" is intentional in the desire to create more of a divide between us ALL, as the word has been used in excess politically the past few years (both sides). Way to throw a bigger, dumber wrench into society, Netflix.
The Thing About Pam (2022)
Never been a fan of hers, but....
For as long as I can remember, I've just not liked Renee Zellweger. Perhaps it was the whole Bridgette Jones crap maybe her voice didn't jive with me, don't know. All that's changed since watching "...Pam". The show is brilliantly done, from a dark comedy spoof of Dateline and a real murder case to quirky bits which tend to focus on Pam's mannerisms, and overall "isms". I didn't want it to end, I could be endlessly entertained by this show and it's engrossing unique retelling of a real life incident. Thank you Renee for showing us what you got, because it's brilliant!!
Nathan for You: Liquor Store; Exterminator; Car Wash (2014)
I cried laughing so hard
Great episode, but the gold lies in the exterminator segment. Nathan attempts to help a struggling exterminator land a big hotel contract by offering a coverup, so not to alarm guests. The comedic genius was in the mattress removal/disposal. From experience I can suggest putting any drink down when you reach this point, your couch will thank you.
Spirited (2010)
Unique and wonderful
Stumbled across this on Amazon, immediately fell in love with it within the first couple episodes. It could've gone on for more seasons, but wrapped up in a way that offers closure. If you're looking for something that's different from the rest, give it a shot- it's quite charming.
Kidding (2018)
A gem of a show
As others have said, this is not a show for kids. It's also not a comedy, but more of a dramedy- bordering closer to the dramatic with a side of quirk. It focuses on a kid's show host who is dealing with the loss of his child and marriage; basically his life as he knows it. More than that, it takes you to the secret corners of people's lives, places that expose struggles over loss, identity, denial, and plenty more that any living being can relate to. I think this show is all around superb and very much look forward to where it will take me. There's been nothing quite like it on television, which must be why the people who've given such low ratings can't seem to wrap their heads around it. Have a watch and decide for yourself.
