Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Full nose dive from episode 6
This show was a solid 6 for me before episode 6. It had ok-ish acting, interesting (but unrealistic) concept and some genuinely funny moments.
Boxes need to be ticked these days in Hollywood for a tv show to even get the green light to be made. So I understand that and that is fine with me. These days if you want to watch anything better than a 6 you need to watch foreign or old movie.
That said, I went in with low expectations and was genuinely surprised how funny it was in some parts. However, the show gets progressively worse with each episodr until it gets to episode 6 when it turns into a full-on couple's therapy and you feel like you're watching an episode of Jerry Springer show and that is exactly where I decided to quit watching.
A wasted potential.
No Escape (2023)
Very unlikable main characters
The prodcucers of the show missed it with casting on this one. The two girls who are also the main protagonists are extremely unlikable and are very bad at acting and delivering the dialogues. I found it extremely difficult to root for them in anyway.
The dialogues seem to have been writing by a 15 year old and lack substance. Character development is also very average and we see odd dialogue and chemistry developing among some characters.
Cinematography and direction is good but unfortunately isn't enough to save the show. Do yourself a favor qnd skip this show. There are shows out there that are miles better in every aspect.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Good but ultimately disappointing
A movie about life of Robert Oppenheimer, the focal scientist who helped bring to life the atomic bomb.
This was the first movie this year to get me excited to go to back to the movies but this movie ultimately disappointed me in several ways. In the end the negatives outweighed the positives.
The good:
- Fantastic score
- Good acting overall, especially Cillian Murphy is great, so is Robert Downey Jr
- Excellent cinematography
The bad: -Story feels disjointed, time jumps are excessive to the point that is dostracting
- Movie tries to pack too much into theee hour runtime and doesn't get it's priorities right. It feels like a series of "This happened and then that happened" scenes and a collage of everything in his life. Several prominent characters get introduced in rapid succession and they are gone before you get to know them or to care in the slightest. On the other hand the movie dedicates too much time to things like the courtroom drama and sex scenes
- Unnecessary sex and nudity, with all the feminist movement these days and considering we're in 2023, we surely should not put sex acenes and nudity only for the sake of it but only if they add to the plot. Unfortunately in Openheimer's case they don't. We see absolute unnecessary sex and nudity in this film that serve no purpose.
One last note, there is no reason to watch this movie in IMAX other than an underwhelming explosion scene that takes a maximum of 10 minutes.
Despite being a Nolan fan, I have to give this one a 6 overall.
Beoning (2018)
Overrated and pretentious
I've watched good cinema from various directors all over the world from well known directors lile Scorsese, Hitchcock and Fincher to their lesser known peers Emir Kusturica, Farhadi, Jarmusch etc. I've developed a small taste for what a good, well made and enjoyable movie really is regardless of how slow, or with lack of action it is or how long it can run for. I have watched fascinating and gripping movies two plus hours long that are just filmed in a single room. This movie however is pure garbage and it has nothing going for it except near perfect cinematography (hence 3 stars). It is unfortunately too bland, pretentious and scores low on every other front. As another reviwer put it... it's the case of the emperor's clothes phenomenon !
Cinematography is excellent and it gets a 3/10. Don't waste your time there are better gems out there.
Yellowstone (2018)
Too slow
Watched two episodes, good acting, cinematography qnd direction, dialogues are good too. However nothing about the stoy is gripping enough to get you attached and I don't have time to watch few more hours just to see if I like it. Also a few depictions of animals getting hurt is just a serious kill joy for me. Pass.
No Sudden Move (2021)
Tedious to watch
This movie is a bore to watch, there is something about it that can't really absorb you fully.
