The Beekeeper (2024)
Why is Minnie Driver American?
This is a film that starts so well. Someone falls into a pitfall that so many fall into today.
It's a film, so someone takes offense with that, thus it all it kicks off.
At this point I'm on board, it's nonsense, but I'll go with the flow.
But why, in a field of other British actors, make Minnie Driver American? That's where it lost me.
If you like a film, with a drink, this will definitely be the answer.
Jason Statham truly on form here. From what today's expects of him, this is definitely on point!
The end, for no reason sets up a potential sequel, but for what reason, I can not pahthom.
Ted Lasso: So Long, Farewell (2023)
Everything comes home
Was this the best season? No. Did this this series have beat new characters introduced? Zava.. No.... Barbara.... Could have been a great on going series regular.
For the fans, a lot of previously introduced characters made an appearance. Unfortunately, some had more of role than others.
Above all else, it gave everyone what we wanted. Some arcs tied up very neatly. Some arcs very much not as neatly as we would have hoped. Some arcs, well they left us guessing. But hey, that's life.
This will definitely be a series, it's a shame, isn't coming back.
This episode definitely reminds all fans why they were invested in the first place. If you loved the series, or if you didn't, just remember.... Be A Goldfish.
Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Nothing can ever compare to Hook
Starts promisingly enough, traditional characters, with top hat and bear etc.
Unfortunately, actor who plays Peter, is completely emotionless in the role. This takes all sense of jeopardy and enjoyment out of the film.
The twist with the relationship between Pan and Hook didn't really work. Would have hit a bit harder, if the film had a darker edge to it.
Tinkerbell's character the only shining light in the film, and definitely an arch that could have been explored more.
Robin Williams as Pan, and Dustin Hoffman as Hook will always leave a lot to live up to.
In summary, most kids will be bored, adults will just be wondering why they bothered.
The Final Destination (2009)
Is your IQ above 7? Then please, avoid.
The first two films in the instalment, make a story. The third film, increased the budget, and still had some story. This, was a 3D effect film, which then input a story.
Instantly forgettable characters, instantly forgettable actors (Bar one half of BubbaGump!). Ask anyone who's seen it, which character/actor had the premonition... Don't be surprised by their response.
Truly a film born of its time, when films were trying 3D technology. Had it be witnessed in the cinema, at time of release, might have been a more positive review (+1 maybe).
Summary:- Gratuity over substance, effects (loosely) or story.
The Princess (2022)
Could have been worse, better than Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City
Anyone giving this a bad score, I'm not sure what they were really expecting. This film doesn't pretend to be anything it's not.
Story line is simple, not the first film to have the 'weak' princess turn out to be the hero. But this film doesn't shy away from that fact, it just has fun with it.
Open a drink, sit back, and just enjoy it for what it is.
Want Shakespeare? This isn't for you!
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Did they not realise it was bad as they were making it?
When you look at the original Resident Evil films, and how they got steadily worse as the series went, I was actually looking forward to this new origin story. Yet somehow, this is worst Resident Evil film to date.
This film boasts a very strong cast: Robbie Amell (Legends of Tomorrow), Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Donal Logue (Gotham), Neil McDonough (Arrow), Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Tom Hopper (Game of Thrones), and Avan Jogia (Victorious).
But a lousy slow moving story line, uses none of these actors well at all. It was more of an excuse to fit in as many of the characters from the games as possible.
I'll be surprised if many fans of the game, will give this movie much more than 30 minutes before switching off. Especially considering how bad they made the Leon S Kennedy character.
What could have promised so much, and have a decent game inspired movie, unfortunately will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Stick to the original Resident Evil (2002), with Mila Jovovich, and leave it there.
Spiderhead (2022)
Good, but falls short.
Good concept, good story, and great actors. But when you have an actor like Miles Teller, I just expect more. Compare him to his role in Whiplash, and unfortunately this falls short.
Turning Red (2022)
Haters gonna hate woke
I'm old school, but enjoyed this films. Makes you smile from start to finish. So just leaving this out there, for haters to hate. Admit you like this, and move on!!!!
A Christmas Number One (2021)
Turned off after ten minutes
Note: Only watched 10 minutes, may have got better.
Always happy to give a new Christmas film ago, but this, was awful. Acting was terrible, and the comedy elements weren't funny.
The rest of the film may have got better, but wasn't willing to find out.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
Haters gonna hate
Overall, not completely terrible. Fans of the first two are always going to hate it, due to the uniqueness and story telling of them, at the time. Many reviews on here are probably from people who haven't actually watched it, and just want to complain. Is far better than the 3rd, 4th and 5th installments.
Aisling Bea was far under used, and Rob Delaney was a bit annoying. Randomly the dad of the main kid didn't really care his son was left at behind. That aside, there is an enjoyable film in there.
The lad in main role was actually good in the role, I know that people will hate him just because of the British accent.
There's fun along the way, the normal slapstick you expect. Younger people will certainly enjoy it, sit back and just enjoy it for what it is.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Visually Pleasing
This is one of those films, that is visually great to watch, but ultimately doesn't really go anywhere.
No Spoilers: Opening scene sets up the story. But from there, the story seems to stall.
Most people will be left wanting more, but not in a good way.
The Owners (2020)
Interesting
Not bad. Starts well, then just seems to stall. Great lead character, and fantastic supporting actor. But just falls flat half way thru. My guess, to help set up the ending.
Ultimately, if you like Masie Williams or Sylvester McCoy, then worth a watch. Just don't expect much from the ending.
The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee (2020)
Something to throw on in the background
The sad reality is, when actors play themselves, the actually play characters of themselves. This works for Chevy Chase, but unfortunately not for John Cleese.
This isn't a completely terrible film, has a great line up of yester year actors. Some truly funny moments in it to.
A film to put on at the end of the week, have a drink, and just let it run its course.
Turner & Hooch (2021)
Made so parents won't completely hate it
Reviewed half way thru first (Maybe only) season.
Being a fan of the original film, and a fan of Josh Peck, I want to like this more.
It's definitely made with parents of children in mind. Kids will want to watch it, because of the silliness of the dog, but there's enough dialogue so parents won't be completely bored. If you're not a parent, watching it for your kids, you might get annoyed with it prett quick.
There's enough going on, that second season could easily be done, but time will tell on the success.
Still, a solid 7.
Soul (2020)
Something for everyone
Doesn't matter what age you age, there's something for everyone.
Fun, sadness, something learned along the way. Everything you'd expect from Disney, but doesn't fail to deliver.
A must watch for everyone!
Panic (2021)
Swing and a miss
If you like the sound of the premise of this show, you're going to be disappointed.
Unfortunately there is less about the games, and more about lust, angst, and feuding friends.
Probably one for older teens, young 20s. Everyone else will be left wanting something more.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
One for Bill & Ted fans
This is definitely one for fans of the franchise.
If you haven't seen the first two, you may wonder what on earth Keanu Reeves is doing in this film.
Honestly, take the film in the way it was meant, good fun. Great to see the two main leads back together again.
Be Excellent To Each Other!
Triple Threat (2019)
A missed opportunity
Felt more like a missed opportunity than anything else. Great cast, and some good fight scenes. But a vague story, and a cat and mouse tale that couldn't make its own mind up, made for a flawed film. The scene with the grenade launcher was the high point.
