Despite former Evil Dead frontman Bruce Campbell parting ways with the franchise, which has fissured into various strands over the years, the film series battles on with Campbell now on exec-producing duty alongside the original film’s director, Sam Raimi, to deliver this frenzied, gore strewn reboot/sequel/equal/something, that feels more connected to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 remake than Raimi’s original trilogy.
Helmed by The Hole in the Ground writer/director Lee Cronin, Evil Dead Rise is a feisty, ripped limb lobbing, scatter-gun whirlwind of guts, blood, demonic possession and pregnancy horror that doesn’t muzzle gusto for characters or story, and suffers as a result.

Thirty years after Penny Marshall’s home run hit film “A League of Their Own” (1992) hit TV screens, a reimagined series that has the heart of the story will do the same. Created by Abbi Jacobson who also stars in the series and Will Graham, the TV show broadens the scope of storytelling that captures the women who went to play baseball while the men were away for World War II.
The series does still center around the Midwestern All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, with four teams: the Rockford Peaches, Kenosha Comets, South Bend Blue Sox and Racine Belles. Will a good deal of action takes place on the diamond, more lies beyond the dugout and bases. Race, ethnicity and sexual orientation get a more detailed look in the eight hours of TV vs. the film’s two.

Emmy-award winning composer Joseph LoDuca has been providing horror fans with delightfully ominous music since he created the scary score for The Evil Dead, and his artistic talents can currently be heard on Don Mancini's Chucky series on Syfy and USA Network. We had the great pleasure of catching up with LoDuca in our latest Q&a feature to discuss how he got involved with the beloved new series, creating the main theme for the iconic Good Guys doll, and he also reflects on returning to the Evil Dead franchise for Evil Dead: The Game.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these for us! Having collaborated with Don Mancini on Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, when did you first become aware that there was going to be a Chucky series and what discussions or direction did you initially receive from Don Mancini?

The origins of the music in Evil Dead 2 are shrouded in darkness. Legend has it the soundtrack was written by the dark ones, and the music served as a passageway to the evil worlds beyond. Or, if you don’t buy that, you can just enjoy the fact that Waxwork Records is releasing a 30th anniversary deluxe vinyl edition of the soundtrack, and the full album is available to stream in its entirety today.

When it was released on the PlayStation in 1999, Silent Hill scared gamers for many reasons. For some, it was the fog. For others, the melted nurses. But perhaps most unsettling of all was the eerie soundtrack that made you imagine what horrible things could be lurking in that small town. This Wednesday, Mondo is taking gamers down memory lane with their Silent Hill soundtrack vinyl release, and we have official details and a look at the cover art.
From Mondo: "Hey all - big one this week! We're super excited to release two all-new horror scores - the soundtrack to the 1999 Survival Horror classic game, Silent Hill, and 2017's criminally under-seen, The Girl With All The Gifts.

From what lies in the cellar to what waits in the woods, there are many scary things in Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, but one of the film’s most unsettling elements is Joseph LoDuca’s score. [Editor's Note: We want to wish Daily Dead readers a Happy 2016! Continuing our Favorites of 2015, Monte shares his list, which includes movies, vinyl releases, and more.]
Bone Tomahawk: An absolutely impressive film from S. Craig Zahler, “Bone Tomahawk” is the western film I always wanted. It’s a mix of unusual humor with touches of thoroughly effective and satisfying horror and beautifully rendered western era compositions. Add some rather stunning performances from an impressive cast, Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, and especially Richard Jenkins, and you have one of the most unique horror, western, drama mash-ups you’ll experience.
Turbo Kid: Some call it a guilty pleasure while others, like myself, wholeheartedly defend the action, science fiction, and horror films of the 1980’s. “Turbo Kid” is a loving homage to all the era specific qualities you’d see from these guilty pleasure films combined into one. The fact that it gets nearly everything in tune with the 80’s is remarkable; the fact that it is also has an earnest and humorous story is an unexpected plus.

We’ve seen a couple trailers for Ash vs Evil Dead, now it’s time for the behind the scenes featurette. This one should do the trick; it’s a couple minutes of bland but enthusiastic quotes from Bruce Campbell, producer Robert Tapert, new co-star Lucy Lawless, and composer Joseph LoDuca, among others. It’s got some good shots of the […]

Lakeshore Records will release the Pay The Ghost – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 18th. The album features the film’s original score by Joseph LoDuca (Spartacus, Ash Vs. The Evil Dead). “There are three aspects to my music for Pay The Ghost that made the experience memorable,” said LoDuca. “I am pleased with the result of my close collaboration with Uli Edel (director) on a horror/thriller score that relied primarily on electronic sound. Over several sessions together, creating dark atmospheres with a gnawing sense of tension was our primary objective.”
A supernatural thriller based on a short story by Tim Lebbon. Pay The Ghost kicks off on Halloween night, when a couple’s young son is mysteriously abducted. A year later, they begin to sense his presence in frightening ways. A string of terrifying clues draws them to search for the boy throughout New York, where they...

Joe Dante has always been a filmmaker that I've deeply admired and I feel that a good amount of his work doesn't get discussed nearly enough. I completely get this talented filmmaker's attraction to the EC Comics-style concept in Burying the Ex, but Alan Trezza's script is too lazy and uninspired for this movie to be anywhere close to a comeback for Joe Dante.
Obviously made under time constraints and budget limitations, with the proper nourishment and a proper rewrite from Dante himself, I could easily see Burying the Ex in theory being a project that could compliment Dante's sensibilities. His trademark influences of Mel Blanc-inspired frenetic humor and the dark surrealistic atmosphere absorbed from monster movie matinees would have been the perfect marriage for this movie's living dead love triangle concept. All Joe Dante needed was a solid script, because everybody knows there is only so much...

This week, production began on the highly anticipated upcoming Starz series, Ash vs Evil Dead, which has creators Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell reuniting, this time in New Zealand, to bring fans a new iteration of everyone’s favorite chainsaw-wielding anti-hero.
Daily Dead had the opportunity to take part in a very special conference call with the trio about what we can expect from the first 10-episode season (and beyond), how Ash vs Evil Dead will fit into the overall Evil Dead universe, input into some of the new characters we’ll be meeting along the way and much, much more.

One of the better horror scores to hit this year is Roque Banos' score for the Fede Alvarez-directed Evil Dead remake.
Unseen Forces, based out of Portland, Oregon, is bringing the score to vinyl. Read on for the release news.
Unseen Forces is proud to present the complete motion picture soundtrack from Fede Alvarez’s incendiary 2013 reimagining of cult horror masterpiece the Evil Dead. Spanish composer Roque Baños dazzles with a crisp modern orchestral score that bows reverently toward such genre classics as Jerry Goldsmith’s The Omen Suite, Anton Webern and Krzysztof Penderecki’s creepy string movements from The Exorcist and Joseph LoDuca’s beautifully understated atmospherics for Sam Raimi’s original creation that launched the grisly Kandarian franchise and revolutionized the contemporary horror film with its startling velocity.

You may remember Daniel Kanemoto from his animated intro for The Walking Dead TV series that became quite popular last year. He was also worked on an official trailer for The Walking Dead video game and is back with a new animated tribute to the Evil Dead trilogy:
“Follow the evil that roams through the dark bowers of man’s domain in this balls-to-the-wall animated tribute to the sights, sounds and unforgettable characters of Sam Raimi’s iconic Evil Dead trilogy! This is my cinematic love letter to three influential movies that made me want to be a filmmaker: Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army Of Darkness.
I created all the artwork in the sequence, but the final image is directly inspired by an incredible Evil Dead poster created by Olly Moss. The moment I saw it, I only wanted to see it move – which is how I feel about all great posters.

Think Like a Man: Music From & Inspired By the Film – Various Artists
Think Like a Man is a comedy based on the book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man by Steve Harvey. The film follows four couples as the women use advice from Steve Harvey’s relationship book against the men while the men discover this and try to use that knowledge against the women.
This is a relationship film that contains an almost completely African-American cast. It’s no surprise this has an R&B-heavy soundtrack. Think Like a Man – Music From & Inspired by the Film brings together a collection of mostly new songs from popular artists like Jennifer Hudson, Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, John Legend and more. Highlights of the soundtrack include the title track by Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo and the two older tracks...

Halloween’s almost upon us, and to mark the occasion, Glen’s delved into the archives to find his favourite horror movie scores…
Good readers, it’s that time of year again. The time when it’s acceptable to wander the streets dressed like a psycho killer and not get arrested for it. It’s also the time of year when there’ll be all manner of Halloween parties, and while some will no doubt resort to lazily playing Monster Mash and Thriller on a loop, I can’t help but feel it would be better if people would dig into some great horror scores to add a suitably spooky atmosphere to proceedings.
A great score can make or break a horror film. With this in mind, here are some of my favourite horror movie scores, as well as some suggestions from some well-informed writers I converse with.

Joseph LoDuca has signed on to score the upcoming action adventure film Soldiers of Fortune. The film is directed by Maksim Korostyshevsky and stars Sean Bean, Christian Slater, Dominic Monaghan, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Freddy Rodriguez and Colm Meaney. In the movie, a group of wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things don’t go exactly to plan. Soldiers of Fortune was shot last year around the Ukraine and is currently awaiting a release date.
LoDuca has recently scored the Starz mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which aired earlier this year. The series is a prequel to last year’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The project created by Steven S. DeKnight and starring John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare, Peter Mensah and Jaime Murray tells the story of the original Champion of the House of Batiatus: Gannicus, the first gladiator to become Champion of Capua.

The Complete First Season of "Spartacus: Blood And Sand", the visceral, Starz Original TV series, is now available from Anchor Bay Entertainment as a four-disc, DVD or Blu-ray package.
Executive produced by Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, Joshua Donen and Steven S. DeKnight, with a haunting soundtrack by composer Joseph LoDuca, the "Complete First Season", takes fans even deeper into the bloody brutality of the ancient Romans and the decadent machinations of its master-slave, sexually-obsessed society.
Hours of bonus features go behind the feverish orgies and bloody arenas, with interviews/commentaries augmented by rare production footage, exploring the series' CG visual effects, spectacular stunts and sensual, costume design.
Enhanced digital effects have been added to several of the episodes, and as a Blu-ray exclusive, four episodes have been selected as "Directors' Cut Extended Episodes," featuring deviant content too risqué for cable television.
