Dragon Age: Absolution (2022)
Unexpected treasure
The first two episodes were more cheesy-entertaining. They're not bad, but they are filled with lots of fantasy tropes, cliches, and overused one liners. But still a solid, simple amusement. Which IMO, is what made the final 4 episodes all ten out of tens. The unexpected takeoff of plot, character development, twists and intrigue. I binged in an afternoon.
The animation style might take you half an episode or so to get used to (or not, I liked it right away) but has truly breathtaking moments of beautiful sequences. I've seen several adult animated/fantasy series, and I'd confidently put this one near to the top rankings.
Ted Lasso: Beard After Hours (2021)
Alice in Wonderland episode
If you don't like Alice and Wonderland metaphors/adventures, this isn't for you. That's OK. It's REALLY GOOD for what it is/trying to be. But it's essentially a filler episode, hence the bombing negative reviews. Trust the process. They wrap it up in the most beautiful bow.
Cinderella (2021)
Why are the one stars so salty?
The spamming of one star reviews should really be an indication of how much you SHOULD watch this movie! Full of color, full of music, full of laughs, full of life. It's got everything - vibrant backdrops, jaw dropping wardrobe, perfect balance of original and cover songs, great acting (yeah idk why people think otherwise). Of course it has a hint of cheesiness to it, but the movie knows what it is and doesn't take itself that seriously. No blockbuster, but a great relaxing and fun musical to watch on your own or with family.
Belgravia (2020)
"Boring" - from a period drama superfan
I've watched many period dramas in my life; it's my favorite genre. And while this is far from the worst, it doesn't really stand out. I forced my way through the episodes. It's just sort of... boring. With Julian Fellowes contributing to this, I naturally compare it to Downton Abbey, which this seems to try and be. But Downton had stronger actors, more glamorous wardrobe, far more character building, denser with wittier lines, and breathtaking backdrops (interior and exterior), and multiple interesting plots. This had none of that. Just a single boring plot that all the dull characters were attached to.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Plot saturated with cheese, bad acting, and inconsistency
I was mislead by the ratings here at IMDB. I wanted to like it. Finished the two available seasons. Much of the plot doesn't make sense, is unbelievable, or is pointless simply for the sake of rushing the romance, which is extremely unbelievable anyway. No chemistry; horrible acting. If you like Twilight, you'll enjoy it. Has about the same depth. Theresa (Diana) has no depth as an actress and hasn't made me believe a single scene.
