Clara Kimball Young is the eponymous Lonely Princess of the movie. She is tired of sitting all day reading, with only the chattering Doris Thompson to relieve her solitude. So when an American millionaire shows up, they fall in love.
Vitagraph sprang for a working holiday for their leading dramatic actor, Maurice Costello, and this movie was shot at least partially in Venice; a medium shot of the actor in a gondola with the Bridge of Sighs is used a couple of times. Although there is some nice acting in this -- Miss Thompson is quite amusing -- the principal attraction of this movie for its American audience was the location shots of Venice.
