JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and Psycho II.

Earlier this year, Full Moon founder Charles Band announced that his company was launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which will focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” They also set up a Patreon account where fans can subscribe and show their support for the company while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of these films. The first movie in the Pulp Noir line, a female serial killer story called Quadrant, wrapped production a couple months ago, and now a trailer has been unveiled! You can check it out in the embed above. A release date for Quadrant has not yet been announced.
Directed by Band, Quadrant was written by C. Courtney Joyner and is described as being an unholy blend of steampunk terror and sci-fi slasher, with a female serial killer using the titular VR device to stalk her prey and channel the legacy of Jack the Ripper,...

A project that has been decades in the making, the most expensive film in the history of producer Charles Band‘s company Full Moon, the stop-motion epic The Primevals made its festival premiere last summer and was given a theatrical release through Alamo Drafthouse cinemas last month. A special edition Blu-ray release from Full Moon is forthcoming – but the Australian company Umbrella Entertainment has already started accepting pre-orders for their Blu-ray release of The Primevals, which has a release date of August 7th!
The Primevals (read our review Here) was a passion project for visual effects artist David Allen, who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes. He spent around twenty years thinking of and working on this sci-fi fantasy film. He first came up with the idea – a film that would combine live action with stop-motion animation to tell a story of time travel,...

Horror sure does come in all shapes and sizes. Let it be known that size always matters to some. But most importantly, the smaller they are the dastardlier and more vicious they become. Ah yes, we’re at that time of month again… what is with this starting off with sexual and body anatomy innuendos?! Goddamn it, ok, we’re back with another Horror Movie Rip-off which brings about two pint-sized demonoids covered in fur. These things possess not just some gnarly looking features to them but can be misconstrued and mistaken for the other. As I’m writing this, I’m starting to get some brain fog of who’s who, but in the end they’re both unique and seem like they’re both concocted out of Hp Lovecraft’s twisted, and nightmarish tales. It’s a shame this wasn’t a three-way (Goddamn it I did it again!

I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.
Produced by Full Moon founder Charles Band, the original Tourist Trap stars Connors as Mr.

Charles Band’s company Full Moon just keeps on trucking here in 2024, with the company announcing another brand new venture this week. It’s titled Full Moon’s Pulp Noir, a new label of movies that are said to be “darker” and “edgier” than recent Full Moon output.
Band detailed the upcoming slate in a video posted to YouTube this week, previewing “ten fantastic films that go just a bit farther over the line into the phantasmagorical abyss.”
He teases, “This year, Full Moon will be producing 10 feature films, shot in Italy and America, and we’re offering several exciting opportunities for you to be directly involved.”
“I’ve been thinking recently about how to create a new brand of movies. Movies that are still obviously deep in the sci-fi, fantasy, mainly horror sub-genre, and do it differently than what we’ve been doing with Full Moon. So I thought...

Full Moon Features is gearing up to go into production on their “crazy, candy-colored” comedy Barbenheimer, which was inspired by the portmanteau we all saw a thousand times last summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Full Moon founder Charles Band took to social media to let us know that Barbenheimer will begin filming on April 8th, aiming for a summer 2024 release.
In this post, Band tagged his wife, actress Robin Sydney, genre icon Barbara Crampton, legendary drive-in movie critic and TV host Joe Bob Briggs, and Joe Bob’s “mail girl” Darcy, a.k.a. Diana Prince. We’ll have to wait and see if that means Sydney, Crampton, Joe Bob, and Prince are all going to appear in the movie.

Inspiration strikes at the oddest times. Recently, I was watching Blumhouse's "Night Swim" and started thinking about all the strangest killer objects in the history of horror movies. "Where would a swimming pool rank on such a list," I pondered. "Would it rank lower or higher than a hungry bed?" These are the hard-hitting questions that race through my head, only eased by tasks like ranking all the craziest, head-scratchiest, most out-of-bounds killer objects in horror movie history.
We're not talking about flesh and blood killers or animal attackers. Even something like "Santa Jaws" is omitted from contention because while you could blame either the magical pen or sketchbook canvas that brings the Great White Santa to life, it's still a jingle-jangling shark gobbling up victims. This list is dedicated to deadly things that should not kill. Monstrous versions of household items that spring to life and slay the innocent with a most baffling reaction.

Consider, if you will, the swimming pool. While there are many flashy, outrageous exceptions based on eccentricity, wealth, and other factors, most swimming pools are of a fairly standard make. If a household backyard swimming pool has any character at all, it's because of what one puts into it: family and friends, memories, activities, and so on.
In this way, a swimming pool is akin to genre filmmaking. That is to say, the structure is fairly generic, the aesthetic is borrowed from bits and pieces of other models, and the entire enterprise seeks to serve a general function. Yet within those parameters, there can be room for variation, enough that the experience can be pleasantly unique.
That's the case with "Night Swim," the latest mid-budget offering from producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse label. Like the genre and exploitation gurus of days gone by, Blum has made a minor empire...

Ok, I’ve thought about this long and hard, discussed with my local priest and therapist, and after much internal strife, I’ve decided it’s time. What you don’t hear a lot about, and good lord do they exist, are the multiple rip-offs of Gremlins. Gremlins got its own incredible sequel and then finally this year its very own animated show that is… fine… it’s fine. But with Gremlins profitability came the clones. Full Moon founder Charles Band is one of my heroes, and another one of my heroes is drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs. Those two legends collided last weekend, as Band’s marriage to actress Robin Sydney was officiated by Joe Bob!
The wedding took place at the historic Casa Del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, California, on December 9th and was planned by Krystal Moreno from Krystal Klear Special Events & Hospitality Consulting. According to an article on People, the idea was to blend together some of the things Band and Sydney love the most, resulting in “a Magic Castle, old Hollywood concert feel with a touch of a circus.” Two Cirque du Soleil artists, a contortionist and a belly dancer, performed at the venue, as did magicians from the Magic Castle, a private club in Los Angeles owned by the Academy of Magical Arts. Need a horror movie to watch on Christmas? There are plenty to choose from. The classic slashers Black Christmas and Silent Night, Deadly Night. The thrills of P2. The brutality of the French film Inside. The insanity of Gremlins. But how about a movie where the lives of millions of children hang in the balance? Where a demonic force wants to unleash tiny terrors on the world… and they can only be stopped by a group of tiny heroes. We’re talking about Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys (watch it Here) – and if you haven’t added this one to your Christmas viewing rotation, it’s the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.

A cursory glance at B-movie maven Charles Band’s filmography reveals a long-standing fascination with little creatures, permeating a great number of Full Moon Features’ productions. The diminutive monsters lend themselves well to Full Moon’s latest merchandising venture, blind box collectibles dubbed Tiny Terrors.
The first series features 10 classic Full Moon characters with odds between 1/24 and 1/8: Blade, Tunneler, Leech Woman, Torch, and Six Shooter from the Puppet Master franchise, Jack Attack and Baby Oopsie from Demonic Toys, Radu from Subspecies, Eebee from Evil Bong, and The Gingerdead Man. Blade and Eebee also have translucent chase variants.
Wrapped in foil packaging within a 4.75″ box, each vinyl figure stands between about 3″ and 4.5″ inches tall. Tunneler is the shortest, since he’s bent over in attack position — a fine concept, though in practice it’s more difficult to display than the rest — while Torch is the biggest, thanks to his helmet spear.

One wouldn’t think that a schlocky slasher series about killer puppets would produce more than a dozen films across three decades, let alone sequels that are still being discussed today, yet here we are getting deep in the weeds over the straight-to-video sequel bliss that is Puppet Master 4. Puppet Master is easily the most successful property to come out of Charles Band’s Full Moon Features, best known for movies like Castle Freak and Subspecies, as well as more low-hanging fruit like The Gingerdead Man and The Evil Bong series. Puppet Master falls comfortably between these two extremes. After a satisfying initial trilogy that chronicles the grandiose revenge scheme of a persecuted toymaker, Puppet Master–like many long-running horror series–is forced to ask, “What’s next?”
In Puppet Master’s case, the franchise strangely pivots towards the rehabilitation of Blade, Leech Woman, Six-Shooter, and the rest of these...

Sharknado, Slither, Eight Legged Freaks, Piranha… movie history is saturated with ridiculous creature-features featuring extra-large monsters wreaking havoc, with most modern iterations plagued by bad CGI… Well now comes Bad CGI Gator from writer Zalman Band, director Danny Draven and Full Moon Features – who are taking this pop culture phenomenon and well… poking fun at it!
Six college grads on Spring Break get a cabin in the swamplands of Georgia. Once there, they decide to throw their school laptops in a backyard lake in an act of youthful defiance, which unknowingly turns a lurking alligator into the dreaded and insatiable… Bad CGI Gator!
Says Charles Band, CEO & Founder Of Full Moon Features:
I’ve long been against the overuse of CGI in genre films, and in many ways, this movie is a fun, tongue-in-cheek antidote to that. When done right, CGI is a great tool to accent special effects. When done wrong…...

Most homes aren’t equipped with the type of stereo system that’ll best suit Oppenheimer, but Christopher Nolan has one piece of advice for those wanting to watch the film in their living room: Buy the Blu-ray instead of watching it on an “evil streaming service.”
Nolan attended a recent Los Angeles screening of his latest movie, during which he spoke in more depth about the craft that went into it. He harped on all the extra time and energy spent on creating the Oppenheimer Blu-ray, so that each bomb test sounds as authentic as possible.
“Obviously Oppenheimer has been quite a ride for us and now it is time for me to release a home version of the film. I’ve been working very hard on it for months,” Nolan said [via Variety]. “I’m known for my love of theatrical and put my whole life into that, but, the truth is,...

Full Moon Features hasn’t yet gone into production on their “crazy, candy-colored” comedy Barbenheimer, but the film’s title is already famous, since that was the portmanteau was all saw a thousand times this past summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Back in August, the mad geniuses at Full Moon Features announced that they will be taking the portmanteau Barbenheimer – which we all saw a thousand times this summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer – and turning it into a movie of its own. Now producer and Full Moon founder Charles Band has taken a moment to talk to both The Hollywood Reporter and People about Barbenheimer, describing it as a “crazy, candy-colored romp”.

Believe it or not, Barbenheimer is happening.
What started as a lighthearted promotional nickname for Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie and Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer, which released on the same day in July, will soon become a movie combining the stories of the two popular flicks.
Keep reading to find out more…
Characterized by its official tagline, “D-Cup, A-Bomb,” Barbenheimer will be made by producer Charles Band via Full Moon Features, People reported on Monday (November 6).
“With the world so divided and with so many genre films focusing on things that depress, with Barbenheimer, I just want to make a fun, cool, witty little weird movie that unites people with laughter and fun — that reminds us movies can simply be escapism,” Charles told the outlet.
“We’re making a crazy, candy-colored romp that riffs on two movies that literally have nothing in common and yet when placed together, make perfect — and perfectly strange — harmonious bedfellows,...

Back in July, we heard that Full Moon was moving ahead with a horror comedy called Bad CGI Gator, which was scheduled to start filming in Georgia in August. It’s B-Movie Barbie! Survivors of this summer’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon will get the chance to catch a feature-length film nominally inspired by the dual July premiere weekend of Greta Gerwig’s Mattel toy reimagining Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s explosive biopic Oppenheimer.
Barbenheimer, from prolific low-budget filmmaker and Puppet Master series creator Charles Band, will focus on Dr. Bambi J. Barbenheimer, a scientist doll living in Dolltopia with her boyfriend Twink Dollman, who becomes disillusioned with humans’ treatment of dolls and decides to build a giant nuclear bomb to destroy the real world. Fittingly, the synopsis reads: “They got great looks and a super attitude! Oh, and now they’ve got the bomb.”
Despite the apocalyptic stakes, Barbenheimer will actually try to add some levity to a box office that’s taken itself too seriously lately, according to Band. “It’s so silly,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter.

You knew it had to happen at some point. After a summer of costumes, crossover posters, memes and more, someone has decided to make an actual "Barbenheimer" movie. In this case, that someone is B-movie mogul Charles Band, who has figured out a mash-up film that will essentially blend the stories of Greta Gerwig's pop cultural colossus :a[Barbie]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/barbie/' } and Christopher Nolan's carefully crafted biodrama :a[Oppenheimer]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/oppenheimer/' } for what could be a fun –and low-budget – mixture.

Film industry cynics may take one look at a newly announced low-budget comedy called Barbenheimer and a poster that uses Barbie’s iconic pink font over a picture of a nuclear explosion and features the tagline “D-Cup, A-Bomb,” and immediately assume it’s simply a shameless attempt to cash in on a very recent cultural phenomenon. And those cynics would be absolutely correct, says Charles Band, the prolific B-movie icon who has been making low-budget horror comedies since the early 1970s.
“It’s 100 percent true,” he says. “But it’s also an opportunity to have fun with the bizarre coupling of these two movies and the combination of Barbie’s vibe and the darkness of Oppenheimer. You mix that together and you have such an opportunity for dark humor.”

Producer Charles Band, founder of Full Moon, started dreaming of having the Puppet Master characters cross over with the Demonic Toys characters while he was bringing the first Demonic Toys movie into the world back in 1992 – in fact, during the behind-the-scenes Video Zone that was put together for the release of Demonic Toys, Band revealed that Full Moon was considering having the puppets and toys face off in Puppet Master 4. That didn’t happen, Puppet Master 4 ended up being something totally different, but the idea of Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys was kept alive for over a decade. Unfortunately, Band didn’t get the chance to produce the film when it was made. He had to sell off the rights to the Sci-Fi Channel, and they made the Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys movie that was released in 2004. But now the crossover is finally happening under the Full Moon banner…...

Plot: A woman plagued by nightmares of a demon tries to rid herself of these bad dreams with the help of a friend and a dream interpreter.
Review: Back in the early days of his company Full Moon, Charles Band produced and directed a film called Meridian, which was basically an erotic horror take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. Band’s son Alex (you might know him from the hit songs he made with his band The Calling) has said that one of his earliest memories is of being on the set of one of his dad’s movies and seeing “a woman having sex with a giant rat”. That had to be Meridian… and there are more problematic elements to that film than just the idea that little Alex Band was running around on set and seeing things he shouldn’t have seen. I have been a fan of Charles Band‘s company Full Moon since I was a kid, and the Puppet Master franchise ranks as one of my favorites – but I can’t say I have ever looked at the puppet characters in these films and wondered what it would be like if their looks were transformed into a shoe. But that’s exactly what the folks at the shoe company Bull Airs have been thinking. They have announced that a shoe inspired by the look of iconic puppet Blade will be going on sale at noon (Eastern time) on Friday, October 6th!
The Blade shoe will have a limited run of 250 and will sell for the price of $350.
Sizes: Mens US 4-15
Youth Sizes: Youth 1-3
Comes in Puppet Master-themed Collector’s Box, hand numbered. A select number will be signed by Charles Band.

Ghoulies is not the Gremlins rip-off its reputation suggests. The two films were in production at the same time, but budgetary issues delayed the release of Ghoulies. Although it likely benefited from Gremlins‘ success, the similarities begin and end with diminutive monsters. Ghoulies II actually shares more in common with Gremlins, as the first Ghoulies leans more — arguably too much — into the fantasy realm.
From producer Charles Band’s Empire Pictures, the 1985 horror-comedy is directed by Luca Bercovici (Rockula) from a script he co-wrote with producer Jefery Levy. At just over 80 minutes, the film doesn’t waste time trying to make sense of its messy plot.

Aimee: The Visitor opens with a title card telling us that Aimee was not portrayed by an actor or created with digital effects. She is, they claim, the first femme fatale created using AI. The timing is ironic considering the current strikes in Hollywood were, in part, the result of studios wanting to replace writers and performers with AI. However, if this is state of the art, they don’t need to worry just yet.
Scott Keyes is a hacker. You can tell because he has his computer set up in an abandoned loft and sits shirtless in front of his monitor so engrossed in the porn he’s watching he doesn’t notice he’s not alone.
Hunter and his sister Gazelle (Faith West; Maid Droid) have stopped by with some software for him.

The Cult Movie Museum is back with an overlooked science fiction gem: 1989’s Robot Jox. Robot Jox was produced decades before the Pacific Rim and Transformers franchises.
In a post nuclear holocaust world war is outlawed. Conflicts between governments are settled by giant fighting robots piloted by heroic Robot Jox.
Reanimator director Stuart Gordon and producer Charles Band create a fun, believable future society on a lean budget.
If you like pre-cgi practical effects you’re going to love this movie. It’s packed with stop motion, puppetry and large scale miniatures, all shot under the blazing hot desert sun.
Stars Gary Graham of Alien Nation and Anne-marie Johnson of In The Heat Of The Night are terrific, though it’s hard not to be upstaged by giant flame throwing robots!

Plot: When a computer hacker unlocks an advanced Artificial Intelligence program called AImee, this artificial femme fatale gradually takes over his life and sets out to destroy anyone who opposes her.
Review: Full Moon founder Charles Band has always had his eye out for the “next big thing” in entertainment and technology. He was one of the pioneers of the home video age, having started his own video distribution company in 1978. He cashed in on the brief 3-D resurgence in the early ‘80s. Full Moon’s 1993 film Arcade drew attention for the amount of CGI it featured. He started his own streaming service (FullMoonFeatures.com). So it’s no surprise that he happens to be the director of the movie that stars “the very first AI-created femme fatale in film history”. That would be AImee, the title character in the new Full Moon project AImee: The Visitor.

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" were meant to be counter-programming for each other. They both opened in theaters on July 21, 2023, and one can practically hear the studio executives at both Universal and Warner Bros. positing that a younger audience would be dropped off to see the PG-13-rated "Barbie" while adults would sidle into the theater next door to watch "Oppenheimer." What no one seemed to predict was that there was a great deal of overlap between the two films' intended audiences, and a grassroots campaign began to see the two pictures as the ultimate double feature. The phenomenon nicknamed Barbenheimer began. Any number of unauthorized Barbenheimer T-shirts can be purchased online, and many managed to see both films on the same weekend. Rather than siphoning money from one another, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" buoyed each other, each one adding to the other's success. Both films are...
