The Regime (2024)
Intellectually funny.
If it's not your kind of funny... There's no need to linger, but if you do I would suggest it is an absolute masterpiece!
Intelligent, dry and particular. If you didn't like Emma Stone's performance in Poor Things... Then this might be outside of your scope of appreciation. And that's understandable.
Yet one can't deny that the acting works, the writing works. The cinematography is a piece of art. Not to mention the sexual tension is uncomfortable in a extremely odd fashion.
I don't understand the low rating, but I also understand that people like different things. In my opinion this is EXTREMELY underrated and I a am enjoying every moment! Kate's best performance yet!
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
All in one action packed everything at once that looks like Disney, written for Netflix. Easy to watch, easier to forget
George Lucas was inspired by his love for old Western and Samurai films and created a fantasy sci fi world that became a timeless galaxy far away called Star Wars. Despite the use of popular cinema tropes, it worked with subtle reinvention of classic genres made into something new with original storytelling and good writing.
Zack Snyder is guilty of trying to copy that formula almost as if its part of Star Wars, yet lacking the writing. Making it too boring to surprise, yet safely entertaining enough to watch till the end credits. Willing to please anyone that settles for general relatable content in a movie with a Sci Fi undertone that looks cool as a trailer and would be a modern Snyder directed weekend movie blockbuster for any age to enjoy without feeling offended. Or at least pretend you enjoyed it if you were forced into watching it like me.
It is ambitious in a smothering way at times, borrowing from everything one can possibly put into one movie that feels like it came from another movie like a random lapse of cinema Deja Vu. A character from every mainstream time period genre Snyder possibly could put in the future, he made sure they all exist there shamelessly. Mixing and mashing them all together like some diverse space multi cultural Justice League where each unique individual has a heroic origin story, prequel and possible sequel that already feels exhausting to even imagine trying to be that person that actually cares to Google it.
It might sound great if it actually made sense to expand a complex universe, but it ends up looking like a typical Mormon farming community being oppressed by WWII Nazi lookalikes, add a robot and some spaceships and give them funny accents and we are in the future telling a tale as old as time. Wow! But wait, its about to get weird with so much more stereotypes to entertain us with...
Imagine watching western influenced cowboys and Indians that meets Chinese Dynasty era with Roman Empire Gladiators meets Scandinavian Vikings along with fascist supremacy villains with a dash of Marvel's Wakanda warriors with PG approved GOT violence with a Chronicles of Riddick landscape along with The Matrix steam punk technology mixed with a little Pocahontas in a futuristic Dune mystic fantasy world with slow motion action packed Star Wars signature alien creature world like qualities. Renowned cinematography that typically expands Snyder's 300 classic, but now it's in space on steroids where every character is a possible lead. We just simply don't care to know yet. At least it's what anyone can expect. Super attractive cast that looks amazing when they move so fast in action scenes filmed in slow motion to see how fast they move, but in slow motion...
What is it about exactly? Space oppression with a hint of resistance to fight for a better future and justice for all. An old generic heroic tale of bravery just like Star Wars but different types of good guys and bad guys. Totally different its almost original if you take the Zack Snyder fandom very seriously. No desire for average folk wanting to know more at any point unless it becomes a multi billion dollar franchise to exploit and stretch out Marvel style.
As fans would fairly demand in a world with so many choices of stories that would never end until its rebooted and retold for the next generation with a modern spin and advanced CGI that makes it never ending yet you can't wait for more sequels, spin offs and prequels with shocking cliffhangers revealing more cliffhangers.
Rebel Moon is a possible franchise option in an ocean of competitors identical to using the exact same magic formula and character arcs from every franchise that ever made a profit. Honestly it's a tough competition for any Network to invest in, especially Netflix well known for quantity over quality. Otherwise it's canceled until something better replaced it.
Also, It's quite exhausting to watch if you expect something original. Especially if you try to find deeper meanings and focus like there would be a twist any moment that would surprise you and make you jump out of your seat and yell "Aha, a plot I well thought predicted yet I've been fooled by the ultimate twist of great storytelling!?!" None of that, sadly. Very predictable.
It comes across as multiple ideas for a movie that evolved more as a Snyder directorial concept pitch to Netflix than an actual well written story to be adapted into film. A great idea that looks visually stunning and promising with a well known directorial name behind it, yet begging the viewer not to want more than to capture it at face value. Be happy with anything that anyone might find remotely relatable in a movie at any given time as you watch it. Then it's for you! As long as it makes studio a target with a healthy viewership algorithm for a wide audience with long term seasonal return viewer ratings, then I guess it achieved its ultimate goal.
Mediocre and watchable. Relatable yet equally forgettable to think it would need a sequel to make it any longer and more boring... One Rebel Moon is enough to get a basic "meh" experience... Everything explained very thoroughly and it feels like the only debate would be if you actually care to find political metaphors into why the farmers be farming, and why the oppressors be demanding a harvest. Total mind blowing opportunity right there... We are all Rebel Moons! A self revelation of our own quest for justice? Meh, not really...
Unless you are a obsessive Snyder superfan that has dark thoughts after reading this negative outlook on what is clearly a masterpiece to you. Then I would say just kidding silly. Best movie ever. Nothing like it, please dont hurt me with your super human powers.
Renfield (2023)
Surprisingly brilliant
When I saw bits of the trailer I kind of thought it's going to be something that tries way too hard to be funny.
To my surprise, it's written and executed quite well. Dark humor with these type of bold horror elements can only be well executed with good direction. With that said, I believe it accomplished everything to make this a worthwhile watch
And for the acting... There is so many ways Nicolas Cage could have been wrong for this role, but he 100% nailed it! A very welcoming comeback to say that this is perhaps his best role in decades. The other actors also don't shy away fom brilliance.
It just works. Not a deep over-thinking movie, but it's smart. And definitely funy.
Severance (2022)
Gripping in every way
I have to admit I wasn't expecting it to be this brilliant. The only problem I had was the harsh realization on the last episode, that I will need to either watch it again or wait for season 2. It is one of those series that creates a lingering effect. It's hard to find a show I really like after watching Severance as they pale in comparison. Not just the premise of the show, but the casting and execution blows my mind.
I seriously never knew Ben Stiller had it in him to create something so gripping. Im a fan! And definitely would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a visual page turner.
Pixels (2015)
It's not a "Thinker", no brian power required while watching
Adam Sandler movies can sometimes stray when his movies try too hard to be funny. It peaks at borderline stereotypical almost ignorant catch phrases. Sometimes he does actually get it right, and that would be Pixels.
Pixels are one of the more casual ones that I actually enjoy. It's definitely not smart Scifi, and there can be many unanswered questions if you are looking an Interstellar...
It's got a great cast and its tolerant if you just want something to watch thats not too overcomplicated but yet enjoyable. Peter Dinklege is the main reason I actually found this hilarious. Brilliant actor!
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Just watch the whole season first before complaining about silly things
If you are going to focus on how the characters look, what they wear or how Tolkien wouldn't approve. Then your problem is with people in general and not really the franchise.
Really ask yourself that question honestly. Why does it matter so much? Most people just watched the Trilogy and didn't even read the books. The books are for a very patient and intellectual mind, and I think the details are actually doing Tolkien justice. We are only 2 episodes in and it's stunning, so much work went into it and the details are captivating. Just give it a full season first before complaining about complaining. If you are unsatisfied then, go on then and be angry. But there is a difference between being legitimately angry and superficially spoiled...
In the Game of Thrones books, Daenerys is without a single hair on her head and bald. Nothing like the character played by Emilia Clarke. She made it something that works very well for the screen and made The Mother of Dragans her own. Devoted fans also had a hissy fit about that in the beginning. Now we can't imagine her without hair. Only time will tell, but in the meantime... Give it a shot before shooting it down.
First Kill (2022)
A constant music montage of cheap cliché teenage bubblegum pop
There is something about music in a series. If it sucks it can still be OK. But if it sucks and they play at least a full album of some new one hit wonder in an entire episode you fail to miss the content that could have had some appeal.
It comes across as trying to hard to be cool with all the bombardment to appear relevant. Almost as if the plot is written by a Gen Z Instagram influencer.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
Just like the original film, it's before it's time
I was skeptical, even in the first episode. It drawn me in so fast, the characters, the writing, the creativity... It's remarkable, and it lingers long after you watched it. Absolutely brilliant. Pitty Netflix are becoming money hungry like they promised they wouldn't in the beginning. They are canceling all the critically aclaimed quality shows. This show really deserves a second season.
He's All That (2021)
Terrible!
If you think that Instagram influencers and TikTok is the meaning of life, then these atrocious actors will have some mediocre appeal. It made me reevaluate if I ever even liked the first rendition. It's crap.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Now I want to watch it
Am I the only one who wants to watch this now due to the expressive negative reviews? It bugs me so that I want to see the terrible things people are actually talking about.

The Act (2019)
Patricia Arquette and Joey King!!
This show is all about superior acting. I have always known Patricia Arquette is talented, but it took me almost a whole episode to realise it's her. She never played such a complex role before, and my goodness is she convincing! This really made me not sleep. I had to bench watch it. And it's not just the performance of all the cast including Joey King, but really a gripping heartbreaking story. Very well executed! Highly recommended.
For All Mankind (2019)
Ronald D Moore does it again
To be honest this really looked boring and I waited some time before deciding to watch it. The only reason I got to it was due to the creator.
Battlestar Galactica is my favourite series of all time, and Ronald D Moore has a very fascinating way into bringing the human element into his stories, no matter the genre.
He did the same with Outlander, the character's are real, emotional, even funny and relatable on a human level. Never once does anyone seem fake, unrealistic or forced. You immediately find the people equally intriguing as the story.
The writing is really superior to most recent shows. I find myself lost in this world, and really enjoying it far more than I thought I would. He is truly a genius, without a doubt.
Run (2020)
Kiera Allen!!! That's all
So everyone knows Sarah Paulson by now, even if some think she may be overrated due to her success of never having a day off. One still cannot deny that she is a good actress. This time however I was astonished by this new lead actress that had me captevated from start to finish.
The funny thing is I kept thinking throughout the film how terrifying it must be for a person in an actual wheelchair to watch this film, as Kiera Allen's performance was so convincing it's like you are there with her every moment. Turns out after I read up on her she is paralyzed in real life. Not that it even makes a difference based on performance. She sure made a hell of an impression on me! I hope we see more of the very talented Kiera Allen. The film deserves a 10 just based on her performance. Highly recommended.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Season 3 is actually amazing if you stop complaining
So since the start I never knew where to place Discovery. The CGI great, the cast is great and even the same showrunners we had in the older Star Treks. But always felt that something is missing. That the pace is either to fast or slow, or that the ships character's are at times all just there to fulfil Burnham's inner struggles with herself.
I get why people don't like her, I would think some dislikes are centered around the Vulcan blasphemy making her the sister of Spock. You know the one he never talked about as she didn't exist in space and time when we watched the previous series...
But if you can wrap your head around that then the show actually gets good. Season 3 is by far my favourite, and really has my attention. Also glad that I am not a racist or trans/homophobe to be able to enjoy this fully without having to make snarky comments on here. Cmon people it's STAR TREK! It's meant to unite people, species and lifeforms from different backgrounds as Gene Rodery always intended. I feel this rendition does a great job respectfully.
The Undoing (2020)
Grippingly unpredictable plot twists done surprisingly well
By now everyone knows by default description that this is a murder mystery 'whodunit' crime thriller. It can always be a very tricky genre if the writing is sloppy, and leaves room for one to predict who the killer is by having below average intelligence.
The Undoing is certainly not one of those mediocre murder mysteries. The twists are done subtle but very well, that when a episode ends your brain refuses to accept that you have to wait a week for the next episode.
The only negative thing about this show is that you can't unwatch it. Not knowing is what makes it so gripping. Don't think it would have the same impact if you watched it for a second time.
Casting couldn't have been better though. Hugh Grant was an excellent choice as he had a real life infidelity-public/arrest and divorce way back, it made his cute puppy eyes go bad boy overnight. So glad he is back in the game, I like him much more now that he is older. He appears less forced and more genuine than he did back in the romcom 90's.
Nicole Kidman is annoyingly brilliant as always, even her singing the opening song adds great atmosphere to a superb high quality and well executed show. Lily Rabe is one hell of an actress since her American Horror Story days. Perfect supporting lead alongside Kidman with great chemistry.
All and all brilliant! We need more shows like this HBO!
Another Life (2019)
It doesn't deserve such a low score. Great show
Suddenly everyone works for NASA and won the Nobel prize for being physicists, using their spare time to be critics of Science Fiction. Those same critics propably think super heroes and transforming cars into robots are classic Sci-Fi concepts.
Finally shows come out again about space exploration and hypothetical scenario's about alien life and people have to pick it apart with the most ridiculous reasoning. Same happened with almost every Star Trek at it's release time, same happened with Battlestar Galactica. Now they are the most legendary and iconic shows out there. Pitty that good Sci-Fi shows are being demolished by condescending a-holes who can't use their imagination. Glad there is a Season 2 coming! Not a 10/10 yet but great potential for it!
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Lacks relatable character development
Not Hillhouse, it lacks the family dinamic and character backstories that made season one so interesting. It feels as if they rushed production in order to strike while the iron is hot.
Unrelatable characters because all we get is Groundhog Day in the spiritual memory lane with the odd possession here and there... The previous Aupair seems idiotic to fall in love with the hotty bad guy in just a couple of days. All because he gives her some attention. Yes I get that it's a love story, but unrelatable to say the least.
And not to mention the little brat with her repetitive one liner "Purrrfectly Splendoood...". Don't get me wrong, it's easy to watch but also easy to judge and cringe while watching.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
It's Ridley Scott, almost explains the meaning of life and then destroys it with horror. A metaphor for humanity.
If you don't get this kind of smart Sci Fi, or if you didn't realise that this is a continuation of Prometheus, you probably didn't pay enough attention.
If you say you liked the past work of Ridley Scott and now act all surprised when the female lead with short hair gives birth to something dreadful that will probably wipe out all life, then your expectations were not realistic... It's a great series, can't please every nit picker. I'd love to see how it unfolds in Season 2.
Locke & Key (2020)
You have no choice but to root for the bad guy
The concept is great but the characters fall flat. They are so intellectually challenged that you see their predictable mistakes from miles away. If these were the kids from Stranger Things, the Demagorgon would have had them for breakfast in the pilot. One could have blamed it on the stupid teenager stereotype, but even the adults are mindless zombies.
As a viewer you end up not wanting them to have possession of the keys, as the bad guy simply does a better job holding on to them. The villain constantly outsmarts the good guys, because there is nothing to outsmart to begin with.
They can only be relatable if you think it's ok to be this stupid and careless in the face of danger. I think they focused way too hard to make the dark setting in the graphic novels more family friendly. It ended up with flat and lifeless characters that could have prevented 90% of the bad things happening to them with just a bit of common sense. It says allot when the villain is the most responsible character.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1 was 9/10, Season 2 messed that up completely
Why change showrunners and directors if the first season was successful and had a following? The poor casting choices could have at least allowed us "the viewer" to be transitioned into a completely new cast.
I really don't mind propaganda, but if it comes across as soooo obvious and watered down for a wider all ages audience, its hard to be fooled by the bigger-budget hungry morons and their "appropriate" storyline. They clearly wanted the show to be something different, they got their wish and now need a new audience that would watch this garbage. Thanks for ruining a favourite used to be series Netflix!
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Finally a Stephen King adaptation has been done justice first time in decades
This is far better than I expected, recent Stephen King adaptations has been so CGI heavy and trying to get a younger audience jump scare generation into play. So much that one tended to miss the eerie tone and detail one gets from reading the books.
Doctor Sleep is well balanced, perfectly paced and packed with everything I used to enjoy about reading Stephen King novel. Perfect sequel to The Shining, as a fan of the first this was one gem I am very glad I didn't skip. Mike Flanagan is a genius, and one can see that this wasnt just a job for him, he really gets it!!! Very well done!!
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Sci fi takes the back seat, endless cut scenes of talking, and talking and talking...
This is like bad theatre, characters that doesn't have any development other than trying too hard with their Shakespearean dialogue about the bad Federation.
The worst is that the scenes just cut half way in a boring convo and then continues after another 2minute boring convo from two other characters obsessing about current starfleet politics. I really wanted to like this, its just not fitting for me as a genre I can be awake watching.
All politicts, worse just talking about politicts that by the time something interesting happens you fell asleep or started washing the dishes. The writers should be ashamed of themselves, ruining a phenomenal favourite franchise, turning it into a dull obliterated mess. It's like a non American going on to Twitter to read comments about Donald Trump.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Masterpiece
If you are going to review this show only having watched a couple of episodes or season 1, then your review looks terribly silly for those who completed it.
This is by far one of the most well excecuted series in its decade, this isn't Lost where every unexplainabe thing just fades in a distance. This also isn't Twin Peaks where the bizarre moments will never be explained but encouraged.
The violence gets real intensive from season 3 onwards, it gives me the same intense feeling I got when watching Breaking Bad. Most importantly is how the series ends. The last seven episodes gives you a grand finale of absolute mind boggling intensity that has you shaking at the edge of your seat. Everything unfolds. The best is once you think its the end, and they cannot possibly have 2 or 3 episodes left, it blows your mind, makes you cry and really understand the world of Elliott.
How a series ends has always been important to me, thats why I loved Six feet Under and Battlestar Galactica. But Mr Robot is one of the best examples of how you end a series!! The writers of the last season of Game of Thrones should have taken notes. Truly a masterpiece! It stands unique on its own.
Aquaman (2018)
Unwatchable
I can't, thank goodness im gay and dont mistake hot chick cliches for talent. People mistake Amber Heards pretty face for acting. She has 2 expressions, lusty lip expression smirk, and the Im a victim puppy eyed face. Guess she had allot of practice with the latter. Im giving this franchise a skip...
